Chapter Twelve
06:09, 30 June 2018Veronica stepped into the nurses office looking down at the cold face girl. Her hair tangled up with grease, her mascara stained sleeves, and her yellow skirt bunched up. "Mac? You awake?" She sat down on the edge of the bed.
Heather's eyes opened slowly to see Veronica. "W-what?"
"I'll take that as a yes." She chuckled before returning to a serious state. "The nurse thinks you passed out from lack of hydration. Which I could see. But you still haven't told me the full story, wether what you said was true or not, I'd still like to know everything else."
"Just give me five more minutes." Mac shoved her away and closed her eyes.
"Oh okay." Veronica couldn't help but laugh. She stood up and walked out of the room only to see Martha. "Martha?"
"Oh. Hey, Veronica." She half smiled, clutching a textbook to her chest.
"How you've been? It feels like it's been forever since we last spoke." She smiled.
"Oh yeah, I've had a lot of school work. I guess." She felt a warm breath on the back of her neck.
"Martha Dumptruck and Veronica." Heather Duke popped her hip with a fake dorky grin. She walked around to the side of each of them then stopped to face Veronica. "How many times have a told you not talk or even set foot by this dumptruck?"
"Heather-" Veronica groaned.
"No. I don't want to fucking hear it." Duke turned around to Martha with a forced smile and pointed her finger to signal her off. Martha proceeded to leave sighing. "Now,"
"Heather, I've had enough with you. All you do is ruin everyone's lives! When are you going to realize how much of a bitch you are?"
"Veronica, quit acting like you can stand up for yourself and others, because you can't. Once I leave you're just going to go to your locker, grab your diary and start complaining how much life sucks. And don't tell me that's not what you do because it is. I've seen what you've written in your diary and I'm quite offended at some of the things you wrote." She began to walk away leaving Veronica standing there vulnerable.
Veronica hesitated for a second as Duke walked away. It took her all of her energy to not slap her right across the face. She huffed and turned around back into the nurse's office. She placed a fake smile on before walking in. "Hey, how are you feeling?"
"Better than before." She shrugged.
"Do you feel well enough to go back to class?"
"I guess so." Mac sighed, leaning back up. Ronnie held her arm out so she could grab it for balance.
"I'll walk you to class." She smiled.
"No, it's alright. I can walk myself."
"Are you sure?" She raised her eyebrows.
"Yes, I'm sure." She nodded.
"Heather, I don't think you realized this, but you just passed out like an hour ago. Maybe it's best if I walk you."
"Veronica, I'll be okay." Heather then began walking in the other direction.
After school Veronica sat at her desk writing in her diary at a rapid pace. She blew a piece of hair out of her face in annoyance.
"Veronica, you have a visitor!" Her mother yelled from downstairs.
"Coming!" She threw her diary down and crossed her arms, making her way down the stairs. "Who is it- Heather?" She looked her up and down.
McNamara stepped over to Ronnie and wrapped her arms around her, bursting into tears. "I-I"m so sorry." She trembled. Her whole body shook and her hands were ice cold, but her forehead was burning up.
"Oh my god, what happened?" She asked but there was no response. "Heather, please tell me what happned. You know you can tell me anything." She motioned to her mom to help out.
Mrs. Sawyer ushered the two girls to sit on the couch and made up a pot of coffee in the kitchen.
Heather shook her head in fright. She couldn't say. She was afraid of getting in trouble.
"Heather." The girl in blue sat down on the couch with Mac right next to her.
"I-I'll get in trouble." She looked down at her lap.
"Now why would you get in trouble?" Mrs. Sawyer chimed in carrying three cups of coffee. She handed them their cups before taking a sip from hers.
"I just would, okay?" Mac began crying again.
Ronnie wrapped her arm around Heather, picked up the cup of coffee and took a sip. "Why can't you tell me what happened?"
"Because I tried to kill my mom," She mumbled under her breath
"Wait, you what?" Veronica sat up choking on her drink. She couldn't believe what she had heard. Out of all people Heather McNamara was the one to try to kill someone. ~~~~~What a fun chapter...
