"Yo, why are dressed like a hooker?" Nate scoffed as he looked over Maddy's outfit. He was thankful Adaline had the decency to dress appropriately.

"What?" Maddy asked confused looking down at her clothes.

"Jesus Christ, Maddy. I'm here with my parents."

"So what? It's the carnival." She rolled her eyes. "I'm sure Adaline wore something revealing too."

"No. It's the chili cook off. It's very important." Nate said clenching his fists. "And don't bring Addie into this. She didn't dress like a slut like you. I can't have you hanging out at the booth dressed like that."

"Yeah, well maybe the chili will sell better with me dressed like this."

"Yo, this isn't a fucking joke, okay?" Nate said getting in Maddy's face.

"Why are you being like this?" The dark haired girl asked.

"Listen, my parents already don't like you. Why can't you just be normal for once?"

"What?" Maddy couldn't believe he was being such a dick. She thought her outfit was cute.

"Go home, get changed, and come back looking like a person. Maybe take some inspiration from Adaline. My parents love her." Nate said turning and walking away from an upset Maddy.

Nate could see that his dad had been watching him as he made his way back to the booth. He sighed trying to compose himself. All he wanted to do was grab Adaline, pin her up against a wall, and have his way with her. She always calmed him down. He didn't even need to fuck her he just needed her to hold him and tell him everything was going to be fine. But he knew he couldn't do that especially not with her still being mad at him.

"Well, did you break up again?" Cal asked his son.

"No." Nate replied sitting down next to Adaline.

"Looks like you broke up again." Aaron laughed.

"No, we didn't." Nate tried to avoid looking at Adaline. He knew he promised her he'd break up with Maddy but it wasn't that easy.

"If you ask me, she's a distraction." Cal went on. "Especially now that Adaline's pregnant. You need to focus on her and the baby."

"Uh-oh. Mr. Jacobs." McKay shouted walking over to the booth.

Adaline smiled. She hadn't seen McKay since his party. Adaline noticed that Cassie was with him and smiled even wider. She thought the two made a cute couple. Adaline was happy that Cassie finally found someone that respected her and treated her the way she deserved to be treated.

"Oh! Stingray McKay." Cal called back moving around the booth to hug McKay.

"I see you... I see what you got going on over here." McKay said motioning to the chili.

"All right, chili."

"Let me get some." McKay nodded. Adaline got up and scooped some chili into a little cup for him. "Thanks Addie."

"Yo, what's up, brother?" Nate hugged McKay.

"How you doin', man?" McKay asked.

"Yo. What are you? Are you guys, like, in a relationship?" Adaline wanted to strangle Nate. Why would he ask that? He knows they've been hanging out.

"Nah, we're just chillin'." McKay replied causing Adaline to sigh and massage her forehead. She could tell by the look on Cassie's face that she was upset.

"Are you just chillin'?" Nate asked with a smirk looking from Cassie back to McKay.

"Yeah, we're chillin'."

"Okay. Okay." Nate laughed.

"Why haven't I seen you on the field?" Cal cut into the conversation.

"Uh.... Just freshmen got to earn their due, that's all." McKay shrugged.

"You take that attitude, you'll spend the rest of your life on the bench." Adaline rolled her eyes walking around the booth to stand next to Nate. She mouthed 'are you okay?' to Cassie receiving a slight nod in return. She knew Cassie was lying but she wasn't going to push her.

"It's really not that big of a deal, Mr. Jacobs. It's just the first season." McKay explained.

"No, it is a big deal. You got one of the best slide steps I've ever seen. You've got promise. You've got talent. You're not pushing yourself hard enough." Cal continued not letting it go.

"Dad, I think McKay's gonna be just fine." Nate spoke up noticing how uncomfortable his friend was getting.

"I'm just trying to help him keep a girl like her." He said motioning towards Cassie.

