Evie couldn't believe it.
Not only had this arrogant jerk just rated her like she was some contestant in a beauty pageant, but he had done it so casuallyโso effortlessly, like it didn't even cross his mind that he had just insulted her entire existence.
And now he was standing there, looking at her with a mix of irritation and boredom, like she was the one wasting his time.
She blinked, trying to process everything. Then, in pure disbelief, she asked, "What the hell did you just say?"
Jungkook let out an exaggerated sigh, rubbing his temple as if she were giving him a headache. "Are you deaf or just slow?" he muttered, shaking his head. "I said, I'm not interested in you. So stop coming up with these pathetic excuses to get my attention."
Evie's jaw dropped.
"Desperate?" she repeated, her voice rising.
Jungkook scoffed. "Yes, desperate. Obviously."
He gestured at her like the answer was right in front of them. "First, you bump into me out of nowhere, claiming you 'lost your way' to class when you're literally in your final year. And now, suddenly, you can't find the staff room and somehow end up here?" He gave her an unimpressed look. "Come on. At least try to make your excuses believable."
Evie just stood there, her mouth opening and closing.
Was this guy for real?
She was so shocked and stunned. "Wait. Hold on. You think I'm doing all of this for your attention?"
Jungkook crossed his arms. "I don't think. I know."
Evie gawked at him.
Then she blurted out the only logical explanation for this madness. "Are you drunk?"
Jungkook frowned. "What?"
"Or maybe high?" Evie continued. "Because I swear, only someone completely wasted would talk this much bullshit with a straight face."
Jungkook's expression darkened.
But Evie wasn't done. "The level of delusion you have is actually insane. I mean, seriously, how the hell did you come to this conclusion? Do you even hear yourself? Or is your ego so massive that it blocks out all logic?"
Jungkook let out a humorless chuckle. "Oh, look at you. You've got some fight in you after all," he mocked.
Evie rolled her eyes. "Whatever," she muttered. "For your information, I actually did get lost. Because, believe it or not, I'm new here. Not that I owe you an explanation, but unlike some people, I don't have the entire school layout downloaded in my head."
Jungkook let out another scoff, looking at her like she had just told the dumbest joke in history. "New student? In the middle of the semester? In final year?" He shook his head, laughing under his breath. "Girl, stop embarrassing yourself and just admit it. You suck at making excuses."
Evie clenched her fists. "It's not an excuse. I literally transferred here a few weeks ago."
Jungkook gave her a lazy, unimpressed look. "Mhm. Sure."
He tilted his head, eyeing her up and down again before sighing dramatically. "Honestly, if you're gonna throw yourself at me, at least try to put in some effort first. Work on your looks, maybe? You really think a guy like me would go forโฆ" He waved his hand in her direction. "This?"
Evie's entire body locked up.
"This?" she repeated in disbelief.
Jungkook continued like he hadn't just casually insulted her entire existence again. "I mean, come on, jeans and a sweater? That's what you chose? So plain. So boring. So basic."
Evie felt her eye twitch.
"I get it," Jungkook went on, shrugging. "Not everyone can be naturally hot. But at least try, y'know? Maybe do some effort before expecting a guy like me to notice you."
Evie was so stunned she could barely even react.
Was this really happening?
Was he seriously standing here, insulting her, roasting her entire outfit, and then giving her fashion advice on how to seduce him!
To seduce him?!!
He must have mistaken her silence for acceptance because he nodded to himself, like he had just given her valuable life advice. "Yeah. Do that. Then maybeโmaybeโI'd consider looking at you twice."
Evie blinked.
Then blinked again.
And for the first time in her life, she truly understood what it meant to be speechless.
Jungkook let out a sigh, shaking his head like this whole situation was beneath him. He turned away from her, walking back to the table to collect his things.
"Just accept it already," he said, shoving a water bottle into his bag. His voice was casual, unaffected, as if they weren't even having an argument.
