He was walking toward her slowly, each step calm but sharp like a warning. There was no rush in his movements, no sign of anger or frustrationโjust quiet intensity that somehow felt more dangerous.
Evie stepped back instinctively, trying to stay composed, but it was clear from her trembling hands and unsteady breath that fear was gripping her. She was trying to appear strong, to keep her chin up but the confidence she wanted to show was nowhere to be found. She was failing, miserably.
Jungkook stopped a few feet away, not too close to scare her further but close enough that she could feel the pressure of his presence. She had no room left to step back. Her back had already hit the edge of the last bench in the classroom, and now she was trapped between him and the wall behind her.
"I just want to talk," Jungkook said quietly, but there was something off about his tone. It was calm, too calm, like the surface of still water hiding a violent current underneath.
Evie stuttered, her voice shaky, "I... don't want to talk." She clutched the bag tighter in her arms and tried to look away, hoping that if she avoided his gaze, he would lose interest and leave. But he didn't. He was unaffected, untouched by her nervousness, standing like a storm that had already decided to break.
"You look so innocent. So confident. So fearless..." Jungkook said as he tilted his head slightly, his eyes scanning her face. "But you're the complete opposite, aren't you?"
Evie's lips parted slightly, confused by his words.
"You act all brave, act like you have guts. You slapped me, insulted me in front of everyone. That was bold, I will give you that," he said with a short laugh, cold and amused. "But then what happened? After all that, you ran away like a scared little cat. Skipping college just because you couldn't face me. Hilarious."
Evie opened her mouth to speak, fumbling for words, but nothing steady came out. "I... didn't skip because of you. I had other things to do... I have problems of my own. I am not scared of you," she said, trying to sound firm, but even she could hear how weak and nervous her voice sounded.
Jungkook chuckled again, shaking his head. "Yes, that can be clearly seen," he said sarcastically, taking another step forward, his eyes never leaving hers. "You say you're not afraid, but you're trembling. You disappeared for days and couldn't even gather the courage to walk into class until now."
Evie's breathing grew quicker. Her hands were shaking now, but she refused to look away. "I already told you," she said, trying to hold herself together. "I am not guilty for what I did. You were wrong first. You crossed a line. You said disgusting things about me in front of everyone... and if it was any other girl, she would've done the same or even worse. So no, I don't regret it. I know you are planning something now. Maybe you'll take revenge, maybe you'll make me suffer, throw me out of college or humiliate me in front of everyone. But I don't care. I said what I had to say."
She looked at him, her eyes wide but her voice shaking badly. Her words were bold, but her body betrayed her fear. She was trying to be strong, but Jungkook could see right through it.
His eyes darkened, lips curling into a low chuckle. Not loud, not mockingโjust cold.
"Interesting," he said simply, his tone unreadable.
Jungkook took another slow step toward her, and Evie could feel her heartbeat echo in her ears. She wanted to move, to walk away or say something strong, but her legs refused to listen. Her throat was dry. She hated how scared she looked, but no matter how hard she tried, her body betrayed her.
"You have no idea what I can do," Jungkook said in a low voice, his tone still calm but sharper now, cutting into the silence between them. "You don't know what I've already done and trust me, you don't want to know."
Evie stared at him, not knowing how to respond. Her lips parted slightly, but no words came out.
"I know you've heard things about me," he continued, his eyes never leaving hers. "Plenty of things. And I'm sure some of them scared you." He stepped a little closer, his voice barely above a whisper now. "Good. They should."
Then his expression shiftedโhis jaw tightened, and his eyes grew darker.
"You're lucky you're a girl," he said. "If it was anyone elseโany guyโwho raised a hand on me like that..." He paused, a dangerous edge in his voice. "That hand would've been broken. Without a second thought."
Evie flinched slightly, not because of his words but because she knew, deep down, he meant every one of them.
"And youโฆ" he added with a mocking smirk, "You actually think you can cross me just because you've got a boyfriend now? How dumb are you?"
Her eyes widened slightly in confusion. "What... what do you mean?" she asked, voice low, unsure.
Jungkook scoffed and tilted his head. "Taehyung. Your precious boyfriend." He chuckled coldly. "You really think just because you're with him, you're safe from me?"
Evie blinked, confused. Her heart skipped a beat. "What are you talking about? You and Taehyung aren't even friends."
At that, Jungkook laughed. A bitter, almost amused kind of laugh. "Seriously? You really thought that? Wow." He ran a hand through his hair. "Taehyung and Iโalong with a few othersโwe've known each other since childhood. Grew up together. He was always the quiet, obedient one... stayed out of everything. And guess what? We never came in his way. We let him live his sweet little life, even when he kept quiet about everything."
Evie just stared at him, speechless. No words came out. Taehyung had never mentioned anything. She had never seen Jungkook and him interact. Not even once.
