Chapter 4

13:56, 31 May 2021

Sage watched from afar as the police escorted a handcuffed Derek Hale into the back of a police car, Sage had gathered that the boys had dug up the body she smelt the other day and pinned the murder on Hale.

She knew it wasn't him though, the strongest scent came off the body and it no way linked back to Derek, but Stiles was the detective, she knew he could figure it out on his own.

She was about to head home until she heard the Stlinksi boy make his way to the same police car that was keeping hold of Derek. She frowned at the thought of the human so close to the werewolf.

"Okay, just so you know, I'm not afraid of you." not a second later Stiles carried on, "Okay, maybe I am. Doesn't matter. I just wanna know something. The girl you killed... she was a werewolf. She was a different kind, wasn't she? I mean, she could turn herself into an actual wolf, and I know Scott can't do that. Is that why you killed her?"

Derek inhaled before replying, "Why are you so worried about me when it's your friend who's the problem? When he shifts on the field, what do you think they're gonna do? Huh? Just keep cheering him on? I can't stop him from playing, but you can. And that girl that basically threatened my life the other day. And trust me... you want to." Derek finished off saying, sensing Sage somewhere deep in the woods.

Stiles furrowed his eyebrows, "W-what you mean Sage?" But before Derek could respond Sheriff Stilinski opened the door, grabbed Stiles by the arm, and pulled him out of the car.

"There, stand," Noah said while letting his son go as he gave him a stern expression, "What the hell do you think you're doing?" Stilinski questioned, "Just trying to help." Stiles answered and his father nodded. "How about you help me understand exactly how you came across this?" He asked and Stiles shrugged.

"We were looking for Scott's inhaler," Stiles said, not thinking before he spoke. Sage laughed a little when she realised the human had no idea what he was admitting to his father, she looked over at Scott and noticed the werewolf wince after hearing his best friends lie unravel.

"Which he dropped when?"

"The other night."

"The other night when you came out to look for the first half of the body?"

"Yes."

"The night when you told me you were out alone and Scott was home?"

"Yes." Stiles said then realised what he just admitted, "No. Crap." He muttered and his father nodded slightly.

"So you lied to me?" He asked and Stiles pursed his lips,

"That depends on how you define lying," Stiles said and Stilinski raised his eyebrows at the boy,

"I define it as not telling the truth. How do you define it?" He asked.

Stiles paused for a second before answering his father, "Reclining your body in a horizontal position?" Stiles said slowly, using hand gestures-making his father sigh but making the blonde giggle. Scott heard the sound and turned around to see said blonde watching father and son bicker.

He frowned a little, he had no idea whether he could trust her or not. The werewolf was brought out of his thoughts by his best friend dragging him off to his jeep.

He turned around again but the blonde was already gone.

*~*

"He'll be fine," Stiles screamed out from the voice that came from behind him, "D-don't scare a guy like that Sage, it's not cool." The human said, holding his chest as he watched the blonde smile at him.

"I didn't mean to, but you looked lost."

"H-how did you even know we were out here?" The Stilinski boy asked in confusion, he had no idea how the girl knew they were out in the woods, he had a haunch that she followed them but he didn't want to assume.

"I followed you."

He was right to assume.

"Erm, why?" The boy asked as he picked up the books that had fallen out of his bag.

"Trouble seems to follow you everywhere and I need to make sure that you stay safe," Sage replied handing him his bag, he smiled gratefully at the girl.

Stiles had noticed that this was the second time the girl has cared about his safety, the first being when she rushed into the boy's locker room to stop Scott from almost killing him and the second being now.

"I-uh, do you want a ride home?" Stiles couldn't help but scold himself for how nervous he was around the girl, he had managed to blush and stutter around the girl more than he did in his entire life. The only good that seemed to come from it was that it made the girl smile.

"Sure, and on the ride home you can ask me what your dying to ask."

"Wh-what, I'm not dying to ask anything. Pfft, no- not me." Sage smiled at the nervous boy while giving him a pointed look.

"O-okay, yeah maybe I do have some questions." He said.

"Drive me home and I'll tell you anything you want," Sage told the boy, her accent coming out a little strong, the human boy nodded quickly, trying to hide the blush that painted his cheeks.

It had been all of five minutes and Stiles couldn't help but glance at the blonde a couple of times. He knew as soon as she told him what she was it would bring more drama to his life- but there was a part of him that didn't care. From the short time that he has known her, he couldn't help but want to know more about her. It didn't matter if she was some dangerous monster like a Malevolent, he wanted to know her.