"You're embarrassing yourself at this point. It's fine, really. You're not the first girl to get rejected by me, and you definitely won't be the last." He zipped up his bag, slinging it over his shoulder before throwing her a glance. "I already have enough girls around meโI don't need a desperate one on top of that."
Evie still hadn't moved. She stood in the exact same spot, her arms crossed over her chest, her mouth slightly parted, her eyes wide with disbelief.
It should have been funnyโwatching someone so stunned, so lost for words. But for some reason, it almost annoyed Jungkook.
What? She expected a different answer? Expected him to suddenly care?
He scoffed, rolling his eyes as he stepped forward to leave. "Move."
But before he could brush past her, Evie moved first.
She stepped right into his path, standing firmly in front of him, blocking his way.
Jungkook halted abruptly, surprised by the sudden shift. He raised an eyebrow at her, waiting for her to step aside. But she didn't.
Instead, she tilted her head, glaring up at him, her face now burning with anger.
"How," she started, her voice low, controlled but dripping with fury, "are you this full of yourself?"
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, clearly not used to being questioned.
"You seriously think I was trying to get your attention?" she continued, incredulous. "That's amusing. No, really. The level of delusion is impressive." She nodded mockingly. "But let's be clear โif I wanted attention, it sure as hell wouldn't be from you."
Jungkook let out a short laugh, shaking his head. "Right, because bumping into me twice was just an accident?"
Evie blinked. "You think I planned this? You think I sat down, mapped out a strategy, and said, 'You know what? Today, I'm gonna make a fool of myself just to get noticed by some guy who looks like he spends more time fixing his hair than studying?'"
Jungkook's smirk twitched slightly.
Evie crossed her arms. "You're acting like I showed up with a resume and a cover letter applying to be your girlfriend. Meanwhile, you're standing here rating me like some discount reality show judge." She let out a mock laugh. "I mean, do you do this with every girl you meet, or am I just special?"
Jungkook scoffed, but Evie didn't give him a chance to respond.
"And let's talk about that for a second," she said, tilting her head. "What kind of guy walks around acting like every girl in a tenโmile radius is desperate for him? You're not a celebrity. This isn't a fan meet. I don't even know why I'm wasting my breath explaining something so obvious, but let me make this crystal clear: I don't want you. I don't want your attention. And I sure as hell don't need your opinion."
Jungkook's jaw tightened slightly, but Evie wasn't done.
"I mean, seriously. Are you okay? Like, genuinely? Do you need a doctor? Because this level of ego can't be healthy. You might wanna get that checked." She said "Maybe drink some water. Go outside. Touch some grass."
Jungkook exhaled sharply through his nose, clearly irritated now.
"And one last thing," she added, shifting the books in her hands . "Since you're so obsessed with 'accepting reality,' here's is also for you thatโnot every girl wants you. Some of us just have the misfortune of being in the same room as you."
Jungkook felt a slow, simmering frustration rise inside him. He wasn't used to this.
People didn't talk to him like this. Girls didn't challenge him. They sought his attention, wanted his validation. But this girlโshe had the fucking audacity to walk into his space, not once, but twice, act like she wanted his attention, and now that he had rejected her, she suddenly wanted to play the victim?
The sheer nerve of it made his jaw clench.
His grip tightened on the strap of his bag as he exhaled sharply. "Enough with this bullshit," he snapped. "Just shut up and don't waste my time I have to go to my practice."
Evie folding her arms as she glared at him. "Trust me, I have no interest in talking to you," she shot back, her voice laced with frustration. "But I'm not going to stand here and let some self-obsessed, arrogant guy judge me like he knows anything about me."
Jungkook scoffed, his lips twisting into a smirk, though the irritation was evident in his eyes. "Oh, so now you're hurt? What, saying the truth is wrong now?" He leaned slightly closer, voice mocking. "Did I hit a nerve?"
