The weight of Prom's words hung heavy in the air, a suffocating cloud that threatened to drown Gemini in a sea of doubt and confusion. Since that pivotal conversation, he had retreated into a shell of silence, desperately trying to mend his fractured friendship with Prom while simultaneously grappling with his burgeoning feelings for Fourth. Days bled into weeks, each one an echo of the last, filled with a strange emptiness that amplified Prom's absence.
Gemini found himself avoiding Fourth's gaze, their usual banter replaced by awkward silences that felt like an invisible chasm between them. Whenever they passed each other in the hallways, their shoulders would brush, but the air crackled with unspoken tension, leaving Gemini feeling more isolated than ever. This distance was palpable, a physical manifestation of the emotional turmoil raging within him. Even their friends had noticed the shift. Ford, ever observant, raised a questioning eyebrow, while Winny, overflowing with his usual boisterous energy, tried to bridge the gap with playful remarks. But each attempt only elicited a strained smile from Gemini, a mask he wore to hide his turmoil.
Meanwhile, Fourth remained blissfully unaware of the storm brewing around him. He was still his usual bubbly self, laughter ringing through classrooms like music, his smile brightening even the dreariest of days. For Gemini, however, Fourth's joy became a painful reminder of his own inner chaos. A pang of envy twisted in his gut whenever he heard Fourth laugh-a sound he longed to elicit once more, but now felt completely out of reach.
The situation gnawed at him relentlessly, an ache in his chest that deepened with each passing day. He felt as if he were losing a part of himself, buried under the weight of Prom's expectations and his own internal conflict. It wasn't until one evening, overwhelmed by silence, that he finally confided in Winny. Sitting on the edge of his bed, he poured out his heart about the conversation with Prom-the confusion, the guilt that shadowed his every thought like a dark cloud.
Winny listened patiently, concern etching lines across his brow. When Gemini finished, Winny scoffed, disbelief coloring his voice. "Is he insane?" he exclaimed, shaking his head. "It's like he's trying to control you, Gem. And you're just letting him?"
A surge of anger flared within Gemini, but it was swiftly extinguished by a wave of sadness. Winny was right, and the truth cut deeper than he expected. Prom's behavior had become increasingly manipulative, yet Gemini remained ensnared in a web of guilt and fear, struggling to see things clearly. His desperate attempts to please Prom, to prove his loyalty, had led him down a path of confusion and self-neglect.
Their conversation drifted from Prom to Fourth, the unintentional focus causing Gemini's heart to race. Winny pointed out that even Fourth was confused by Gemini's actions. Knowing Fourth, he would likely remain in his own world until Gemini found the courage to reach out. Winny, listening intently, couldn't help but notice the way Gemini's words overflowed with admiration for Fourth. "You've been friends with Prom for years," he said, his tone turning serious. "But you've never once called him cute or complimented him. Yet you shower Fourth with praise, calling him adorable and making up nicknames for him. Don't you think that says something?"
Gemini chuckled nervously, brushing off Winny's words as if they were mere dust. "That's impossible," he muttered, his voice barely a whisper, the denial lingering on his lips like a bitter taste.
"Whatever you say, bud," Winny replied with a shrug, knowing he couldn't force Gemini to confront his feelings. He hoped to plant a seed of doubt, one that might grow into clarity.
That night, as Gemini lay in bed, the silence of his room echoed with the weight of his own denial. He tried to push thoughts of Fourth away, but they returned with a vengeance, each recollection a vivid reminder of what he truly felt. Fourth's laughter, his smile, his kind eyes filled Gemini's mind, creating a persistent echo that refused to be silenced.
"Is he insane?" Gemini thought, but quickly, another question emerged, sending a shiver down his spine. "Do I really like him?" He closed his eyes, trying to banish the swirling thoughts, but it was futile. In the darkness, he saw Fourth laughing, smiling, waving at him with a warmth that filled his heart with an unfamiliar ache.
Suddenly, he shot up from his bed, heart pounding against his ribs like a frantic drumbeat. He could no longer deny it; the truth loomed before him, terrifying yet exhilarating. He had fallen for Fourth, and the realization was both liberating and frightening. What would it mean for his friendship with Prom? What would it entail for his own future? Yet, despite the fear, the pull he felt toward Fourth was undeniable, stronger than any guilt or doubt.
As days turned into weeks, Gemini found himself caught in a constant tug-of-war between his feelings for Fourth and his loyalty to Prom. He attempted to distance himself from Fourth, trying to act as if he were a stranger, but the effort was futile. Fourth's presence became an unyielding reminder of the feelings he couldn't suppress.
