10 ~ Natsu's Resolve

Lucy woke up back in the cell. She hissed in pain, and then found out both stabwounds were stitched. However it still hurt, Sock probably did it roughly. She then thought of someone: Natsu. He took all those beatings for her!

''Natsu!'' She yelled softly, but received no reply. No movement, nothing. Panic slowly started to rise. It was nothing like Natsu to ignore her just like that.

''Natsu, hey, please answer me...'' Lucy asked softly, looking at Natsu's pale figure. She then realized they didn't chain her back up, and so she limped over to the pinkette's figure.

''Natsu, do something! Yell! Growl! Twitch! Do something!'' Lucy shouted, shaking his leg weakly, while the other held her stomach. She slid down the wall again, and hung her head low in defeat.

''Natsu, you can't be dead... Please don't be... I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! Master will kill us when I tell them you died! Gray will be sad he lost his best friend! Master will be devastated, just like everyone else! Erza will be heartbroken, Wendy... She can't take the guilt of leaving us two alone! SO DON'T DIE ON ME OR HER OR ANYONE ELSE!'' Lucy shouted, tears falling from her eyes.

Natsu stirred. He then smiled weakly at Lucy. The blonde noticed his eyes were dull, and there were bags under his eyes. He probably hadn't slept the whole night from stress. Lucy sighed in relief. ''How long have we been here?'' Natsu asked, his voice hoarse.

''You tell me,'' Lucy replied in a soft tone, and sighed. She closed her eyes, and then smiled slightly.

''But we made it this far. I'm sure Gray, Erza and Wendy are on their way to save us!'' Lucy said in a slightly-cheering voice, earning a nod from Natsu.

Lucy stood up once more, and put a hand on Natsu's cheek. He had already fallen asleep. Lucy smiled slightly and let herself slid back on the ground. She too, drifted into a deep, deep slumber.

Lucy woke up, still in the same position she fell asleep in, however, Natsu wasn't there. Her eyes widened as she imagined the worst. They were both on the verge of death, and they still dared to torture them?! Lucy jumped up and scanned the hallway for any blood stains, screams, whatever. But she found nothing.

She then heard the chains in the cell across from her. She saw Natsu hanging there. He was still unconscious, which was, understandable. Lucy wanted to know why they did this, but her answer was soon answered.

Natsu awoke soon after, with the same confusion as Lucy, but growled when he found out they took him away from her. Soldiers filled the hallway once again, as they grabbed Lucy tightly, and dragged her across the hallway, Natsu tugging on the chains all the way.

''DON'T YOU SEE?! BRING HER ONCE MORE TO THAT DUDE AND HE'LL KILL HER!!'' Natsu shouted, but the soldiers ignored him. That's when Vowine came to shut him up.

''WAIT! TAKE ME INSTEAD!'' Natsu shouted. Lucy's eyes widened. He was in worse condition than her, yet he still... Natsu's words rang through her head.

''You didn't need to choose me, I was going to risk my life for you anyway,.''

Lucy gasped loudly, as she realized Vowine gave the order to put Lucy back in her cell, and take Natsu out. Natsu smiled a sad smile. ''I don't care if I die, but you have to live...'' Natsu whispered, but Lucy heard him loud and clear.

Lucy wondered why Natsu would do this for her. Then she looked at herself. She was laying on her side, coated in her own blood, two roughly fixed up stitches, her skin kind of black and scorched because of that electricity-devise, and she was breathing rapidly.

But when she was snapped out of her thoughts, Natsu was gone from his cell. Lucy silently prayed Natsu would make it out alive, since he was already in a worse condition than her, and now he would be even more injured than her.

Lucy calmed down her breathing as she limped to a wall and slid down. Her vision was blurry, her stomach and thigh hurted like hell, her whole body was in agonizing pain. Lucy now only realized how much it hurt, since she was alone, and got time for herself.

The only thing she could hear was her peaceful breathing, which slightly calmed her down. But that peace was soon disturbed, since soldiers filled her cell. Lucy scowled.

''What do you want now?'' Lucy asked in a very serious tone and a stern look.

''Now that the dragon slayer isn't here to protect you, we can have our fun!'' One of them yelled. The soldiers punched Lucy in her face, making her occiput slam into the dirty wall. Lucy yelped in pain, as the soldiers started to kick her repeatedly everywhere.

Suddenly, Lucy's body went numb. Her loud screams suddenly stopped, as she was barely conscious and didn't feel anything. However the soldiers kept hurting her.

Then they suddenly stopped, and one soldier looked at Lucy's stitched wounds. ''I'm getting tired of kicking her. How about we stab her wounds open again?'' He asked, poking at Lucy's stomach stitch.

Everyone agreed, and grabbed their spears. They used the blade to undo the stitches, and then stabbed her in that wound repeatedly, same done with her stomach. Lucy didn't even flinch, and now lost conscious for real.

The moment the soldiers noticed this, they left her there to die.

An hour later, Natsu returned. He was barely conscious. His hair was darker and messier, his whole body was now covered in cuts, his mouth, fingers and toes were bleeding a lot, while his eyes were only bleeding slightly, and were now duller than ever. He looked like if he fell on the ground, he'd die.

Natsu saw Lucy's unconscious body on the ground, and started to panic. ''Lucy...'' He said, just below a whisper. He almost couldn't speak, because he had screamed so much.

Natsu forced himself to stand and gripped the bars tightly. ''WHO DID THIS TO YOU?!'' He yelled, and fell to his knees. Lucy slightly stirred. She was barely able to answer his question.

Lucy wasn't dumb or stupid, she knew very well she was dying, alone, cold, in a rotten prison, filled with other criminals. But she didn't want to die. Not here, at least.

But Natsu too, knew he was dying. Both mages were, and you didn't need to be two years or older to notice. Natsu closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. He growled, and acted like he'd do a 'fire dragon roar', which he couldn't, but the soldiers didn't need to know. Soldiers quickly surrounded his cell, and opened the door to push him back.

But Natsu was quicker, and kicked them all in their neck, making them faint. He then limped to Lucy's cell, and kneeled down. ''I'm getting us outta here. We've waited too long, and if we stay here one more day, we'll die surely,'' Natsu stated, grabbed one of the soldiers' spears and cut through Lucy's cell bars.

''Natsu...'' Lucy whimpered. Natsu looked at her in pity and picked her up quickly. He was giving her a piggy-back ride. Both their bodies were ice cold, and they both couldn't use magic. They were hoping their dear friends would come for them, or else they wouldn't be able to escape.

But Natsu's body had other plans, as his legs gave in, and he fell on the ground. It was at that moment, that they both couldn't move anymore. Natsu was expecting too much from himself, and now he used his body to his limits.

It was over, they'd die right here, both.

With that thought, Natsu closed his eyes.

''They're here...'' Is what he heard from his dear friend, followed by loud screams of soldiers, before drifting off into an eternal sleep.
