Part 60

22:32, 21 March 2026

'I don't know how much longer I can stand this..' Caroline breathed, she looked at him and then closed the distance between them, crawling into his arms 'I'm sorry I yelled at you in there'

Noel's arms closed around her instantly, his chin resting on the top of her head. The rigid tension that usually defined him seemed to melt, as he pulled her closer against his chest.

'Forget it,' he murmured into her hair, his voice rougher than usual. 'You had every right to yell. I'm the one who got you into this mess.'

Caroline shivered, her fingers clutching the fabric of his jacket. The smell of him, was the only thing that felt real in the silent street.

'I'm just so tired of waiting for the floor to drop out,' she whispered into his shoulder.

Noel pulled back just enough to look at her, his hands framing her face. His thumbs traced the dark circles under her eyes with a tenderness he rarely allowed himself to show.

'I know,' he said softly. 'But you're not alone anymore. If the floor drops, we both fall. And I'm pretty good at landing on my feet.'

A small, watery smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. 'Arrogant as ever.'

'It's a survival trait,' he countered, a ghost of a smirk touching his lips. He leaned his forehead against hers, their shared breath the only sound in the dimlit street. 'Stay right here. Just for a minute. Let the world wait.'

Noel didn't pull back. Instead, he tightened his grip, his fingers digging slightly into the fabric of her coat as if anchoring them both to that exact patch of pavement.

'Why?' Caroline whispered, her forehead still pressed against his. 'Why wait?'

'Because once we move, the clock starts again,' he muttered, his eyes closing as he inhaled the scent of her hair. 'Once we step out there again, I have to be the version of me that doesn't let anyone get this close, the arrogant Gallagher brother.'

Noel's hands lingered on her cheeks, his thumbs still tracing the delicate skin beneath her eyes. The smirk had vanished, replaced by a heavy, grounding intensity. He wasn't just looking at her anymore; he was searching for something, a silent question hanging in the space between their lips.

'I'm tired of it all,' Caroline whispered, her voice barely audible. 'I just want to stop running.'

He didn't pull away. Instead, he slid his hands from her face to the back of her neck, his fingers tangling in her hair to pull her slightly closer.

'Then stop,' he murmured, his breath warm against her mouth. 'Just for tonight. No plans, no exits. No solutions to be found. Just us.'

He tilted his head, his lips brushing against hers, a tentative, fleeting contact that sent a jolt through her tired frame. It wasn't the arrogant, self-assured Noel she knew; it was a man who was just as starved for a moment of peace as she was.

Caroline didn't hesitate. She closed the tiny gap, her hands sliding up his chest to lock behind his neck, pulling him down. The kiss was desperate and deep, tasting of the lingering adrenaline of the night. It was a release of everything they hadn't said, the fear, the guilt, and the undeniable gravity that had been pulling them together since the start.

When he finally broke the kiss, he didn't let go. He pressed his lips to her temple, his voice a low, gravelly vibration. 'Let's just go somewhere, where we can be alone'

He pulled back, his eyes dark with a raw, honest hunger. 'I want you, Caroline..I need you, we've been waiting long enough'.

Noel tightened his grip on her hand, his pace purposeful as he led her away from the flickering streetlights.

'Not The Lowry,' he muttered, his voice dropping to a low, protective vibration. 'Too many eyes, too many habits. There's a hotel half a mile from here, discreet, no questions asked. The kind of place where privacy isn't just a service, it's the rule.'

Caroline followed him, her fingers laced tightly through his. The tactical distance he always maintained had vanished, replaced by an urgent, almost possessive focus. When they reached the unmarked entrance, a heavy mahogany door tucked between two darkened storefronts, Noel just walked up to the man in the lobby and a keycard changed hands in a few seconds. He moved with the practiced ease of a man who knew exactly where the shadows were deepest.

The elevator ride was silent, charged with a tension so thick it felt like the air was humming. Noel stood close, his shoulder brushing hers, his gaze fixed on the floor numbers as they climbed. But the moment the door to the suite clicked shut behind them, the restraint snapped.

He didn't turn on the lights. In the soft, blue glow of the city filtering through the floor-to-ceiling windows, Noel pressed her back against the door. His hands came up to frame her face again, but this time there was no hesitation.

