Part 107
19:00, 15 May 2026The word together seemed to echo in the sterile space, but instead of bringing comfort, it sparked a deeper, darker distress in her eyes. Her expression shifted to a profound, hollow despair. She avoided his gaze, looking down at where their hands met, her shoulders trembling.
'I don't know...' she whispered, the words ragged and soaked in humiliation. 'I don't know what to do anymore. I can't..I don't want to live like this.'
'Hey, look at me..' Noel urged, shifting closer until his shadow completely covered her. He reached across with his free hand, wanting to shield her from whatever dark loop was playing in her mind.
But Caro twisted her head away, burying her face into the side of the stiff hospital pillow. She shrank back into the sterile white sheets, her spine curving inward as if she were trying to physically disappear from him.
'I'm so ashamed,' she choked out. The words came out in a broken, breathless sob she couldn't catch. The sheer, raw mortification in her voice hit Noel with the force of a physical blow, fracturing the last bit of restraint he had left. 'I..Rob..he..if I didn't do..what he wanted..you lose..everything. he'd hurt the..kids..I was so..scared I couldn't..move. I let him do it..had to..Sara..she..'
Before he could offer a single word to fight the lie Rob had forced into her head, the heavy dose of sedation finally won. The monumental effort of speaking pulled her under. Her eyelids fluttered once, twice, and then closed completely. Her fingers went entirely slack, slipping out of his palm like water and dropping limply onto the mattress. The frantic tension in her chest dissipated, leveling out into the slow, mechanical rhythm of a drug-induced sleep.
Noel leaned down, pressing his lips firmly against her temple, breathing in the scent of sterile hospital soap and her familiar perfume.
'I love you so much,' he whispered against her skin, the words no longer a comfort, but a vow. 'He and Sara will burn for this, Caro. I promise you..'
Behind him the door opened with a soft, cautious creak. A nurse stepped into the dim room and checked the vitals monitor, then gave him a sympathetic but firm look.
'Mr. Gallagher, the sedation is fully taking over now,' she said in a quiet whisper. 'She needs to sleep undisturbed so her nervous system can reset. It's best if you leave her to rest now.'
Noel remained frozen for a second, his fingers lingering near Caro's pale skin, before he slowly nodded. He stood up and pushed another kiss on her forehead before he stepped away from the bed and out of the room.
The corridor was completely empty. Liam had already gone back to the stadium. Noel walked through the sterile foyer alone, his boots echoing sharply against the floor. The automatic doors hissed open into the warm night air, and he climbed into the back of the waiting van.
As the vehicle drove through Edinburgh to the glowing monolith of the stadium, Noel pulled out his phone and dialed his lead attorney's direct line. It rang twice before a sharp, professional voice picked up.
'Noel. I heard about what happened to Caroline..,' the lawyer stated.
'Strip the gloves off,' Noel commanded, staring at his cold reflection in the tinted window. 'I don't want a standard civil suit anymore. I want Rob and Sara ruined by midnight. If there is a legal loophole to expose them to criminal extortion charges, find it and exploit it before sunrise. Leave them completely broke and exposed and the story splattered across every tabloid'
There was a brief pause on the line, the gravity of the shift settling in. 'If we go that aggressive right now, it becomes a public war, do you want the kids exposed to all that?'
'Burn it all down,' Noel said, his voice dead and unyielding. 'I'll deal with the kids!'
He ended the call without waiting for a reply and slipped the phone into his pocket. He looked down at his hands. They were perfectly still now. The grief had been locked away in a dark, impenetrable box, leaving nothing but an ocean of focused, roaring rage. He had a stadium of eighty thousand people waiting for him, and he was about to give them the most volatile performance of his life.
The heavy scent of stale beer, damp concrete, and ozone hit Noel the moment the van doors slammed shut behind him. The underbelly of the stadium was a frantic labyrinth of security guards, production crew, and tech staff parting like the Red Sea as he strode through. He didn't look at anyone.
Liam was leaning against the door of the dressing room, talking to Bonehead, just outside the tunnel leading to the stage, a tambourine swinging lazily from his fingers.
'Hey' Liam turned towards him, stepping into his path, 'How did it go? Did she say anything to you?'
Noel stopped. He looked at Liam, his expression entirely devoid of the usual pre-show irritation. For a fraction of a second, the iron-clad armor cracked, and a raw, trembling vulnerability slipped through.
'She did, yeah,' Noel said, his voice a low, rough rasp that barely carried over the muffled roar of eighty thousand people chanting their name outside. 'Just hearing her voice again..it felt so good.'
Liam's posture softened, a flash of genuine relief crossing his face. 'Good. That's fucking brilliant, man.'
