Let's Break Up

13:49, 16 May 2022

Jung walked towards a shattered Boyoung and kept his hand on her shoulder.

"Boyoung, I know you trust him a lot... but just think about it, can he let this company go for you?" Jung asked.

"What do you mean?" Boyoung asked wiping her tears.

"I mean, if he is innocent in all this, can he resign for you?" Jung tried to instigate.

"Why are you saying that, I don't understand" Boyoung spoke sternly.

Jung smirked and walked towards the door.

"I will be waiting for you in the meeting room for the separation process, so sorry," he said before walking out.

Boyoung felt numb and clueless as she stared blankly at the wall.

As Jung walked out, he could see the tension in the office as most employees were curious about what was happening. But Jung knew that he couldn't let this matter be public or else if they investigated more, he could get into trouble as well. He ensured that the matter was kept a secret from the employees.

He picked up his phone and flashed a victorious smile before calling his partner in crime.

"It's done, now he will either resign out of love or we will make him do so later," Jung said as he felt content to have won the game.

~

Every employee in the office shuddered that day when they saw their President walk into the office. His shoes hit the floor hard as if he would destroy the whole world under his feet. He was wearing a black suit, making him look no less than Doom. His eyes were burning red with anger, jaws tensed and brows wrinkled in a frown.

Nobody in the office could understand what had happened and why he looked so stressed that morning, but they had no option but to wait.

As Inguk walked straight into the meeting room, he found Jung, Boyoung, and their company's legal head, Mr. Ko seated there.

"Do you guys want to get killed? " he shouted as he walked across the room and stood near his chair.

"Mr. Seo, please- " Boyoung tried to remind him not to forget his professionalism.

"Do you expect me to listen to their nonsense calmly, Boyoung?" he shouted.

"President Seo, we have proofs against her-" Jung began to speak.

"Jung, would you keep your mouth shut for a minute?" Inguk snapped.

There was silence in the room, nobody wanted to say anything since they knew Inguk wouldn't listen. Jung was feeling happy from within for causing the whole trouble.

"Listen, Mr. Ko... neither I nor Miss Park had any idea regarding the transfer of money" Inguk tried to explain.

"I can understand..." said Mr. Ko, who was an elderly and trusted lawyer. "But it's about the documents Mr. Seo, it proves that the transactions were approved by Miss Park. We don't have any proof against you, but I am afraid she has to resign even if you return the money"

"Nonsense, I do not approve of this" Inguk said banging his hand on the table.

"I am afraid you have no power in this decision Mr. Seo" Jung said.

Inguk shut his eyes and gritted his teeth before speaking.

"Jung, I inherited this company from Mr. Kim and I own 50 percent of the shares," Inguk said sternly.

"That's right, and the rest of 50 percent is owned by the stakeholders and investors, so you don't have any upper hand" explained Mr. Ko.

"SO WHAT! What do you expect me to do?" Inguk shouted.

"Mr. Seo, don't shout please," Boyoung said in a low voice.

Inguk looked at her and tried to get himself back to composure but he was unable to.

"Look, Mr. Seo, first of all, tell me if you have the amount in your personal bank account or not?" asked Mr. Ko.

"I do" Inguk nodded. "I got it checked this morning, it was a rarely used account and I had no idea that something like that was happening," he said.

"Okay, we will inquire with the bank why no notifications were sent to you. Next, I have set up a meeting with the investors and stakeholders with their lawyers as well. We need to give them an explanation of why this happened"

"Whatever, I cannot let Miss Park resign," Inguk said looking away.

"I hope you know they are objecting to your and Miss Park's personal relationship as well" Jung interrupted.

"How does it matter to them! " Inguk gritted his teeth.

"C'mon, you know it too, she cannot work under you if you two are in a relationship and you had to reveal it officially anyway" Jung informed.

"Jung you better shut the - " Inguk spoke but was interrupted.

