Chapter 26
02:24, 7 July 2014Wesley's POV
"Drew, open the fuck up!" I yell through the door, pounding on it as I wait for him to open it.
"Wesley? I thought you were in jail-" I punch the shit out of him, cutting him off.
"Drew." I growl, pushing him up against the wall, furiously.
"What?" He spits out blood as he talks.
"Why the fuck would you make out with Melanie?" I yell.
"I don't know, Wes! You're still dating her anyway so why are you complaining!"
"You kissed my girlfriend, that's why! Why can't you just let us be happy?! Let me be happy for fucks sake! Drew, I'm actually dating someone now. She's not some random one night stand. I thought you wanted me to get better and I have."
"I do, but you and her got in a fight! I figured y'all broke up!"
"Well we did for like a week. I got her back though! Why can't you understand that she only likes you as a friend? You should've tried to date her along time ago."
"She just met me when she started dating Jace! I didn't want to rush her, I wanted to get to know her first! How do you think I was supposed to know that someone was gonna ask her out 2 weeks after I met her?" Drew yells back at me, looking frustrated.
"I-I don't know, man. But you're my best friend for fucks sake!"
"You ended up sleeping with another girl anyway! You shouldn't be mad at her."
"I'm mostly mad because I didn't even find out until just yesterday! I kicked her out when she told me."
"Now that's fucked up, Wes."
"Everything about me is fucked up." I mumble.
"Why do you say that?"
"Because, I beat you up and you're my best friend.. I've started smoking again.. I cheated on my girlfriend.. Keaton says I'm not a good brother and I never was after Misty and I was sent to jail!"
"Dude, those are things in the past. Just don't do them again. And wait, why does Keaton think you're a bad brother?"
"Because.. He said I was never there for him.. He said that he's supposed to look up to me as a brother, yet I get sent to jail. Which by the way, wasn't my fault. Those fuckers I used to work with turned me in."
"Are you still working with them?"
"No, I'm not crazy. Plus, Mel would kick my ass if I did and she found out."
"Dude, she's a girl."
"Yeah, but she scares the shit out of me sometimes." I say and he starts laughing.
"Where are you working now?"
"I'm a personal trainer now. I get paid a lot so it's worth it." I say and he nods.
"So are we good?" He asks and I smirk at him.
"Yeah, I guess."
"Fuck yeah." He says, and I laugh as he gives me a bro hug. "But seriously. Talk to Melanie."
"I can't.. She had to go to Maine for Jace's memorial.. This weekend was our 1 year anniversary."
"That's fucked up that she'd leave."
"Yeah, that's how you and her making out got brought up. I'm gonna go."
"Okay, man. See you later."
I nod, and walk out, shutting the front door behind me.
-
"Mel, please call me. You're probably on the plane right now but I just need to talk to you, baby. Please just call me back. I-I love you." I say into her voicemail, hanging up right after.
"Okay, Jim. Let's get back to training." I say, walking over to the weights with him.
As I'm helping him lift the weights, I begin to think about Melanie and what she's doing at the moment. I wonder if she misses me? I hate myself for kicking her out. It was probably the stupidest thing I could do.
"Wesley." I'm taken out of my thoughts by Jim trying to get my attention.
"Fuck.. Yeah?" I ask, blinking a few times.
"Are you okay, man? You seem out of it."
"Yeah.. I was just thinking."
"Do you wanna stop for the day? I'm kinda tired." He suggests, standing up.
"Yeah, sure. See you later." I say and he smiles at me before walking off.
I go and get my water bottle, taking a gulp and decide to close the place for the night. I hear the door open a second later, my back facing the door as I'm putting up stuff.
"Sorry we're closed." I call, over my shoulder.
I wait for a few seconds, and they still don't leave so I turn around.
"I said, we're clos-" I cut myself off when I finally see who it is, my heart almost stops.
"M-Misty? What the fuck are you doing here?" I barely get out and I almost put my shirt back on.
"Well hello to you too, Wesley." She speaks, rolling her eyes.
"Leave." I snap, but she does the opposite. She walks straight over to me.
"Wesley, I think we need to talk."
"No, Misty. I don't even wanna look at you, what makes you think I want to talk to you?"
"Oh, come on. Where's Melanie?"
"She's out of town."
"And you didn't go with her? What a shame." She smirks, crossing her arms over her chest.
"It's a family matter." I half lie.
"Hmm."
"Why the fuck are you here?" I repeat.
"I wanted to talk."
"About what? We have nothing to talk about. You coming all the way up here was a waste."
"Wes, I just wanted to tell you that I'm proud of you that you've fallen in love again. I heard about how bad you were after I turned on you."
"Yeah, well none of that is your fucking business. How do you even know I'm in love with her?"
"I saw the way you look at her. It's the same way you looked at me when you knew you were in love with me."
"Whatever. Look, I've got to go. I have plans with Drew."
"Well, it was nice to talk to you." She says and I roll my eyes, walking away from her into the locker room.
As I'm packing up my bag, I hear the door open and shut and I think it's just one of the guys here so I think it's nothing.
"Wesley." Misty.
"I thought we were done talking?" I groan, looking at her.
"You work here?"
"Yeah. Why do you care?"
"Because... I thought you got arrested?"
"Fuck." I groan. "How does everybody know about that?!"
