PART 43
06:00, 21 August 2024After Eros stepped out, Gu Wei's attention was drawn to Haoxuan's voice. "Wei², where are you? Your connection seems to be cutting out; we can barely hear you."
"I'm with Yibo, don’t worry, I’m fine. Please tell Lay that we might not be able to come back tonight. I'll also call A-yuan," Gu Wei replied.
"Oh... okay," Haoxuan said on the other end. "By the way, can I turn off all connections, including the GPS?" Haoxuan was startled by the request. "Huh?" Gu Wei took a deep breath and repeated himself. Haoxuan and the others had no choice but to agree.
"Alright, we trust you know what you're doing. Just turn it back on if anything happens; we'll be keeping an eye on things," he said. Gu Wei smiled faintly. "Thank you." He was about to hang up, but Haoxuan spoke again. "Lulu and Ziyi are coming back here." Gu Wei nodded, as if Haoxuan could see him. "Okay, we’ll see each other when we return," he said before turning off the device attached to him.
He then grabbed his phone and called A-yuan, who answered right away. "Little radish, don’t go back to your house. Stay with your grandparents for now. I'm with your Daddy," Gu Wei said, sensing the joy in A-yuan’s voice on the other end.
"Really?" A-yuan asked excitedly, making Gu Wei smile. "Yes, be careful there. I love you, little radish."
"Okay, you too. I'll make sure not to bother you," A-yuan replied before hanging up. Gu Wei felt a pang of sadness but understood that things weren’t easy for A-yuan. "I’ll wait until the day you call me Nana and say I love you back," Gu Wei whispered to himself.
"I love you too," A-yuan whispered softly after hanging up.
Meanwhile, Eros made a call after stepping outside. "Hello, can I ask you to conduct another DNA test?" Yibo asked the person on the other end, who immediately raised an eyebrow.
"For whom this time?" they asked impatiently.
"For Andro and A-yuan," Yibo replied, causing the person on the other end to widen their eyes in surprise. "Why did you suddenly think of that?" Yibo took a deep breath before speaking. "I received a message from an unknown number, telling me to get those two tested." The other end fell silent, making Yibo think they had hung up, so he checked his screen.
"Are you still there?" he asked, hearing a deep sigh in response. "Yeah, just bring the samples."
"Alright. By the way, I'll give you my house address, but don’t tell anyone. Just go there and take my toothbrush. You know Andro and A-yuan, right?" The person on the other end chuckled. "Send me the address. I’ll handle the rest."
"Thanks," Yibo said before hanging up, then sighed. "It took me so long to think of this. I never thought I’d live long enough to deal with this," he muttered, glancing at the door where Gu Wei was resting.
Eros also called his lawyer to ask about the divorce, but the lawyer simply said it was being taken care of, so Yibo didn't ask further and just urged them to expedite the process.
Meanwhile, while Liying was at the hospital, she received a message. "When are we meeting again?" She raised an eyebrow upon reading it. "Why would we meet again?" she replied plainly.
"Oh, just a few months ago, you were so eager to meet because your husband had no time for you. Don’t forget that I know all your secrets." Liying's entire body went cold. "I'll contact you later; I have a lot of other problems to deal with."
"Okay." She angrily deleted the message, unaware that someone was reading all their exchanges and that, even if she deleted them, they were already saved.
Liying tried calling Eros again to share the news, but she still couldn't reach him. She even called his company, hoping that Yibo and Gu Wei might have gone there, but the secretary said they hadn't returned since leaving earlier that afternoon. "Okay, maybe it’s better to announce this at the reunion so he won’t have the chance to argue when his entire family, and that Gu Wei, know," she thought with a smirk.
While Gu Wei was sleeping, Yibo prepared food for them. After cooking, he decided to go to his secret room because Gu Wei was still sound asleep, and he didn't want to wake him.