"He is right Mr. Seo, if we tell them Miss Park has not resigned then it will make their allegations valid," said Mr. Ko calmly.

"I DON'T CARE" Inguk didn't know what else to do or say.

"If you are so agitated you should resign for hiding your relationship with her, she is in trouble because of you..."  Jung provoked Inguk.

"What did you say?" Inguk narrowed his eyes and gave a dreaded look to him.

"I trust my cousin Boyoung very much Mr. Seo, I know someone has tricked her, but I wonder who is the only person in the company who could have done that?" Jung dared to say it.

Inguk gritted his teeth and walked across the table and reached where Jung was sitting. He stood up from his chair with a smirk.

"Say that again and I will make your life a living hell" he spoke.

"Why? Can't you give up this company to prove you had no wrong intentions?" Jung smirked.

"I don't need to prove anything to anyone, Jung! I won't resign under any case"

Boyoung suddenly looked up and stared at him. Jung was quick enough to exchange glances with her, reminding her of what he had told her about Inguk. She got up from her chair and reached next to Inguk.

"Mr. Seo," she said in a low voice. "... do you trust me?" she asked.

"Of course I do," he replied.

"Everyone is questioning your intentions and mine too..." she said.

"I know, and that's wrong," he said.

"If both of us resign and you return the money, it might prove that we had no wrong intentions and we might get a chance to join again," she said.

"What are you saying Miss Park? It makes no sense, why should we resign if we are not at fault" he asked getting a little annoyed.

"But for that, we need to prove that we were tricked, and until then, we must - "

"Miss Park!" Inguk objected. "It was you who got tricked"

Jung smirked as he could sense the tension building. Boyoung gulped in with her eyes slowly welling up in disbelief.

"W-what... I - I have never signed anything without reading it, Mr. Seo... except when... when you said you had checked it."

"What do you mean? Did I plan all of this? That is what you think Miss Park?"

Boyoung pursed her lips and held her tears back.

"Who else would benefit from all this Mr. Seo?" she asked looking straight into his eyes.

Inguk's eyes were brimming by then but he couldn't do what Boyoung wanted him to do.

"I guess, you don't trust me enough then..." he spoke.

"I did, and it was probably my biggest mistake," she said with a shrill voice.

"I won't resign," he said with a stubborn stare.

"But I will, so congratulations for stealing this company from me."

"Miss Park, are you out of your mind?" he said in a slightly higher tone.

"I was- I was out of my mind."

"What?"

"Let's break up... I will resign from your company, your house, and your life..." she said before picking up her bag and taking out her pen.

"Miss Park!" Inguk called out to her in shock.

She went to her place at the table and signed her resignation papers while glancing at him for the last time before leaving the meeting room. Inguk stood there with a fallen face, feeling blank about what had just happened.

Jung sighed and raised his brows. He had doubted that Inguk won't be resigning so easily but since he had a difference with Boyoung now, he was going to be an easy target.

Inguk was sitting in his cabin, looking at the nameplate in front of him, which read - President. He gulped in, stopping his tears from falling as he recalled what happened earlier in the meeting room.

"May I come in?" asked Jung as he stood at the door of his cabin.

Inguk didn't say anything but Jung walked in anyway.

"What the hell do you want?" asked Inguk.

"Umm, I am here to take you through the process of returning the money, you know it is a huge amount so..."

"Who said anything about returning the money?" Inguk said looking straight at Jung.

"W-what? " Jung felt chills as he had not expected that from Inguk.

"Yes, you heard it right. I have no plans to return the money right now." Inguk said.

"But, you are obliged to do that, we have a meeting with the - " Jung began to speak but Inguk interrupted him.

"That's none of your concern, Jung. I will discuss it with Mr. Ko" Inguk said sternly,

"But I am the head of accounts!" Jung shouted.

Inguk stood up from his chair and shouted back - "Keep your voice down in my cabin" he said.

Jung was annoyed beyond limits. He expected Inguk to become fragile after the allegations which were put forth by Boyoung. But something opposite of that was happening.