'Finally,' he rasped, his breath ghosting over her lips. 'No more eyes about, no more distance. Just this.'

He kissed her, not the tentative brush from before, but something deep, hungry, and demanding. It was the kiss of a man who had spent too long denying himself the one thing he actually wanted. Caroline met him with equal fervor, her hands sliding under his jacket, desperate to feel the warmth of him through his shirt.

Noel broke the kiss for a second, his forehead resting against hers, his chest heaving. 'I want you, Caro. Every part of you. And tonight, the world doesn't get to have a say in it.'

Noel didn't wait for an answer; he simply pulled her closer, his mouth never leaving hers as he began to back her away from the door. He moved with a predatory grace, his boots silent on the thick carpet of the suite.

Caroline stumbled slightly, her senses reeling from the sudden shift in his energy. The man who usually stood like a stone wall was now a force of nature, pulling her into his orbit. Noel caught her waist, his hands steadying her, and then he lifted her effortlessly, her feet leaving the floor as he carried her toward the expansive bed.

The room was bathed in the soft, silver glow of the moon, casting long shadows that seemed to isolate them from the rest of existence. When he reached the edge of the mattress, he lowered her slowly, his gaze locked onto hers with a raw, unyielding hunger.

He followed her down, the weight of his body a grounding presence that finally silenced the frantic noise in her head. His hands were everywhere, unbuttoning her coat, sliding the fabric from her shoulders, his touch tracing the line of her collarbone with a reverence that made her heart ache.

'I've spent every night for months imagining this,' Noel whispered against the sensitive skin of her neck, his voice a low, gravelly confession. 'Wondering if I'd ever get the chance to just... be this close.'

He propped himself up on his elbows, looking down at her. The 'arrogant Gallagher brother' was nowhere to be found, replaced by a man who was finally claiming the peace he'd been fighting for. He reached out, his fingers trembling slightly as he brushed a stray lock of hair from her cheek.

'Tonight, there's just this bed, and the silence, and us.'

The air in the room seemed to thin as Noel's gaze held hers, his intensity stripping away the last of her defenses. Caroline reached up, her fingers tangling in the hair at the nape of his neck, pulling him back down to her. The kiss that followed wasn't just passion; it was a conversation, a desperate map of everything they had survived to reach this moment.

His hands were reverent, moving over her skin with a hunger that felt brand new. His hands tugged at her brastraps; letting his teeth graze over the soft, naked skin of her breasts.  'You're so fuckin' beautiful' he whispered.

Noel's voice was a low vibration against her skin, sending a wave of warmth through her. He looked at her with an intensity that reflected months of unspoken feelings. As they stayed close, the connection between them felt electric, a quiet acknowledgment of their unbreakable bond they had built.

The restraint he had practiced for so long gave way to a sincere, heavy longing. He moved with a gentle focus, his hands sliding over her stomach to drift more south and end up between her legs. Every movement was deliberate, his eyes never leaving hers, filled with a depth of emotion that seemed to anchor them both in the moment.

He didn't rush the experience. Instead, he took his time to explore her body for the first time, his breath warm against her skin as he kissed and licked and kneaded his way down on her body.

When he finally moved between her legs and pushed himself deep inside of her, filling her to the hilt, Caroline let out a long cry of pure bliss and pleasure. Her hands dug into his back urging him to start moving, but he was gonna take his time. He pushed himself up on his hands while his eyes drilled into hers with one of his signature smirks as he kept completely still inside of her watching her get restless underneath him. There was no more running, no more shadows in the corner of her eye. Just feeling him inside of her was almost a physical relief, his warm body on hers' a grounding weight that anchored her to the present but the agony of him making her wait made her close her eyes in frustration. For a second there was a flashback to that night when Rob forcefully took what wasn't his to take but she just shook her head and focused on him and her body that was roaring to go.

'Look at me,' Noel whispered, his voice deep and warm, he could almost read her mind when he saw her swallow hard, like she was fighting an image or a flashback.

She opened her eyes, finding his, dark and clouded with a raw, piercing honesty. 'Are you sure?' he frowned, but then he felt her tilt her hips as if she wanted him to bury himself even deeper than he already was. Caroline bit her lip and the soft moan that escaped when she breathed 'I need you so bad, Noel..just fuck me' drove him absolutely mental. He let his lips crash down on hers while he finally started thrusting, slow and deliberate at first, faster and harder as she drove him absolutely crazy.

