Part 65
00:41, 13 April 2026Noel ended the call with Simon and tossed his phone onto the foot of the bed. The atmosphere in the trailer charged with a cold, calculated fury.
Noel watched her, the silence now heavy with the sound of a zipper sliding back into place. It was a sharp, clinical noise that cut through the lingering scent of their intimacy. Caroline didn't look at him; her movements were efficient, her expression hardening into the professional mask she used to navigate the music industry's sharks. The warmth of the last hour hadn't just cooled, it had frozen over.
'Caro, stop, no..' Noel said, his voice low but commanding. He didn't move from the bed, but his eyes followed every frantic movement of her hands as she straightened her dress.
'I can't 'stop', Noel,' she snapped, finally meeting his gaze. Her eyes were bright with a mixture of fear and adrenaline. 'Your wife's not just coming for your money anymore. She's coming for my throat. If she frames this reunion as a scam I orchestrated by manipulating you and Liam, I'm finished. Not just with you, with everyone. I'll be the woman who broke the Gallaghers to fix her own bank account. She's out to destroy my professional integrity'
She reached for her heels, her fingers trembling despite her best efforts to stay composed. 'I need to get to my laptop. I need to build a defense before the sun comes up, but how? what am I gonna prove against manipulated pictures?
Noel stood up, ignoring the chill of the air conditioning on his bare skin. He stepped into her space, his presence blocking her path to the door. He didn't touch her, he knew she was too "red alert" for a tender gesture, but he stood like a wall between her and the panic.
'You aren't building a defense,' he growled, his Manchester accent thickening with protective rage. 'Defending means we're playing her game. We're on the back foot. That's exactly where she wants you, scrambling for proof while she leaks manipulated photos to the Sun.'
He leaned in closer, his shadow falling over her. 'She thinks she's found a weakness because you met Liam without my knowing. She thinks I was 'hurt' or 'betrayed' by that. She's forgotten that I'm the one who told you I couldn't face him yet. She's forgotten that deep down I knew you were the only bridge left.
Caroline looked up at him, her breathing shallow. 'The world doesn't know that, Noel. They don't even know the real truth and that is that you fired me because I overstepped a boundary and decided to go talk to Liam without your knowing'.
Caroline shook her head, her voice thick. 'But those 2 meetings with Liam...Noel, I only did that because the two of you couldn't communicate without ripping each other's heads off. I wanted to mend the family, not force a "payday." If she leaks those photos of us in those pubs, even if they're manipulated, people will believe her narrative, not mine!'
Noel stepped even closer, so near she could feel the heat of his anger. He clenched his fist, not in aggression toward her, but out of pure frustration with the situation.
'Let them believe whatever the hell they want,' he snapped, his voice dropping to a husky whisper that sounded more dangerous than his earlier roar. 'You think I give a toss what some rag writes about a faked pint in a pub? It's not about the photos, Caroline. It's about who's telling the story.'
He gripped her shoulders, his hold firm and commanding. 'You were the bridge, yeah. And yes, I sacked you because you went behind my back. But that was business. This?' He gestured vaguely at the space between them. 'This is personal. She's trying to drive a wedge between us by making you out to be a traitor, when you were the only one who had the balls to do what I couldn't.'
Noel locked eyes with her, his gaze piercing. 'If she leaks those photos, we leak the truth. Not through a solicitor, not through some dry official statement, but my way. Liam and I, on a stage or in a room together, doesn't matter. We suck the oxygen out of her fire before she gets the chance to burn the house down.'
'She's desperate, Caro,' he said, his voice eerily calm, the quiet before the storm. 'She knows she's going to lose the legal battle over the money, so she's trying to poison the reunion, the tour. She knows Oasis is my entire life. If she can smear that, she thinks she can bring me back to my knees.'
Noel felt the shift before she even spoke. It was in the way her shoulders stayed hunched, the way she didn't lean into his touch, and the sudden, clinical coldness that masked her exhaustion. She wasn't just tired; she was retreating into a shell he didn't know how to crack.
'And bring you back to her..' Caroline sighed, finally pulling her chin from his hand. She didn't look at him. Instead, she stepped around him, putting the physical distance of the room between them as if he were a fire she was afraid of getting too close to.
'She wants her old life back, Noel. Her life with you..And she'll burn me to get it,' she said, her voice hollow and strangely formal. 'I can't be the reason you lose the tour. I can't be the scandal that makes Liam walk away again. I've already done enough damage.'
