Part 122
19:00, 31 May 2026Noel didn't waste another second. That low laugh died on his lips, replaced by a sudden, intense focus that made Caro's breath catch in her throat. His hand, which had been resting warm and heavy against her lower abdomen, slid up her side with an authoritative tug, rolling her effortlessly beneath him.
The mattress shifted under his weight as he pinned her down, his body hovering over hers like a shield. The dim evening shadows seemed to close in around them, shrinking their entire world down to the heat of the bed and the frantic, rhythmic pounding of their hearts once again.
'Forget?' Noel murmured against her mouth, his voice a gravelly, dangerous whisper that sent a thrill straight to her core. 'Babe, I'm about to make sure it's the only thing you can think about.'
He came down on her lips then, not with the quiet tenderness of a vow, but with a fierce, possessive hunger that demanded everything she had to give. His tongue tangled with hers, deep and intoxicating, claiming her mouth just as he had claimed her heart. Caro let out a soft, helpless whimper, her hands flying up to grip the hard muscles of his shoulders, her fingers digging in as if he were the only solid thing in a spinning universe.
The slow, lazy rhythm from moments before vanished entirely. Noel's touch was heavy, urgent, and deliberate. His rough palms slid down her hips, lifting her just enough to anchor her securely against his groin. Every press of his skin against hers felt like a silent reassurance, a physical manifestation of the family she had saved and the future he was now offering to build with her.
As his lips left hers to trail a path of burning kisses down the sensitive column of her neck, Caro arched into his touch, her dark eyes closing as a delicious, consuming heat spread from her chest all the way down to her toes. The past trauma, the fears of motherhood, and the chaotic storm of the last month and the one of tomorrow awaiting them at dawn all faded into the background. In this room, stripped of all defenses, there was only Noel, the promise in his touch, and the fierce, undeniable love that bound them together.
The morning light was fully breaking through the curtains now, exposing the absolute chaos of the sheets around them. Caro shifted, her body aching in places that made her face flush with the memory of Noel's heavy, relentless touch. They had pushed each other to the absolute limit, using the dark hours to burn off every ounce of terror and gratitude until they were completely hollowed out.
Noel shifted his weight, instead of pulling away, he crawled up against her back. The sudden, solid heat of his chest pressing firmly against her spine made Caro let out a soft, involuntary sigh.
He didn't give her a chance to settle. He buried his face in the crook of her neck, his lips pressing a warm, lingering kiss right into the sensitive dip where her neck met her shoulder. The rough scrape of his morning stubble sent an immediate, sharp shiver straight down her spine. His hand came around her waist, warm and possessive, pulling her hips back just a fraction closer against him. He let out a low, gravelly breath that fanned hot across her bare skin before his lips traveled up to the curve of her jaw, nipping lightly at the soft skin there.
Even with the dark circles of exhaustion bruising the skin under his eyes, his touch held that same fierce, relentless intensity that had anchored her to the bed all night. He was absolutely knackered, but the wired energy running through him was undeniable.
Caro swallowed hard against the dryness in her throat, her head tilting back slightly against his shoulder as his lips found the sensitive spot beneath her ear again. She needed to wave a white flag immediately.
'Oh, tempting...' she whispered, her voice dropping into a breathless, thoroughly defeated chuckle. She reached back, her fingers tangling weakly in the short hair at the nape of his neck to gently halt his rhythm. 'But my body hurts in places I never knew existed, Noel. I am officially admitting defeat.'
She let out a faint, pathetic little groan, burying her face deeper into the pillow. 'What the hell are you even made of, Gallagher? Your stamina is actually terrifying, and I am begging for mercy. You've completely ruined me. But maybe you can make it up to me by making me coffee..'
A low, deep rumble of a laugh vibrated right through his chest and against her back, the proud, rugged smirk on his face practically audible in the quiet room. He didn't pull away. Instead, his hand slid down from her waist, his palm flattening over her lower stomach and pressing her firmly back against the hard, unmistakable heat of his groin. He nipped at her earlobe, his breath hot and heavy against her skin.
'It is hard to stop,' Noel murmured, his voice thick with a rugged satisfaction that made her heart race. He shifted closer, the movement a slow tease that let her feel him in all his glory. 'You were incredible last night, Caro. Don't go giving me all the credit when you were right there with me every step of the way.'
