3-Run

07:19, 30 March 2017

I woke up to sunlight spilling into the room. I was alone, and slowly got up and got ready. I remembered Alby telling me that I would officially be starting to find a job in the glade. First, was with the Slicers. Just as I stepped out the room, I bumped into someone's hard chest. "Hey Ji-Ho." I heard Minho's voice say as I looked up to meet his gaze.

"Ji-Ho? Who's that?" I said confused. Only to be met with a confused looking Minho as well. "Last night you told me...forget it." he said and walked away from you. "Hurry you newbie!" he shouted, and I ran up to catch up. It took a while, since he walked so damn fast. "So slow." he said smirking as I caught up to him.

"Slim it." I said. He looked surprised, but quickly composed himself. "Already caught up on our slang huh?" he said smiling, as we both waiting for Alby and Newt who were walking towards us. I nodded my head.

"So you don't remember what happened last night?" he said a little suspicious. I sighed and rolled my eyes, "If I did, I would tell you don't you think. And who's Ji-Ho? Friend of yours that friend-zoned you?" I asked smirking as he started frowning. He couldn't make a snarky comeback for Alby and Newt had arrived.

"Mornin'." Newt said.

"No headache?" Alby asked. I shook my head. "Tough shank you are after drinking almost a whole bottle of it." he said with a slight smirk, and then instructed Newt to lead me to the Slicers. After doing so, Newt left me and went to do his own job.

"Good day for you Greenie. Today we slice chickens, and you get the honor in doing the act of slicing them." Winston, the keeper of the Slicers said with a somewhat creepy smile.

The day went on, and you could say I was Winston's new favorite glader. I don't know where my slicing skills come from, but let's say I taught him a less messy way to killing the animals. The information just poured out as I went, although I had no clue as to where it was coming for. Since, I don't remember ever killing an animal before.

"Want to become a Slicer Greenie?" Winston asked me. I chuckled, "I'll see after I've experienced all the jobs first." I said and went to wash up since it was about lunch time.

"Heard everything went well." Newt said sitting beside me as he got his lunch. "Winston won't stop talking about you." he said. I chuckled and continued eating the rest of my lunch. "By the way tomorrow you'll be working out in the garden with me." he said with his mouth full of food.

The week passed by quickly as I got to experience almost every job that the glade had to offer. Today was being a runner. "Better be able to keep up greenie." Minho said as we waited for the doors to open.

"So you're the greenie that everyone is praising. Ben by the way." he said holding out his hand for me to shake. Minho shaking it, "Introductions are over, now remember to stay close. If you get lost you're on your own greenie." he said and just then the doors opened.

"Oh great hero of the maze, I need help getting away from this shucking idiot." I said rolling my eyes, and heard ben chuckling.

"Let's go." Minho said and started to run into the maze. I followed closely, after being here for over a week now. Somehow my body was much stronger, and my stamina increased of course.

"See you later." Ben said and turned left, meanwhile Minho and I turned right. I smiled and continued following Minho. We were running for I don't know how many hours, but he would stop from time to time to cut vines and stop in the middle of running so many times.

"What are you doing?" I finally asked annoyed, but grateful for all the stops he would take while we ran. "Taking notes of the changes in the maze. As you already know that the maze changes every night, and got to be quick. Although grievers don't appear often during the day. It doesn't mean that they still aren't around." he said and put away the notepad.

I remembered the first time I saw a griever, Newt had shown me through a glass window that was installed in the wall. The creators were cruel, it seemed like a reminder that we would never escape this place. I started to appreciate the Runners much more, since they were risking their lives to find a way out for everyone. But never would I say these words out loud, for Minho head would be even more full of himself.

It been hours, and we finally took a short break for lunch. "Why?" Minho's voice broke through the silent maze. I looked up from eating, and met his gaze. "Why did you cry and reach out towards me when you first got here?" he asked.

"I don't know. I don't even remember what happened. It's as if someone purposely took it away. I don't know if it's the creators that took it, since they were the ones to send us all up here clueless." I saw Minho nod agreeing. "But honestly, don't be a shucking klunk after what I'm about to tell you." I said as he raised an eyebrow curious.

I sighed and hoped I wouldn't regret telling him this, but oh well here goes. "Whenever I'm around you, my heart just feels a deep sadness...It's not as worse as it was the first few days that I've been here, but still right now my chest feels heavy and it sucks that I don't understand why it feels this way. Honestly, I think that the both of us kn-" I stopped as I heard the sounds, clink clink clink.

Fear struck me, it was the sound of a griever making its way towards us. I quickly stuffed everything into the bag, not caring if food spilt all over inside. "Run!!!" Minho yelled and we both turned back the way we came. The griever shrieked loudly as it came running towards us with those hideous legs. I guess this was one of the bad days, a griever decided to explore the maze with us, and interrupt our conversation as well.

This was only my first day trying to be a runner, and I'm being chased by a griever for shucks sake! I wasn't as fast as Minho, but I wasn't slow either. I'm not letting that thing catch me even if my life depended on it. It was like an 30 minutes before the doors were suppose to close, which there shouldn't have been any grievers out yet.

My muscles were screaming out in pain as I ran from the griever. I was losing my pace, and couldn't keep up with Minho any longer. The griever was catching up, and one of it's legs shot towards me and sliced my arm. Adrenaline rushed through my system, I couldn't even feel it. I kept running. Minho was no longer in sight. And I was left alone with the griever. Shuck, I'm dead.

Just then I remembered the pocket knife that Newt had given back to me when I was working at the gardens with him, but the blade was too small. Oh what the hell! I turned the opposite way that Minho had turned to lead the griever away from the glade. I made my way through the maze quickly. I don't even know how I did, it was my first time stepping into it. Yet, it seemed as if I was running this maze for just as long as Minho.

"Ji-Ho!!!!" I heard Minho's voice shout not too far. The griever suddenly stopped chasing me and went towards the direction of Minho's voice. I would have fallen to the ground, for my knees went weak from all the running, but Ben suddenly came from nowhere and caught my arm. "Let's go." he said helping me stay steady and we both started running back towards the glade.

"Someone get her to the med-jacks! She's hurt!" Ben said as we both entered the glade. Newt and Alby came running towards me asking if I was alright, and where Minho was. I fell into Newt's arms as I was losing blood from the huge cut the griever had given me, and due to my knees going weak from the adrenaline no longer in my system.

Clint quickly stitched me up with the new technique that I had shown him while working as a med-jack. "You're doing it wrong." I said, and took the needle and thread from him and finished stitching myself up. Alby kept a poker face, but I could see him cringe every time I stuck the needle into my skin.

"Is she okay?!" I heard Minho's voice shouting as he burst into the room, just to see me stitching myself up, and the boys watching. "Shucking hell! What were you even thinking?!" he yelled as he walked up to me. "You could have died!" he said while catching his breath.

I finished stitching myself and hopped off the bed. I needed to know that this wasn't a dream, and that I really was still alive, so I wrapped my arms around his waist and pulled him in for a hug. "Why did you leave me and run so damn fast. You shucking idiot." I said shakily as I started crying from the fear of being chased by that monstrous thing. Minho kept quiet.

"I was only trying to make sure that less people died, so I decided it was best to keep the best runner around rather than the greenie who knows nothing." I said as my tears started to stain his shirt. He didn't say anything one again. I heard the boys leave to give us some privacy. Minho tightly hugged my shaking figure, "I'm so sorry." he gently whispered into my ear.