One afternoon, during a break between classes, Gemini caught himself staring at Fourth, who was engrossed in scribbling in his notebook. A smile played on his lips as he worked on their project. A sigh escaped Gemini's lips, a mixture of longing and frustration. Just then, Prom entered the classroom, accompanied by Perth, and Gemini quickly shifted his attention, pretending to be engrossed in his notes. His heart raced, feeling Prom's gaze pierce through him, a frantic drumbeat echoing in his chest.
Unbeknownst to Gemini, Fourth was not as oblivious as he believed. He had noticed the subtle shifts in Gemini's behavior-the sudden distance, the awkward silences that had replaced their camaraderie. He had heard Winny's story about Gemini's conversation with Prom and understood the gravity of the situation. Fourth knew that Prom had been a protector during his high school years, shielding him from bullies, but he also recognized how Prom's influence had changed Gemini, turning him into someone he barely recognized. Satang had confided in him that Gemini was not the type to bully others until he fell under Prom's sway.
Satang reminisced about their initial friendship, a time filled with shared secrets and laughter, warmth that now felt distant. After the singing competition, where Satang had triumphed and Gemini came in second, things had shifted. Gemini became distant, even unkind, seemingly influenced by Prom's presence.
Fourth felt a deep sadness about the situation but chose to understand rather than push himself onto Gemini. He wished fervently that Gemini would realize the truth of his feelings-that they were genuine and that he posed no threat to their friendship.
One afternoon during lunch, Gemini pulled Winny aside for a serious conversation, his heart racing with the weight of his secret. Prom, nearby, overheard the request and felt a twinge of suspicion. Why did they need to leave?
In the restroom, Gemini's shoulders slumped under the weight of his secret. He sighed, voice filled with a mixture of fear and relief as he confessed, "I think I like him already..."
Winny's eyes widened in surprise, a mixture of curiosity and concern flooding his expression. "How?" he asked, leaning in closer.
"I thought I was treating him differently out of guilt for the past, but now I realize it's more than that," Gemini admitted, inhaling deeply as if trying to gather his thoughts into a coherent shape. "I miss him so much that I hear his voice when I'm alone. Even when I close my eyes, all I see is him. I don't know when this started, but I can't deny it-I like him."
Winny tapped Gemini's shoulder, offering reassurance. "If that's how you feel, I support you. What's your next plan?"
"I don't know," Gemini replied, uncertainty lacing his words like an unwelcome fog. "I want to fix things with Prom first. I don't want him to think I'm valuing our friendship any less."
Winny sighed, recognizing the complexity of Gemini's situation, the tension between loyalty and desire weighing heavily on him. They were unaware that Prom had overheard their conversation, standing just outside the restroom, his face masked in anger and betrayal. "So, this is how it goes, huh?" he thought, fists clenched at his sides, the sense of loss surging through him like a tidal wave.
Days later, as Fourth sat alone in the bustling cafeteria, waiting for Ford, Prom approached him, a friendly smile plastered across his face. Fourth was taken aback but decided to entertain the interaction, thinking perhaps Prom needed something. What came next shocked him even further.
"Can we be friends?" Prom asked, his tone unexpectedly earnest, as if he were stepping onto a tightrope.
"Huh?" Fourth replied, confusion flooding his expression. Prom chuckled, a hint of nervousness flickering in his eyes. "I know... First of all, I'm really sorry for what happened in the past. You know..."
Fourth sighed, the bewilderment in his eyes palpable. Maybe Gemini had spoken to Prom about their situation, and this was an olive branch. He decided to give Prom a chance, if only to seek closure. "Okay... I forgive you already."
"Really?!" Prom exclaimed, a grin breaking across his face like the first rays of sunlight after a storm. Just then, Winny called out from behind, disbelief coloring his voice at the sight of Prom with Fourth.
"Uh, right. I have to go now, Fourth... friend..." Prom stammered, the word hanging awkwardly in the air before he quickly left the table, leaving behind a whirlwind of confusion.
"What was that?" Satang asked, joining Winny at the table, both of them bewildered by the sudden shift in dynamics.
"I don't know," Fourth admitted, shaking his head, still trying to wrap his mind around the encounter. "He just suddenly apologized and..."
"And what?" Winny pressed, his curiosity piqued, eager for more details.
"And he asked me to be his friend," Fourth finished, uncertainty hanging in the air like a dense fog. The implications of that simple question rippled through him, intertwining with the complexities of their shared past and Gemini's silent turmoil.