Evie didn't even flinch. "There's a difference between saying the truth and being judgmental," she said sharply. "And you? You don't speak truth, you spit out shallow, baseless opinions and call it honesty."
Jungkook's smirk faded just a little.
"I know I'm not perfect," she continued, her eyes steady. "Nobody is. But here's the thingโI don't need to be. And I sure as hell don't need your validation or your opinions about my looks, my actions, or anything else."
Jungkook's jaw tightened.
"You might think you're better than everyone else," she went on without thinking twice, "but at the end of the day, you're just another insecure guy who needs to put others down to feel good about himself."
And with that, she turned on her heel, not giving him the chance to speak.
Jungkook stood there, completely stunned, his pride stinging in a way he wasn't used to.
By the time he found his voice, she was already gone.
What the actual fuck!
He stood there, dumbfounded, still processing what had just happened. No one had ever spoken to him like that beforeโespecially not some random girl who had barged into his space twice in one day.
His jaw clenched as irritation bubbled in his chest. She had acted like she was the victim, like he had wronged her, when in reality, she was the one making excuses, walking into places she clearly didn't belong, and then throwing a fit when he told her the truth.
He was just being honestโwas that so hard to handle?
Pathetic dramatic idiot.
Just as he was about to storm after her, a voice from behind him made him pause.
A low chuckle echoed from the corner of the room.
"Well, that was entertaining."
Jungkook turned to see his friend, who had been changing his clothes in the back, now watching him with an amused smirk. Clearly, he had heard everything.
The guy shook his head, grinning. "Damn, she really had the guts to talk back to you like that. Never thought I'd see the day when Jeon Jungkook was left speechless."
Jungkook scowled, his mood only worsening. "She wasn't talking back. She was making a fool of herself."
His friend raised an eyebrow. "Oh yeah?"
Jungkook ran a hand through his hair, still fuming. "She walked into me twice. The first time, she bumped into me like some clueless idiot, saying she couldn't find her class and asked me to guide her. Guide her like I'm some damn tour guide. And now, she just walks into the sports room, claiming she didn't know it wasn't the staff room? Who the hell doesn't know the layout of their own college by now? It's mid-semester. And she's a final-year student. Either she's dumb or just desperate for attention."
His friend let out another amused chuckle, shaking his head.
Jungkook scoffed. "I already told her I wasn't interested. If she's gonna be desperate, she should at least try harder. And then she dares to act like I'm the bad guy just because I told her the truth? Please."
His friend leaned against the bench, crossing his arms. "Wellโฆ to be fair, she is actually a new student."
Jungkook's brows furrowed. "What?"
"Yeah, she transferred in recently." His friend shrugged. "She was in the science batch, same as me. Her dad got an urgent job transfer, so she had to move here in the middle of the semester."
Jungkook's expression hardened. He poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue, clearly unimpressed. "Bullshit. Colleges don't just admit final-year students in the middle of the semester. That's not how it works."
His friend smirked. "Believe whatever you want. You can check for yourself if you don't trust me."
Jungkook let out a dry scoff, still not convinced. He didn't feel even a sliver of guilt for what he had said earlier.
No. Why should he? She had challenged him first, spat nonsense at him, and acted like he was some villain for simply speaking the truth.
She wasn't anything specialโjust another overconfident girl who thought she could stand up to him. And if she thought she could get away with it, she had another thing coming.
His friend, on the other hand, seemed thoroughly entertained. "Honestly, what did you expect? If you go around judging random girls, rating them, and acting like your opinion is the only one that matters, of course, they're gonna react like that." He grinned. "Not gonna lie, thoughโher pissedโoff reaction was hilarious."
Jungkook was still standing there, jaw clenched, irritation boiling in his chest, when his friend let out an exasperated sigh, breaking him out of his thoughts.
"Let it go, man. We're already super late for practice," his friend reminded him, throwing his duffel bag over his shoulder. "This isn't even worth your time. She's newโdoesn't know who we are, doesn't know who you are. Give it a few days, and she'll figure it out. Once she does, she'll back off on her own."
