Jashin Sama

09:24, 21 December 2024

Today was a slow day. I was working on the day's paperwork, which I needed to drop off at the Hokage's office. Other than that, I've been relatively free lately. I've noticed a pattern in the workflow-the first half of the month tends to be busy, while the second half slows down, leaving little work to do.

As I finished organizing the files, I sensed Shikaku flaring his chakra. Curious, I headed to his office, where I found him seated and looking relaxed. He gestured for me to sit down, and I could tell he wanted to talk about something important.

"Sen," Shikaku began, his tone conversational, "how's work going for you?"

I smiled and replied, "I'm content with the work, Shikaku-san."

He nodded before continuing, "I wanted to ask-do you want to continue this job, or are you considering leaving?"

The question surprised me, but I responded honestly. "I'd like to keep working here if that's okay with you."

A small smile appeared on his face, and he looked genuinely pleased. "I'm glad to hear that. It's not easy to find someone as capable as you or Kyori. I'm impressed with your dedication-it seems like you truly enjoy the work."

His words made me happy. Knowing I had his approval felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders.

Shikaku then added, "Even if you continue working here, the village might need your fuinjutsu skills in the field occasionally. There could be missions where you'll need to accompany other teams when necessary. Don't worry; these missions will match your skill level."

I nodded in agreement. "I'd be glad to help in the field, but my priority will remain the office work."

---

Two weeks later, I received an official summon from the Hokage through Okami Taichu. The urgency in the message left me wondering what it could be about, but I knew I'd find out soon enough.

When I entered Minato-sama's office, I immediately sensed the tension in the air. The room was filled with shinobi-many of them ANBU. Seeing so many high-ranking shinobi in one place was intimidating. Chūnin like me were rarely, if ever, involved in such meetings.

I scanned the room with my sensing abilities and recognized more than half of the ANBU present. Despite their masks, I could feel familiar chakras. Minato himself looked unusually serious, his demeanor colder than usual.

"Sen," he began, his voice calm yet commanding, "we might need your help in a very dangerous and critical situation."

A chill ran down my spine. I wasn't ready for high-ranking missions, especially one that seemed this serious. The ANBU present were all jōnin-level shinobi, and I felt completely out of place among them.

Minato started, "For the last few weeks, we've been having trouble with an S-rank rogue shinobi who seems to be some kind of immortal."

I started thinking and realized that the canon story had a lot of immortals.

He continued, "I was told that some days ago you mentioned the same word this shinobi says regularly. He keeps repeating 'Jashin-sama' along with other strange phrases."

Holy hell, that must be Hidan.

"Hokage-sama, there's a big chance that you're talking about a Jashinist. Jashinism is a cult from the Land of Hot Water and is one of the oldest and still-active cults. They worship a deity called Jashin-sama."

The room was pin-drop silent.

I could sense Kakashi, Obito, Junpei, Genma, Raido, and Anko there. There were others too, but I hadn't met any of them yet.

Minato asked me how I knew so much about an S-rank shinobi. Even they didn't seem to have much information about him.

I told him, "I don't specifically know about the shinobi himself, but I know about the cult he might be part of. Jashinists are known to sacrifice their victims as part of their rituals. In case of females , well thay have more tortured end."

Everyone was listening to me intently.

I continued, "They only need a drop of blood to bond with their victim. Wherever they harm themselves, the victim suffers the same injury. However, the Jashinist doesn't get hurt-they're immune to the damage. These sacfifices prolong their lives."

I explained further, "I know this because I read a lot. Right now, I'm reading a book called Cults of Shinobi Nations. Additionally, Senju Tobirama mentioned these cults and their followers briefly in his fourth book."

It seemed like none of them had read the books I was referring to. Tobirama's books might look boring, but they're incredibly informative. He also mentioned Kakuzu in one of his books. Apparently, Shodaime Hashirama Senju fought Kakuzu and seriously wounded him.

I told them about Kakuzu too. "He is part of a different cult from a distant land."

At this point, they were listening to me keenly.

Minato looked stunned. He said, "It's impressive that someone knows so much about these things. I brought you here so the Anbu could hear it directly from you."

He asked the Anbu if they had any questions.

