1-Girl

05:07, 30 March 2017

It's cold, was the first thing I felt as I felt my body waking up. My eyes slowly adjusting to the quick lights that passed every few seconds, showing a metal cage that was filled with wooden crates, and me. Where am I? Who am I? These two questions popped into my head as the cage was still traveling upwards to who knows where. I felt around me, only to feel the cold metal and my clothes that were wet for some reason. Seriously wet jeans are not comfortable.

I pulled myself up, using the wooden crates nearby me. It was then I saw a pocket knife stabbed into a wooden crate holding down a small piece of paper that was fluttering due to the wind created by the upward motion of the metal cage. I slowly walked towards it and read what was on the paper.

I promise. Those were the only words written. I took the small knife that held down the paper, and tucked the piece of paper into my pocket. I could faintly hear voices shouting from above, and readied myself for whatever came my way.

Bang! The cage stopped suddenly, sending my back to the floor of the cage. The voices were more clear now, and there was also more light peeping through the top of the closed cage. "Open it up!" I heard a voice shout, and then sunlight poured into the small cage I was in, blinding me.

"No way..." a voice from above said,

"What is it?" another voice shouted a bit further away.

"It's a girl!" they answered and jumped into the box. Momentarily blocking the sunlight.Scared, I scooted away from him, only to have my back against the cage.

"Where am I?" I asked and tried to scoot farther away from the boy that was inching closer to me. "Stay away!" I shouted and held the pocket knife that had been in my hand.

"Whoa! Okay!" the skinny boy with blond hair said standing in place. "You're in the maze." he answered.

"The maze?" I asked. Just then a sharp pain erupted in my head, making me drop the knife I was holding and screaming at the top of my lungs to stop the pain. The boy then rushed towards me, with more boys at the open hole trying to see what was going on.

"Don't just stand there! Help me get her to the med-jacks!" the skinny boy said as he easily lifted me up and passed me to another boy, who carried the screaming me over his shoulder, all the way to wherever they took me.

I must have passed out. I couldn't remember what happened after they had rushed me here. I was awake, but dared not open my eyes due to the voices that were speaking so closely to me.

"A girl?" "Do you think she could be the key out of this place?" "Don't know." the voices all started to mix together until another voice yelled out, "Get out! I'll let you know when she wakes up. Standing here isn't going to magically make her eyes open!" Hearing footsteps leave the room, and finally things went quiet.

I waited until there was absolute silence, when not even a breath could be heard I opened my eyes. No one was around. I sat up on the bed I was placed in. I looked around to see lamps lighting up the huge stick house that had medical appliances laying everywhere. I slowly got up to see that I was still in the clothes that I had on when I arrived, only now it was dried. I got up and exited the tent, it seemed that I wasn't out for too long, since the sun seemed it was just starting to set. There weren't many people out, which made no sense because you were sure that when you arrived you heard and saw much more people. I slowly made my way across this place and stopped until I stood far enough in to see everything.

I took in the view around me. Slowly turning to see the grass stretch everywhere until it hit the walls that surrounded this place. The maze, the boy called it. There was a forest as well, and buildings that looked looked slanted, but others that were much more normal looking. Hammocks hanging on the trees, a small group of boys working at what seems like a garden. Why does this all look so familiar? Have I been here before?

"Where's the girl?!" I heard a voice shout from the building that I had exited earlier. My body had already started sprinting towards the wall that had a small opening.

"Over there!" another voice shouted. I could hear them telling me to stop, but my feet kept moving forward and before I knew it I was just at the entrance of the opening. I stopped and peered into the dark, creepy passageway that seemed to extend forever.

"Hey!" the skinny blond boy said as he grabbed my arms and tried pulling me away from where I was standing. Soon others joined and tried to push me away, but I was fighting to stay where I was. I couldn't understand myself, as to why I wanted so badly to stay and stare into the passageway that reeked of death.

Just then as I broke through the group that was crowding me, I saw a figure that had just turned into the passageway and headed straight towards where we were. My emotions were going out of control as the figure approached closer and closer. "I'm telling you one last time. Get away! No one goes into the maze!" a boy with dark skin said as he caught up with me and stood between me and the boy who had just came from the maze.

"Hey what's going on? Why is there a shucking girl here?" the boy from the maze said as he approached us and stood beside the dark skinned boy.

Tears spilled down my face, as I slowly turned towards the boy, and I stretched out my pale hand towards the confused looking Asian boy. "Finally." I said and again fainted for the second time since I had gotten here.

Author's Note: I know things started out messy, but everything has it's reason for being as it is. Trust me. But hope you enjoyed the first chapter! Here's a little treat for your eyes.
