Chapter 8
06:08, 8 February 2017Summer POV
I waited patiently for Kylo to return from checking the command shuttle's damaged engines. I kept myself occupied by keeping watch on every person or thing that walked by, making sure none were going to try to bother us. Kylo gave me a comlink so we could alert the other of an emergency while he was outside. He also left a small blaster behind, for my own self defense in case someone managed to sneak on board.
It was surprisingly busy in the spaceport given the time of day it was. By the light of the sky, it was late evening and darkness will hit the planet soon. This didn't look like the place you really wanted to spend the night at...
Thankfully everyone passing didn't give the shuttle a second glance. All were too occupied with their own ships to pay any attention to ours.
The hatch suddenly opened and I jumped to attention, panicking and firing a shot at the entrance. The laser froze in midair and my body also became paralyzed in the Force.
Kylo, his arm outstretched and looking irritated for being shot at, marched inside, shutting the hatch behind him. He released me and clamped his hand in a fist, the laser bolt exploding where it was.
I laughed awkwardly as he walked up to me, motioning to his hand. "Blaster. Now."
I lowered my head and handed it to him. "Sorry."
He sighed, annoyed, and laid the weapon down on the dashboard. "Future note: always look before you shoot. You're lucky I was paying attention."
I nodded but really didn't hear him, having a hard time keeping my eyes off him.
Kylo changed his outfit to make it easier to work in while inspecting the shuttle. The hood and robe was removed to keep anything loose or flowing to get caught or torn on the engines. The armor on his thighs was also removed so he was more mobile and not carrying around extra weight. He took off his long sleeved top to keep him cool, leaving the tank top beneath on (which I certainly didn't mind). The oversized belt also came off, having no use since his robe was gone and his pants were tight enough to stay up on their own. Though he kept his gloves to protect his hands while sticking them in the sharp gears of the engine.
And he was sweaty on top of all this. You can't blame me for practically drooling over him.
"You're staring," Kylo pointed out with a smirk, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I felt my face heating up. "Sorry."
"Am I a little...distracting for you?"
I turned away, not giving him the satisfaction that he was right. "No, my mind is still a bit weird from Jakku. I just went off into thought."
"Right..." He walked past me, stretching as if he was stiff but I knew better. He ran his hand through his messy hair (which still looked perfect) and leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. "So as for the engines: the left one, which was hit, probably isn't even salvageable. It needs replaced. The other one hopefully just needs a few parts to get it back up and running. The wings are a little battered but will hold us the trip home. The biggest problem is daylight. The sun is gone for today and I can't work beneath moonlight. Even if I had the parts, I won't be able to fix anything until there's sunlight again."
"So not until morning?"
"Pretty much."
I mentally swore, hoping that spending the night here wasn't an option.
"Are you hungry? Because I'm famished," he said, changing the subject. "And it's not like we're going anywhere anytime soon."
"Please stop reminding me of that," I asked. "And yes, I'm definitely starving."
He moved into the cockpit, bending over to play with the computer. Not a bad view from my angle, just saying... "Let's see what's around..." He pressed the screen and scrolled through the pics that popped up in a three dimensional, holographic form. "LoBue Cantina and Casino. It's in walking distance from the spaceport. How about there?"
"Is it safe?" I err on the side of caution. Hearing the word "cantina" flashes me back to Mos Eisley, where smugglers, gangsters, wanted criminals, pirates, bounty hunters, and just the less-than-lawful like to flock to. Me go in a place like that? I don't think so.
"Summer, you will be with me and this beauty," Kylo proudly stated, holding up the ancient-styled weapon. "I'll protect you."
He sounded assuring but that could just be to convince me to agree. At least he is calling me by my real name and not "Darth Shadow". I thought those words would be the only thing coming out of his mouth when I was around.
I sighed, giving in. I was too hungry to wait any longer. "Fine. LoBue Cantina it is."
"Just one little thing first..." He exited the cockpit, standing a bit too close for comfort to me. "Your blaster wound. It needs to be dressed better or it will get infected. Come over here."
His hand lightly grasped mine and I found myself blushing again as Kylo led me over to the benches along the wall. He pulled a first aid kit out from beneath the bench and smirked, catching my colored face. "Just can't get over me huh?"
"It's just hot in here." Not technically a lie. My heart was racing right now, which was heating me up.
Kylo accepted the excuse but I could see he knew better. He gently unwrapped the wound, studying the severity of it. "It looks much better than back on Jakku. Like it fixed itself."
"I used the Force for my motion sickness," I said. "I probably healed myself without knowing it."
He nodded. "Most likely. This makes it a lot simpler for me. And I'm sure the pain isn't nearly as bad as it was for you."
"No. I almost forgot it was there until you mentioned it." He dabbed it with a wet washcloth, cleaning it as well as removing the dried blood, and I winced on contact. "But the area is still sensitive."
He lightened his touch. "My apologies. I'll try to be more gentle but I still have to apply some pressure."
I bit back a smile, appreciating the fact that he was trying not to hurt me and caring about my reaction. And he was mocking me before...
Kylo finished cleaning the wound and applied some antiseptic. Then he wrapped it in a cloth bandage and sat back, satisfied with his work. "Not half bad if I do say so myself."
I giggled. "Thank you."
"Okay, so one last thing before we leave for the cantina." He motioned towards me. "Your outfit. It says 'I'm wanted' all over it. If you change it up a bit, like what I did to mine, no one will even glance in your direction."
"I certainly prefer that," I honestly replied. "So what should I change? And where should I change?" The shuttle didn't have enclosed rooms within it, due to its small size. It was merely built for transportation, not comfortable living.
"Surprise me. And unless you plan on stripping to your basics, anywhere is fine."
"You wish," I added, seeing a smirk tug at his lips. "Just give me a few minutes. Wait outside if you don't mind."
It was a moment before he nodded. "Okay. And don't worry about the helmet. That's an instant giveaway. We want to blend in, not stand out. No one knows what I look like, and your face is definitely new to everyone. I'll be outside. Try not go be long, I'm ravenous."
Kylo put on his belt (since that's the safest way to carry the lightsaber), then opened the hatch and descended, leaving me alone in the shuttle. I moved farther away from the door yet not to close to the cockpit, not wanting to be seen by anyone. No I wasn't going to be naked, but I don't want curious eyes on me either.
The pesky armor was the first to go, and I stretched happily, loving to have that weight off my shoulders. Literally. Maybe I can convince Kylo to let me keep this off... I removed the long-sleeved shirt, choosing the sleeveless, zip-up top to ultimately wear since there was no First Order logo on it. I also took off the gloves, happy to have my hands free again. But I kept the belt, for it gave the Gothic look a stylish flare from the way I wore it. The leggings and boots I couldn't change so...I guess I'm done.