"I know Jung, you are the head of accounts and that's why I wanted to ask you... how can such a huge transaction of money go unnoticed by you?" Inguk asked gritting his teeth.

"It was done in parts, and Boyoung was in charge whenever I was on leave," Jung said.

"I want to speak to your team members, send them in along with Mr. Ko," Inguk said sitting back on his chair and opening his laptop.

"I am not your secretary, Mr. Seo," said Jung getting agitated.

"But I am your President, so better do what I say... and tell Yo Han to make sure this doesn't get out in the public or else I will be your worst nightmare"

Jung clenched his fists and walked out of Inguk's cabin. He unwillingly had to agree to whatever Inguk was saying and he was nervous while Inguk and Mr. Ko interrogated his team members. But nothing came out of the discussion. None of the team members had prepared the documents which Boyoung had signed. They had only processed the transactions after getting the signed papers.

~

In her room in President's Villa, Boyoung was sitting on her bed, arranging her clothes in a suitcase. She was preparing to vacate the place. Her eyes were swollen as she had cried the whole day. She was heartbroken with what she had to face.

She picked up a small packet kept along with her clothes and opened it. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she saw the blue shell that Inguk had given to her. Just then she heard the door of her room open and she turned around to look who it was.

As the door opened, Inguk walked in with a straight face and scanned the bed where she had kept all her clothes and the suitcase. She took a sharp breath and stared at him as he noticed the shell in her hand.

He shut his eyes and took a deep breath before walking toward her. She kept the shell away and stood up immediately, and started putting her dresses in the suitcase. She had her back towards Inguk and he simply stood there without saying anything.

She tried to ignore his presence but expected that he would say something. Instead, he was quiet and all she could hear was his heavy breathing.

She slowly turned around and darted her eyes at him. He had no expressions on his face, but it felt that he was holding himself back.

"Oppa-" she said and took a deep breath.

But before she could say anything further, she found his strong arms wrapped around her body as he pulled her into a hug. He dug his face deep into the crook of her neck and held her close to his chest.

"Boyoung..." he said with a sigh as tears started rolling down his cheek.

"Oppa-" she tried to break the hug but he pulled her back.

"Do you really have to leave? I cannot do this anymore..." he said sinking his face in her hair.

Boyoung smiled and slowly brought her hands upon his back and closed her eyes letting her tears fall.

"It's important that I leave or else they will doubt..." she said.

"I don't care... Please don't leave - " he pleaded.

She slowly broke the hug and took his face in her hands.

"Oppa, I told you to do this for our own good" she tried to make him understand.

"What good does it serve? I had to say all those hurtful things to you! Do you know how much it pained me?" Inguk said and pulled her into a hug again impatiently.

"It's okay, don't feel bad about it," she said patting him on the back. "When Jung talked about your resignation, I knew there was something wrong with him. I don't know why he is doing all this, but I know he is involved. That's why I called you immediately and told you about the plan."

Inguk broke the hug and made her sit on the bed while he sat next to her.

"Boyoung, why can't we just tell everyone that it is all his doing? I told you I have a way to prove that you are innocent, then why do we have to fake a fight and break up?" he questioned.

"I know you told me there is a way and I don't doubt whatever you have thought, but we need something to prove that Jung is behind all this. As you know, he was always on leave during that time and we have nothing against him," Boyoung explained.

"Why couldn't we do it together?" he almost begged her.

"Because we need to make him think that he is winning so that he makes a mistake..."

Inguk rolled his eyes and looked away.

"Oppa.." Boyoung said cupping his cheeks and making him look at her.

"What..." he said feeling sad.

"I love you..." she said giving him a peck on the lips.

He sighed and finally smiled at her.

"I love you too... and thank you, for trusting me no matter what," he said before kissing her on the forehead.

"When I leave the house, don't come down to see me off, someone might be keeping an eye on me," Boyoung said.

