Chapter 13
20:07, 23 June 2014Wesley's POV
"Please just tell her to call me." I tell Melanie's brother on the phone.
"I've tried, Wes.. She won't eat or leave the house. She ignores us every time we try to talk to her."
"Just keep trying. I'm so fucking worried about her.." I say, running a hand through my hair, stressed.
"I will, Wesley." He says and I hang up a second later.
"Fuck.." I mumble as I realize that I have to go drop those fucking drugs off at some guys house.
I grab the stash for him and my keys and head out the door.
As soon as I get there I can already tell his place is fucked up. There's trash littering his lawn and I head to the front door with the drugs and I can hear loud music pounding against the walls inside. I knock on the door and some guy opens it, a girl with barely any clothes on attached to his side.
"Come on in!" He yells and I step in hesitantly, looking around.
I'm shocked by what I see and memories of parties that I used to go to flash through my mind. This place is exactly like those parties. It's like a fucking rave, the lights are dim and the music too loud. There's half naked girls everywhere and people getting drunk. And of course, getting high as well.
"Who are you?" Two girls come up to me flirtatiously, wrapping their hands around my biceps as they lean against me, looking up at me seductively.
I shove them off and walk around, being handed many shots of liquor but I deny all of them.
"Who are you looking for? You seem lost." Some guy asks me and he seems somewhat sober, which is a surprise coming from this place.
"Uh.. I have to give the owner of this house some drugs he bought from a guy I work with." I say, scratching my head awkwardly.
"Oh.. Yeah, well he's busy.. I can take them and we can send your boss the money?" He suggests and I actually consider it, just to get out of this place as fast as I can.
"Okay.. But you have to make sure my boss gets his money. It could be bad if he doesn't."
"Dude, don't sweat it. He'll get his money." He says, taking the drugs from me and pats my shoulder.
I nod and walk off, shoving through the people parading around. When I get out of the house, my phone starts to ring.
"Hello?"
"Wes?" It's Matthew.
"Yeah?"
"I need you to come over to Mel's place now. She's calling for you and I don't know what to do."
"Fuck, okay I'm coming." I say and hang up the phone quickly, rushing to my car.
I get to Melanie's apartment and rush in, seeing Matthew immediately pointing towards towards her room and I nod. When I get in there I see Melanie curled up under the covers and there's no lights on, just the light from outside peering in through the blinds.
"Mel.." I breathe out, walking over to her and sitting down on the bed.
When I touch her, she's shaking through her sleep and I lean down to kiss her forehead.
Her eyes open a second later and as soon as she sees me she immediately pulls me by my shirt to her and wraps her arms around me. I feel my shirt start to get wet and I can tell she's crying.
"I'm here, baby."
"Wesley, I miss her so much."
"I know, are you feeling okay?"
"No." She mumbles into my shoulder and I hug her tighter.
"It's okay, baby." I say and get more comfortable on the bed, pulling her onto my lap as she just cries and cries.
Matthew comes in and stops in his tracks when he sees us. He gives me a thumbs up and slowly backs out.
"I'm so sorry I haven't talked to you for a few weeks." She says through her tears and I shake my head as I look down at her.
"Don't apologize. I know what you're going through." I say and lean down to kiss her forehead. "I love you baby."
"I love you too." She says and I can tell she's depressed.
She eventually cries herself to sleep.
I get up carefully and tuck her under the covers. When I leave her apartment, I head straight to Drew's apartment.
"What the hell are you doing here?" He asks immediately when he opens the door.
"Doesn't matter. Have you even went to see Melanie?"
"Yeah.. Well, only at her mom's funeral but we hardly talked."
"Wow, Drew. What a great friend you are." I say as he shuts the door after he lets me in.
"Well, she won't talk to anybody! She barely said hi to me at the funeral because she was with you!" He yells and I shake my head.
"No, Drew! That doesn't make it right... Wait, why do you care that she was with me?"
"I...."
"Drew." I warn.
"Because I like her, okay!"
"That's normal for friends."
"I like her more than a friend okay! Fuck!" He yells, slamming his hand against the wall.
"What?" I breathe out.
"I'm sorry, Wes. But I do, I have ever since I met her."
I walk over to him, taking the collar of his shirt and slamming him against the wall.
"Fuck you." I growl at him and shoves me off of him.
"No, fuck you! You don't treat her right!" He yells and I clench my jaw.
"Yes, I do!"
"No, you don't! You fucking slapped her, man!"
"Don't you dare fucking bring that up!" I yell louder and punch him square in the jaw.
He groans on the floor and I'm breathing heavily, shaking off the pain in my hand.