"Why? It's not like we're in a relationship. Plus, I don't even care about football." Cassie snapped back. Adaline turned her head trying to hide her smirk. She was proud of Cassie for standing up for herself. Plus Cal needed to be brought down a peg or two.

"Whoa. It's not just football. It's life. It's about maintaining your focus. It's about putting your all into everything you do. Why do you think I have the business I have? Why do think I have the family I have? The success that I have? Why do think this chili has been voted best chili in the county five years in a row?" Adaline rolled her eyes as she listened to Cal's rant.

"Cause you refuse to lose." Aaron yelled from inside the booth.

"No. It's about who you want to become in the world. I'm just lookin' out for you." Cal finished as Cassie stomped away.

"Bye." Nate laughed. Adaline jabbed her elbow into Nate's side giving him a stern look.

"Cassie!" McKay called watching her retreating figure.

"What the fuck is her problem?" Nate asked.

"Come on, bro." McKay sighed.

"You're such an ass." Adaline said to Nate before turning to McKay. "Go after her and tell her that you're sorry!"

Adaline walked back over and sat next to Aaron. She watched McKay run off hopefully to go and find Cassie. Adaline didn't get why he just didn't tell the truth about them being together. He shouldn't care what Nate or anyone else thought.

"Can we talk?" Nate said sitting down on the other side of Adaline.

"Not here. And there's nothing to talk about unless you all of a sudden figured out what you want." She replied shortly.

"I want you. That's all I want Ads." He whispered in her ear. Normally this would give Adaline butterflies and have her a blushing mess but not this time. She promised herself she wouldn't give into him.

"You can't have both Maddy and I. I'm not going to be the other woman. And I'm not going to sit and watch you be in a relationship with her while I wait for you. You either man up and leave her or just forget about me." She responded.

"Ads-" He trailed off not knowing what to say.

"And you saying you want me doesn't help answer my questions about wanting the baby. We're a package now. If you want to be with me then you need to accept the fact that you're going to be a father."

"I know." Nate sighed looking over Adaline's features. He knew he loved her and wanted to be with her. But he also loved Maddy even through all of the fighting and breaking up. He couldn't just up and leave her.

"Excuse me, sir." A voice said breaking Nate out of his thoughts. His breath caught in his throat when he realized who the voice belonged to.

"Hmm? Hi. Can I help you?" Cal stuttered.

Adaline shot Nate a glance as she noticed his body stiffen. It was like he was waiting for something to happen.

"Uh, can I please have a small cup of chili?" Jules asked. Cal nodded scooping some chili into one of the small cups Marsha handed him. "Hey Adaline!" Jules smiled greeting the brunette.

"Hey!" She awkwardly smiled back. It was hard looking Jules in the eye after watching the tape of her and Cal. Adaline didn't know how to act around the blonde.

"Oh. Shoot. Sorry." Cal apologized for spilling the cup of chili while attempting to hand it to Jules. His hands were shaking terribly. Both Nate and Adaline noticed it.

"Uh, it... it's okay. It was my fault." Jules apologized looking at something behind her. Adaline and Nate both followed her line of sight noticing Rue in the distance standing in between two trailers watching the interaction. The two teenagers knew that only meant one thing. Jules told Rue.

"I'll get you another cup." Cal said quickly scooping more chili into a cup. Jules gave Marshaย  her money before leaving the booth with the small cup of chili in her hands.

"Yo, who was that?" Aaron asked looking at his brother and Adaline.

"Her name's Jules. She's new here. She's really nice." Adaline replied watching Cal try to calm himself down.

"She goes to East Highland?"

"Yeah. She's a junior." Nate nodded also watching his father.

"Damn. That's jailbait. That's too bad." Aaron chuckled.

Adaline couldn't help but think there was something seriously wrong with all of the Jacobs' men. Why were they all obsessed with Jules? First Cal fucks and secretly records her. Then Nate catfishes her and now Aaron is interested in her. The poor girl was like a magnet for creeps.