As Eros entered the room, he was greeted by photos of him and Ebisu together, with words written on the walls: "He is my husband, my first love." He touched the photos one by one. "Even though I filled this house with your pictures, I still forgot your face. I'm sorry for blaming everything on you, and I'm sorry for not being able to find you, just like I can't even find myself," he whispered, unaware of the tears falling from his eyes. But he was interrupted when he heard Gu Wei’s voice.
"Mr. Wang, Yibo, where are you?" Eros looked up, and when he no longer heard Gu Wei’s voice, he carefully exited the room and saw Gu Wei standing outside. It was getting dark, but Eros noticed someone approaching Gu Wei from inside. Before Yibo could get closer, the person started asking questions.
"Sir, do you live here?" Gu Wei was confused and didn't answer right away. "What's your relationship with Chen Yu? This is the first time we've seen you here," said another person, which confused Gu Wei even more. Before he could speak, Yibo approached them.
"Hi, Auntie, it’s you," Eros said with a smile, but deep inside, he felt uneasy, especially with the way Gu Wei was looking at him. "When did you arrive? Did you bring your doctor wife back with you?" Gu Wei's eyes widened as he looked at Eros and then back at the person who spoke, raising an eyebrow.
"Doctor Wife?" he asked, trying to hide the shakiness in his voice. "Let's go inside and eat," Eros changed the subject, but Gu Wei remained in place, waiting for their conversation partner to say more. The person looked at Yibo as if asking what they should do, wondering if they had said something wrong.
Even Eros didn’t know what to do or say. "Come on, you can ask me instead," Yibo said, grabbing Gu Wei's hand and signaling the others to leave. But Gu Wei spoke up. "You might lie if I ask you." But then Gu Wei remembered he was Gu Wei, not Xiao Zhan, so he calmed down a bit.
"Anyway, I don't care about your life," he said, pulling his hand away from Yibo and entering the house without inviting him in. The person they were speaking with looked sadly at Eros. "Sorry, we might have said something you haven’t told him yet," they apologized awkwardly. Yibo forced a smile. "It's okay. I'll head inside," he said and went in.
Before entering, Eros took a deep breath and found Gu Wei sitting and smoking. "I hope you don't mind me smoking," Gu Wei said as if nothing had happened earlier, but deep down, he was eager to ask Yibo questions. But he was Gu Wei, not Zhan.
"Can I sit next to you?" Yibo asked. Gu Wei didn’t look at him. "This is your house; you don’t need to ask for permission," he said, continuing to smoke. Yibo hesitated but sat down, and after a few minutes of silence, Yibo finally broke it.
"About earlier, do you have any questions?" Yibo asked awkwardly. This time, Gu Wei looked at him with a blank expression. "What are you hiding, Yibo?" Gu Wei thought. Before he spoke, he took a drag from his cigarette.
"I'm curious about what they said about your doctor wife. Isn't Liying a designer? And she doesn't even know about this place, right?" Eros looked into the distance, and Gu Wei couldn’t tell if he was seeing things or not, but he noticed sadness in Yibo’s eyes.
"I don't know where to begin, but she's my doctor from another country. And since I still need her here, I brought her along. To avoid suspicion, we said we were married." As Gu Wei listened, he couldn’t tell if what he was hearing was real. "Why does Yibo need a doctor from another country?" he asked himself.
Even though he didn’t understand Yibo’s explanation, Gu Wei asked another question. "Why are you using a different name?" This time, Yibo didn’t know what to say, and Gu Wei noticed. "You don’t have to answer if you’re not comfortable," Gu Wei said, standing up to head to the bathroom. But before he could enter, Yibo spoke, causing Gu Wei to stop in his tracks.
"My doctor’s name is Mianmian. You might be familiar with her since she also lives in Canada," Yibo said, suddenly turning around, and Gu Wei’s face turned pale. "Are you okay?" Yibo asked worriedly. Gu Wei forced a smile. "I don’t think I’m familiar with her name," he said before entering the bathroom.