"Don't you dare try to make a fucking move on her." I say, and walk out if his apartment.
Melanie's POV
When Wesley left I slept for hours.. It only felt like 30 minutes though.
How could my mom just be taken from me like that just out of no where? It was a great day until we found out she died.
I've been so caught up with mourning over my mom's death that I totally forgot about Wesley's little "job" he has going on.
Why would he work with people like that? Is he really that desperate for money?
I decide to not worry about it for now and just get more cuddled under the covers of my bed.
"Melanie!" Someone yells and it's my dad.
He walks into my room and I sit up.
"Ah, there you are."
"Why are you here?"
"Get dressed. We're going to NYU. You got accepted, Melanie!" He boasts excitedly and I gasp.
"I did?!"
"Yes! Let's go!"
"Okay, I'll be out in a second." He nods and leaves my room.
I put a dress shirt on and some leggings. I put some heels on as well and make my hair look presentable, putting on make up too.
I walk out of my room and my dad hugs me before heading out and I follow him, getting in his car with him.
As we head there, I tap my foot against the foot of his car and my hands are shaking as we head there.
"So, the head of the nursing program is gonna walk you around and show you the place. I know one of the students there and he's gonna help you with what to do. His name is Thomas. He's a couple years older than you and he's single." He says and I look at him, confused.
"Dad, you know I'm dating Wesley.."
"I know.. Melanie, I want you to stop dating Wesley." He says and my jaw drops.
"What, why?"
"Because.. He's a bad influence on you and I've heard he's physically hurt you."
"Oh, did mom get to you?"
"'No, but she's right."
"No, she's not! She never was!" I yell and he shakes his head.
"Mom would want you to do this."
"Well, mom's not here!"
"Melanie!"
"It's true!" I whisper and I look out the window quickly.
"Just give this boy a chance. He's very charming if I say so myself."
"No." I say and I see him roll his eyes.
"You're not allowed to see Wesley anymore."
"Dad!"
"No, Melanie! I'm doing this for your own good." He says and I start to tear up as I look out the window.
When we get to the hospital, the nerves kick in as I get out of the car.
I follow my dad into the building and he immediately sees someone he knows and I guess it's the head of the nursing program.
"Melanie, this is Dr. Fields." He says and I smile.
"Hello, Ms. Withers, it's nice to meet you." She says as I shake her hand.
"Nice to meet you, too. Call me Melanie." I say and she looks over her shoulder as if she's looking for someone.
"Ah, here he is. Thomas! Come here, I'd like you to meet someone." She says and I look at my dad for a second and roll my eyes as he grins at me.
A boy who looks about in his early twenties walks over to us and from what I can tell already, he's gorgeous. He's got black hair that stands up in a quiff, a white t-shirt, ripped black jeans and black boots.
"Hey mom, sorry I'm late." He says and my eyes widen as he calls her mom.
"This is my son, Thomas. He's a student just like you but he knows his way around the place a lot more than the other students do. Mainly because he's my son. Thomas, this is Melanie Withers."
"Hi." I say and he shakes my hand, smirking at me.
"Nice to meet you, Melanie."
"Nice to meet you, too."
"So, Thomas.. You can show her around and I'll talk to her dad about enrollment." Dr. Fields says and I nod along with Thomas.
I follow Thomas down the hall and he points stuff out to me on the way.
All of a sudden, he pulls me into a closet and I gasp as he grips my hips tightly.
"What the hell are you doing?" I ask, trying to pry his hands off of me.
"I wanna take you on a date." He says, biting his lip as he looks down at me. I almost get lost in his eyes but I catch myself.
"No, I have a boyfriend."
"I heard you broke up with him."
"My dad must have told you that. He wants me to break up with him for you."
"I'd listen to daddy if I were you." He whispers in my ear and I squirm in his hold.
"No." I spit and he laughs before pressing me against the wall.
"Wanna say that again?" He says, smirking and before I know it his lips are against mine.
At first I try to fight him off but I soon melt into the kiss. I tangle my fingers in his hair and he grips my hips tighter as he deepens the kiss, our lips moving in sync.
Oh shit. What am I doing? I just cheated on Wesley, I need to fucking stop kissing Thomas! But I can't. He's such a good kisser and I'd be lying if I said he wasn't fucking sexy.
"We should get going." He says as he pulls away and I look down, blushing; embarrassed.
"Yeah." I say and he grabs my hand as we walk out of the closet.
We meet up with our parents before he gives me another kiss and we head our separate ways.
The only thing I can think about on the way back him is how the hell am I supposed to tell Wesley? Shit.
