Jai's POV
I dropped the phone beside me with a frustrated huff. I felt regret linger inside me for snapping at Ashley, but I was stressed. Not long before Ash had called, Maria had called me which caused tension. She had told me that Adam, one of our boys, had stirred trouble with Matteo, the son of a big dealer in Rome, at a drifting track last night. They knew people, much more than we did. Matteo's family held influence, and though they weren't as popular as us, they were at the top before Ashley, and I joined the business. We ruined their reputation and maintained a cautious distance, aware of their power and sly acts. Fear didn't consume us, but the decision to avoid unnecessary conflicts was a matter of our and our business's safety.
Hearing that Adam had done this made me angry and I couldn't contain my frustration from snapping at Ash. I had no idea what to do or how to handle the situation. I hoped nothing would happen. I didn't want to ruin Ashley's happy mood. She generally looked happy and not stressed because of work. I didn't want to bear her with the bad news, but I knew as soon as she walked through that door she we demand answers.
I was caught up in my thoughts when I heard the front door slam. I broke my stare from the Tv and turned around to Ash and faced her in silence. It was quiet as she placed her bag on the bench. I watched as she walked closer to me then sat on the couch. I tried to appear composed and gave her a soft smile before returning my attention back to the TV. I focused on the Tv before I heard her scoff then shuffle in her seat.
"What" I said lightly as I turned to her.
"What do you mean what?" she said with a hint of attitude. "So, you're not going to tell me why you're shitty" she continued. I remained silent for moment.
"Sorry I guess I'm just really tired" I smiled lightly before turning back to the Tv, attempting to evade her glare.
"Really. That's all. You snapped because your tried" she said annoyed. "Your lying" she added, irritated.
"I think I'm jet lagged Ash" I said making something up.
"You slept the whole plane ride" she said with a scoff.
"I guess it's hard to adjust to the different time zones" I replied lightly.
"Whatever Jai" she spoke as she got up from the couch.
...
Ashely's POV
I slowly rose from the bed, I stretched and glanced to my side at Jai, fast asleep. I rolled my eyes before folding the covers back and getting out of bed quietly. I walked past the window realising it was still night. I hadn't eaten dinner as soon as I left the couch I had fallen asleep. I walked closer to the kitchen glimpsing at the clock on the wall, it was almost one in the morning.
I walked with a slump and reached for a glass in the cabinet. I grabbed one and walked to the sink filling the glass to the very top. I raised the cup to my lips and began to drink it gazing out the large window, the city lights illuminating the night sky. I was angry. Jai was clearly keeping something and if it involved our business, I'd be furious if he didn't tell me. I needed to know what had happened. I smiled lightly to myself before placing the cup in the sink and walking back to bed. I got back in bed and got under the covers. I closed my eyes, slowly drifting off with unresolved thoughts.
...
I slowly fluttered my eyes opened and tried to adjust to the bright light streaming through the window. I smiled lightly before stretching and stepping out of bed, grabbing my phone to check the time. I needed to be there by 11 so I needed to get up and get ready now. I paced into the bathroom and immediately got started on my hair and makeup. I soon finished and left the bathroom yawning while walking into the closet.
Glancing at my phone once more, I noticed a text from Aubrey with the address. I started to search through my suitcase for something to wear. I then pulled out a long sleeve which was white and a pair of jeans. It was simple and easy. I started to undress and pulled my outfit I had picked out on. I walked out of the closet and back into the bathroom and pulled my hair up into a ponytail before twisting it into a plat. I rummaged through my makeup bag before pulling out my earrings. I put my earrings in surprised they hadn't closed up. I took a step back and examined myself in the mirror. I smiled lightly before turning around and walking out of the bathroom. I looked at the clock on the wall before my eyes widened, realizing time was slipping away.
"Fuck" I whispered to myself.
I realized I was going to be late, so I quickly grabbed my phone, swung my bag on my shoulder and rushed out of the door, forgetting to say goodbye to Jai. I was now down the street, I searched for a taxi, but none were in sight. I sighed and pulled out my phone to message Aubrey when I looked up and squinted at something before me.
"Ashley" the man repeated. I furrowed my eyebrows before taking a few steps closer.
"Kirk?" I asked confused.
"Yes. What are you doing?" he said confused.
