Chapter 14
04:05, 12 September 2013The rest of my week was pretty uneventful, other than a few people in school asking me about Cody. I was okay with that; I got over it after awhile.
Meredith came home with me Friday after school. We were sitting in my living room. My mom walked in.
"I gotta pick up some things for dinner tonight, do you girls wanna come?" My mom asked us.
Meredith and I looked at each other. We both knew what each other were thinking: the grocery store has magazines.
We both looked back at my mom, "Yes!"

We walked down the grocery store aisles looking for the magazine section.
"Here!" Meredith said. She ran over to the lines and lines of magazines.
We looked around. My eye caught a particular one, 'Twist' magazine.
I picked it up and looked inside. My interview was on page 16. The interviewer kept pretty true to what was said.
"Is Cody in that?" Meredith excitedly asked.
"I-"
She grabbed the magazine out of my hand before I could say anything.
"Wait. Why are you in it?" She shouted at me.
"Shh!" I said. "An interviewer came to my house. I hoped that this interview would clear up a few things."
"And you didn't tell me?" She loudly whispered.
"No, I just didn't think it'd matter all that much to you," I responded.
"Of course it does! You're my best friend and you're in a magazine! Is there anything else you are hiding from me?" She said throwing her arms up.
I need to tell her I talk to Cody and I set up the concert, but not here, not now.
"I'll, uh, tell you later. Not here though, okay?" I told her.
"Oh, so there is something else. Okay, I see how it is," she said upset. She took the magazine with her.
Before running after Meredith, I decided to do something really quick. I took the 'Twist' magazines and spread them out over all the other magazines.
"What are you doing?" Meredith must've come back.
"I, uh," I didn't know what to say. Well, this is awkward. I was trying to promote the 'Twist' magazine issue with my interview in it.
"Never mind. Let's go find your mom," she still sounded upset. I could tell she was hiding a lot of her anger.
We found my mom at the check out already.
"Hey, did you girls find anything you want to buy?" My mom asked.
"Yeah, this magazine," Meredith placed the magazine on the check out belt.

We were back at my house.
My mom was unpacking the groceries. "Girls, here's your magazine."
I walked over to get it.
"Oh, wait! Is this the magazine with your interview in it?" My mom asked.
Uh-oh.
"So your mom knew, too? You should've told me," Meredith raged walking over to me.
"I'm sorry! That's all I can say!" I yelled back at her.
"Girls! I'm sorry, but could you go upstairs and work this out? I have to make dinner," My mom said breaking up our fight.
I looked at Meredith and we marched upstairs.
We sat in silence for awhile.
Maybe I should just tell her everything now, get it all out at once.
"I have something else to say," I spoke.
"Oh, more secrets, great," She sighed.
"But I don't think I'm going to tell them to you by the way you're acting now," I said.
"Fine," She changed her tone in her voice. "Is this better?"
"Whatever," I said. "I'll just say it. You know the concert Cody had here?"
"Yeah," She slowly said.
"It was set up. I told Cody to come here, in fact, I have his number. He gave it to me when we stayed at the same hotel," I came out.
"What?" She yelled. "You lied to me this entire time. You and Cody have been talking?"
"But it's not like it's any different between you and Alli. I bet you two talk a lot," I tried to make a point.
"You talk with Cody a lot?" She said.
"Sorta," I told her.
"You shoulda just told me!" She shouted.
"I know, but I made a promise with Cody," I lowered my voice.
"I coulda kept that promise, too," she mumbled.
"I'm sorry," I went over to hug her.
She didn't hug back.
"Please, forgive me?" I begged. "We are best friends, we shouldn't be fighting."
She waited, then nodded her head.
"Yay!" I gave her another hug. This time she hugged me back.
"I'm sorry for over reacting," She confessed.
"I shoulda told you, though," I said back.
"Yeah, yeah, so what's Cody's number?" Meredith asked.
Yep, Meredith's back to being her self.
We both laughed.
"But seriously though," She said.
"But I can't tell you," I said.
"Pwease?" She gave me the puppy dog face.
I shook my head. "Sorry it's confidential."
"Fiiinnnnneee," She gave up.
Well, some things needed to remain a secret.
