"hey mom" quinn greeted with a tired smile. he had just stepped out from the locker rooms to have a little more privacy with the sudden call, and also to avoid his teammates teasing him.

"hey hon, how's practice?" she asked with an audible smile.

"it's good, we're taking a break right now" he commented, not wanting to cut the conversation short but knowing it couldn't take too long.

"that's good quinn. and how's that certain lady you're in love with?" she asked cheekily, hoping to find all the 'juicy details'.

"i'm getting really tired of everyone asking me that" he sighed, hoping people would just leave the topic alone.

"don't snap at me, i just want to know how you guys are doing" ellen said, trying to make her point clearer.

"we're good, fine" he hummed, already done with the conversation.

"quinn, you have to figure this out. you can't keep going like this without talking things with her and putting everything out there" she sighed, hoping her son would see her point of view. she was worried about him because things could get bad quickly and she didn't want him to get hurt.

"i know mom, believe me. i'm just scared that if we talk she's gonna want to cut things off and i'm selfish, i don't want her out of my life again" he explained, leaning back on the wall, dragging his hand down his face, feeling all the stress start to caught up to him.

"but if she does wanna cut things off, which i don't think, you have to respect her decision. it's not fair to her" ellen advised, knowing it was a tough place for them both but they had to stop acting like babies and work it out.

"i know, i know. i'm gonna talk to her soon, okay? i'll try"

"i hope so huggybear. you know how much we love her around and as much as i love you i don't want you to hurt her again"

"honey, i'm home!" devon yelled upon entering sunny's and molly's apartment.

"hey dev!" molly chirped from the couch where they were all already waiting.

"so, what are we watching today?" she asked plopping down on the loveseat and kicking her shoes off.

"i was thinking modern family" sunny mused, already looking for it on the tv.

"no, i don't wanna watch it again" jule grumbled, leaning back on the couch angrily.

"why!" molly laughed, amused by his childish antics. the only thing that was missing was that he didn't cross his arms.

"cause you always want to watch it" he whined, crossing his arms while molly desperately tried to keep her laugh in.

"because it's so good!" devon exclaimed, grabbing a blanket from the coffee table. why it was there, she didn't know, or care.

"no. i refuse to watch that again" jule said, trying to stay strong.

it hadn't worked. they were now almost at the end of season four, after starting the season from the beginning since sunny said it was the best one. jule had stopped arguing and even laughed at the jokes here and there.

it wasn't till the end of the last episode that devon broke the silence "i think i should cut things off with quinn" she said quietly, listening intently as the room fell in complete silence, even the tv wasn't making any sound.

"what?" jule confusedly asked, sitting up so fast he got dizzy.

"i mean, not completely. just tell him that i don't want to get back together" she shrugged, watching the tv again as the new episode started to play.

"but that's a lie" sunny scoffed, just as confused as everyone else.

"sunny" molly hissed, surprised at her behaviour.

"no let me talk. look, dev. i know that you don't know what the fuck is going on but you're lying to yourself if you think you don't want him back" sunny explained, trying the tough love tactic since nothing else seemed to work.

"sunny, cut it off" molly ordered, glaring at her.

"babe i love you, i really do. and i didn't know you when you were dating but you seem so much happier already. ever since you talked to him again your whole persona lit up, it's like you're completely different. you were so sad before, always down and so depressed and it killed me inside, cause i know how happy you can be" she lectured, seeing as devon got more emotional by the second.

"i'm with sunny, minus the whole tough love part, but dev, i know you don't really want to let him go. i've seen the way you look at him, it's like i'm finally seeing my bestfriend back" jule softly said, standing up to sit on the armrest of her loveseat, wrapping an arm around her.

"i don't want him to hurt me again" devon croaked, taking a deep breath to avoid tears from spilling.

"i know baby, and we can't promise you he won't but you can minimize those chances by talking with him, seriously" molly comforted, surprisingly keeping her tears at bay.

"i'll try, okay?" she whispered, leaning into jule's touch.

"i'm sorry for being so hard but i don't wanna lose my happy dev, even if she annoys me sometimes" sunny whispered, crossing the short distance between the couch and the loveseat, taking a seat on the other armrest.

"i know sun, it's okay. love you" dev said, hugging sunny by the waist.

"love you too dev"

"we'll support you no matter what, you know that" molly comforted, plopping down into dev's lap, earning laughs from everyone.
