Part 20
02:10, 14 September 2020Saturday, with Harry.
The quidditch tryouts from a few days prior had gone well. Harry was satisfied with the team he'd compiled and confident that the season wouldn't be a complete disaster. He'd spent the days after tryouts reliving that morning with Ginny over and over again in his head. It was now Saturday evening, and he was in bright spirits as he proceeded to detention, where the redhead would be waiting for him.
He entered the classroom to find around 50 students, with miserable expressions on their faces. Harry's eyes found Ginny's freckled face and he smiled lightly. She sat at the very back of the class, her long hair draped over one shoulder. She leant on her left hand and seemed to be doodling on the corner of her page.
Harry crept to the back of the room and snuck up behind her. He reached a hand out to grasp her shoulder when- "Hi Harry." She said. Harry sighed and rolled his eyes. She turned around, smiling sweetly. "Hi Ginny." He said, grinning like a madman. He sat in the empty chair next to her.
"Enjoying yourself?" He joked. Ginny hummed in response. He pulled out a potions essay and his textbook. Ginny looked over. "Hermione bloody hates that book." She nodded to the tattered volume. Harry rolled his eyes. "Hermione's wand's in a knot. She needs to get off my back." Ginny snorted. "Careful, Potter. You don't want Advanced Potions knocking your girlfriend out of top spot." Harry chuckled.
"Good thing I haven't got one of those." Ginny didn't look at him. A soft lock of red hair fell over her face and Harry resisted the urge to tuck it behind her ear. "So you and Estelle aren't that serious yet?" Harry sat straight up. "Estelle?" Ginny was determined to keep her eyes on her paper. "Yeah, Rooker." Harry smirked suspiciously at Ginny. "Estelle and I aren't together."
Ginny looked at him, confused. "What?"
"Yeah, I don't know why-"
"Potter! Weasley!" The pair looked up at McGonagall's stern expression. "Sorry, professor." They mumbled in unison, faces red. She nodded curtly and proceeded to prowl up and down rows of desks. "I was saying," Harry murmured through gritted teeth, his face still buried in his book. "That I don't know why everyone thinks she and I are together. We aren't."
"Well she went and told the entire school she was gonna ask you out, didn't she? I'm surprised you hadn't heard." Ginny was scribbling gibberish on her paper as she spoke to Harry out of the corner of her mouth. "She was sure you were gonna say yes, she had me convinced you two were in love."
"Harry's eyes were wide, still trained on his essay. "News to me. You wouldn't happen to know when the wedding is, would you? I don't wanna miss it." Ginny let out a laugh, and the pair of them snapped their heads up to the front of the class. McGonagall didn't seem to have heard. "And then there was the whole ordeal at tryouts. Everyone reckoned she asked you then, and you'd said yes."
Harry grinned, turning the page of his book. "And you had a good cry afterwards, yeah?" He joked. "Hm." She replied coolly. "You broke my heart." Harry finally looked up at her. "I'm sorry about that." He said, softly. Ginny met his eyes, and they looked at each other a moment. Harry could have stared forever, and before he could stop himself, he glanced down at her soft pink lips, and quickly back up at her eyes.
Ginny took a breath in before looking away and clearing her throat. "Well," She said, loosening her tie. "I wasn't the only one. You should've heard Romilda Vane. I was up all night listening to her sobs. You're quite the heart breaker." But Harry was oblivious to how true Ginny's words rang.

An hour later, the warm, muggy classroom was just as quiet, with the occasional soft snore, followed by the sound of a book wacking the head of a student. McGonnagall was perched on her desk, her soft tail flicking side to side. She let out a long yawn, revealing her sharp fangs. She was very tired, and had been up all through the previous night, grading papers, so she noticed not when two kids at the back of the class rose from their chairs and slipped quietly out the back door, nor did she much care.
-
"Harry." Ginny whispered. "Hm." The boy replied, sleepily. "Let's get out of here."
"What?"
