Prologue
14:58, 2 December 2021Alexa's POV
I sat inside a cafe, a place where I usually spend my morning just drinking a hot black coffee while staring dazedly at the falling snowflakes outside the window. A buzzing vibration disrupted me off my tracks and, I took out my phone from my pocket. A small smile carved its way on my face, seeing the caller ID.
"LHEXI!!!", rubbing my ear, I positioned my phone 2 feet away just so I could test whether my eardrum was still in contact. I just wondered how I got myself such a walking speaker.
"What?", I asked annoyed.
"Hey! Is that how you talk to your best friend? Watch your words!", sighing, I took a sip from my warm and hot black coffee making sure she hears it.
"Oh come on! Ignoring me? Ha!", I can imagine herself flipping her hair back with a smug face.
"Alright, alright what do you want to talk about my lady?"
I picked up my pen and continued writing the story I had on my mind. The sound of scratching paper and the sound of air coming from the air conditioner was all I need to relax until I heard my best friend's annoying high-pitched voice.
"So tell me! Tell me! What did they say?"
I once again rubbed my ear and pondered her questions.
"Well nothing much really, they just asked me if they could adapt my story into a movie film."
I nonchalantly scribbled down as I talk to my friend.
"No way! Oh my! I got to tell my parents about this!"
I smiled, I'm really so lucky to have her as my friend. Supportive and kind. She might not be aware of it but, my life turned upside down when I met her.
I was just an introverted person who does not want too many people around and too much attention until some of my classmates started bullying me. I was sitting at the back of the class reading stories when someone grabbed it from me and threw it outside the window.
I stood up to look for my book when my foot bumped onto something that caused me to trip on the floor which was followed by a series of laughter. They called me different ugly names and cursed me with words I don't wanna hear again. The same thing happened every day, no one even stood up for me, probably because they were scared.
I was pathetic, I knew that better than anyone. I was slowly being driven to suicide until a beautiful blonde woman came into the picture. Long story short, she protected me and defeated the bad guys. Since then, we became inseparable twins.
I didn't notice she was speaking until just now.
"--nd can you believe it?"
"Uhh yeah....?"
"You were not listening right?"
"Oh sorry, come again"
"Hey!"
I laughed, finding it funny to hear her in like this 'cause the worst she hates is when you ignore her.
"Take my SOUL!"
I felt my hair standing up on every inch of my body when I heard a voice of a girl in anguish.
"Kath, Just now, Was that you?"
"Who?"
I was beyond scared, I was hoping it was her playing a joke on me, but it wasn't.
Who is it?
"I sacrifice everything!"
I stood up causing the chair to fall on the floor. The workers seem to not notice it yet. My heart was racing, I could not think well. The voice was, no, the girl was crying, she was desperate for something.
My breathing became ragged and rigid. It was calling for something. For me?
"Lhexi? You okay?"
I can't even respond to her. Something feels stuck in my throat. My lungs were gasping for air, I felt my body weakening as each second passed by. Black dots were slowly blocking my sight.
I lost the grip on my phone and I did not even care when I saw the glass cracked. I stumbled around the coffee shop finding something to support me, my vision was hazy, this time everyone was looking at me. One even went close to me, if I recall his name was Ben, a worker who always serve me my favorite morning coffee.
"Miss Alexa, are you alright?"
My body fell limp on the floor and he immediately caught me. My hands were clenching on his stained shirt determined to stay awake as I feel like my soul is being sucked away.
"Miss Alexa!"
'Am I gonna die?'
I could hear muffled and loud noises everywhere dispersing and my vision was turning black until I had no more energy to spare and let my tired eyes close as a single tear slipped away.
'I'm sorry...Mom...Dad...Kath...'
