Chapter 4

Every 2 hours I go to check on Mingyu's body temperature with a thermometer. Every half an hour I force him to wake up and drink warm water so he won't get dehydrated. When he starts to whimper in his sleep, I try to be by his side, holding him up and kiss him. I heat the porridge I made this morning so I could give it to Mingyu as his lunch. Yuri, Mingyu's caretaker, always helps me to watch Mingyu when I can't.

Suddenly a loud cry echoes through the house in the middle of me stirring up the porridge. I turn off the stove and hurried towards Mingyu's room. I see Yuri tries to soothe Mingyu, but Mingyu keeps struggling and screaming my name. When Mingyu's eyes catches me he reaches his hand and asks for a hug, "Mommy..." he called with tears stream down his cheeks.

"Hi, baby, why are you crying?"

"Mommy...mommy.."

"Ssshhh..mom's here, dear..don't cry, okay." I place Mingyu in my lap, hug him and keep giving kisses on his head and face. I do that until Mingyu falls asleep.

I put him down and accompany him by his side. Mingyu, please get well soon, dear. Oh God, please lift up his sickness and let me exchange place with him. I better be the one hurting than seeing my son in this state.

Taking care and watching over Mingyu is what I did all day. Checking his temperature, feed him and keeping him hydrated, giving him medicines and vitamins, and also staying close to him in a hug. Thank God all the hard work was paid. At 4 in the afternoon, Mingyu's body temperature starts to cool down. But I can't be careless. After the incident a few hours ago, I rarely leave Mingyu's bed. I keep staring at my son's face while chanting a pray for his health.

Yuri knocks on the room's door and reminds me of something, "Jeonghan-ssi, seems like you haven't been eaten at all today, would you like me to cook you some food?"

I bend towards Mingyu's door. I can hear mother's voice saying, "Leave him" "You can find someone better" "Just this once, listen to your mother"....Wait, what is this? Where is Seungcheol's voice? What did he reply to mother?

Unable to stay still, I walk out of Mingyu's room to see what's happening. I find my mother-in-law and my husband seemingly having an argument. But when they see me, they stop their conversation at all.

"I want to see Mingyu." I nod in response, and she goes to Mingyu's room that instant.

I took a glance at my husband, and my heart sank at his expressionless face. Seeing it all, I can say where it leads my family to.
