With Ginny, where we left off.
Ginny ran through duos of people dueling, still tentatively dodging spells that wouldn't touch her.
She had her eye on the field behind the castle towards Hagrid's hut. It's where Bellatrix had been headed earlier- which means Greyback as well, and hopefully Draco.
She cursed under her breath as a deatheater came into view. A wicked grin on his face, he backed two terrified-looking first years into a corner.
Glancing around in panic, she noticed the light fixture dangling above him, calling her name. "Diminuendo."
The stone holding the chandelier in place gave way and crashed down upon him. His body went limp and he crumbled to the floor.
As Ginny ran over to the trembling children she felt a smirk creep up on her face, but clenched her jaw and shook it off. The circumstances were awful and all she could think about was how she loved the feeling of adrenaline that was pulsing through her veins.
"Are you alright?" She said, patting down both the children and looked for injuries. They looked up at her as if she were Merlin himself. "That was amazing!" One exclaimed, wonderstruck, her fear completely forgotten.
Ginny smiled softly at her. "It's dangerous out here. Go inside, now." They both nodded nervously and scurried off.
-
She entered the courtyard and found Ron and Hermione already there, fighting side by side. This seemed to be the largest concentration of deatheaters- Luna, Neville, and a multitude of other students that Ginny also recognized were here, tossing spells back and forth.
She tried to pay attention to her footing as she scanned the crowd for Draco. Her heart skipped a beat when she spotted Bellatrix, but the blonde boy seemed to be nowhere near.
Cackling, the dark haired witch held out her wand and mumured a charm, causing Hagrid's Hut to burst into flames.
Nobody was in the house, but Ginny couldn't help the breathy "oh." that left her lips. Hagrid's home, his safe place, he made memories in that house.
Ginny's disappointment quickly turned to anger as Bellatrix ran off.
Ginny met Hagrid in front of the house ablaze in crimson flames. He fumbled for his umbrella. "Aguamenti." Ginny tried.
Tenderly she gestured for Hagrid to do the same. Through sniffs and hiccups he managed the spell, and the hut, though blackened, was no longer on fire.
Only moments before, Bellatrix had pranced off to the forbidden forest. She couldn't have gone far. Glancing over Hagrid's sullen expression only incited more anger in Ginny. She stared longingly into the trees. She couldn't have gone far.
"Ginny." Hagrid chastised firmly, looking down at her. Ginny shook her head assuringly. "Come on, you've got to get to the hospital wing."
"Holy mother of-" Hagrid's face went blank and his eyes widened suddenly. Ginny whipped around and was met with Harry and Professor Snape in a fast-paced duel, and a heated screaming match.
Hagrid placed a protective hand on Ginny's shoulder as they both backed up. Ginny couldn't make out a word of what either were saying- only the rasp in Harry's voice and the tone she unfortunately recognized so well. Pain.
Ginny watched in awe for what seemed like an eternity. A blur of tossing spells back and forth, none of which Ginny recognized.
It was an unfair battle though. Snape, who was more experienced, had high ground and was on the offensive. Harry obviously wasn't thinking straight so Ginny watched in what seemed like slow motion, the prolonged inevitable.
A strangled cry left Hagrid's throat but Ginny was already running. Snape had apparated as soon as the curse hit Harry.
Ginny killed her momentum and dropped to her knees next to Harry's listless figure.
Everything in her hurt. The burn in her lungs, scratches up and down her arms and hands, and the effort it took to set her thoughts in order.
She grabbed Harry's face as gently as she could amid her panic. He wasn't stirring. "Harry- Harry come on... Get up. Harry. Fuck." She shook him, not thinking a single thought, her only purpose was to get a response out of him.
A dry sob and a cough. Harry. Please. Her hands were shaking too much and Ginny could never have remembered to check his pulse if she'd thought as hard as she could.
Everything was closing in on her. She suddenly felt all of her clothes on her skin. It was too much. She scraped at her throat. She couldn't breathe. She wanted so desperately to rip the shirt off her back. She must've drawn blood as she scratched every inch of herself trying to get her sleeves as far away from her arms as possible.
Harry's chest went up and down. Everything paused, shaky breaths in and out. With a start, his eyes fluttered open and he sat up straight, breathing heavily.
"Oh my god." Ginny let out loudly, half sob, half attempt to scream, relief flooded her body that he was okay, but she scrambled to back as far away from him as possible.
She couldn't look at him. She was breathing hard, slowly her space to breathe got bigger. The spots in her vision that she hadn't previously realized were there, cleared up. Her clothes felt okay again.
"Hey, hey hey hey..." Harry tried as he approached her. "I'm fine, it was just a stun, I'm okay." His voice was gentle and small despite him breathing just as hard as Ginny was. "Ginny..."
He reached out to her. A million of Ginny's absent thoughts flooded her head as Harry's hand got closer. The hand was comfort, happiness, memories, everything will be okay if you just let him touch you. The hand was intense, too much feeling all at once, too much to handle right now. But most of all, Harry's hand was panic, stress, everything awful in the world all at once, the hand was enemy. Go for your wand, Ginny. Get rid of the hand. Don't let it near.
"No.. No." Ginny spat, swatting Harry's arm away.
"Ginny, I'm okay, I'm alright... just-"
Harry's voice flooded her ears. Too loud, to close. She never wanted it to leave. She wanted it gone as soon as possible.
"Stop just stop. Shut up." She bit out, backing up on the grass and putting more distance between them. Ginny saw Harry's crestfallen expression out of the corner of her eye and before he had a chance to ask any questions, Hagrid was upon them.
Patting them down with worry, searching for injuries, going on about the hospital wing. Ginny couldn't do anything but stare blankly into space as Hagrid dragged them both along.
Ginny wanted to look at Harry, but she feared it would be too much. Harry wanted Ginny to look at him, but he feared that if she did, he wouldn't deserve to look her in the eye. So they both stared, wanted everything from each other and nothing at all.
