Chapter 3: Losing Zane

Zara's POV

The next day, Max and I were in my yard practicing my abilities.

"Okay, so what can you do?" Max asked me.

"I can sense when someone's in emotional pain," I start. "Or in immediate danger."

"And your new ability?"

"I can make people do things against their will."

She smiles. "Okay, lets start there. Make me do something."

I close my eyes. 

"Pull your tail."

she shakes her head. "Harder."

"I'm trying!"

"Try harder."

Anger boiled up inside me.

"Max, Pull your tail until it hurts."

Her eyes went blank. she hesitated for a minute.

"Now." I commanded.

She pulled her tail and gasped. The her eyes changed back to their normal yellow color.

"That hurt," she said.

"It was supposed to," I reply.

"So your emotions make you stronger," she said. "For me, my bracelet makes my talents stronger."

I smile. "I think I'm going to like you."

She laughs. "Same girl, same."

Two weeks later

"Max is amazing!" I tell Asteria. her and I are hanging out with Garroth, Vylad, Aphmau, Max, and Kawaii~Chan.

"Kawaii~Chan thinks Max~Sama makes great cookies!" Kawaii~Chan tells us.

"Yeah, she-"

I stop. My eyes turn green. I see a flash.

Zane...men with guns...

I jump up. my brothers follow.

"Who is it Zara?" Garroth asks.

"Zane," I say.

I run out the door and over to Zane's house, grabbing a gun on the way out. A man is pushing Zane out the door.

I gasp when I see Zane. His hands are tied behind his back, and there's duct tape over his mouth. He looked like he put up a fight trying to get away. He looked....defeated.

I ran faster.

One of the other men saw me.

"Hey you!" he shouted.

The man holding Zane looked over his shoulder after Zane was in his van.

"Take care of them. I'll handle the Ro'maeve boy." he shouted.

I pointed my gun at the first man. Then I recognized him.

"Gene!?" I shout.

He looks at me with green eyes.

green.

"Aph, Vylad, grab him!" I say without taking my eyes off him.

They tackle Gene as the van drives away.

"You'll never win," Gene says. "Brother will always win."

I point the gun at him. "Shut up Gene. You kidnapped my brother, so I won't hesitate to shoot."