"And now," Jungkook added, stepping just a little closer, "You think you're so different. So unique. You walk around acting like you're not like other girls. Like you're above all this." His gaze dropped to her lips, then back to her eyes. "But in the end, you did exactly what every other girl would do. You chose someone like him. And rejected me."
He let the silence hang there for a second, heavy and sharp. "He's our friend. Our buddy. And you really think he's serious about you?" His voice dropped lower, like he was whispering a secret meant to poison. "You think someone like Taehyung could actually want someone like you for real?"
Her eyes flickered with shock, hurt, and confusion all at once but she forced herself to hold his stare.
"You know what I think?" Jungkook said, leaning in just a little, his voice calm but sharp. "I don't think he's even serious about you. I've known Taehyung since we were kids. He's the type who always stayed away from girls, always acted like he was above all thatโused to lecture us about not getting involved. And now, suddenly, he's all over you?"
He let out a quiet laugh, shaking his head. "You really believe that? The guy who never even looked at a girl is now acting clingy and possessive? Doesn't that seem a bit suspicious to you?"
Jungkook's eyes darkened as he added, "He's got this imageโquiet, kind, innocent but we all know the truth. Quiet ones are the worst. You never see them coming. He lives with us. I know him better than you ever will. People like him don't change overnightโฆ unless they're getting some benefits out of it."
He looked her dead in the eye. "And the fact that he chose you? That out of nowhere, he's suddenly all in? Think about it, Evie. Doesn't that feel just a little too perfect?"
Evie's hands clenched at her sides. She swallowed hard, her voice shaking at first but growing steadier as she finally spoke.
"You know what I think?" she said, eyes locked on his. "I think you're insecure. You're jealous because you can never be like him. You can never be good like him. So now you're trying to twist everything. But it's pathetic. Really."
Even though her voice cracked slightly at the end, she stood her ground, surprising even herself. Her fear was still there, but for a moment, her anger was louder.
Jungkook looked at her for a long second, then let out a soft, amused chuckle. It wasn't warm. It was dark, almost chilling.
Jungkook's smirk didn't fade as he looked at Evie, his expression unreadableโcalm, mocking, and something else that made her stomach twist.
"You know, Evieโฆ" he started, his voice smooth but sharp, "then don't say I didn't warn you."
Evie stiffened, gripping the straps of Taehyung's bag in her hands.
"Warn me about what?" she asked, forcing herself to sound steady even though her pulse was racing.
Jungkook tilted his head slightly, his smirk deepening. "About Taehyung," he said simply. "But it's fine. You'll see it for yourself soon enough."
Evie's breath hitched. "You're just saying all this because you can't handle the fact that he is better than you can ever be," she shot back, trying to hold her ground.
Jungkook let out a low chuckle, shaking his head. "See, that's where you're wrong. I don't care who is better." His dark eyes held hers, amusement flickering in them. "You think he's your safe place? That he's different? That he's better than me?" He leaned in just slightly, lowering his voice. "You really are naive."
Evie clenched her jaw, refusing to let his words get to her. But he could see the tiny hesitation in her eyes. And that was enough for him.
"But you know," he continued, his voice light but laced with something dangerous, "I'll let it slide. The slap. The insults. Everything."
Her hands tightened around the bag as she forced herself to breathe evenly.
"I forgave you," Jungkook said, his smirk dropping slightly as he held her gaze. "Not because I'm kind. But because you're dumb. New to all this. You don't know what you're doing." He exhaled sharply, his jaw tightening for a brief second before his smirk returned. "So I'll let it go. This time."
The weight of his words settled in her chest like a stone.
"But next time?" Jungkookโs voice dropped lower, his smirk curling into something unreadable. "There won't be a next time."
He took a step back, his gaze lingering on her for a second longer, then turned toward the door.
Evie let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding, but before she could even process anything, Jungkook paused at the doorway.
"Enjoy this little fantasy while it lasts," he said over his shoulder, not bothering to look back. "Because it won't."
And with that, he walked out, leaving Evie standing there, shaken, confused, and more unsettled than ever.
As soon as Jungkook walked away, Evie let out a deep breath she didn't even realize she was holding. Her hands were slightly trembling around the straps of her bag. Her heart was still racing.
She tried to calm herself.
His words echoed in her headโabout letting it go, about Taehyung, about her being lucky. But none of it made sense. It felt like he was just trying to scare her, trying to mess with her head. Especially the part about Taehyung being his friend... that sounded like pure manipulation.
Evie shook her head and forced herself to walk. She didn't want to think about it anymore. She just wanted to leave. Gripping her bag a little tighter, she headed toward the exit of the classroom.
At the same time, Taehyung was walking down the hallway toward the same class. He paused when he saw Jungkook stepping out of it. His brows drew together in confusion. What is he doing here? Jungkook didn't even take this class.