'I've called the lawyers again,' Noel said, his voice flat, steady, and utterly terrifying. 'The gloves are completely off. I told them to leave no stone unturned. They are going to drag Rob's name through the absolute dirt. Every single disgusting detail of what he did, every threat, every piece of extortion, it's getting smeared across the front page of every tabloid by sunrise. I am going to burn Rob and Sara down to the fucking ground, Liam. By tomorrow morning, they will be completely ruined.'
Liam stared at him, 'Sara too?..you absolutely sure? What about the kids finding out?...'
'You think I haven't thought about that?' He stepped closer to Liam, his jaw twitching. 'But Sara chose his side the minute she helped him spin this web. She stood by and watched Caro drown just to keep her hands in my pockets. She's just as guilty. They pool their venom, they pool the consequences.'
'I will try and shield the kids from the gory details,' Noel continued, his eyes full of fire 'But I am not letting Rob think that he even stands a chance of worming himself out of this,' Noel spat, his fists clenching at his sides. 'He thinks he's clever. He thinks he can talk his way out of this? Well, what he doesn't know yet is that the lawyers are dropping an absolute hammer on his head. By the time they are through with him, every exit door will be welded shut. They want a war? They've got one. I'm burning it all down.'
The stage manager walked up to them, checking his glowing clipboard with a tense expression. 'Two minutes guys, we need you lined up at the bottom of the stairs. The intro tape is about to cue.'
Noel turned and headed for the metal steps. He and the rest of the band started walking up the stairs and into the dark, vibrating mouth of the tunnel. The concrete walls hummed, transmitting the tectonic roar of eighty thousand fans waiting for them.
Just before they reached the blinding white light at the exit, Liam reached out. He grabbed his brother's hand, his grip tight, solid, and fierce. Noel clamped his fingers back in response.
Side by side, together, they walked out of the tunnel and onto the massive stage, greeted by an earth-shattering roar of sound and light.
He turned around and stood before his microphone. Through the haze of the stage lights, the stadium looked like a vast, roaring ocean. But Noel didn't see the fans. Behind his eyes, the dark box where he had locked away his grief was violently vibrating, fueled by the image of Caro shrinking into her hospital bed and the thought of Rob sitting smugly in a police cell.
Liam took his position at the center of the stage, spine arched backward, hands gripping the tambourine. He looked back over his shoulder at Noel, his eyes wide with a feral, manic anticipation. He could feel it too. This wasn't a standard rock show anymore. It was an execution.
Noel stepped up to the pedalboard. Without a word of introduction, he struck the opening chord.
The sound exploded from the stadium speakers with the force of a bomb, raw, overdriven, and dripping with venom. It was louder and heavier than anything they had played on the entire tour. The rest of the band locked into the rhythm instantly, Bonehead's rhythm guitar backing him up like a wall of solid brick.
As Liam leaned into the microphone to unleash his first line, his voice cutting through the night air with an unprecedented, razor-sharp edge, Noel kept his eyes glued to the fretboard. His fingers moved with absolute precision, each stroke of the guitar pick an act of calculated violence. He was playing out his rage, sending a clear, thunderous message across the Edinburgh night: the war had begun, and he wouldn't stop until Rob and Sara were completely destroyed.
The ringing in Noel's ears was still deafening as the van pulled up to the rear entrance of the hospital. It was past midnight on their final night in Edinburgh. The stadium was miles behind him, still emptying out its eighty thousand fans, but Noel had left the stage, dropped his guitar into his tech's hands, and walked straight to the vehicle without saying a word to anyone, not even Liam.
His phone buzzed in his pocket as the van tore through the Edinburgh streets. It was a text from his lead attorney: "Done. The morning editions are locked. Rob's bail is denied. Sara's assets are frozen. Every exit door is welded shut. They are finished."
Noel slipped the phone away, feeling no triumph. Just a hollow, heavy silence.
He arrived at the hospital past midnight. He walked through the sterile, dimly lit corridors of the ward, his boots making no sound this time as he consciously slowed his pace. The manic, volatile energy that had fueled him on stage tonight evaporated with every step he took toward her room. By the time he reached her door, the untouchable rockstar was gone. He was just a man entirely spent, carrying the weight of a war he had violently concluded.
He pushed the door open with a soft click.
The room was bathed in the pale, amber glow of a single bedside lamp. Caro was awake. The heavy, clouding sedation finally seemed to be clearing, leaving her looking fragile, but her eyes were sharp and clear. She was sitting up slightly, staring out the dark window at the Edinburgh skyline.
When she heard the door, she turned her head slowly.
Noel stopped at the foot of the bed. His leather jacket was damp from the Scottish mist, his hair slightly wild from the stage, and dark circles shadowed his eyes.
