Chapter 32
04:16, 28 November 2023Blake could hear muttering, or something. It sounded so distant, so familiar. The voice was calm, desperate, saddening.
"Blake, please come back to us, please. I can't live without you" the voice repeated over and over again.
Blake realized that it was a male speaking, it was relaxing, comforting. She felt a pain in the back of her head that wasn't there before. The kind of pain that feels like forever. She tries to open her eyes, but she couldn't. Her body wasn't going to let her, she was too weak. She felt chained to the bed, she wanted to respond to the voice, but couldn't. A force was pulling her back into her unconsciousness. She is able to open her mouth, letting out a small breath. Just like that, she fell back into the black pit of horror and violence.
What felt like only a few minutes, Blake's body finally let her willingly open her eyes. She could see rows of fluorescent lights above her. The brightness of them hurt her eyes, tears slowly escaped down to her cheeks.
"Blake?" The male voice from before spoke, she felt her eyes water even more. She knew the voice, It pained her so. She couldn't turn her head to look at the warm sea green eyes that she adored and felt like home. She feels his hand in hers, she doesn't make a sound. The blonde haired boy stands up to see her face.
"It's ok Blake, it's ok, I've got you. You're safe now, it's all over. The games are over." He lets a few tears fall down his face as well. They cry and comfort each other until a nurse arrives to check in on Blake.
"Looks like she finally awoke. I was starting to get worried we would have to pull the plug. One more night and she would've been up there" The dark curly haired nurse giggles. Blake's eyes widened. She sits up fast, ignoring the dizzy feeling she gains.
"What do you mean?" Blake questions, her brain was thinking faster than she could speak.
"Well victor, we were told to-, how do I put this nicely? Let you go if you didn't wake up within 4 weeks after the games. Thankfully, you had one day to spare," She smiles joyfully. The nurse replaces the old morphine bag with a new one that is connected to Blake. Blake's jaw drops with astonishment, they really didn't give her any time to recover. She looks over at Finnick who is still astonished that she woke up.
"So, what happens now? Do we get to go home?" Blake asks concerningly. Finnick's eyes are now bright sea green, the tears have given them a bright glow.
He sniffs, "Uhm, you have to be crowned in front of the capital. You return home for a short time. Afterwards, we go on a victor tour. Soon after that, you can go home." Blake tilts her head with confusion.
"What do you mean 'you'? You'll come home with me right?" she grips his hand for security. Finnick inhales slowly, not knowing how to respond to the question.
"I can only come with you for the victory tour, the President needs me to stay a bit longer. Eventually, I'll be back in the district" he looks down at his shoes and wipes the tears from his face with his sleeves. There is something he is hiding from Blake, he's not telling the full truth, maybe it's because the nurse is in the room.
"When is the crowning ceremony?" Blake's voice cracks. She just wanted everything to be over. She imagines being surrounded by the people of district 4 on the beach with several campfires. The coziness is gone when the nurse begins to speak.
"The doctor will check up with you and he will determine when you can leave and continue your celebration. Congratulations, Miss Grey" she nods and leaves the room. Blake curls up in a fetal position on the bed. Finnick rubs her back slowly.
"I can't believe it's over. It still feels like I'm in the arena, forced to kill the innocent. Everyone that I got to know during this is gone. They're all gone" The tears appear back on her face.
"You are a survivor, you've won. You're a victor now. You're safe now" Finnick comforts.
"Then why don't I feel like one? I watched everyone in that arena die. I know how all of them died. Is that a win?" She stares at the wall in front of her, not a thought running through her mind. It was all just empty, gone. She felt different than before, maybe it was just the morphine talking. The only word to describe what she was feeling was,
nothing...