Anbu Dog (Kakashi), who I think is the captain of Team Ro, asked, "Is there a way to kill the Jashinist?"

I replied, "The best way is to dismember him-cut his body into separate parts and either bury them far apart or burn them to ash. Also, do not let his weapon even scratch you. If he collects even a drop of your blood, it's over. He'll begin the ritual."

They seemed satisfied with the answers. Minato reminded me to keep everything discussed here a secret. I nodded, then took my leave.

Minato's POV

I was waiting for the Anbu teams to arrive so we could discuss an urgent matter. Reports had come in about an S-rank rogue ninja who had been killing indiscriminately. Just last month, he was responsible for the deaths of numerous merchants and travelers. Among the victims were two of Konoha's wealthiest and most influential merchants.

The only survivor, a merchant who narrowly escaped, had provided information to T&I. From his account, we uncovered one crucial detail: the ninja often repeated the phrase "Jashin-sama." It was an unfamiliar name, and I'd never heard of anyone named Jashin wielding such power.

I summoned Anbu Teams Ro and Ko for this high-level mission. Team Ro's captain was Kakashi, while Team Ko was led by Junpei. These were some of the most capable shinobi in the village, and I trusted them to handle the situation.

A knock at the door broke my train of thought. "Enter," I called out.

The teams entered one by one, taking their places and awaiting my instructions.

I began, "Team Ro will take the lead on a mission to capture or eliminate an S-rank rogue shinobi. He wears a scratched forehead protector from the Land of Hot Water. The only concrete information we have is that he appears to be immortal and often says 'Jashin-sama.'"

At the mention of "Jashin," a ripple of unease passed through some of the Anbu members-an unusual reaction. I immediately asked, "Does anyone have something to share?"

Kakashi spoke up, "Hokage-sama, I recently heard that name from Sen Saito. She mentioned it a few days ago."

Genma and Obito both nodded in agreement. The rest of the Anbu listened intently.

I frowned in confusion. "How would she know anything about a dangerous rogue shinobi like this?"

No one had an answer. They seemed just as puzzled as I was. I decided to get answers. "Anbu Okami ," I addressed Junpei, "bring Sen here immediately."

Junpei nodded and vanished in an instant. The room fell silent as we waited.

It wasn't long before Junpei returned with Sen . She looked confused as she stepped into the room, likely wondering why she'd been summoned so suddenly.

I quickly explained the situation to her, and to my relief, she clarified that she didn't know the shinobi personally but had read about the cult he might belong to. That made sense-of course, she'd know about such things. Sen had a habit of reading extensively about obscure topics, and today, it had proven valuable.

After the Anbu had finished asking her questions, I dismissed her. She bowed slightly and left the room.

Once she was gone, Junpei turned to me and said, "Hokage-sama, she's incredibly resourceful. You should consider scouting her for the Black Ops. She's Kushina-sama's apprentice, which means she's already on her way to becoming a master of fuinjutsu. On top of that, she knows medical ninjutsu as well."

I couldn't deny the truth in his words. Sen was undoubtedly talented, but I also knew she had no interest in advancing to jonin, let alone joining the Anbu. While most shinobi would consider it an honor to be selected for Anbu tryouts, Sen wouldn't even bat an eye. Her ambitions didn't lie in that direction.

"I don't think she's in any condition to go on extensive missions right now," I said, "not while she's still recovering."

Shinobi like Sen were rare in the Anbu-specialists in fuinjutsu were becoming increasingly uncommon. Few understood that she'd recently developed an advanced medical seal, one capable of delivering emergency medical chakra to injured comrades. The seal had already been approved for use, and it would be issued to both teams for this mission, marking its first practical test.

"She's intelligent and resourceful, no doubt about that," I added. "It's just a shame she doesn't see herself in the Anbu."

We continued discussing the Jashin-related threat and finalized the mission plans. Team Ro was assigned as the primary task force to deal with the rogue shinobi, while Team Ko would act as backup if needed.

After reviewing the details, I dismissed the teams. It was time to put the plan into action.