"I'm trying to find a taxi" I said still blinded by the light. I placed my hand above my head blocking the sun from my eyes.
"Get in. I'll take you" he said softly.
"Really?" I said with a smile.
"Yeah if you get in already" he said with a huff.
"Thank you" I squealed before getting into the passenger's seat.
I got into the car and placed my bag in my lap before quickly putting my seatbelt on. I turned to Kirk with a big smile.
"You're a life saver" I smiled as I turned to look out the window.
"No worries Ash" I looked back at him slowly with a weird smile. "So where are you going exactly" he continued.
"My sisters" I replied before giving him the address.
"Okay that's not too far" he said as his voice slightly trembling.
I raised my eyebrow at him before turned back to gaze out of the window at the buildings speeding past. Kirk then took a sharp right turn I took a deep breath before turning to him while giggling. The sensation of reckless driving was something that I had missed.
"So, are you excited for the wedding?" Kirk broke the silence.
"Of course, but I still haven't met her fiancé" I replied slowly turning to him.
"What your sisters name?" he asked intently.
"I don't think you'll know her. She usually keeps to herself" I spoke softly.
"Oh" he said low.
"Aubrey" I spoke.
"Aubrey?" he said low.
"Yeah what do you know her?" I asked confused.
"Na- no. Uhm ah my- my mums names Aubrey" he said with a smile.
"Okay" I said dragging out the kay, weirded out by his stutter.
I turned away from him and continued to stare out of the window before we took a left out of the city. We were a little bit past the city and driving down a small road companioned by large trees and property's either side. It was gorgeous, like a separate city. We soon began to drive slowly and then soon came to halt.
"Here you are" he smiled.
"Thank you" I said lightly before shutting the door.
"Give me a call if you need a ride back. There's now way you could get a taxi out here" he said while rolling down the window.
"We're like 2 minutes from the city Kirk but if not ill call" I spoke softly.
"Goodbye have fun" he said before starting to drive forward.
"Bye. Thank you again" I shouted.
I sighed with relief before turning around and smiling. The house was massive and was surrounded by tall gates. I started to walk closer before I heard footsteps in the distance.
"Ashley" she squealed.
"Hey Bree" I smiled before she put a passcode in and opened the gate.
"Fancy" I laughed while walking through.
"You excited for today?" she asked as I followed her inside.
"Course" I smiled as we walked through the front door. "Wow" I added with wide eyes as Bree giggled.
"We have to be there by 11:30 so we will leave in like 10 minutes" she spoke as she walked closer to fridge pulling out bottles of water.
I spun around taking it all in with my mouth wide open. "He must be rich" I said in amazement. She only laughed before handing me the water bottle.
"Here" she said softly still giggling.
"What does he do for work?" I spoke in complete shock.
"Uhm I don't know something to do with real estate" she replied.
"Woah" I laughed.
I sat down at the kitchen bench, and gazed at the beautiful marble surface, sipping the water she had given me while admiring the view of the pool and the city beyond.
Footsteps broke my gaze, and I looked behind me as a man dressed in all black walked down the stairs with a smile. He looked at me and I gave him a light smile back. I then turned back to Bree and raised my eyebrows up and down while giving her a cheeky grin before bursting into giggles. She glanced behind me at the man before looking back at me giving me a weird look followed by a wide smile. The sparkle in her eyes made me happy. Though I didn't know anything about him he looked sweet.
"We have to get going now" she said picking up her bag.
"Okay" I said following her through the house.
We got outside and she unlocked her car which was parked around the back. My mouth literally fell when I saw the car. It was my dream car.
"A skyline r34?" I squealed in excitement.
"Yes" she said underwhelmed.
"No way" I said walking up to the car. "This is my dream" I added.
"Okay get in now. You can look after" she spoke opening the door.
"Yep" I said walking to the passenger's side while tracing my finger across the car.
It was the deep gray colour I had always wanted. I stepped into the car and gazed in awe at the interior. We left speeding into the street and before I knew it we were in the city. We parked across the road from a small cake shop. I smiled at her before getting out of the car and following beside her as we walked into the shop.
We then introduced ourselves to the baker then we sat by the entrance at a small table, eager to try some cake. We began to talk and soon enough someone brought out a tray of small bites of cake out to us. The lady placed out the plates Infront of us.
"Thank you" Bree spoke.