The playful banter slowed, and the thick, driving tension in the room finally began to dissipate, melting into the cool morning air. Noel didn't get up to make the coffee. Instead, the heavy, demanding pressure of his body softened entirely. He shifted his weight with a slow, deliberate grace, rolling onto his side and pulling her around until she was tucked securely against his chest.
Caro let out a long, ragged breath, all the playfulness draining out of her as she snuggled into his warmth, her head resting on his arm.
Since it was still so early and the house was completely dead, they both shut their eyes, consciously trying to steal another hour or two of much-needed sleep. But the quiet exhaustion of their bodies couldn't quiet their minds. The heavy weight of the night, and the massive reality of the day ahead, hung too thick in the room.
Every time Caro began to drift, the memory of Noel's intense gaze or the phantom feeling of his hand on her stomach pulled her right back to the surface.
Noel wasn't sleeping either. His breathing remained shallow, and his large thumb began to trace a slow, absentminded circle against the bare skin of her shoulder.
'You're awake,' he murmured into the quiet room, his gravelly voice dropping into a low, intimate register.
'Yeah,' Caro whispered, turning her head slightly to look at him in the dim shadows.
Noel let out a low sigh. 'What you said last night...about never having a mother figure. About not knowing if you're destined for it.' He paused. 'I don't want you ever thinking your past dictates what you're allowed to want with me.'
Caro swallowed hard against the sudden lump in her throat, shifting around so she could look directly into his blue eyes. The exhaustion on his face was clear, but the raw honesty there was completely unfiltered.
'It's just scary, Noel,' she admitted softly, her fingers coming up to rest against his chest. 'Seeing how fiercely you love your kids, how much you went through with Sara and Mel..and then thinking about adding to that chaos. I've spent so long protecting my own boundaries, and last night you just tore them all down.'
A beautiful, incredibly tender smile touched the corner of Noel's lips. He leaned down, pressing his forehead against hers, their breaths mingling in the quiet room as his hand gently slid down to cover hers over his heart.
'Hey, look at me,' he whispered softly, his voice thick with an undeniable warmth. 'There is absolutely no pressure, Caro. That decision is completely down to you, babe. It is entirely your choice to make, whenever or if ever you're ready. I just want you to know that whatever you decide down the road, I am right here with you.'
Caro tilted her head up, her dark eyes locking onto his. The profound relief of his words washed over her, completely silencing her doubts. He wasn't pressuring her; he was letting her choose. The sheer warmth and love in his gaze made something inside her chest snap, shifting the quiet vulnerability into a sudden, fierce hunger.
Without a word, Caro shifted her weight. Despite the dull ache in her muscles, she crawled right up his chest, pinning him down and straddling his hips.
Noel let out a low, surprised growl, his hands immediately coming up to grip her waist as she looked down at him in the dim morning light. She didn't give him a chance to speak. She leaned down and captured his lips in a deep, bruising kiss, her fingers tangling fiercely in his hair.
The hard, unmistakable heat of him erased any thought of exhaustion. Caro arched her back and began to ride him, setting a fast, demanding rhythm that left them both breathless. It was fast, raw, and desperate, a quick fuck, fueled by pure adrenaline and the looming threat of the morning. For a few intense minutes, she took complete control, driving them both past the ache in their bodies until yet another climax rolled over them.
Caro didn't move, staying right where she was. She remained completely impaled on him, straddling his hips and keeping him buried deep inside her, gasping for air. Noel let out a low, gravelly laugh, his hands resting heavy on her thighs as his chest heaved beneath her.
'I thought you said I ruined you, babe,' he murmured, his voice thick with a rugged, thoroughly smug satisfaction.
Caro rolled her eyes playfully, a breathless, exhausted smirk tugging at the corner of her lips. 'You did,' she gasped. 'But clearly, I'm a glutton for punishment. Don't go getting a big head, Gallagher.'
Just as Noel's chest rumbled with an amused chuckle, a sharp, piercing ringtone brutally cut through the heavy afterglow.
It was her phone, vibrating violently against the wooden nightstand right next to them. Noel let out a loud, thoroughly frustrated curse as the aggressive sound pulled them both right back to reality.
With a reluctant, heavy sigh, Caro finally had to dismount him, her sore muscles protesting as she slid off him and reached across the messy mattress to grab the phone. Noel stayed flat on his back, one arm thrown over his eyes, frustrated again with their bodies having to disconnect.