Jungkook exhaled sharply through his nose, still feeling the sting of annoyance from the whole encounter. His friend was right. That girl wasn't worth a second thought. She was just some clueless transfer student who had no idea how things worked around here. Once she realized where she stood, she'd know better than to cross him again.
"Yeah," Jungkook muttered under his breath, shaking his head. "She's not worth it. Just some overconfident idiot."
His friend chuckled, giving him a light pat on the shoulder. "Exactly. So let's go before we get in trouble. We're already late, and I don't feel like running extra laps because of this nonsense."
Jungkook let out a huff, rolling his shoulders to shake off the lingering irritation. "Yeah, let's go. I've wasted enough time on this dumbass already."
As they walked toward the practice hall, Jungkook scoffed, still unable to let go of the annoyance completely. "Seriously, how the hell does this college even admit people like that? Do they have no standards? Just letting any middle-class dumbhead waltz in and ruin the atmosphere?"
His friend laughed at Jungkook's frustration but didn't bother responding. He knew Jungkook had high standards for everything. And anyone who didn't meet them wasn't worth acknowledging in his eyes.
By the time they neared the practice hall, they realized just how late they were. Normally, Jungkook was one of the first to arrive-dedicated, disciplined, and never the one to make excuses. But today, because of her, he had lost track of time. And now he was about to walk in late, something he never did.
As soon as he stepped inside, the sound of a whistle blowing sharply cut through the air.
Jungkook barely had time to process before a familiar voice rang out in mock amusement.
"Well, well, look who finally decided to show up."
Jungkook's gaze snapped toward the source of the voice, and sure enough, Taehyung was standing there with a smirk on his face, arms crossed over his chest.
"You're late, Jeon," Taehyung continued, shaking his head in exaggerated disappointment. "You do realize you're the one who always lectures everyone else about being on time, right? What happened? The great Jungkook actually lost track of time?"
Jungkook clenched his jaw, his earlier frustration now mixing with fresh irritation. He didn't have the patience for Taehyung's teasing right now.
His friend, however, found it hilarious, laughing under his breath. "Yeah, tell him, Tae. This is history in the making."
Jungkook rolled his eyes, letting out a sharp breath. "Shut up. Let's just get started already."
But even as he pushed the entire incident aside and focused on practice.
โ
Evie stormed out of the sports room, her hands clenched into fists at her sides, her chest rising and falling with the force of her emotions. Humiliation, anger, frustrationโeverything swirled inside her, making it hard to breathe.
How dare he?
Her jaw tightened as she replayed the scene in her head, his arrogant words echoing in her mind. The way he had looked at her, the condescending tone in his voiceโhe had acted like she was beneath him, like she was some desperate fool seeking his attention.
What the hell does he think of himself?
If his father weren't on the college board, she might have slapped him right then and there. That thought alone made her even angrier. People like himโspoiled, self-obsessed, walking around with their heads held high as if the world revolved around themโalways got away with everything.
Her good mood was completely ruined. Just earlier, she had been having a great time with Taehyung, laughing, enjoying herself, and now thisโall because of him.
She exhaled sharply, forcing herself to calm down. She had no choice but to stay away from him now. Getting into an argument with someone like Jungkook was a waste of time. He had power, influence, and an ego too big to reason with. The best thing she could do was ignore him and never let him have the satisfaction of seeing her react again.
At least she was proud of herself for holding back. She had wanted to curse him out, throw his arrogance right back in his face, but she had managed to control herself. Not for his sake - he didn't deserve that restraint but for her own peace of mind.
With a heavy sigh, she made her way toward the library, alone. Mia was absent today, and Taehyung was busy with football practice.
Great. What a wonderful way to end the day.
She had started her morning with excitement, expecting nothing but a peaceful, productive day. Instead, she got this her mood wrecked by a guy who wasn't even worth her time.