The teams returned after 8 days and the mission was successful. I was told that if they didn't know about the Jashinist's powers that'd had casualties. He was partially an immortal man. He couldn't be killed with any weapon . They even severed his head and it still was cursing . In the end , they burned his entire body as Sen had advised.

I now wonder how much Sen knows about the other nations and cultures . She reads a lot that I know . I didn't know she had vast knowledge . She also talked about one another cult and it's member who fought Shodaime . Okami Informed me Hidan was talking about his partner named Kukazu . If this is the same kukazu Sen talked about then we should be prepared in advance .

I also researched about Tobirama Senju's books . He wrote many books on different topics . He indeed talked about a weird man named kukazu . I will ask her again if she knows more about him .

Both the teams gave their reports on the mission . Team Ro was successful in handling the rogue shinobi but they also had serious injuries while fighting him .

I am now thinking about what Okami said about Sen . She indeed is a smart one and ANBU could use her help . But the village cannot force a shinobi to become an ANBU . That's why we have tryouts . Sen doesn't seem like she would want to be a part of ANBU . I have observed that her way of thinking is different. She doesn't feel ashamed of working in the office . While many shinobi look at the paper job as a lowly job . But she thrives in it .

I will ask okami go scout her and see if she want go try in the tryouts. Her fuinjutsu skills are at advanced level now . What shocks me that her way of creating seal is so different. She has created so many seal with these ideas. Her medical seal was a success . Team Ro used the seal on time and that helped them untill they reached the village .

I am Impressed by her seal idea. Jiraya sensei also took some of her seals to try in the field . She has a right future in the sealwork .

Sen's POV

I’m still thinking about that meeting with the Hokage and the Anbu. They looked as if they were preparing for war. That’s what I admire about them—they are courageous and dangerous, the best of the best. They’re even more powerful than most jonin. Anbu operatives undergo more rigorous training than any other shinobi. Most of their missions involve assassinations where their identities remain concealed.

On the other hand, even though I was born in this world, I don’t have the courage to voluntarily go into the field and kill people. My mind feels older than my body, and the morals from my past life are still deeply ingrained in me. I don’t want to kill, but I don’t judge those who do either. What’s more interesting is that I’ve realized I’m more drawn to dangerous and mysterious shinobi—like the ones in the Anbu.

What can I say? I have a type, and I’m not ashamed of it. Not that anyone knows what my type is anyway.

Here I am, sitting on my kitchen counter, eating soba noodles, and still mulling over that meeting. It also made me realize that more and more people are becoming aware of my skills and knowledge. I just hope it doesn’t interfere with my other identity—the anonymous individual who sends special scrolls to the Hokage to warn him about the future.

For now, though, I need to focus on my current task: creating a seal with delicate threadwork on the inner lining of my jacket. I’ve been thinking about this for a while. The thread is dipped in chakra-infused ink for fuinjutsu seals. Using the thread, I’m weaving seals that can be activated when I channel my chakra into them.

Most of them are simple seals, like the ones I gave to Jiraiya-sama, but one of them is different. This particular seal has been on my mind for quite some time. It’s designed to create a chakra barrier that will shield my body and absorb ninjutsu-based elemental attacks into the seal itself. I’ve been imagining scenarios where I’m attacked by an A-rank or S-rank fire or elemental jutsu with no time to react. In such cases, this seal will act as a storage mechanism, absorbing the attack’s energy. The theory is complete, and now I’m working on the intricate needlework.

Since I’m already skilled in creating seals, I’m confident this one will work like a charm.

On a different note, I’ve also completed six illustrations for the next Icha Icha book. I plan to finish the rest this month and hand them over to Jiraiya-sama when he returns in a couple of months. I’ve ensured the illustrations don’t look cheap or vulgar but instead evoke a sense of beauty and allure, leaving the readers to use their own imaginations. That’s how it should be.

This book series is immensely popular among young shinobi, and I hope they’ll enjoy the new artwork.

All in all, this weekend has been good. I’m at home, eating homemade soba, creating seals, and working on illustrations. I haven’t felt this content in a long time. Even though I’m a shinobi, I feel fortunate to have found my place working within the village.

Later in the evening, I plan to take a walk along the Naka River and enjoy the early summer weather. For now, though, I’m going to take a nap.▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎▪︎