She swiped the screen and pressed the phone to her ear, her voice still slightly raspy. 'Caroline speaking.'
'Good morning, Caroline. It's David Pemberton,' the sharp, elite tone of the senior associate cut through the quiet bedroom. 'Julian asked me to brief you immediately. The logistics for Bowie's return are locked in for nine o'clock at the designated office near the old docks. The transport team is on schedule. However...there are a couple of specific conditions we need to prepare for.'
Caro sat up straight, the duvet pooling around her waist as her eyes locked onto Noel. Seeing the shift in her posture, he immediately bolted into a sitting position beside her, his blue eyes turning sharp and guarded.
'What kind of conditions, David? I'll put you on speaker, Noel is here as well..' Caro asked, her voice dropping into a firm, cool tone as she pushed the button.
'Mel's legal team just relayed a direct message to us,' David explained, sighing slightly over the line. 'She is absolutely furious about how you handled the situation, Caroline. She knows exactly how you orchestrated this rescue and she feels like you bypassed her entirely. She is refusing to hand Bowie over, unless Noel is the only one who walks into the room. She wants to talk to him alone at the exchange.'
Noel's jaw clenched so tight the muscles in his cheek began to tick. He leaned closer to the phone, his gravelly voice dropping into a dangerous, protective rumble. 'David, She doesn't get to dictate a fucking thing anymore. Caro comes with me.'
'I understand Mr. Gallagher, and legally, she can't stop the handover,' David countered gently, his professional poise unwavering. 'But she is bitter, and she wants to look you in the eyes without your new partner present. And there's something else Julian wanted me to emphasize. One of our sources says Mel has spent quite some time heavily indoctrinating Bowie. She's been feeding the girl nothing but toxic, terrible lies specifically about you, Caroline.'
David paused, letting the heavy words sink in before continuing. 'Mel seems to have painted Caroline as a very dangerous woman who is keeping her away from her mother. You need to take into account that the little girl walking out of that car might be terrified of you in the meantime, Caroline, or maybe even outright hostile. Mel has completely poisoned Bowie's mind against you to get one last, painful dig in before she gives her back.'
A cold, heavy silence crashed into the bedroom, instantly swallowing the last remnants of the morning's warmth.
Noel's face darkened, a violent wave of raw, protective fury flashing in his blue eyes. His jaw clenched so tight the muscles in his cheek violently ticked. But as he turned his head to look at Caro, the anger in his chest completely fractured. A sharp, physical ache pierced his heart at what he saw.
She had gone completely rigid. For a split second, the colour drained from her face and her dark eyes widened with a profound, devastating shock. It was a rare, heartbreaking glimpse behind her armor, the sudden, agonizing realization that the little girl she had just spent risking everything to rescue, had been taught to look at her as a dangerous monster.
Noel felt his chest tighten, his hand instinctively reaching out, wanting nothing more than to pull her into his body and shield her from Mel's toxic parting shot.
But before his fingers could even brush her skin, Caro's survival instincts kicked in. He watched her walls snap back into place with terrifying, military precision.
She swallowed the shock down hard, forcing her expression into a completely blank, unreadable mask. She deliberately averted her gaze from his worried eyes, refusing to let the emotion break her focus. Her knuckles turned white around the phone, her posture straightening as she forced her voice to remain entirely steady, cool, and practical.
'Fine. If that's what it takes to get her in that car, then that's what we do,' Caro said, her voice clipping the words with sharp efficiency, utterly ignoring the emotional bomb that had just detonated in the room. 'Tell Mel I won't ruin this for Bowie. I'll take a step back. I'll wait outside or stay in the car. Noel will walk into that room alone.'
She paused for a brief second, clearing her throat to keep her voice from cracking. 'Just make sure the paperwork is there and everything is ready for nine o'clock. We'll be leaving shortly.'
Noel's hand hovered in the empty air for a second before dropping heavily back onto the mattress. His chest heaved as he stared at her profile, filled with a mixture of intense pride and deep, agonizing sorrow. He could see the frantic, rapid pulse beating against the skin of her throat, the tiny tremor she was fighting so hard to suppress. She was bleeding inside, but she was putting her own heartbreak entirely on the backburner, ruthlessly focused on one thing only: getting his daughter back safely.