Noel watched her, his brow furrowed in a mix of confusion and rising alarm. 'Damage? Caro, I just told you..'
'I heard what you said' she interrupted, her eyes finally meeting his, but they were dull, stripped of the spark they usually held. 'But I have a job to do. If I'm still your manager, then I need to get to my laptop. I need to draft a contingency plan for the press and call the legal team in London. There's no time for..this..you fucking me, in a trailer after a show.'
Noel recoiled as if she'd physically struck him. The raw, clinical way she said it, fucking me in a trailer, cut right through the emotional tension he'd been trying to build. It stripped away the intimacy, reducing everything they had shared to something cheap and fleeting that only existed in the shadows of a tour backstage.
'Is that what this is to you?' he asked, his voice dropping to a dangerous, gravelly low. The Manchester rasp was thick with suppressed fury. 'A quick fuck between sets? Is that how you're doing this now? Devaluing it, so it doesn't hurt when it burns?'
Caroline didn't look up. 'It doesn't matter what it is to me, Noel. It matters what the world sees. And the world sees a personal assistant using her position to fuck the star, while she's sneaking around in pubs with his brother behind his back.'
She swallowed hard, her gaze fixed on her hands 'When those photos of me and Liam come out, even if they're manipulated, paired with the narrative she's spun... I'm not the woman who brokered the biggest reunion in British history anymore. I'm just the girl fucking one of the Gallagher brothers for the money'
She finally lifted her head, and the emptiness in her eyes was worse than any tears. 'We're done for, Noel. She knows it, and deep down, you know it too. There isn't a version of "us" that survives this without you looking like a mug. So let me do my job. Let me manage the damage to the Oasis brand, because that's the only thing left I can actually save.'
Caroline didn't flinch. She didn't even look at his hand. She simply stood up, forcing him to step back or be collided with.
'Caro, don't you dare walk out that door,' Noel growled, his Manchester accent thick with a warning. He moved to block her, his bare chest heaving in the chilled air. 'We haven't finished this. You don't get to just decide we're "done for" and run for the hills.'
'Yes I can, and I will' she turned around and walked up to the door.
Noel's patience snapped. As she lunged for the handle, he didn't think; he reacted with the raw, jagged instinct of a man who was losing the only thing that made sense in his chaotic world. He reached out and snagged her arm, his fingers digging deep into the soft flesh of her bicep to jerk her back toward him.
'I said you're not fuckin' leaving!' he roared, his voice bouncing off the thin metal walls.
The force of the pull caught Caroline off guard, her heels skidding on the linoleum. Her shoulder wrenched painfully as she was hauled back into his space. Noel didn't realize the strength he was using, the years of pent-up frustration, the stress of the legal battles, and the fear of losing her had manifested into a grip of iron.
'Noel, stop!' she gasped, her face contorting as a sharp bolt of pain shot up her arm.
He didn't let go. He held her there, pinned between the door and his heaving chest, his hand tightening further as he looked down at her. 'You don't get to walk out on me because you're scared of a few headlines. You don't get to turn what we have into some filthy little secret just to save my "brand."'
'Noel, please,' she whimpered, her voice thin and high, a stark contrast to her earlier coldness. She began to struggle, but it only made his grip feel more like a vice. 'You're hurting me. Let go.'
He was too blinded by his own "protective rage" to see the genuine distress in her eyes. 'I'm trying to save you from yourself, Caro! If you go out there, she wins..'
'Noel! Let go!' she cried out, her breath hitching in a sob of pure physical pain. Her knees buckled slightly, and she reached up with her free hand to claw at his wrist, trying to pry his fingers off. 'Please..you're hurting me!'
The sound of her voice breaking, finally pierced through the red mist. Noel looked down, his gaze landing on his own white-knuckled hand buried in her arm. He saw the red marks already beginning to bloom against her pale skin.
He recoiled as if he'd been burned, his hand flying back as he released her so abruptly she stumbled against the doorframe.
'I..' Noel stammered, the rage vanishing instantly, replaced by a sickening wave of horror. He looked at his hand, then at her, his eyes wide. 'Caro, I didn't mean to..I'm sorry.'
