THIRTY

06:19, 10 December 2023

Even if Olivia had pretty terrible morning sickness at the start of her pregnancy, it faded away during her second trimester. She enjoyed being pregnant, even if it meant she had to give up some of her favorite things. In the end, she didn't care if she had to stop drinking as much coffee and give up wine. Not too long after Olivia disclosed her pregnancy, Amanda went back to work, and they could afford to rent a house in Queens. It wasn't anything fancy, but it would work for the five people that were going to live there.

"Last box," Olivia smiled, as she carried the lightest of all their boxes to the moving truck. Fin and Nick did all the heavy lifting since Rafael didn't want to hurt himself.

"Are you sure? We won't get to the house and realize we are missing all our pots and pans? Maybe all your maternity pants?" Amanda asked, as Olivia sat the box down and Nick closed the back of the moving truck.

"I did a walk-through, Rollins. This was my home for so many years, so I checked every spot where I could have possibly hidden junk. We are good," Olivia replied. She walked to where Amanda stood with Charlotte before leaning close and kissing her lips.

"Can we head out now? We have a ton of shit to unload," Fin sighed, as he leaned against the side of the moving truck.

"You don't have to help-" Olivia started, but Fin shook his head.

"Nah, I'm helping. I gave you my word, and Nick can't unload all the heavy shit by himself. But seriously, let's go."

The truck was unpacked, and they tossed boxes into their designated rooms. After all the big items were in their spots, Olivia and Amanda treated Nick and Fin to pizza and beer before Olivia drove them home. Before she went back to the house, she went back to the apartment building and stood outside of it as tears slipped down her cheeks.

Most of her adult life was spent in this apartment. It was her first big adult move when she was promoted to detective, and this was the home she created her family in. Now she was going to spend her days in a house in Queens with Amanda, Charlotte, and the twins.

Olivia watched as someone ran up the front stairs and quickly looked over the call box. Her finger dragged along all the names before it landed on the spot that once held Olivia's name.

"No!" the woman cried. Olivia watched her for a long moment before frowning when she turned around and walked down the stairs. The woman froze when she spotted Olivia, before taking a shaky breath and stepping towards her.

"Hey, Serena," Olivia breathed as she crossed her arms over her chest.

"Liv..." Serena trailed off slowly.

"What are you doing here?"

"Um..."

"Please don't lie to me. Tell me why you are here after I told you I wanted nothing to do with you," Olivia spoke, as she leaned back against her vehicle.

"I had a therapy session today, and my therapist encouraged me to come and see you... So here I am," Serena replied softly.

"Well, you see me. I'm gonna go home now," Olivia replied, before turning to open the driver-side door.

"Are you pregnant?" Serena asked since she hadn't seen her daughter from the side yet. Olivia paused for a moment before nodding. She ran a hand over her bump as she turned to look at her mother.

"Yes, I am."

"Oh, Olivia," Serena whispered.

"It's not a bad thing, Serena. My fiancee and I tried twice to get pregnant, and the second time took. It's twins, by the way," Olivia replied.

"I'm happy for you but sad for myself..." Serena trailed off, as she brushed a shaky hand under her eyes.

"Because?" Olivia questioned.

"I don't get to be involved in the lives of all three of my grandbabies. I fucked up to the point where there is no coming back. I'm so sorry for everything I've done, and I wish you a safe and happy pregnancy," Serena spoke before walking back down the sidewalk.

Olivia watched her mother for a long moment before sighing deeply.

"Mom!" Olivia called. Serena froze at the street corner and turned to look at her daughter.

"Yeah?"

"I'm hungry. Would you want to join me for something to eat? Maybe fries and a milkshake?" Olivia asked. Serena looked at her daughter in shock before nodding slowly.

"I'd like that."

Olivia called Amanda and informed her of what was happening. Amanda was shocked, but only told Olivia to tell her if she needed anything. Serena and Olivia sat down in a booth at a nearby diner that had the only fries that would help with Olivia's craving.

"How far along are you?" Serena asked when she saw her daughter struggle to sit in the booth. Olivia let out a sigh as she shifted a bit until she was comfortable.

"Eighteen weeks."

"Are they moving a lot?" Serena questioned.

"Yes, they are. I can't feel full-on kicks yet, but lots of squirming," Olivia replied as she grabbed the menu and looked over it, even if she knew exactly what she wanted.

"Are you going to find out what they are?"

Olivia looked up from the menu and looked over her mother's face. She had aged so much over the years, and even more since Charlotte was born. When Olivia kicked Serena from her life for what she thought was for good, Serena aged at least ten years.

"I think we are going to wait. The babies are in different sacs, so we could be getting one of each," Olivia replied. Serena smiled weakly as the server came over.

They placed their order of fries and two strawberry milkshakes before sitting in awkward silence. Serena played with one of her many rings while Olivia smoothed the wrinkles in her shirt.

"Why did you ask me here?" Serena questioned.

"I felt bad for you, Mom. I doubt we will have a good mother-daughter relationship, but at least I could be kind to you," Olivia replied.

"I appreciate it, Liv. I know I did nothing to deserve your kind-" Serena started, but Olivia interrupted her.

"You were abusive, Mom. Things would have to change drastically for us to be more than what we already are."