"Let's ditch. Go on an adventure." Harry chuckled at the girl. "Yeah, let's do it." Harry sat up and grabbed Ginny's hand. The girl flushed red, but Harry didn't noticed as he quietly stood from his chair and crouched low, leading them both to the back of the room and out the door. By the time they left the two of them were giggling hysterically, and running up and down empty corridors, hand in hand.
They were about to turn a corner, Harry in front, when he gasped and turned around, slamming Ginny against the wall. His hands were on both her shoulders and their faces inches apart. He lifted a finger to his lips, telling her to be quiet, and then rested it lightly on her left hip. Ginny ignored the color that flooded her face at his touch, and lifted both her hands to brush hair out of his eyes and straighten his glasses. Harry couldn't suppress a smile.
He peered around the corner, then sighed and dropped his hands. "What was it?" Ginny asked. "Flitwick." Harry replied, as they resumed walking. "Alright then, what should we do? We're in detention for the next 90 minutes." teased Ginny.
"How about the lake? The lake sounds nice."
"Then the lake it is."
For the rest of the afternoon, Harry laid under the shade of a tree with both his hands underneath his head. Ginny leaned against its trunk, her messy hair thrown up into a bun and held in place with Sirius' wand. It began to get dark, but Harry and Ginny didn't care, though the two were sleepy, they could have talked forever.
"You're pretty, Ginny." Harry said. Ginny shook her head at the boy. "You're tired, Harry."
"Hm." He yawned. "I don't wanna go inside."
"Me either." Ginny agreed. She snuggled up against the trunk of the tree and shivered a bit, tucking her legs under her skirt. Harry propped himself up on his elbows and waved his wand over Ginny, eliciting a jet of warm air over the girl. She sighed gratefully and Harry just looked at her. "What?" She said. Harry reached out, and tucked a lock of red hair that had fallen out of her bun, behind her ear.
"You really are, very pretty." He whispered. Ginny shook her head. "Goodnight, Harry." Harry grinned, laying back down on the grass, and Ginny allowed her eyes to flutter shut, a smile on her face.
Later.
"Ginny." Harry whispered sharply. "C'mon, Gin." Ginny groaned. "Five more minutes." She grumbled. Harry couldn't help but oblige and looked down to fully appreciate the girl in front of him. The pair had gotten cold during the night, and now, as the sun prepared to rise, Ginny Weasley was snuggled into Harry's chest, one hand draped over his midriff and the other tangled in his hair. Harry had one arm supporting his head and the other wrapped tightly around Ginny's waist, holding her close to him. Their legs were tangled together.
The wand that was previously holding Ginny's hair together had been discarded and now her crimson hair fell loosely around her face. It took effort, but Harry pulled his eyes away from her and attempted to wake her once more. "Ginny. Come on, it's almost morning." Ginny said nothing but nuzzled her face deeper into the crook of Harry's neck.
"Don't make me do this, Gin, come on." Ginny didn't move. "Alright." Harry groaned as he pushed himself off the grass into a sitting position. Ginny moaned and tugged at the hem of Harry's shirt as a final effort, before rolling off of Harry, onto her back, and opening her eyes to glare at him.
"Well good morning, Miss Weasley. How was your sleep?" Harry grinned. Ginny groped for her wand and sat up once she got a hold of it. "I despise you."
The two made their way back to the castle as the sun rose. When they'd sleepily entered the common room, Ginny gasped softly. The room was deserted, apart from Ron and Hermione. Hermione had her head against the armrest of the couch and both her hands were entwined in Ron's red hair, who's head was on Hermione's stomach. Both his arms were wrapped tightly around her waist and his legs hung off the other end of the sofa. The two were fast asleep, alongside the dying embers of the previously burning fire.
"They must've been waiting for us." Ginny whispered, walking over to the couch and pulling a blanket over the two of them. "I'd pay good money to see both their faces when they wake up like that." Ginny let out a yawn and stretched. "Well you let me know what that looks like. I'm going back to bed." Harry picked Hermione and Ron's wands off of the floor where they'd fallen and set them quietly on the table. "Goodnight Harry."
"'Night, Gin."