I exited the shuttle, smirking as I spotted Kylo Ren avert his gaze from my body at the last moment. He pretended he didn't notice me until I was in front of him. "There you are. About time." Using the Force, he shut the hatch.
I crossed my arms, feeling smug. "A bit distracted, Ren?"
He shook his head, acting as if he didn't know what I meant, but his lightly blushing face gave him away. "Not at all. You?"
"Nope. Just hungry. "
"Same. Stay close to me so we don't have any complications tonight. And don't make eye contact or interact with anyone, for safety reasons. Look tough. Keep your head held high and use determined strides. Okay?"
I nodded, remaining by his side and following his instructions. Creatures passed by us, giving us odd glances but not stopping to make trouble. Not yet anyway.
We left the spaceport and travelled through a small portion of the city, taking a flatboat instead of the sidewalks. I was going to question why but decided to just remain quiet, figuring Kylo knows what he's doing.
The driver pushed us along the canals, finally leading us to open water and out of the city. A surprisingly large building came into sight, right in the middle of the...lake, if you will call it that. Mountains were in the distance, the sunset making them look like faint shadows against the orange and pink sky. Stars were already peeping their heads out from what was going to be a cloudy night.
The building was made of stone, with half a dozen arches meeting the other to look like a pyramid on the flat roof. Two flags stood side by side at the entrance, each as tall as the building itself. Two blue X's were in the center of each flag, stacked on top of the other. I don't know if that was a warning sign or something but I truly would have no problem turning back right now.
"Remember, show no fear," Kylo whispered as the driver maneuvered the narrow flatboat up to the entrance. The bright lights shining from within the cantina lit up the water surrounding it, giving it an eerie glow.
Kylo paid the driver and then, much to my surprise, assisted me out of the flatboat like a gentleman. He even kept his arm rested on the small of my back as we walked up the staircase inside. He's so hungry, it must be doing things to his head.
Then I realized the reason behind this: it was a disguise. We look like just another couple coming here to gamble and party the night away. I felt a little disappointed, and I'll probably wonder why later on.
We passed two security guards on the way in, both eyeing us suspiciously. I kept my eyes averted, looking everywhere but at them. They (thankfully) didn't stop us.
I muttered "whoa" beneath my breath as I took sight of the place. There was a bar in the center, with a good number of tables scattered around. The backside had a dance floor and further back was more tables for the casino. Loud music was playing, a band playing live behind the bar. It was like a more funky tune compared to the iconic Mos Eisley Cantina Band medley.
I swallowed back my nerves, now seeing the things that occupied the crowded joint. Some were human, so I didn't feel too much like a minority. But the humans looked like they were either going to rob or kill me when my back was turned. The rest were aliens and creatures, some I couldn't even guess the species to.
Kylo gently rubbed my back, sensing my reaction to the place. He guided me to a table in the farthest corner of the bar so we could be more secluded and hear each other actually speak. He took the seat opposite of mine, which had the better view of the layout of the cantina. He would keep an discreet eye on everyone here, which put me feel more at ease.
"You need to calm down," Kylo warned quietly as he glanced at the menu. "Your fear can be easily sensed."
"I'm sorry. I just have a bad feeling about this place," I replied softly, not being able to read my menu because it was in Aurebesh. "It feels like I constantly have someone watching me."
"That's because there is." I looked up to see his sight locked with a Nikto walking a little too slowly by with two Rodians behind him. He glared at both of us with his one functioning eye, the other scarred with an eyepatch, then disappeared within the crowd along with his "minions".
"Who- what -was that?" I asked, hoping my voice didn't sound as nervous as I felt.
"Someone who can't mind his own business." Kylo watched the crowd for a few minutes then went back to his menu. "Just continue on like nothing happened. Look normal as if his presence didn't bother you the least. Now...what to order..."
"I can't read my menu." Seeing his odd expression, I clarified, "I don't understand Aurebesh."
"No problem. I'll just order for you."
"How do you know what I want?"
"You will just have to eat what you receive." I'm not sure if he meant to speak that harsh, but knowing Kylo Ren, he probably did. He may be treating me a little better but he's still the hot-tempered Dark Knight.
"Is there a salad of some sorts on there?" I don't want a "surprise" meal. Up here, I want to know exactly what's on my plate.
His eyes skimmed the menu then he nodded.
"Then I can order for myself." I'm sure whoever will wait on us will speak Galactic Basic.
He shrugged, not caring.
A server droid, which looked similar to the tailor droid that made my clothes, rolled up with a tray attached to its right hand. "Good evening. We have fresh fish cakes available in the kitchen, may I offer either of you any?"
A fish cake? If the name is its literal meaning, I am officially grossed out.
"No, save the dessert for later," Kylo replied. He is actually considering to eat that?! "Fetch us some drinks."
"What do you desire, sir?"
"Corellian brandy. Bring back two glasses."
"Oh, I don't drink," I pointed out, then telling the droid, "Just water for me."
"Your drinks will be out shortly. Feel free to enjoy the live music and entertainment while you wait." The droid sped off to the bar.
"So...no brandy tonight, huh?" Kylo inquired, sounding more teasing then curious.
"I just don't drink." And I certainly don't plan on starting tonight in this place.
"Is it alright if I-"
"Of course, of course," I answered without hesitation. "Feel free. It won't bother me."
"I rarely have a drink; that's more of Hux's thing. A glass of wine every night. I never understood how his mind could be so sharp the next day. I just like to treat myself once in a while. Corellian brandy is light and doesn't really affect me."
"As long as you're able to repair the shuttle tomorrow, I don't care how much you drink tonight."
He bit back a smile. "Oh, trying to kill me off already? I thought I drove you crazy."
Denial was hard when he used that adorable yet flirty tone. "Maybe not the way you presumed."
The droid rolled up with our drinks, placing both glasses down before apologizing and speeding off to a table that was calling it over.
Kylo held his glass up. The liquor was golden brown and looked as smooth as silk. "Cheers to the First Order, and soon the extinction of the Resistance. And cheers to my new apprentice, whom I hope will rise to the heights of the galaxy."
I smiled, raising my glass up as well, though not technically agreeing with what he said. "Cheers."
We drunk simultaneously, yet Kylo scrunched his face up after a sip of his drink. "Wow that's..." He coughed, his voice sounding strained. "Stronger...than I remember it to be."
I passed my water across the table. "Here. Help get it down."