"So- uh. What exactly are you?" Sage chuckled a little, she was wondering when he would have the courage to ask her, they had pulled up outside her house. She knew that Stiles was smart- he would figure it out eventually and she wanted to be the one to tell him, but she didn't want him to look at her as a monster.

He didn't owe her anything, she knew that. He had only known her for a week, she knew though that he could feel the connection that they shared, so she hoped that he wouldn't treat her any different.

"You got it narrowed down." Stiles looked at her with furrowed eyebrows, "The other night, you researched supernatural creatures with purple eyes, the three creatures you listed I am one of them." Sage told the boy who looked at her in shock, the only question he had for her-

"H-how did you know that?" Sage gave a small smile to the boy, she knew how creepy it would sound, "I stood outside your house listening to you that night." Stiles's eyes widen at the girl, he didn't know whether to feel creeped out or flattered, he decided to go for the latter because who wouldn't feel flattered that a beautiful girl was keeping an eye on them?

"Erm, okay- we'll come back to that. I know that your not a Malevolent." Sage face scrunched up in disgust, "I wouldn't put it past that you're a siren, I mean you're so beautiful and you've already got most of the guys in our school chasing after you." Stiles spat out the last sentence in jealousy

The blonde smiled at the boy, she knew she was beautiful, people told her all the time- but the fact that Stiles sounded jealous made her heart warm.

"And the last one... a uh-"

"A vampire?" Stiles nodded his head as he watched the girl, he hadn't looked more into vampires seeing as he just didn't have the time but from what he knew from movies and books, they couldn't be out in the sun and the fact that they drink blood to survive.

"So, uh-again, what are you?"

"What do you think I am?" Sage raised her eyebrow as she threw the question back at the boy, she could sense Stiles's nerves as he looked over at her, she knew he wasn't scared and she was glad for the fact- but if he wasn't scared- then why was he nervous?

"I-uh, I'm not sure."

Sage frowned at the sound of the boy's elevated heartbeat, "You just lied to me Stilinski." Stiles tensed from her sudden use of his last name, he mentally scolded himself for not thinking that she would be able to tell if he was lying or not.

"Why are you so nervous, I'm not gonna hurt you Stiles."

"I uh, just don't want to insult you if I get it wrong."

"You won't, if you get it wrong I'll just correct you."

"And if I get it right?"

There was a pregnant pause before the blonde spoke again, "Then I'll tell you everything you need to know about my kind."

Stiles was gonna say it, he was just gonna come out and say the word- but before he could, the sound of Sage's ringtone blared through the jeep. The boy audibly groaned as the girl giggled before answering her phone.

"Yes, Miss Martin."

"Yes I will be at the game tonight, - no Lydia I do not want you to set me up with any lacrosse players s'il te plaît." Stiles's almost chocked on his spit when he heard the girl speaking French, he knew that was her native tongue, her accent wasn't strong but it did come out when she said some words so it shouldn't have been a shock to him that the girl could speak French.

"I will see you later Stilinski." Sage said, snapping Stiles out of his thoughts, "W-what?"

Sage smiled at the flustered human, "I gotta go to Lydia's before this lacrosse game."

"B-but, I didn't-"

"I know, but you have time, I'm not going anywhere. See you later Stilinski."

And with that, she was gone.

*~*

It was now game time, Stiles sat next to his best friend trying to give him words of comfort- keyword, trying.

"Just try not to worry too much while you're out there, okay? Or get too angry," he said after sighing.

"I got it," Scott replied.

"Or stressed."

"I got it," Scott answered.

"Don't think about Allison being in the stands. Or that her father's trying to kill you." Stiles' voice got increasingly panicked. "Or the fact that Sage threatened to kill you, or that Derek's trying to kill you. Or the girl he killed. Or that you might kill someone. If a hunter doesn't kill you fir-. I'm sorry. I'll stop. Good luck."

Sage had sighed when the strawberry blonde had dragged her along to talk to Scott, the blonde sent a small smile to the human boy who in return tried to hide the blush as he smiled back at her awkwardly.

"Scott. I just want you to remember for tonight."

Scott raised his eyebrow at the girl before answering,  "Uh...winning isn't everything?"

She chuckled and released him, wiping off his jersey. "Nobody likes a loser." She patted his chest then walked up the stands, dragging the blonde along with her.

Sage quickly threw a smile at Stiles over her shoulder but also threw a slight glare at the werewolf.

"It's one thing being threatened by Derek Hale- a werewolf, and Lydia Martin- mean popular girl. But the fact that I'm being threatened by the new girl Sage Guerrière- the unknown creature who is stronger than me is completely terrifying." The shaggy-haired boy said as he looked towards the field, feeling nothing but anxiety and uneasiness, while Stiles couldn't help but smile as he looked into the stands watching the blonde.