"Ah. It's frustrating..." Inguk said gritting his teeth.

"It's just a matter of two days Oppa, I am not even taking all my clothes," she chucked.

"It's funny how he actually believed we fought over whatever he said to you," Inguk twisted his lips and laughed.

"Of course, it pains me a lot to imagine that my cousin is doing this with us, but, he is dealing with actors so he better be careful" Boyoung shrugged trying to feel better by joking about the situation.

Inguk smiled at her and pulled her into another hug before she left him alone that night.

The next day Inguk made sure to talk to everyone in the office without letting them know what the matter was. The employees were informed that Boyoung was on leave and there was some issue with the investors for which the meetings were being held.

The only person Inguk could trust at that time was the lawyer Mr. Ko who honestly helped him with everything. He was just waiting for Jung to make a mistake so that he could prove that it was all his doing.

He spent the whole day preparing for the meeting he had with the stakeholders the next day. He was immensely tired when he reached home at night and prayed to God to give him some proof against Jung before the meeting was held.

The only person he could think about when he went to bed was the lady who was missing from the spot next to him. He felt empty from within and he couldn't help but pick up his cellphone and dial her number.

"Oppa.." she said in her sweetest voice which felt like medicine to him.

"I miss you..." he said.

"I miss you too... a lot!" she replied.

"Can't you come back?" he asked.

"Just one more day... did you find anything against Jung?"

"Not yet, but I know that most people in the office don't trust him. Then how did he do it?" Inguk wondered as he asked Boyoung.

"Even I am not sure about that, I have never trusted him enough as well. How did he trick me into signing those papers?"

"The work seems to be done by someone we trusted a lot, Boyoung... someone who knew about you, about me ... someone who was trusted by all the employees"

"Hmm, but I don't know who could it be?"

"Ah, by the way, do you have any idea how Jung got the video of my carrying you to the elevator when you were drunk?" asked Inguk.

"I don't know... I assume Sang Hoon had helped him to get the video"

"But Sang Hoon came afterward, do you think he had time to check all the videos just to find a clip like that? I don't think so..."

"Hmm, there has to be a way Jung got to know about it..."

"Boyoung, wait I am getting a call... I'll call you back," Inguk said before cutting her call as he had probably received the call he had been praying for.

The next day, Inguk entered the conference room where all the stakeholders were seated with their lawyers. Jung, Mr. Ko, Boyoung, and a few others whom they trusted amongst the employees were also seated.

Inguk came up to his chair at the head of the table and greeted everyone. He could see that Jung had a wicked smile on his face even when he was a little annoyed. Boyoung was completely unaware of what Inguk and Mr. Ko had planned to save her from the allegations that were put on her. Inguk insisted that it needed to be kept a secret before the meeting. She patiently waited for him to speak up as she was curious.

"First of all, I would like to apologize to you all for the inconvenience that was caused." Inguk began addressing the members.

Boyoung saw a smirk on Yoo Na's face as she felt victorious about the situation.

"It was informed to you all that various transactions of a total of 3 Million dollars were done over one year into my personal account, that was approved by Miss Park," Inguk said. "I would like to inform you that it is all true, and it was I who asked Miss Park to sign those documents without letting her read them."

Jung's jaw dropped as there was chatter in the room, everyone was shocked and confused. Boyoung got nervous and tried to stop him.

"Mr. Seo what are you -" she spoke but Inguk shook his head to stop her.

"Because I had a reason... please have a look," he said before switching on the television screen on the back of his chair.

All eyes went to the screen on which a video played. It was a recording of a huge building that appeared to be made for children.

"This place is called Little Stars, a branch of Star Infinity in the US. It is an acting school and agency for child actors" Inguk informed, which stunned everyone.

"Wait where is this coming from I have no-" spoke Jung but inguk gestured for him to stop speaking.

"It was started in secrecy two years ago by the former President Mr. Kim. He wanted others to know about it when it flourishes, which it has now." Inguk continued.