He took off gulp of my water, sighing with relief after. His voice went back to normal. "Thank you. That's much better."
I took my glass back, mentally remembering which side he drunk off (it's just gross from anyone, I'm sorry). "No problem. Why don't you order something else that might be easier to drink?"
He eyed the brandy. "This should be easy to drink, that's what baffles me." He sipped it, wincing yet taking another sip after. "It's just a really strong bottle I suppose. I've never had a problem getting this down."
"Well, that could happen." I drunk my water, pleased to stay away from the fire he was forcing himself to consume.
Kylo kept sipping his drink, licking his lips after to get a better taste of it. "It gets easier the more you drink of it. But the flavor...I don't recall the spicy kick to it."
"Maybe it was changed?"
He suspiciously studied his drink. "That would be odd but...maybe..."
The server droid came back to us, apologizing again for leaving before. We each ordered- Kylo requested some kind of stew and I a salad -then it sped off once again, clearly overloaded with customers tonight.
A small window was next to our table, giving me a glance at the Old Patch (the city we were in). The full moon was now high in the sky, it's rays reflecting and rippling in the water surrounding the cantina. I couldn't see the mountains from this side, but the older-styled city at night was beautiful. Some flatboats floated by with lanterns, guiding their lovers along the lake. My mind imagined Kylo and I in one of those boats and I secretly wished it would come true. How romantic that would be...
I turned back to Kylo and gasped at his appearance. He looked half conscious, struggling to keep his eyes open and rubbing his head to keep himself awake. Clearly the drink had taken an astounding affect on him.
"Kylo? You don't look well..."
"I'm f-fine," he mumbled, not sounding well at all. "Just a l-little...t-tired..."
"I thought that wouldn't make you drunk," I said, passing my water yet again to him. "Here. This will weaken it."
He didn't take it, just staring off into space.
"Kylo?"
His head suddenly slumped forward and I jumped out of my seat, rushing over to him. I lifted him back up, resting his head against the back of the cushiony chair. No seemed to care, and those who saw just turned the other way. Perhaps this is a common sight here, to see someone pass out from drinking too much. Though Kylo didn't even finish half of his glass...something isn't right.
"Kylo? Kylo! Kylo, wake up!" I shook him, trying to get him out of the comatose state he induced himself into.
He was out cold. And I was determined to figure out why.
After making sure Kylo would stay upright, I marched across the crowded floor with the glass of Corellian brandy in my hand, right up to the bar. An Ithorian bartender, wearing a translator on his oversized head to speak Basic, glared at me. "Can I help you?"
"Something is wrong with this drink," I complained, my tone easily implying I was angry. "My friend is unconscious and he barely drunk anything-"
"Not my problem if he can't tolerate his alcohol," he fired back at me. "I fix every drink the way the customer orders it. If they have an issue with it, the problem becomes theirs, not mine."
"But my friend has drunk Corellian brandy many times before and it has never made him this drunk-"
"Again, not my problem." I can see I will get nowhere with the slug-like creature. "Now if you will excuse me, I have more important things to do than argue with a girl about her boyfriend's alcohol tolerance!"
He slithered off before I could think of something plucky to say in return. I looked at the half full glass. Maybe there is nothing wrong with it. Kylo did say he rarely drinks, so perhaps a glass would affect him this badly.
"Having trouble with your drink lady?" an older man sitting on a stool beside where I was standing said. "You will never be able to get that Ithorian to take the blame for it."
"I...I'm not sure if there's anything wrong with it," I honestly answered. "My friend is now unconscious and he only drunk half of this."
"What is it?"
"Corellian brandy."
The man furrowed his brows. "That shouldn't happen. Even first time drinkers could hold a glass of that brandy down. Let me see that." He took the glass and sipped it, immediately spitting it out once he got a taste on the alien next to him, who looked like he wanted to break the guy's neck for that. "This is not Corellian brandy. I mean the base of it is, but there's something additional in it...though I'm not sure what. Your friend order anything special in this?"
I shook my head. "No, just plain."
The alien mumbled something in a weird language to the man as he wiped himself down with a towel a server droid gave him. The man glanced back at him. "Really?"
The alien nodded.
"Huh. My uncle used that stuff too."
"What did he say?" I asked, wishing I understood what was conspiring between them.
"Sleeping powder," the man replied as if this answered my question. Seeing my still confused expression, he added, "The thing next to me here says the brandy has sleeping powder in it. He can smell it. And he recognizes it because he used to smuggle-"
The alien growled and the man shot the creature a look. "Does she look like the authorities to you?"
The two of them began to argue but I didn't hear them, my mind whirling. Sleeping powder. That has to be why Kylo is unconscious. But this seems too suspicious for an accidental pour into the glass (why would that slug have sleeping powder behind the counter), this was intentional. Which only meant one thing...
Someone knows we're here, and wants to make clear that he doesn't like it.
I know just the person.
Hux POV
"Sir, we're over the base."
I crossed the frigid room to the officer at one of the computer terminals. "Shall we land?"
I sighed and nodded, knowing that was best for the Star Destroyer as well as the crew. "Immediately."
Poe Dameron POV
"Here she comes BB-8," I said, watching the Resistance troop transporter land in the sandy desert. He chirped back a joyful reply.
I found a way to contact the Resistance at this trading post (or whatever it's called) nearby where I downed the X-Wing. Leia didn't sound angry but mostly concerned and glad to hear I made it through the crash alive, which of course was a relief to me. Though I am still embarrassed for failing to complete her mission.
Troops disembarked from the long and narrow ship with Leia following them. She embraced me in a tight hug, surprising me. It's been ages since I've received a hug. It reminded me of how much I miss my mother. "Thank goodness you're alright."
I hugged her back, liking it. "A bit beat up, but nothing I can't handle."
After a few minutes she released me, but I could have held on longer. "I am so sorry for putting you in so much risk. I have so much hope in getting my son back that I almost lost my best pilot."
Best pilot. That comment was exactly what my ego needed. The embarrassment was gone. "Well, I'm sorry about the X-Wing but-"
"Forget the darn starfighter, I'm just glad you survived the horrible crash."
No one could possibly be happier than me that I lived through it. "If it helps, I did knock an engine out of Ky- I mean Ben- or do I even use a name..."
She smiled but I could tell it was forced. Her patience wears quickly with this fragile subject. "Ben is fine."
"Okay, well the shuttle he was flying now has a damaged engine. It won't be able to make it back to the Unknown Regions."
"So he would have been forced to land to make repairs." Even with her age, she always catches on quickly.
I nodded. "Exactly. But the question is where?"