"Enjoy" she smiled. The lady walked away, and I turned back to Bree.
"Which one first?" I questioned her with a giggle.
"This one" she said as she picked the pink one up. I also picked up mine and we both took a bite.
"Mhmm" Bree said rolling her eyes back.
"This is going to be hard" I laughed.
"I know" Bree agreed with a laugh.
We picked up another piece which was orange but before I ate it before I dropped it onto my white shirt.
"Shit" I laughed grabbing a napkin.
"Oh no" Bree said hysterical. "We'll drive back past mine and we can get you another shirt" she continued.
"It's fine don't worry" I giggled while she still laughed. "It's not that funny" I added.
"It was just your reaction" she replied. I rolled my eyes while smiling before I noticed she was staring at something.
"What? What is it?" I said confused looking down at my shirt. Now noticing what she was staring at. "Oh- uh" I said before fixing my top, trying to hide the scar.
"Ash what happe-" she started.
"Nothing Bree. It's nothing" I said looking away.
"No Ashley what hap-" she spoke.
"I don't want to talk about" I cut her off before looking back at her.
...
We continued to try find the perfect cake for the wedding. It was unbelievably hard, but Bree had finally chosen a design and a flavour. Aubrey had picked a 2-tier vanilla cake with pink frosting on this inside and white fondant on the outside parried with flowers that would be placed around the cake. After she had explained the design the bakers immediately started to work on it due to the wedding being tomorrow.
We walked out of the shop with our stomachs full and big smiles on out faces. We were soon in the car and flying down the street. I held my stomach in pain as I laughed.
"I think I'm going to be sick" I laughed leaning my head on the car.
"Same" she giggled.
It was mostly quiet the whole drive and we were getting closer and closer to my hotel. We mainly joked around, and she couldn't stop talking about how excited she was which was cute. I was proud of her, she had found someone she was clearly head over heels over for. The car soon came to halt, and I turned to Bree.
"Thank you for today" I smiled while opening the door.
"Of course, I'm just happy you're here. I've missed you so much" she said softly.
"Get a good night's rest for you big day tomorrow" I laughed steping out the car.
"Will do" she smiled.
"Bye" I spoke.
She smiled and waved as she drove off. I turned around and smiled making my way into the hotel. I got into the elevator and pressed the button. I was soon on our floor, and I walked out getting closer to our hotel room. I swung the door open and placed my bag on the counter.
"Jai, I'm home" I yelled. "Listen I'm sorry about yesterday I was just confused. Jai? Where are you?" I continued in confusion as I walked into the bedroom.
I walked into the bedroom to see Jai packing his suitcase. I stood there in complete shock for moment before walking up behind him.
"Jai?" I spoke confused. "Jai!" frustration seeping through as I yelled.
"Ashley I ne-" he began softly.
"What are you doing?" I said in anger.
"Please listen. I'll be back hopefully by tomorrow" Jai said low.
"Why Jai?" I yelled in fury.
"I don't need you stressing" he said with a hint of rage in his voice.
"What the fuck is it about Jai?" I raised my voice stepping closer.
"Ashley please don't worry" he said turning away from me.
"No what the fuck his happening that you need to so urgently need to leave?" I screamed before shoving him the back.
"Something happened back at home with business" Jai yelled turning around. "Now just stop worrying" he added.
"What happened!" I yelled back.
"Don't worry" he said slow like I was a child.
"Are you kidding?' I laughed in anger. "You tell me right now Jai" I said speaking down to him.
"You don't need to know. I'm dealing with it" he said clenching his jaw.
"Are you serious? Your nothing without me Jai. We grew together you're not dealing with this alone" I said lowering my voice. Jai didn't reply and just stayed quiet and turned away from me. "You don't hold power Jai. I'm the one who dose. I'm sorry but that's how it is. You really think you're going to stop whatever's going on? You need my help just admit it. Jai literally just tell me because you're just going to make everything more fucked" I screamed while pushing into his back.
"Fuck off" he yelled while turning around giving me a cold stare before slapping me in the face.
"Seriously" I laughed holding my face. "Slap a bit harder next time pussy" I continued.
"Fuck up" he said shutting his suitcase. Jai then put his suitcase on the floor and began to walk away.
"Don't worry about coming back Jai. I'm done with this" I screamed at him as he shut the door.