The stakeholders and investors seemed to be impressed by it. They knew it was very profitable for the company.

"Mr. Kim also wanted to open the same in Seoul, and the work has been going on since last year..." Inguk showed the model video and clips of the project. "This is the project for which I was using the money"

Boyoung was shocked to know about it while Jung felt agitated.

"But it does not justify your act of transferring money to your personal account!" Jung blurted out, confirming that he was not on Inguk's side. He knew that Inguk was lying but there was nothing Jung could do about it.

"I know, I can explain that too..." Inguk said as he spoke further. "The former president, Mr. Kim, wanted this project to be a surprise for someone special. Unfortunately, it didn't go so well since Jung found out about the transactions. "

"This is nonsense, you are speaking nonsense!"

"Watch your mouth Jung, you're speaking to your President," said Boyoung as she glared at him. By that time Jung was ready to do anything to turn the events in his favor.

"I have something from your father, that you would like to know," Inguk said as he gestured for Mr. Ko to continue.

Mr. Ko took out a piece of paper from his file.

"The former president, Mr. Kim had given this to me along with his will. In this letter, he has declared that not only is he making Mr. Seo the President of this company and the owner of all of his shares, but he is also declaring an amount of 5 Million dollars from his share which Mr. Seo could use as his personal money" Mr. Ko announced.

Jung was stunned as he started to realize that he had lost the game.

"As you can see, Mr. Kim wanted this project to be a secret, that is why he entitled me to that amount. I used to pay for the expenses personally and then get it transferred back into my account." Inguk sighed. "... I know my ways were not correct, but I did it for the person who has started and built this company from the scratch. And his share in the company values much more than those 3 Million dollars." he completed.

"I think, this is a good project for Star Infinity. I do not have a problem with what you did Mr. Seo, it was for a good cause" said one of the investors.

Jung wasn't even in a position to listen to what was happening in the conference room.

Boyoung was too shocked to know about the project, her Uncle's letter, and the fact that Inguk knew about all of this. She knew that Inguk had twisted the facts a little, and she was curious to know the entire story.

"Thank you, if anyone else has an objection, they can let me know," Inguk said but none of the others objected.

"But what about your relationship with Miss Park? She cannot work under you now if she joins the company" Yoo Na objected.

Boyoung wanted to pull her by the hair right then and slap her on the face, but she controlled herself.

"Miss Park will join as the president of Little Stars, which will be independently administered by her without my involvement now," Inguk announced with a smile.

Boyoung was surprised as she stared at him.

"But... why me?" she asked.

"Because your Uncle, wanted this for you, Miss Park. You wanted to do something for the young talent around the world, and this was his surprise for you..." Inguk said with a warm smile.

Boyoung's eyes suddenly started welling up as she recalled the talks with her Uncle about this and how much he loved her that he planned such a huge thing for her.

"I am sorry, it didn't go as planned but... I hope you understand how much he loved you" Inguk said.

Boyoung emotionally wiped off her tears as she missed her Uncle terribly. She wanted to tell him how touched she felt and at the same time cry her heart out since his own son plotted against her.

Inguk greeted the members for the last time as they started leaving the room. Yoona glared at Jung before she left as he stood numb clenching his fists in anger. Soon, only a few people were left in the room.

"My father, hated us enough to leave nothing for us but everything for you? A stranger?" Jung said gritting his teeth.

"You should be ashamed of yourself, for that Jung," Inguk said calmly. "You never loved your father, only his money."

"Shut up! Okay... I will destroy you." Jung shouted.

"Go ahead, but do that after signing your resignation. Okay?" Inguk said.

Jung was furious and he wanted to leave the room but Inguk stopped him.

"First, apologize to Boyoung," he said.

"It's okay Mr. Seo, I don't need his apology because I can never forgive him," she said.