Sage frowned as she looked back out on the field, she was searching for number 24 but couldn't see him on the field- he was sat on the bench. She looked over to her right to notice Allison with an older looking man, who she assumed was her father.

"Hello, sir," Sage said to the man as she held out her hand for him, the Argent man looked at the girl in a little shock after hearing her accent.

"Chris Argent, nice to meet you." The man said as he shook the blonde's hand, Sage smiled sweetly at the hunter.

"Sage Guerrière."

The man couldn't hide his shock after hearing her name. "French-born?" The man asked the girl as he analysed her- he knew of her name, her family name. He knew how much honour it held in France, he was curious to know if she knew about her family history. If she did, she could be a big help.

The game had started and Jackson had made the first goal after not getting the ball passed over to Scott who was clearly open and the crowd cheered. Sage watched as Lydia made Allison help her hold up a poster, the blue-eyed blonde held back a wince knowing how hurt and angry the shaggy-haired werewolf would be. She knew if he couldn't get his emotions under control he could shift and kill someone.

Sage knew that she would make sure to get both Lydia and Stiles out of there if something like that was to happen, she would protect the two humans she had connected with, with her life. Her eyes flickered over to Scott who was breathing heavily-

"Get your emotions under control McCall." She whispered out to him, his head tilted to the side, indicating that he had heard her but she could still feel the anger come off him in waves.

Sage watched carefully as the team huddled together all except Scott.

"Who's the captain, you or me?" Sage's ears twitched as she heard Jackson seethe.

"Jackson, come on, dude. I just want to win," Danny replied.

"We will win."

"But-."

"What did I say? Huh? What... did... I say?" Jackson enunciated.

Danny sighed in annoyance. "Don't pass to McCall." Jackson hit his chest and the group split, leaving Scott standing on the other side watching them. Again, Sage could feel the anger coming off him, she sighed hoping this never ended in a blood bath.

The game continued and the score was now 3 to 5 with Beacon Hills losing at the moment.

Chris leaned closer to his daughter, "Which one is Scott again?" His eyes flickering around to the lacrosse players.

Lydia was the first one to reply with some annoyance evident in her tone as she spoke about the boy. "Number 11. Otherwise known as the only one who hasn't caught a single ball this entire game."

"I hope he's okay," Allison murmured, looking worried about the boy she clearly was smitten for.

"I hope we're okay. We need to win this." The strawberry blonde muttered and stood up as she held up a sign, looking at her new friend. "Allison. A little help here?"

Sage could sense the uneasiness coming off the brunette as she reluctantly helped the strawberry blonde hold up a sign saying;

Jackson is #1

Sages' ocean blue eyes narrowed as she noticed the flash of yellow that passed through Scott's eyes as he looked over in their direction. "Fuck." She whispered quietly to herself, she really hoped she wouldn't have to rip the teen wolfs heart out if he didn't get his emotions in check.

As the ball was tossed up by a player, Scott leapt for it, he hit the ground running for the goal. Every person who tried to block him was dodged smoothly, Sage watched at the edge of her seat and soon Scott had thrown the ball and it flew into the net.

Everyone cheered as Beacon Hills was now up by one point.

Coach went down the side of the field shouting, "Pass to McCall!" Sage giggled as she watched a hyperactive Stiles follow right behind him, repeating every word and bouncing wildly.

Scott scored a goal for them and then another one, putting them in a tie. But, the second goal was pretty much handed to them after Scott got the other player to hand over the ball. She knew why the opposing team just gave up the ball, what was a little surprising to her was how fast and hard Scott had thrown the ball into the goalies net- it burned a hole right through it.

Scott caught the ball again and ran. At first, the players ran toward him, then they stopped and backed up. Scott stopped, too, his back facing the audience. He looked at the two guys stupid enough to stand between him and the goal and growled. Sage sat up straighter when she noticed that Scott was beginning to shift and losing sight of his humanity. She could hear the small growls escaping under his breath.

She was about to start getting ready to hightail Lydia and Stiles out of there but the sound of Allison's voice stopped her, "You can do it, Scott." She heard the future hunter whisper under her breath.

Just as the opposing team ran towards the boy he had turned his body and shot the ball right into the net causing Beacon Hills to win.

She clapped along with the rest of the crowd who were cheering that Beacon Hills won the game, "Interesting." She said to herself knowing exactly how Allison brought him back from shifting.

It was interesting indeed.