The heavy metal door of the trailer slammed shut, leaving Noel in the suffocating silence of his own guilt. Caroline stumbled through the maze of black flight cases and coiled cables backstage, her breath hitching in the damp night air. She wrapped her arms tightly around herself, her fingers digging into the fabric of her coat to cover the spots where Noel's grip had been.
She just needed to get to the hotel. She needed to be the manager, the professional, the one who didn't feel.
As she rounded the corner of a massive equipment truck, she collided head-first into a solid wall of a parka. 'Whoa, watch it!' a familiar, rasping voice barked.
Liam caught her by the shoulders to steady her. His playful swagger vanished the second he saw her face in the harsh glow of a nearby security light.
'Caro?' Liam's head tilted, his brow furrowing. 'What the fuck are you doin' out here? I thought you'd left already?' he then looked behind her and saw the light in Noel's trailer still 'Ooohh I get it..you two went for a shag or two in there, didn't you?!' he grinned but then saw her trembling 'Is everything ok? You're shakin'..'
Caroline tried to pull away, but the movement made her hiss in pain, her hand flying back to clutch her upper arm. 'Everything's fine, Liam. I'm just tired. It's been a long night.'
Liam's eyes narrowed. He wasn't as oblivious as people thought, especially when it came to the people who kept his world from spinning off its axis. He noticed how she was shielding her left arm, her fingers white from the pressure.
'You look like you two did something more than just shag, man,' he said, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous rumble. He didn't let go of her shoulders. 'And why are you holdin' your arm like it's fallin' off? You trip over a flight case or somethin'?'
'I fell,' she lied quickly, her voice trembling. 'I tripped over a cable near the catering tent. It's nothing, really. I have to go, the press releases for tomorrow..'
'Don't talk shit to me, Caroline,' Liam interrupted brusquely. He stepped into her space, his energy vibrating with a sudden, protective heat. 'You don't fall on your own arm and end up lookin' like you've been through a war zone. Let me see.'
'Liam, please, just let me go,' she pleaded, her eyes filling with the tears she'd been fighting since she left the trailer.
Liam ignored her protest, gently but firmly reaching down to pull her hand away from her arm. Even in the dim light, the dark, finger-shaped bruises were unmistakable against her pale skin. He stared at the marks, then slowly looked back toward the direction she'd come from, Noel's trailer, still glowing with light a few yards away.
A deadly stillness settled over him. 'Did he do that?' Liam asked. It wasn't a question; it was a low, vibrating growl of fury. 'Did our kid put his hands on you?'
'No, no, nothing like that, it was an accident, Liam! We were just arguing about something, he didn't mean to..'
'and yet he did..fookin' hell Caro..I'll go sort him out' Liam tried to step past her but she gripped the lapels of his parka, pulling him toward her until he was forced to look down at her. 'Liam, stop! Look at the fences. Those vans? Those are paps. They're vultures, Liam, so leave your brother be, and just turn around and we'll walk out of here nice and calm, like nothing happened, ok?'
Just then, the sharp metallic scrape of the trailer latch cut through the air. The door swung open and Noel stepped out, now fully dressed in his dark jacket, his face pale and drawn from the fallout of their row. He caught sight of Caroline, but his expression froze when he saw Liam's silhouette standing right in front of her.
'What the fuck are you doin' here?' Noel snapped, his defensive wall slamming back up instantly.
Liam stepped up to his brother, his chin up in that predatory Gallagher swagger. 'I'll tell you what I'm doin' here, you arrogant little prick, what the hell were you thinkin'..have you seen her arm?'
'Liam, no!' Caroline shoved herself between them, her back against Liam's chest as she slammed her palms flat against Noel's jacket to keep him back. She was once again the human barrier between two ticking time bombs. 'Shut your mouths! Both of you!'
She glanced over her shoulder toward the distant perimeter fence, where a faint lens flare glinted in the grey mist. 'They're watching! The paps are in the bushes by the exit. If you two don't stop this alpha-male shite right now, tomorrow's front page won't be about the tour, it'll be about the police coming to drag you lot apart.'
Noel's gaze flickered down to the bruises on her arm, the ones he'd caused, and then back to the murderous look in his brother's eyes. He seemed to shrink for a split second under the weight of his own guilt.
'Go to the hotel,' Caroline hissed at Noel, her voice shaking with pure adrenaline. 'And you too, Liam. Now. Walk to your separate cars, and you don't say another word to each other. The first one to open his mouth gets a lawsuit from me personally. Do you hear me?'