"I wasn't talking about Jung..." Inguk said which made Boyoung confused. "The one who tricked you, me, and all of us. The one whom we trusted as a brother... but who was the mastermind behind this whole plan since the beginning." Inguk said as he turned towards his side.

"You.. apologize to all of us.." Inguk said.

Boyoung was shocked as her hands shook and she felt breathless.

"Yo Han?" she said in a shaking voice.

Yo Han, who was the sweet younger brother of Jung, was someone who was trusted by everyone in the office. For Boyoung he was like her own brother whom she trusted ever since they were kids. She almost collapsed on her chair as she saw Yo Han standing there with a blank face as he had nothing to defend himself for.

"You should be ashamed of yourself..." said Inguk as he held on to Boyoung.

"Why was it wrong to hate her? My father always supported her, and loved her as his own child! And then, he gave everything to her and ... a stranger like you? Why shouldn't I hate both of you?" Yo Han shouted.

"It's because you never loved him, Idiot! Mr. Kim probably knew you all were after his money!" Inguk said.

"What proof do you have against us anyway?" Yo Han shrugged.

"I doubted you when I realized that you were the only one who saw me carrying Boyoung that day when she was drunk. But you made the biggest mistake by contacting my bank when I rejected to return the money."

Yo Han raised his brow and frowned.

"You contacted the official whom you had bribed to not send me any notifications of the transactions in my account. But everyone's phone was getting tapped yesterday" said Inguk with a smirk.

"I will never forgive you, Yo Han... I treated you like a brother..." Boyoung started crying.

"Boyoung... " Inguk said picking her up from the chair. "I am leaving with her, Mr. Ko, please make sure both of the traitors leave as soon as possible" Inguk said before taking Boyoung with him.

~

Inguk was sitting with Boyoung on a bench in the garden of President's Villa. She was heartbroken and felt low. He had wrapped her in his arms while she rested her head on his chest.

"Boyoung, you shouldn't waste your tears on those people anymore." He said.

"Huh... it hurts when someone you trusted..." she pursed her lips and cried.

Inguk took her face in his hands and wiped her tears off with his thumbs.

"I know... I know how it feels," he consoled.

"I never even doubted him for a second.  I never questioned him and that's how he tricked..." she sobbed.

"It's okay, it's over now..." he said kissing her on the forehead.

"But... you... what was all that about the new branch?" She asked.

"Well, Mr. Kim was working on the branch when I met him during my shoots. He was such a loveable person, I got close to him and one day he asked me to help him with the new branch" Inguk said.

"So? You agreed?" She asked.

"Yes, that's why I was away for so long and I couldn't hide things from you so... I didn't talk to you during that time. I am sorry..." inguk informed.

"I cannot believe it..." she spoke in a low voice.

"Mr. Kim loved you like his own daughter because maybe he never got the love and respect of his own children. When he got to know that he might not be able to live for long, he decided to give the money to me for carrying his work forward. But I had no idea that he would give me everything."

"You dedicated so much of your time just for me and Uncle Kim? And his own sons, they ...." Boyoung said as tears fell off her eyes but Inguk was quick enough to wipe them.

"I think, now I know why Mr. Kim did what he did..." Inguk smiled. "He wanted you to run the company but if you had all the powers, then his sons would have tricked you very easily since you trusted them so much"

"Or maybe because he saw the good in you and he knew that we loved each other since the beginning and I needed you..." she said with a sheepish smile.

"We needed each other, Boyoung. I needed you too..."

She chuckled and kissed his hands.

"Did you really love me since then? That you took so much trouble for me and Uncle Kim?" She asked tilting her head.

"Umm.." he said playfully rolling his eyes. " I think I loved you ever since my eyes fell on you for the first time," he said with a smirk.

Boyoung chuckled and blushed away as he kept looking at her. She somehow managed to look up at him and smile.

"Oppa, the only thing you've stolen from me, is my heart..." she giggled and pulled him into a kiss.

He smiled against her lips and wrapped his hands around her waist, kissing her with all his heart.