"Word gets around."
"My mom told you, didn't she?" I ask as she gets closer to me.
"Maybe." She says, trailing a finger down my bare chest and my breath hitches. "It's been 5 years and you still react the same way to me that you did in high school." She says, laughing a bit as she shakes her head.
"M-Misty." I warn.
"Has everybody left?"
"I think so." I say, and I lean down to press my lips against hers, slamming her against the lockers. I feel her smirk against my lips and she tangles my hair, pulling at the ends.
Melanie's POV
"Melanie, oh my God! It's so nice to see you again." Jace's mom say, pulling me into a hug.
"Same here. It's been two long."
"Here, get a cup of tea and sit down by Bethany. She's been so excited to see you." She says and I smile, taking the tea and venture through the huge house to find Bethany looking at some old pictures. Bethany is Jace's 15 year old sister.
Before I say anything, I check my phone and of course I have 10 texts and 5 missed calls from Wesley. I sigh, shaking my head and putting my phone away.
"Bethany?" I ask, and she turns around, a huge smile plastering into her face as she soon as she sees me.
"Mel!" She practically screams, running over to me and tackling me in a hug and I set my tea down so it doesn't spill.
"Hey, Bethany." I say, hugging her back and laughing a bit at her outburst.
"I've missed you so much." She says, pulling back and I get a good look at her. She looks good for someone who just lost their brother over a year ago.
"I've missed you, too."
"So, how have you been doing?"
"Good. I've gotten better."
"Any new men in your life?" She says, giggling and I blush a bit.
"Yeah?"
"Oh my gosh, who?!" She squeals.
"His name is Wesley."
"Is he hot?!" I laugh as she asks this.
"I guess so.." I try to hide my smirk.
"Do you have any pictures of him?"
I nod, pulling out my phone and showing her some of the pictures we've taken together.
"Oh my God, he's gorgeous!" She exclaims, almost drooling at looking at him.
"Hey, that's is my boyfriend you know." I joke, and we both laugh. "But, have you been dating anybody?"
"Still no." She sighs, immediately frowning.
"Don't worry about it, Bethany. Someone great will come along, you still have the rest of your life to look forward to that." I say, smiling at her and she smiles back as we get called into the kitchen.
"So, everybody can do what they want for a couple of hours. We have lunch in 2 hours and then the actual ceremony for the memorial is an hour after that." Their mom says to everyone and Bethany takes that as her cue to grab my hand and pull me up the long flight of huge stairs quickly.
"What are we doing?" I ask, breathing heavily as I follow her down the long hallway.
"I'm gonna show you my room. It's huge." She says, opening her door as soon as we reach it.
When I walk in, she's right. It is huge. I do know that their parents are very wealthy so this isn't really a surprise to be honest.
"This is amazing. It's even bigger than your room back in New York." I say and she nods.
"Yep, I designed it myself." She says and I smile at her, sitting on the huge bed. "Are you gonna stay in here with me for the weekend?"
"If you want me to." I say and she gets all excited. It's only Saturday, so I only have to stay in here for one night.
-
When it's time for the memorial, we all head to the living room and everyone gives their speeches, including me. I end up bawling in the middle of it.
Bethany and I hold on to each other in her room as we cry our eyes out. I think his death took a bigger toll on her than it did on me. She's still in school so she probably has to explain what happened a lot.
The next day, they take me to the airport after we have breakfast and I'm grateful. When I get to the airport in New York, I head to my car and head straight to Wesley's apartment, thinking that we need to fix things that happened before I left.
When I reach his apartment, I take a deep breath after I get my key out. When I open the door, I see him sitting on the couch half asleep and I want to giggle at the sight.
I close the door, and that wakes him up.
"Oh, hey." He says, sitting up and rubbing his eyes.
"So, how have you been?" I ask and he scratches the back of his neck.
"Good.. I guess.." It's silent for a second before he speaks up again. "I've missed you, baby." He confesses.
"I missed you, too." I say and he stands up, leaning down and pressing his lips against mine roughly.
"I promise I won't kick you out ever again. That was a shitty move and I'm sorry." He says against my lips and I wrap my arms around his neck.
"It's okay, Wes. I still love you."
"I love you, too." He says and picks me up, and I wrap my legs around his waist.
He walks into the bedroom and lays me down on the bed, kissing me passionately. When his hands reach my shorts, I stop him.
"What's wrong?" He asks, trailing his lips down my neck.
"I don't want to have sex tonight." I mumble, looking down.
"And why not?" He says, moving his head up so he's looking down at me.
"I just don't want to."
"Mel, I haven't had sex with you in a few weeks!" He begins to yell.
"Please don't yell at me. I just don't want to do it tonight. I promise tomorrow."
"Whatever." He says, walking out of the bedroom and I sigh.
As I get up, his phone begins to ring and I go look at it. Why the fuck is Misty calling?
"Wesley?" I call out, and walk into the kitchen to see him looking for something.
"Yeah?"
"Why the fuck is she calling?" I ask, showing him the phone.
"I-I don't know." He stutters which just raises my suspicion and he takes the phone, hanging it up.
"Whatever you're hiding from me, I'm gonna find out."
"I'm not hiding anything." He says, turning back around so his back is facing me.
"Whatever." I mock him and then go back to our room, changing into his shirt even though I'm mad at him.
