JINGLE OF THE keys was heard as you unlocked the door with a click and stepped inside of your apartment only to find it dark and deserted.
That's weird.
You closed the door slowly behind you, which made a creaking noise before getting shut. Everything is extra loud today. You thought.
"Mom?Dad?" you called as you slowly took your shoes off and walked further into the house.
You squinted your eyes at the blinding darkness, trying to adjust your vision to it.
Opening your phone, you turned the flash light on, "Anyone there?" you tried, but again, you were left with nothing but the deafening silence.
You walked towards the living room, opened the lights and found it empty, then you headed towards the kitchen and again, no one was there.
You turned on the lights.
Click.
Your eyes took in to the emptiness and silence of the place— your stomach, however couldn't bear it so it decided to growl, the sound felt extremely loud in the pin drop silence. "Thank Goodness that no one's here, " you heaved a sigh as you talked to yourself which you usually did, "Would've been kind of embarassing."
Should've eaten well before leaving the house.
You approached towards the fridge.
"Huh?"
There was note stuck to the refrigerator's door which said;
We went to drop Aunt Yuriko to her house and might stay there for a few minutes, you can have the tempora and miso soup in the fridge if you feel hungry.
Expect us to be back before 8:00pm.
LoveYour cool parents
Ps: If by any chance we forget, do not forget to remind us that we need to meet Baji on the dining table for the dinner tomorrow ;)
Your face suddenly felt hot as you read the last sentence and rolled your eyes while smiling at your weird, yet amazing parents.
You decided to take a quick shower to wash off all the dirt which stuck onto you and your clothes while training, and sweat which loved you. The feeling was not mutual.
You made your way back to the kitchen, feeling relaxed as your took out the leftover food and heated it.
The dishes clattered loudly in the silent house when you placed them on the dining table, quietly having dinner all by yourself.
You finished your dinner in a few minutes then you fixated your eyes to the clock in front of you which ticked 8:05pm.
Since there was absolutely nothing to do, you placed the dishes in the sink and washed them, setting them aside nearly.
Quite a lot of minutes passed, the clock now ticked 8:40pm and your parents had still not returned. That's strange.
You picked up your phone and tried to call them.
One time.
Two times.
Three times.
Four times.
Nobody responded, neither your dad nor your mom, causing an uneasy feeling to settle inside your stomach. Why are you getting nervous? Maybe their phone is on silent.
Maybe they decided to stay for some more time at aunt Yuriko's house.
You gave all sort of excuses to yourself, but the eerie feels still didn't leave you. It clung onto you even tighter than before as the clock fully ticked 9:00pm now.
You seated yourself on the dining table.
"They'll come." you assured yourself.
9:00pm turned into 10:00pm and then 10:00pm turned into 11:00pm but no one responded to your calls. The bleakness and the silence was now getting suffocating.
Your stomach churned in anxiety. Stop worrying me.
Suddenly the blaring sound from the telephone shook you to the core. The flame of hope flickered inside you. They are going to be here.
You sprinted towards the telephone and picked it up quickly, with shaky hands.
"Hello?" came a voice from the other side which you didn't recognise.
"He-hello?" you replied. Why would someone call you this late? Probably a wrong number.
"Is it L/N residence?" he inquired.
Nevermind.
"Yeah, it is."
"Is your father's name F/N L/N and your mother's name is M/N L/N?" he asked which a serious tone.
"Y-yeah, that's correct." you twiddled with the wire of the device as your heart began beating wildly inside your chest. They will come.
The flame flickered.
They will come.
"I know its of no use but, please listen to this news calmly," He hesitated causing your heart to drop in your stomach for an unknown reason, "I'm very sorry to Inform you but your parents have lost their Iives in a very tragic car accident." the raging heartbeat suddenly stopped as a shiver ran through you despite the pleasantly warm weather.
"No.." you whispered.
"I'm very sorry." was all that guy said.
"You're lying!" you yelled over the phone, "YOU'RE LYING!"
"Listen ma--" you disconnected the phone call by slammed it harshly on the device.
"Prank calls these days!" you say with a heavy exhale.
A prank call. Yes, that's what it was. I saw them, they were just here a few hours ago. Laughing, chatting, cracking jokes. Someone is messing with me.
"He was just playing around," you reassured yourself, "I mean didn't they leave you the note?" you chuckled to yourself. That's right they left me a note... So they will come, I know they will.
The pranks these days are too cruel.
You returned to your previous spot, which was the dining table, "All, I need to do is now wait."
You decided to leave a few more text messages to your dad:
Y/N: I wonder how long are you going to take, dad!
Y/N: Return quickly.
Y/N: You know how much I hate the dark right? Now hurry up and ask mom to stop talking with aunt Yuriko and come back home quickly, she has rest of the life to talk to her. *Laughing emoji*
You shut your phone off and waited.
One hour passed.
They will come.
Your leg began bounce as you fiddled with your phone.
Four hours passed.
A faint headache began to envade.
They will come.
The sun began to rise up as your head began to sink down on the table out of exhaustion, dark circles graced the beneath of your eyes as you waited. Waited for hours, waited until the pain on your back became unbearable, but you waited.
And the result?
No one came.
The flickering flame finally extinguished.