Leia turned to the soldier nearest to her. "I need a layout of the nearby planets to Jakku. I also want any knowledge you can give about the planet's terrain, population, cities, alliance with which side...you know what to do."
The soldier dutifully nodded and marched back into the transporter. Leia directed her attention back to me, motioning to the ship. "So, need a ride home?"
I laughed. Her unique sense of humor always could perk me up on the most gloomy of days. "I thought you would never ask."
BB-8 suddenly began beeping wilding and I knelt down to him. "What's wrong buddy?"
He beeped again, staring off into the desert towards the trading post. I cupped and narrowed my eyes, straining to see what was bothering him. "I don't see anything BB-8."
"What's wrong Poe?" Leia asked, sounding concerned.
I shrugged, rising back to my full height. "Not sure. BB-8 says his sensors detect two life forms heading in our direction but I don't see anyone."
A soldier gave Leia a pair of binoculars and she scanned the surrounding area. "Me neither. Maybe his sensors are damaged from the crash."
"Maybe." BB-8 stared hopefully up at me, waiting for me to back him up. "Look, I think you might be having some technical difficulties-"
He beeped again, this time using some words I didn't even know he had programmed in his system. "Language BB-8. Language."
He rolled towards the trading post, motioning again for me to look. I sighed. "Fine. I'll check again. Leia could I borrow your binoculars?"
She handed me them and I searched the barren wasteland once again for whatever BB-8 thinks he senses. I was about to give up when I saw two heads pop up from behind a sand dune nearby us. The heads were followed by two human men that came into form. One was badly limping, basically hopping along, using the person next to him as support to walk.
I lowered the binoculars, looking sympathetic at BB-8. "Sorry for ever doubting you."
He beeped back he forgave me, but the way he suddenly rolled away into the transporter showed he would hold a grudge. I rolled my eyes. I thought Artoo was the only one with this attitude.
Leia told the troops to remain on guard, but they probably won't be needed. With the older of the men injured and the younger aiding him, the threat was reduced to basically nothing.
I stepped forward, still ready to defend our precious Resistance general if necessary. "Can we help you two?"
"Please! We need help!" the younger man, or boy even, shouted back. "My master had his leg severed off by Kylo Ren!"
Leia gasped, moving past me to the injured man. His half of a leg was wrapped with cloths like a quick bandage so he wouldn't bleed to death. Luckily lightsabers burn the flesh and arteries as they slice, so whatever gash they leave behind will not bleed as badly as if it was just a normal injury. Her eyes filled with tears and her voice cracked from crying. "I'm sorry."
The man forced a smile and laid a hand on her shoulder. "It's not your fault."
"But it is..."
"No. It isn't."
The boy looked as curiously between both of them as I did. It was almost as if they have known each other forever, like friends being reunited after so many years apart. The look they exchanged would silent even the most unruly of people.
"General, he needs medical assistance immediately," I said, hoping I wasn't interrupting. "We need to get him back to the base."
She nodded and looked back to the man. "Come with us. We can help you."
He smiled again through the pain and agony of whatever was left of his leg. "Yes. I would appreciate that. Thank you."
Two soldiers came over and assisted the man aboard, Leia staying close behind as if feeling the need to watch over him.
I turned to the boy, who looked a bit too nicely dressed to be a scavenger. "Why would Kylo injure your...master, did you say before?"
The boy's blue eyes showed stress and fear for the life of his beloved teacher. "Because...we're Jedi."
Summer POV
"We need to get out of here," I urged to Kylo's unconscious body as I tried to lift him up. He wasn't fat, but he was all muscle. I finally gave up, setting him back down on the wraparound booth. How the heck am I going to move this guy?
"You're not going anywhere," a voice as rough as gravel and as icy as Hoth said from behind me. Let me guess...
I looked back to see the Nikto with his blaster raised at me, along with his Rodian pals waiting to draw their weapons if necessary.
"What's going on over there?" The Ithorian bartender shouted from his drink mixing station.
The Nikto jerked his blaster aside, firing a single shot without looking, then pointed it back at me. The slug creature slumped onto the floor, now lifeless. The crowd scattered and fled for the exits, not wanting to get sucked into the problem. Everyone was literally running for their lives out of here.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked, planning an escape route in my head as I stalled him.
"Because Han Solo owes me a large debt that he never payed off." How did he know that Kylo was Han's son? To say the least, Kylo probably hasn't shown his actual face (between training with Luke then as a Dark Knight) in public for probably twenty years.
I cautiously inched my arm behind me as I spoke, hoping none of these hooligans would notice the lightsaber on Kylo's belt. I left my blaster back at the shuttle but that wouldn't do me any good right now anyway. "What does that have to do with us?"
"That's Han Solo's kid," the Nikto answered, pointing his leathery-skinned finger at Kylo. "I know the face. They have matching noses."
That's not weird at all... My hand finally reached the hilt and I wiggled it off his belt, firmly grasping it. Wow this is heavy. "Okay...well I'm afraid you have the wrong guy. Han's son died years ago." Not necessarily a lie in a way.
"No, that is definitely a Solo. And I'm getting back what's owed to me, one way or another. Boys, tie him up."
I stood boldly in front of Kylo, keeping the lightsaber hidden behind my back, but not for much longer. "Stay away from him."
The horns twitched on his ugly face. "Make us."
The Nikto grabbed my and pushed me off to the side onto the floor. I went for the lightsaber but found it missing from my grasp. I looked up in horror at the hilt in the half-human's hand. "Thought I didn't see you go for this huh?" He laughed and I thought a window would break from the awful noise. His eyes studied the weapon. "Ancient design. This will definitely be worth something on the black market."
I watched helplessly as the Rodians began tying Kylo up with rope, gagging him before anything else. Kylo occasionally twitched, the sleeping powder possibly already wearing off because of the light dose. My blood boiled with every yank of the rope. I could feel the anger rising in my body, and I felt like I wanted to explode. But what could I do? I have a blaster aimed at me.
No, I'm not going to just sit here and let them do this to him. They're messing with the wrong girl...
The Force pulled me to my feet then insisted on what to do next. Didn't matter how devious it sounded, I would do anything to save him right now.
The Nikto noticed me get up and took a step closer to me. "You move from that spot and I will pull the trigger. Or we can keep this less...messy. Be a good girl and sit down on that chair."
I heard only half of what he said, feeling like I was off into another world. Perhaps this is what being one with the Force is like, but the Dark Side of the Force. Too many evil thoughts are running about my mind. Too many temptations to kill were pulsing through my veins. This...this must be how Anakin felt when his mother died in his arms at the Tusken Raider camp on Tattoine. He had a demand for revenge, and I feel compelled to do the same.