For a long moment, neither of them spoke. The memory of her ragged, humiliated confession from hours before hung in the quiet air between them, alongside the devastating way her hand had slipped limply from his palm before she drifted off.
Carefully, Noel walked around to the side of the bed. He didn't rush her. He sank heavily into the stiff leather chair, his joints aching from the adrenaline crash. He reached out, his hand hovering for a split second, before he gently laid his palm face-up on the white sheets.
An invitation. Not a demand.
Caro looked at his hand, then up at his face, scanning the exhaustion etched into his features. Slowly, her trembling fingers moved across the sterile linen and slid back into his palm. This time, her fingers didn't go slack. She gripped him back, faintly, but it was there.
'I could hear some..of the show,' she whispered, her voice still raspy but steady. 'Even from here. The stadium...I thought it was a...thunderstorm.'
Noel squeezed her hand, his thumb tracing the pale skin of her wrist. 'Yeah. It was loud.'
He leaned forward, resting his forehead against the edge of the mattress for a second, letting out a long, ragged breath he felt like he'd been holding since Tuesday. When he looked back up at her, the fire that had consumed him backstage was entirely gone, replaced by a raw, bleeding honesty.
'It's over, Caro,' Noel said, his voice dropping to a quiet, unbreakable vow. 'I tightened the noose around Rob's neck, I am not letting that monster think that he even stands a chance of worming his way out of this. The police have him locked down tight, and my lawyers have welded the doors shut. Every single disgusting detail of what he did to you, every threat he made against you and the kids, every piece of extortion, it's hitting the front pages of every tabloid in an hour. He is ruined. Sara is ruined. They have absolutely nothing left.'
Caro's breath hitched. She didn't look away this time. She searched his eyes, looking for the catch, looking for the danger. But she found only an absolute, impenetrable safety.
'The kids..are you sure?..what..about..Sara..she's their..mother' she choked out, a familiar panic flickering in her chest.
'They're safe,' Noel interrupted softly, his grip tightening protectively. 'I've already arranged everything. They're isolated, shielded, and surrounded by people who love them. Rob can't touch them. He can't touch you. He is never, ever going to "hold a gun" to your head again.'
A single tear spilled over Caro's eyelashes, tracing a path down her pale cheek. But it wasn't the hollow, suffocating despair from before. The rigid tension in her shoulders finally broke, her spine softening as she sank back into the pillows. The crushing weight of the secret, the shame that had made her want to physically disappear, seemed to be gone.
'I..don't..know..what to say..I was..so..scared..' she whispered, her lip trembling.
'You don't have to say anything,' Noel murmured, his voice cracking completely as the armor he had worn all night finally shattered as he pressed a long, lingering kiss against her knuckles.
'But you have to stay with me, Caro,' he pleaded, his voice dropping to a desperate, broken whisper that vibrated with pure agony.
'What you said before..about not wanting to live anymore..it nearly killed me. Don't you ever say that again. Don't you ever think that you don't belong here anymore. I don't give a fuck about the money, or the band, or any of this noise. None of it means a single thing if I lose you. If you go down, I go down with you.' His own eyes welling up as the dark box in his chest finally opened, letting the grief and the relief wash through him at last. 'I love you so very much. We're going to get you out of here, and we're going to rebuild. Together.'
Caro closed her eyes, letting out a fractured, exhausted sob. The tears came freely now, but the suffocating shame that had paralyzed her hours before was gone, replaced by a quiet, overwhelming relief. She didn't try to pull away. Instead, she turned her hand in his, interlocking their fingers tightly, anchoring herself to him.
Noel didn't even think about leaving. The thought of going back to the empty hotel suite felt entirely impossible. He slipped his arms out of his damp leather jacket and draped it over the back of the heavy chair. With careful, quiet movements, he dragged the leather chair closer to the side of the bed until it was pressed against the frame.
He kept his fingers locked in hers, his thumb continuing its slow, rhythmic stroke against her skin.
'Just sleep, babe,' he whispered into the dim, amber light of the room. 'I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere.'
She let out a long, shuddering breath, her head sinking deeper into the pillow. For the first time in months, the frantic tension in her chest didn't return. Her breathing gradually slowed, leveling out into a deep, natural rhythm as her exhausted mind finally surrendered to peace.
Noel watched her in the dark, listening to the quiet rise and fall of her breath. Outside the window, the first faint light of dawn was beginning to bleed over the Edinburgh skyline, signaling the arrival of the morning papers and the absolute collapse of the world Rob and Sara had built. But inside the room, the storm had finally passed. Noel closed his heavy eyes, leaning his head against the mattress beside her hand, and fell into a deep, dreamless sleep.