Before he could think much, his eyes fell on Evie, who walked out just seconds after Jungkook. She looked a little tense, though she tried to hide it.
Taehyung frowned slightly, watching the two as he approached.
"Evie?" he called out gently.
She looked up and smiled, trying to act normal. "Hey, you're back. How was the discussion with Professor Jes?"
Taehyung gave a short nod. "It was alright. He just asked about the assignment and gave some extra notes." Then he glanced at her bag and reached out. "Here, let me take this."
"Thanks," she said softly, handing over the bag.
But Taehyung didn't let the moment pass so easily. "Why were you still in the class? I thought we agreed to meet near the exit gate. And..." He hesitated for a second. "That guy who walked outโJungkook, right? What was he doing there? Do you know him?"
Evie's heart skipped a beat, but she quickly masked her nerves. She forced a small shrug. "I think he was just looking for his friends or someone from the class. He walked in and left right after." She looked down, pretending to fix the strap of her bag. "As for me, I was just looking for something I thought I left behind. That's all."
Taehyung watched her quietly. Her tone sounded casual, but he noticed the way her eyes didn't quite meet his. There was something in her body language - tense, slightly distant.
He could tell she wasn't telling the whole truth.
But instead of pressing her, he just nodded slowly. "Alright," he said. "If you say so."
Evie gave him a soft smile, grateful he didn't ask more. They walked side by side toward the campus gate, the silence between them gentle but uncertain.
Taehyung held her bag like he always did, protective and kind.
But something inside him told him... something wasn't right.
As Taehyung and Evie walked side by side, the world around them seemed to blur for a moment. The chaos, the tension, the fearโall of it melted away under the soft warmth of his presence. Evie quietly reached out, lacing her fingers through his, needing the comfort of his touch more than words could ever express.
Her eyes looked up at him with a smile. A smile of reliefโof needing to feel safe, even just for now. Taehyung, without saying a word, gave her hand a gentle squeeze in return.
He didn't ask anything. He didn't push. He just walked beside her, matching her pace, like her silent shield. For the first time in days, Evie allowed herself to believeโjust for a momentโthat maybe things would be okay.
But not far from them, standing near the parking lot with a cigarette hanging from the edge of his lips, Jungkook watched it all unfold like a villain waiting for his cue.
His back leaned lazily against the side of a black car, arms crossed over his chest, face unreadable but those who knew him, even a little, could see the storm brewing in his eyes.
The sharp drag of the cigarette didn't calm him; it only fueled the fire burning in his chest as he watched Taehyung and Evie walk off toward the bus stop, hand in hand, like nothing had happened. Like they hadn't defied him. Like they had no idea whose pride they had crushed under their feet.
His friends stood close, laughing, joking lightly, trying to read his silence. One of them finally dared to speak. "Soโฆ that's it? You're letting them go? Letting all this slide?"
Jungkook exhaled smoke and let out a short, cold laugh. He didn't even look at his friend. His gaze stayed fixed on the couple in the distance.
"Letting it slide?" he repeated, voice low and dangerous. "You think I'm the kind of person who lets anything slide?"
His friend stayed quiet now. Everyone did. They knew better.
Jungkook pushed himself off the car, throwing the cigarette to the ground and crushing it with his shoe. "They both hit my pride. Do you know what that means?" he asked slowly, like he was explaining something to a child.
"Taehyung broke years of friendship for a girl he barely knowsโฆ and she? She dared to humiliate me. Slapped me in front of everyone. Insulted me like I was beneath her. And now look at them... acting like a cute little couple like they're living some fairy tale, walking off into the sunset, like they never crossed a line."
He laughed again, but this time there was no humor in it.
"Let them be happy for now," he said, eyes still locked in the direction where they'd gone. "Let them hold hands, share smiles, live in that little dream world of theirs. Because dreams don't last."
He turned to his friends now, finally meeting their eyes.
"It was just a slap, right?" he asked. "Just a slap." Then his voice turned cold. "But it's never just about a slap. It's about pride. My pride. And nobody destroys that and walks away smiling."
Jungkook's eyes darkened further, his tone sharper now, deadly calm. "I'll show them what it means to go against me. What it means to defy Jeon Jungkook."
He took a slow step forward, his voice almost a whisper now. "The same hand she raised to slap me? I'll make sure the only thing it ever rises for now... is to beg. Beg me to stop. Beg me for mercy."
The silence that followed was thick and unsettling.
His friend grinned, trying to lighten the mood but only adding to the tension. "Damnโฆ been a while since we had real entertainment."
Jungkook looked ahead again, a wicked smirk playing on his lips.
"Then let's begin," he said. "Let's give her a lesson in what happens when you try to destroy someone like me."