I reached my arm out, focusing intensely on the lightsaber in the Nikto's leathery hand. He said something to me, but I didn't hear. It was just me and the lightsaber.
The weapon wiggled in his hand the suddenly flew at me. I caught it, my eyes wide in shock with what I just did. The Nikto was the same way. The Rodians even stopped what they were doing, too eager to see what was going to happen next.
The moment the lightsaber met with my hand, I was transported into a vision, finding myself standing on the walkway in the thermal oscillator on Starkiller Base. Voices to my left made my head turn, and I gasped in horror at Han Solo (Han Solo!) trying to convince his son to come home.
"I know what I must do, but I don't if I have the strength to do it," Kylo admitted, his voice cracking and his eyes filled with tears. "Will you help me?"
"Yes. Anything," Han replied, not aware of what was about to come.
"Don't do it!" I shouted to Kylo as he began to hand his weapon over, though my voice sounded like a distant echo. Then I remembered: this is just a vision. But why do I need to see this?
As soon as Kylo impaled Han, I came back into reality, badly shaken by what I just saw. It seemed so real, but it was only a vision. I fought back tears, hating that I was forced to witness that. Watching it in a movie is bad enough, but living it...
A shot suddenly flew by me, the Nikto clearly unhappy I took his bonus money maker away. I fumbled with the weapon and turned it on just in time and it, much to my luck, happened to deflect another shot. I stared in awe yet also in horror at the red beam of light in front of my eyes. I can't believe I get to wield an actual lightsaber. But being that is Kylo's...I was also freaked out.
The Nikto growled, sounding more animal than human. "Give that back!"
I looked past him at Kylo, feeling that anger rise again. The Force begged to take my body over and I let it, knowing that was my only way of survival.
I raised the cross-guard styled weapon in front of me, ready for any move the Nikto might make. "Make me," I tempted.
The Nikto waved to his minions and they also raised their blasters. He smirked, his leather face wrinkling extra and making himself look a bit like either a horned Jabba or the Emperor. "Last chance."
I held my ground, locking eyes with the creature, showing I meant business.
The Nikto started firing followed by the Rodians. It's like the world became slow-motion. I waved the weapon around despite its weight, deflecting most shots and dodging others. Every miss fueled me, and I started getting better and better. I have no idea how I'm doing this but I'm not questioning it.
I suddenly saw an opening and ran forward, ramming the lightsaber through the Nikto. The Rodians stopped firing, dropping their blasters in shock and fright and raising their arms to live.
The pirate struggled for air. "You m-may have w-won...but I-I always g-get the last m-move..."
I sensed him raising his blaster and I shoved him off the lightsaber, the shot instead hitting a light in the ceiling. I watched him take his last breath, then pass on into the next world.
I looked up at the Rodians, who were pleading in their language (I'm guessing, I have no idea what they're saying) to be spared. I merely waved the weapon at them and they ran as fast as their scaly legs could carry them out the front door.
Seeing no other threat was around, I turned off the lightsaber and attached it to the metal clasp on my belt. I was panting, tired from what I had to go through, but I felt stronger than ever before. I saved not only my life, but Kylo's as well. I was actually proud of myself, not caring so much about the dead Nikto on the floor.
I turned to Kylo, who actually had his eyes open but still looked half alseep. I slipped off the gag. "Are you alright?"
He blinked a few times, obviously having trouble focusing. "I...what happened..." He noticed the slain half-human creature on the ground then stared in shock back at me. "You did that?"
Before I could answer, voices were heard at the entrance. Lights flickered off the side of the staircase as people (or things) ascended. They would be in here within a minute or two, and I don't want to stick around to see if they would be allies or enemies. The Rodians probably told on me, and now security will be on us.
"Who is coming?" he asked, his voice sounding groggy.
"Probably people we want to stay away from. I'll explain later," I said, panicking as I unbound the ropes around him. I glanced around the large and empty cantina, spotting the kitchen in the back. We could hide there. "Can you stand?"
"I hope so," Kylo replied, still sounding like he could drift back off into the unconscious state at any moment.
I quickly helped him to his feet. He swayed and stumbled into me once (I don't know if that was "accidental") but he managed to walk briskly to the kitchen before security entered the cantina.
I spotted a back door and pulled him along, guiding him since he was uneasy on his feet. We stepped out and nearly plunged into the water surrounding the building. We were on a ledge, like a place to dock a boat, but only a small one. I couldn't take three steps without falling off. This is where the restaurant receives its shipments. I cautiously shut the door, hoping security wouldn't check out here. Mostly because if the door was to open, we would be taking a bath.
"I hope you have a plan," Kylo mumbled, rubbing his head. "Unless you want to swim out of here."
"Just give me a minute," I snapped, though not meaning to. I was frustrated and I just needed a moment to think.
"I hear them coming," he said, pressing his head to the door. "At least I think I do. I don't know. My head feels like I've been dunked in a bacta tank, ugh."
"Hang in there. We might have a way off this island..."
He furrowed his brows and followed my line of sight to an empty flatboat floating far off along the water, a sign of poor restraints to the dock it should have been at.
I smirked. "There's our ticket out."
He glanced at me. "It's out there. We're right here. How do you plan on getting to it?"
I closed my eyes, extending my arm over the water towards the gondola.
Kylo POV
She's using the Force. Smart move.
I watched her focus on our only source of transportation, anxious to see if she could actually do this.
Though I'm not sure if it was a dream before, I thought I saw Summer call my lightsaber to her, then slay the Nikto. Waking up to find the dead pirate proves that the dream was probably reality, I just wasn't conscious enough to process what I was seeing. Watching (with what sight my eyes granted me) her take charge and handle the situation the way she did overwhelmed me. I am beyond impressed. And, if I'm not mistaken...
She just took her first step towards the Dark Side of the Force. She used her anger as fuel and let her emotions control her. I'm a better teacher than I thought.
I leaned against the door for support, feeling a dizzy spell coming on. Whatever the heck was in that drink clearly has bad side effects.
The flatboat suddenly swayed on the water and started inching its way towards us, gradually increasing its speed. I looked at Summer, feeling proud of her. Her power is growing quickly, and I can't wait to properly begin her training.
The door tried to open behind me and I held it shut with the Force. The people- security, did she say? -obviously knowing of our presence. The noise startled Summer and she snapped out of controlling the flatboat.
"Just ignore the noise! There will always be distractions, work through them!" I huffed and groaned, struggling to keep the door shut. It wasn't so much the weight, but I am in no condition to use the Force. I can't concentrate with my mind like this.