Soon the room was filled with moans of bliss as Noel finally gave in to the frantic pull of her hips. His rhythm shifting from deliberate strokes to a powerful, driving pace that left them both breathless. Every thrust was a silent vow, a physical reclamation that pushed the lingering shadows of her past further into the dark.

Caroline arched against him, her fingers curling tightly into his shoulders as she found his tempo. The friction was a wildfire, spreading from her core until her entire body felt electric. She didn't just feel him; she felt the weight of his devotion in the way he refused to break eye contact, anchoring her to the heat of the moment.

The air in the room grew heavy and thick with the scent of skin on skin. Noel's composure fractured; his signature smirk vanished, replaced by a raw expression of need. He gripped her thighs, anchoring her as he surged deeper, hitting that perfect, aching spot that made her head toss back in surrender.

Noel felt her body tighten, the tremors of her peak beginning to ripple through her. He reached down, interlacing his fingers with hers and pinning them to the pillow to keep her focused on him. 'Look at me. Come with me, babe. Just us' he growled, his pace turning frantic and deep. 'Stay right here..' he rasped against her mouth, his breath hitching. 'Just you and me, Caro.'

Her response was a broken, melodic cry as the first waves of release began to pulse through her. The world narrowed down to the friction, the sweat, and the solid, unwavering reality of him. Driven by her soft whimpers, Noel let out a low growl, his own control snapping as he followed her into the fray and came buried deep inside of her, both of them collapsing into the quiet, trembling aftermath of a storm they had finally weathered together.

Noel buried his face in the crook of her neck, his pulse erratic against her skin. Gone were all his strategies and worries in this moment; he was just a man, holding onto the only thing that made the chaos worth enduring. Caroline clung to him, her nails digging into his back as the last of her climax rippled through her, her eyes closing as she finally let the floor drop out, knowing that this time, she wasn't alone anymore.

As the intensity eventually faded into a calm stillness, the silence of the room felt soft and protective. Noel didn't pull away; he stayed close, his forehead resting against hers as their breathing gradually synchronized. He eventually moved to his side, pulling her firmly against his chest so she was tucked into the warmth of his embrace. His hand traced a gentle, grounding path along her arm, a gesture of quiet devotion.

'I love you' he breathed in her hair. Caroline went still in his arms, not out of fear, but out of sheer wonder. She turned around just enough to see his face in the dim silver light filtering through the curtains. His eyes, were fixed entirely on her, vulnerable and unarmed.

'Say it again,' she whispered, her voice thick with the remnants of their passion and the sudden weight of his words.

'I love you,' he repeated, his voice stronger this time and without any hesitation. 'I've spent months trying to convince myself that you were 'just my PA' and what we had was purely professional. But I was lying to myself. It was never just about work, Caroline. It was always you.'

He pulled her closer, his hand splaying across the small of her back to anchor her against him. The heat of their bodies was the only thing that felt certain in a world that wanted to pull them apart.

'It was a truth I tried to hide,' he confessed, his forehead dropping back against hers. 'But being here with you... I've never felt more certain of anything. You are the only thing that matters.'

She went still, her heartbeat thrumming against his chest as the full weight of his words sank in. Noel, the man who had seemed to treat emotions as a kind of tactical error for years, had just surrendered his greatest defense.

'I love you too,' she finally whispered back, her voice catching. She shifted upward just enough to look him directly in the eyes.

Noel offered a faint, lopsided smile, a rare, genuine expression that softened the hard lines of his face. He leaned in and pressed a slow, lingering kiss to her lips. This time, it wasn't a hungry claim; it was a vow.

He pulled the heavy duvet over them, tucking her back against his chest so her spine was curved into his warmth. The adrenaline of their passion was slowly replaced by a heavy, peaceful exhaustion. In the distance, a siren wailed through the city streets, a reminder of the world outside that still wanted something from them, but here, in the velvet shadows of the suite, it was finally quiet.

Caroline closed her eyes, for the first time in months, she didn't fall asleep out of pure fatigue, but because she felt safe. Noel stayed awake until her breathing became deep and regular, realizing they both had crossed a line there was no coming back from.
