Chapter 11

23:43, 25 July 2015

This chapter begins right before Katniss and Peeta go up in the hovercraft.

Katniss

Snow. The word keeps repeating in my head. Peeta and I are walking around District 12, unsure of where to go next.

Peeta tries convincing me that the piece of paper was just from an old letter that was destroyed in the fire; that it was just a coincidence. I don't believe him.

It can't be a coincidence. We had our homes blown up, and a scrap of paper just happened to fall right in front of us with the word Snow written on it. That's just not possible.

A soft hum begins. I thought it was the bug mutations from the Quarter Quell at first but it gets louder and louder with every second. A huge, gray hovercraft appears overhead.

I watch as a long ladder is lowered down. I don't realize what I'm doing before I do it. I grab a sturdy looking rung from the ladder, and Peeta grabs the one right below mine. We began to go back up into the sky.

A masked person pulls us into the craft. I'm out of breath, even though I hardy did anything, besides hold onto something.

The masked figure seems to disappear. I look around at my surroundings. It's extremely dark and gloomy. I turn behind me to look at Peeta. The figure stands behind him. The person lifts up something heavy looking, but I can't warn him in time. The masked man, which I decide to call him, brings down the object and hits Peeta on the head.

I scream as he crumples to the ground. I crawl over to his motionless body and put his head on my lap. He's still breathing. Whatever that person hit him with must not have been that hard.

I glance around for the person, but they're gone again. I feel someone wrap a piece of cloth around my eyes. I scream and tried to fight back, but they drag me away.

I don't know where I am. For all I know, they could throw me off the hovercraft and I would fall to my death. But I don't.

Instead, I am put on what I think is a chair and I have my limbs tied to the sides. I try yelling for help again, but someone puts a piece of thick tape on my mouth. Why couldn't they have just knocked me out, like Peeta.

The ride lasts a little longer until I feel the hovercraft slowly begin to come down.

I have a huge headache, and I didn't even get hit over the head with a chunk of metal. I try to scream as I feel someone carrying me somewhere, but I just make just a soft, muffled noise.

I try flailing around my arms in attempt to punch whoever is carrying me. I kick and try screaming again but I can't get him to let me down. At least, I assume it's a man due to them carrying me over their shoulder like a rag doll.

I hear the sound of a door opening and a few soft whispers. The person carrying me stops, but soon begins walking again.

I try biting the tape over my mouth but it doesn't work. If anything, it makes it worse. I try screaming for Peeta, but once again, fail.

Something must've fallen in front of us because there is a loud crash. My suspicions are confirmed when the person holding me cusses. It's a man's voice.

Then, I can see light through the blindfold over my eyes. A little bit of warmth floods over me. I hadn't realized how cold the hovercraft had been.

I'm set down on the ground, my hands and feet still tied. I wince loudly when the tape is pulled off of my mouth. There is a heavy sounding thud beside me. My guess is that it's Peeta.

Someone behind me unties the blindfold. My eyes opens. I can't see anything but white for a few seconds, due to the bright sun.

My eyes slowly adjust and I can see Peeta lying beside me, still unconscious.

I look around at my surroundings. We're in a a big clearing with tall grass. A few trees are around us. Up ahead, shining bright and tall, is the Capitol.

I turn around to see a cluster of people with big helmets, so their faces are complete hidden. They all have guns in their hands. One of them takes off Peeta's blindfold when he starts stirring.

His eyes open but they squint right away, as I'm sure mine did too, from the sunlight. He slowly sits up and presses his hand to his forehead.

Then he seems me, he makes his way over to me. We don't speak to eachother, but communicate with our eyes. His blue eyes. They aren't cloudy anymore. Just clear, blue eyes like the ones I used to see before the games. The dandelion in the spring. The boy with the bread.

A masked person walks in front of us. They take off their helmet. I expect the person to be a man, but I'm wrong. It's a woman.

She shakes out her white-blonde hair and looks straight at me. "Miss. Everdeen, Mr. Mellark. I'm Fiona Snow."