"But-"
"Summer, get that flipping boat over here or we're swimming!"
I know the pressure I was putting on her. One can't focus when stressed out. You can't will the Force to happen, you have to make it happen.
She pointed her arm out again, though I could tell she encountered struggle to get back into that frame of mind. The flatboat finally did begin moving again, but still not fast enough.
"Summer, hurry!" I urged, feeling the door creaking open, inch by inch. "I can't hold it....much...longer..."
I felt something bump into the "dock" and looked back in relief at the flatboat waiting for passengers. Summer boarded first and I followed, but because of my state of mind I basically fell in. And in turn, I let the door go.
It burst open and two muscular human security guards held their blasters at firing point. I'm not physically or mentally strong enough right now to stop a shot in midair, or even use a simple Force-Mind Trick. This is not how I thought my life would end...
"Is the cantina open? My boyfriend and I were looking for a quick bite to eat," Summer asked innocently, sounding so convincing I had to remind myself it was a lie.
The guards exchanged a look between each other then lowered their weapons. Wow, they actually bought it.
"No, the cantina is closed for the night ma'am due to some problems with the guests earlier," one of the men said. "Our apologies. Though there is a diner a few blocks over once you reach the city limit. Very good food in my opinion."
"You think all food is good," the other man mocked.
"Hey, I like food. What can I say?"
"But that doesn't make it good!"
"Thank you for the suggestion, we will try there next," Summer sweetly said, grabbing their attention yet again.
"And stay out of trouble you two," the first guard said, winking before shutting the door.
I looked at her, dumbfounded yet impressed. "You certainly have a way with men."
She smirked. "I know."
Summer POV
I grabbed the oar and, after a few unsuccessful attempts to figure out how to use it, we were soon off into the deeper areas of the water. Kylo stayed down at the bottom of the flatboat, taking advantage to nap off the poison until we reached a place to crash for the night. Certainly there were hotels nearby in the city, otherwise the shuttle was our only other option. But there were no living quarters built into the ship, so where to sleep would definitely be an issue.
I steered the flatboat left and entered a canal, studying each building we passed. Most were dark, either shops closed for today or private residences showing their day was done. I stifled back a yawn. I can't stop now. Kylo needs me.
I saw security further down the canal, talking with some passing byers. For precautionary measures I changed course, veering right down a different canal.
It was a lucky move actually, for this street seemed to be the one I was looking for. Nearly every business and restaurant was open, and the sidewalks were fairly crowded with those who longed for the night.
One specific building caught my eye, and I pushed the flatboat up the dock to park. It was then I figured out why this boat was just drifting along: there were no restraining materials. I strained to keep the flatboat against the dock, using the oar as a balance. I couldn't keep it here forever; the constant moving stream of water was way stronger than I.
I kicked Kylo awake, though maybe a bit too hard for he groaned. "Sorry for the rude awakening, but you need to jump."
He mumbled something and rolled over, not caring.
"KYLO REN GET UP!" Thankfully no one was paying enough attention to hear me scream his name.
He reluctantly sat upright and was about to protest when he saw what I was doing. "What the-"
"JUMP NOW!"
I leaped out onto the dock, Kylo barely managing to do the same before the flatboat drifted along again. Though he didn't exactly land on his feet...
He cursed as he shakily stood back up, brushing dirt from his black clothes. "My coordination and balance is all off. What the heck was in my drink?"
"Sleeping powder," I answered, holding onto his shoulder to keep him upright. "It should wear off by morning." Hopefully.
"Let me guess: it was the Nikto."
"Why else did you think I killed him?"
He awkwardly bit his lip. "Well, I suppose I should thank you for that then."
"Oh, your welcome." I tried hard not to blush from the compliment as I led him into the establishment. By the grand lobby, topped with lavish decor, high ceilings, and freshly polished floors, I knew I picked the right place to spend the night. But also a very expensive one.
"May I help you?" the receptionist asked in a friendly tone. Her eyes glanced a bit too long at Kylo, who didn't seem to mind the attention.
"We would like a room for tonight," Kylo replied before I could. My temper fuse was lit as he flashed a smile at her, making her giggle. "Is there anything available?"
"I could probably squeeze you in," she said, winking before checking the computer. "Yes, I have a room on the ninth floor. It includes a terrace with a beautiful view of the city."
He smiled again and I thought she was going to faint. I rolled my eyes, disgusted. "Sounds perfect. We shall take it. How much?"
"Five hundred credits."
Kylo brushed the shock of the number aside and pretended to be disappointed. "That is...more than I have... I'm afraid we will have to go elsewhere. A shame, for I was longing to stay at such at such a lovely resort."
"Maybe I could adjust the number a little bit," the receptionist said, not wanting you lose a customer. "What can you pay?"
"Two hundred credits."
"I cant go that low. Four fifty."
"Three hundred."
"I can't go lower than four..."
He thought for a moment. "Three and a half. Last offer."
She hesitated then nodded. "Fine. I'll just give you the employee discount. Just don't mention the number to my boss."
"Of course not...this can be our little secret." He winked and I swear she was going to melt like ice cream on a summer day. "Mind if I pay in the morning? I am so tired tonight. Had a long flight, and my shuttle broke down."
She covered her mouth as she gasped in dismay. "Oh no. That is just dreadful. Don't worry about payment until tomorrow." She handed him a small, plastic key card. "Elevators are to the right and left sides of the lobby behind me. I hope you enjoy your stay."
Kylo took the card from her, his hand "accidentally" brushing against hers. "I already am."
"Come on Romeo," I mocked, dragging him away to the elevators before they could flirt with each other anymore. "The lady has a job to do."
"Hey, I just got us the room for cheaper," he pointed out once out of earshot. "And if possible I'm going to try to avoid payment tomorrow morning."
I pressed the button to call for the elevator and crossed my arms. "Whatever. Let's just get you upstairs before some maid catches your eye."
Kylo leaned against the wall, looking unsteady in his feet, but his mouth surely wasn't. "Oh, do my ears deceive me? Is that jealousy in your voice?"
The elevator arrived and I entered, Kylo basically stumbling inside. I pressed the ninth floor and the machine began ascending. "I'm not jealous. But if you're not supposed to date anyone, then you shouldn't flirt."
"Can't a guy have some fun once in a while?"
"A Dark Knight can't. You have a duty to Snoke as well as the First Order. You know you can't do that kind of thing. Otherwise we would be-" I cut myself off, not wanting to get into that subject. "Never mind."
