Chapter Three:

I woke up to a horrible throb in the back of my head. I sighed and sat up, clenching my jaw shut to keep from crying out as I searched for my backpack. Kagome and Shippo were still fast asleep and Inuyasha was no where to be found.

Something landed in my lap with a thud.

I looked down and saw my backpack.

“What’s these?” Inuyasha held up a small yellow container. My prescription bottle. I held out and open palm, which he set the medicine into, and pulled out a small container of water. I popped the cap and downed two pills. Inuyasha watched me patiently as I waited for the pain to recede.

“They’re pain medicine.”

“They’re not like Kagome’s pain medicine.”

I started to chew on my bottom lip, thinking of any excuses that would satisfy him. He shook his head. “Kimi, why do you take these?”

I sighed. “A couple months ago…I got into a really bad car crash. And, well, my head got busted up. I have to take those for the pain.” I hugged my knees to my chest.

“Does Kagome know about this?”

“She knows I was in the crash but she doesn’t know how bad…”

“Why not?”

“She was here…when I came back to Japan. I didn’t tell my grandpa or aunt about the headaches until I got here and we had to fill the prescriptions.”

Inuyasha watched me silently as I put everything away. “Do you plan to tell her?”

I looked up at him. “I don’t know.” I whispered.

“Why did you come back to Japan?”

I bit my lip and looked away, blinking tears back. “My parents…they were the only family I had in America. And well…the officers never found their bodies.”

“You mean…”

“They died in the crash.” I took a deep breath and laid back down, watching Inuyasha as he shifted uncomfortably.

“I’m sorry, Kimi. I know what it’s like to loose your parents…” I looked to Inuyasha. He sighed and stood up, holding out a hand to help me up. I heard Kagome yawn and knew she was waking up. I stood, with the aid of Inuyasha, and gathered my things. Kagome was up within seconds.

“Wow, you’re up early!” She smiled to me as she sat up. She always had been the cheery morning person. I smiled back, shouldering my backpack as I waited for her to get ready so we could leave.

We started our walk. I hung to the back, not necessarily in the mood to talk, while Kagome and Shippo continued to talk. Inuyasha led the group.

Something flew over head. Inuyasha growled, unsheathing the Tetsusagia.

“Move wench! I must help my lord.”

“OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING!?!?!” I screamed, taking the staff the little demented toad carried and pounding it into the dirt.

“My lord! Help me!” A shadow moved over me. I turned around. A man with yellow eyes and long silver hair towered over me, glaring down at me. He had a indigo crescent centered on his forehead and two purple-red stripes on the sides of his face.

I folded my arms across my chest and stared at him. “What do you want?”

“Sesshomaru! Leave Kimi alone!” Inuyasha growled, barring his teeth at the man’s back.

“Sesshomaru? What kind of name is Sesshomaru?” The man’s eyes narrowed.

“Hmmm, Sesshomaru’s a mouthful. I shall call you Sesshy!” I grinned, patting the man on his head before walking around him and towards Inuyasha. Sesshomaru growled at me.

I rolled my eyes and scurried behind Inuyasha.

“So, brother, hanging out with more pitiful humans?”

“I’m going to choose not to take offense to that.” I glared at him.

“Not so brave now that my lord has arrived are you, stupid wench.”

“Are you still alive?” I snarled, making the demented toad hide behind Sesshomaru’s robes.

“Down Kimi.” Inuyasha muttered, moving in front of me so I can’t destroy the little toad.

“A nature demon.”

I glanced at Sesshomaru. “What’s it to you?” I snapped.

“I thought they went extinct.”

“Well I’m still standing right here.”

Sesshomaru fell silent, watching me. I shifted till I was mostly hidden behind Inuyasha, feeling uncomfortable.

“I will leave now.” Sesshomaru walked off, Jaken scampering behind uncertainly looking back at me. I peeked over Inuyasha’s shoulder and watched them leave.

“I didn’t know you had a brother.” I whispered.

“I didn’t know you had horrible headaches.”

“Touché.”

We continued on, only this time Inuyasha hung back with me and we played twenty questions. Kagome would pop in every know and again and join our conversation but then she’d go back to talking to Shippo.

“Hey, let’s stop here! Shippo says there’s a spring nearby.” Kagome grinned.

“Ooo! Let’s go find it!”

Inuyasha rolled his eyes but made no protests against the springs. Shippo seemed to follow his nose to find the hot spring and soon Kagome and I were relaxing in the hot water as Shippo swam around us.

Inuyasha refused to get in the water, mainly because Kagome didn’t want him too and he was too shy to come in the water.

“Come on Inuyasha! We’ll look away!” I called, knowing he’d hear it from the branch he had claimed as his for the night.

“Kimi!”

“What? Sooner or later you’ll bathe with a man Kagome. I don’t see why you’re so shy about it now.” I rolled my eyes. Kagome sighed.

“Inuyasha! You deserve to unwind too.” I sighed when I didn’t see the tree move and turned away, sinking into the water. “Fine, suit yourself.”

I almost fell asleep. But I heard splashing and I opened my eyes.

Inuyasha sat across from me, his cheeks bright red. I almost stood up. “Whoa I fell asleep?”

He laughed a little and nodded.

“Wow, lookie who decided to join us…me…” I looked around and noticed Kagome and Shippo’s missing bodies. I sent Inuyasha a questioning look. “They already went to sleep.”

“Oh…why didn’t you guys wake me up?”

He shrugged, turning bright pink again. “No reason. I just figured you needed the sleep.”

I smirked. “Sure.”

He rolled his eyes. “Whatever.”

“Ne, Inuyasha?”

He looked at me, eye brow raised as he waited for me to ask my question. I started to chew on my lip.

“What…happened to your parents?” I hugged my knees to my chest as I watched for his reaction, anxious.

Inuyasha sighed.

“My dad died protecting my mother and me and my mother died a couple years later.”

“What about Sesshomaru? Where was he when your father saved you guys?”

“Probably with his mother.”

I stared at him for a few moments until I finally got it. “Oh you’re half brothers?”

Inuyasha nodded. “Do you have any siblings?”

I laughed and shook my head. “Naw, my mom had me and then she couldn’t have anymore. I considered Kagome as my sister growing up. Still do.”

He nodded, smiling.

“So Inuyasha, what are you going to do when you get finished here?”

“What do you mean?”

“What do you plan on doing when we defeat Naraku?”

He looked at me, thinking. “I’m going to use the Shikon No Tama to become a full fledged demon.”

“Hmm why do you wanna be a full fledged demon?”

“So I’ll be invincible.”

I laughed. “You wanna be Superman?”

He gave me a weird look. “Superman?”

I grin. “One of these days, I’m going to force you to watch all the Marvel movies with me. They’ve got Superman, Spiderman, The Hulk! I think you’ll like them.” I started to get out, pulling my oversized hoodie before doing anything else.

“Going to bed?” Inuyasha already had his pants on and was currently tugging his top on. I nodded, pulling on my own clothes.

He smiled. “Your head feel any better?”

I grinned. “I wouldn’t be smiling if it didn’t.”

“Good. Night Kimi.”

“Sweet dreams, Inuyasha.” I walked to my sleeping bag, crawling in and falling asleep on spot.

Inuyasha smiled as he jumped back to his branch. Kimi was so different from Kagome and Kikyou. She didn’t mind him in the springs with her. Plus she was an interesting person to talk to.

He leaned back against the tree’s trunk, watching Kimi as she slept.

“A car accident, eh?” He muttered. He planned to go with Kagome next time she went back to the future. He wanted to know more about Kimi’s accident.