He strolled over to me, standing a bit too close for comfort. I felt his hot breath on my neck as he spoke. "We would be...what?"
I took a step away, feeling awkward enough as it was. "Nothing Kylo. Just forget I ever said anything."
The elevator jerked slightly and Kylo fell against me, now having me pinned to the side wall. The elevator stopped for a moment then continued on as if nothing happened. I wonder if that was Kylo's doing...
Being this close, he was now looking at me differently. There was that spark of lust that was there since day one, returning once again as a longing for love, since he has been deprived of it for so many years. He lightly leaned his forehead against mine and I let him, missing this side of him. In the beginning I hated it, but now I wished it would come back and stay permanently. His lips looked as tender as the inside of a rose petal, and I was tempted for a kiss.
But...the rules were still in effect. He was banished from a relationship; that has not changed. No matter what was to happen tonight...tomorrow we would still be the master and apprentice and only that.
The door opened in perfect timing, because I couldn't bare to stand here with him any longer. My feelings are too strong. I gently pushed Kylo off and walked out the elevator ahead of him, needing just a few seconds to breathe. I continued down the hallway until I found our room number, then I waited for him to catch up, knowing he was slower than usual. He arrived surprisingly quickly with the key card in hand. Kylo didn't say anything, not mad but probably just unsure of how to act, as he unlocked the door and let us inside. I made sure he locked the door back up, not wanting to deal with another surprise attack tonight.
The room was decently sized, with a king-sized bed to the right and the left side wall of the room was made entirely of glass, showing the city and terrace. The bathroom was straight ahead along with a closed door to a connecting room, which neither of us knew if we were privileged to.
Kylo sighed happily as he saw the bed. "Finally!" He pulled back the covers and laid down, shutting his eyes and moaning with pleasure at the comfort. "Oh yes...this is definitely what I have been waiting for..."
I laughed as I stood by the bedside. "Comfortable?"
"I honestly wouldn't care if it was hard as a rock. My body is just begging for sleep..." He yawned, wiggling himself deeper into the fluffy mattress. "This feels so good..."
"Here. Let me help you," I insisted, knowing he wouldn't move from that position until morning. I took off his boots and the oversized belt, then pulled the covers up to his chest. "I'll keep an eye out for both of us tonight. Just rest and feel better tomorrow, alright?"
His mouth moved but nothing came out, being too tired to even speak anymore. I smiled, loving how adorable he was while he slept. I gently kissed his forehead then walked away, letting him have his peace.
I spotted complimentary snacks lined up on a tray on a small table, and I then remembered I still haven't eaten yet. I'm not waking Kylo up, he needs to just sleep. I ate my fill on whatever looked edible, then crossed the room to the lookout of the city. There was a sliding glass door that led onto the terrace, and I (as quietly as I could) opened it and stepped onto the platform.
The city was certainly beautiful at night, with the canal being lit up from the moon and a few taller buildings (you could call them skyscrapers, but they weren't like NYC height) glistening against the stars. I sat down against the sliding glass door, taking the scenery in. Finally. A moment of peace...
The pouch on my belt vibrated, startling me. I dug inside and pulled out the holopad, which was flashing blue and rattling. I curiously studied it, wondering what was causing it to act up. I pressed a few different buttons, trying to make it stop, when a holographic image of a person appeared.
I yelped with fright, because clearly I was not expecting that, dropping the device and backing away until I hit the railing of the terrace. The image sputtered and started pixeling. The sound was also terrible, like a scratched record. "Kylo Ren?"
If the voice, from what I could make of it, wasn't an instant giveaway, I immediately recognized the miniature holographic version of Hux. I scooted back towards the holopad. "General?"
"The reception...I can't understand....move out...open space..."
I picked up the device and walked out to the edge of the terrace, trying to get a better connection. The imagine automatically became clear and the sound corrected itself. "Better?"
The general nodded. "Much. Where is Ren?"
"Sleeping."
"Could you wake him?"
"He really needs to rest," I insisted. "Can't you talk to me?"
"If I must." I distinctively saw an eye roll but decided to just let it slide. "We had to make an emergency landing on our new base, which I prefer to not say the name because I don't trust the satellite signal." Right...you don't trust me. "Needless to add, the Finalizer took minor damage on the entry of the planet and we should be able to get back into space soon. That is...if Ren and you could actually return to us with the parts."
The blunt attitude wasn't necessary. "Well General, we would but unfortunately we had an issue on Jakku and also made an emergency landing of our own on Abregado-rae. The shuttle's ion engines are damaged and we're stranded here."
He looked like Grand Moff Tarkin as he crossed his left arm and rubbed his chin with his right hand. "For how long?"
I shrugged. "If Kylo is feeling well enough to start working on it tomorrow morning, and we can find the parts, then...I don't know, a few days, maybe?"
Hux cursed. "Everyone is stuck living on the Finalizer. The base only has a miniscule section completed, and the living conditions here are brutal." His coat blew to the side and he pulled the collar up, trying not to shiver in front me. He must be standing outside. "What do you mean by 'feeling well enough'? Is Ren ill?"
"Well, let's just say he accidentally consumed sleeping powder."
He pursed his lips in thought. "Sleeping powder...I've heard of that before. Ewok tribes used it on their captives. Only the tribal leader had the authority to 'cast the spell'. Truly it's just rubbing the powder onto the unlucky trespassers or invaders. It's so effective there is no need to ingest it. If I'm not mistaken, the effects should wear off within twenty-four hours, though I've never heard of someone actually eating it. How did this happen?"
"Some pirate had a debt with Kylo's father, and decided to take it out on him," I explained, Hux shocked to see the Dark Knight's past brought up. "He put the poison in Kylo's drink."
"But Ren was actually recognized as Han Solo's son?"
I nodded.
"Do they even look alike? I have never met the man, which I have no regrets about."
"Sort of."
Hux digested the news. "Interesting. A shame, because it only delays your return but I suppose it can't be corrected any faster if willed. I do request that you arrive back here as soon as possible, for the crew's sake."
"We will do our best, General," I replied, not being able to do much else. "Hopefully within a few days."
"As do I." He paused, looking like he wanted to say more, but unsure if he should. His eyes studied me. "Something is bothering you."
I nodded, not going to try to lie. "I'm...worried about Kylo."
"Sleeping powder is not deadly," he clarified. "He will be alright after a long night's rest."
"No, not that, I just..." I sighed. I'm looking to a psycho for advice, is this what my life has come to? "Hux, he is all out of sorts. He has little balance or coordination, will he really be in the right mindset to work on his shuttle tomorrow?"
"Summer, I can't answer that." Wow, he actually remembered my name. "You will have to wait until morning to see if the poison has worn off."
"I just don't see him being well enough to do anything for a while."
"Then take charge of the situation," he urged, or more like ordered. "Find the parts. Get a mechanic. Fix the shuttle. Come back to us."
I smirked. "You really miss me that bad?"
Another eye roll. "However would I manage to carry on without your presence...and Ren? Things might actually work for a change without his influence."
Right. Starkiller blowing up was completely Kylo's fault.
He grabbed his coat again as another wind blew against him. "I must go...this blasted weather is going to knock out the sig-"
His image suddenly disappeared, whatever was happening on his end having a cruel affect on the connection. I sighed and returned the holopad to the pouch. Maybe Hux was right (those words would probably never be repeated again), I should take charge of the situation like I did at the cantina.
I got up and went back inside the room, admiring a peacefully sleeping Kylo. I would hate to leave him here, but I have too much on my mind to sleep, so I might as well make something of my extra energy.
I shut and locked the sliding glass door, then pulled the curtains across in case anyone could look inside. I made sure Kylo was covered nicely beneath the sheets (that's just the motherly side of me). I was going to leave him a note, but he wouldn't understand the writing, since I don't know the Galactic Basic alphabet. This is really becoming a hindrance, I need to learn it once this mess blows over. I also kept his lightsaber on hand as my only source of defense, for I don't know yet how to just call the Force on at any given time.
Then I kissed his cheek and looked at him one last time before leaving, double checking to make sure the door was locked after I exited. Then I marched off down the hallway towards the elevator, taking long determined strides. Tonight was a test of my wits and abilities, to see if I truly belonged as Kylo's apprentice. At least I kept my mindset like that to make myself ready for any sort of action.
Bring it on.
Hux POV
I turned off the holopad once I realized the connection couldn't be corrected. No use in wasting my time, night will be falling soon. A strong gust of wind blew along with a flurry of snow and I hurried back up the ramp into the Finalizer. The temperature wasn't much better, but nature couldn't affect us in here.
An officer met me at the top. "Sir, I have a weather update."
I kept walking, making him have to keep up with my pace. "Proceed."
"A harsh blizzard is over us and probably won't let up until tomorrow."
"Of course it won't," I chimed sarcastically. I then became serious. "Do we have a complete assessment of the damage to this Star Destroyer yet?"
"Yes sir. A few windows cracked but the rest of the ship held out well on the entrance through the atmosphere. All minor, easy fixes."
Something positive for a change. "Excellent. When can I expect this to be repaired?"
"As soon as the blizzard let's up, I will assign men to the job," the officer replied.
I nodded in approval. "I will leave it to you."
He bowed in respect. "Thank you, General Hux."
He fell behind but I continued on towards the cafeteria, desperate for another glass of coffee to warm me up. Plus an extra dose of energy won't hurt. I surely won't be going to bed anytime soon...
Poe Dameron POV
I was using the infirmary's hallway as a shortcut back to my dorm, as I usually do when I don't feel like walking what felt like another mile around it, when I spotted the boy from Jakku pacing back and forth outside of the intensive care ward. I slowed my steps, feeling bad to just leave him in that state. "Hey, um, you alright?"
The boy stopped, concern clearly in his bloodshot eyes. "Just...worried."
I awkwardly stuck my hands in my pockets, wanting to help but trying to figure out how. "So...you two are Jedi?"
He was reluctant at first then nodded. "I'm still a Padawan. Alyenn is my master."
"Alyenn? Is that the man with you?"
"Yes. Alyenn Culiri is his full name. He is a wonderful Jedi Master and friend to me."
Seeing he was warming up to me, I said, "I never did catch your name before." I stuck out my hand for him to shake. "I'm Poe Dameron. Best pilot the Resistance has, without really bragging."
He laughed and politely bowed his head. "Trace Apatha. Jedi don't shake hands."
I pulled my arm back and crossed both in front of my chest, feeling like an idiot. "Of course they don't. Must have slipped my mind." I tried to let the moment pass by changing the topic. "So...Alyenn is getting surgery?" Oh smooth Poe, really smooth.
Trace nodded. "A prosthetic so he will be able to walk again. But with how severe the injury is, the doctors were worried about internal bleeding." He sat down on a bench against the wall meant for waiting family members or friends. "I always looked to him for strength...now it's the other way around. I could have done more to protect him. This is all my fault he is in this state."
"Don't say that," I said, sitting down next to him. "Look, I've encountered Kylo Ren before. I've been captured, beaten for information, then tortured with his telepathic abilities. He is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I don't want you to blame yourself for an incident that really couldn't have been prevented, but it could have been worse. Alyenn, well, he could have been killed. But because you were there, you saved him."
"There was a girl with Ren," Trace added, speaking like he just recalled something important. "An apprentice of some sort, though she didn't have a hold on the Dark Side like him. She shot at my master, distracting him long enough for Ren to strike."
I raised an eyebrow, not knowing enough about the Jedi and Sith to follow him correctly in the conversation. "Why would he need an apprentice? Isn't that like some kind of assistant?"
He laughed and I felt my face heat up from embarrassment. "No Poe. She is Force-Sensitive, so he is teaching her how to become a Dark Knight like him."
My breath caught in my throat. "Wait...you mean Kylo is trying to make more of him?"
"Funny part was she ended up convincing Ren to spare our lives," he continued, not hearing me. "I suppose I owe her in a way, because I was about to get the life choked out of me if she didn't step in."
I was still back on the other topic. "Just so I heard you right...there is going to be another person like him to worry about?!"
"Well, I wouldn't call her a threat yet, but she is training beneath him so soon enough probably. That is, unless she sees that being a Jedi is the better way to go."
I only heard half of what he was saying, foreseeing the problems that are yet to come to the Resistance. My voice was shaking from nerves. "I need to warn Leia."

Chapter 8 is here (and this time it is supposed to be, sorry again for any confusion). Hope everyone enjoys! I think it's my longest chapter yet with over 11.6k words! :D
And BTW, have any of you ever heard of a site called Wookieepedia? It's like Wiki, but everything is Star Wars. I go there all the time for information, very good site. I recommend it to anyone who wants to brush up on their knowledge or discover new things!
As always I love to hear from my followers! Comment your opinions towards the chapter, I always want to get better. And I enjoy seeing you point out your favorite parts. :)
Pic of the chapter: Kylo Ren lurking in the foggy forest of Takodana. Pretty creepy actually. This is actually a behind the scenes pic from The Force Awakens. I couldn't find a pic to match the chapter so this will have to do lol
