Waited On a Miracle
05:29, 21 April 2022Camilo and Mirabel panted as they made it back safely to the others.
"Oh, mi corazón!" Tía Julieta exclaimed as she engulfed Mirabel in a tight hug. "Are you alright? Are you hurt?" She asked as she examined Mirabel's face for any injuries.
Mirabel rolled her eyes as she groaned. "Mamá, I'm okay." She reassured her.
Just then, a bright flash of light flooded the area, and everyone shielded their eyes. Camilo, who was also being given the same treatment by his parents, turned around and covered his eyes.
Upon reopening them, in the sky, Camilo spotted your mother aiming an unknown object at them.
"Hey, Mira, what's that thing being pointed at us?" He asked as he turned around to face Mirabel.
She raised an eyebrow at him and turned around out of curiosity, looking at where he gestured.
Her eyes widened when she glimpsed at the enormous spear being pointed at them. Quickly turning back around, she laughed and placed her hands on her hips.
"Tell me I'm hallucinating. Tell me I am not actually seeing a spear being pointed at us." She said with a smile on her face, but it faded as she saw the amount of horror on the faces of the Madrigals.
"We're gonna die!" Antonio cried, hiding in the arms of his father.
Luisa, Dolores, and Isabela huddled together as they kept their eyes locked on the weapon.
Tía Julieta gently grabbed Mirabel and held her close. Tía Pepa went over to Camilo and did the same.
"We need to leave." Mirabel breathed out, surprised she even managed to get a single word out.
"No, we can't." Abuela protested with panic and worry in her voice.
"But Mamá-" Tía Pepa interjected, concerned about the situation at hand.
"We can't just leave the encanto. This is my home. This is our home." Abuela said as tears welled up in her eyes. Memories from long ago began to flood her brain. About her hometown, the fleeing, and... Pedro. These memories attacked her mind, and she broke out into tears.
Everyone stared at Abuela in shock and surprise. No one had ever seen this side of her before. There was never a time where they saw her shed a single tear, not since the death of Tío Pedro, but that was forever ago. On the outside, she seemed so calm and collected, being the stern and hardworking person she was. But after all that's happened, she finally cracked under that hard shell of hers.
Mirabel, who watched as Abuela cried into her hands, glanced down at the ground. She couldn't help but feel guilty about the events that took place earlier. Regret filled her very body, and she shivered as a wave of remorse overcame her.
Feeling her mother's hands pull away, Mirabel looked over to see her walking over to Abuela. Putting her arms around her, Tía Julieta comforted Abuela as she sobbed intensely.
Mirabel felt a hand on her shoulder, and she turned her head to see Camilo. He gave her a comforting smile, and she returned it. But her eyes then widened as she remembered about before.
At first, Camilo looked at her with a puzzled expression. But then it was as if they had shared the same minds because his eyes also widened. He, too, remembered about the situation earlier and looked back up.
Gasps escaped their mouths as they saw an object racing towards them at an incredible speed. But they realized soon enough that it wasn't an object...
It was a person.
~~~
You held out an outstretched arm. "No!" You screamed with tears streaming down your face.
Holding out both arms, you, with everything in your power, tried to evaporate the spear. But because of your weakened form, you only managed to shrink it down a bit.
An idea then popped into your head at the very last second, an idea that you might regret. An idea that might bring dejection and sorrow upon everyone. But it was for their own good.
As they had saved you from your dark times, it was time you saved them. They were your miracle... And now, you will be theirs.
Soaring through the air, you raced the spear to the Madrigal family, desperate to reach them first.
Approaching the Madrigals, you spotted Camilo in the front. If you didn't hurry, it would hit him, which gave you all the more reason to get there before the spear did.
Coming into contact with the ground, you looked up at Camilo, meeting his eyes. You opened your mouth to say something, but all that came out was blood.
Shrieks of pure horror and fright filled the air, which caught Abuela's attention. Eyes were wide and mouths were agape as they saw your body.
Blood from the wound trickled down your back and stomach, coating your clothing in a layer of the red liquid.
Your wide, teary eyes stared straight at Camilo and he stared back, watching as the life drained out of them.
"(Y-Y/N)?..." Camilo trembled, reaching a shaky arm towards you.
Your limp body fell forward and into him, knocking him backwards a bit. Placing both of his hands on your shoulders, he breathed heavily as he held you up.
Your half-lidded, lifeless eyes shined no more, the eyes he always loved to get lost in. Your once bubbly and animated smiles were gone, the smiles he would always melt at. Your cheerful and vibrant personality was gone, the same personality he fell in love with. Everything about you was gone.
You were gone.
"(Y/N)..." He repeated once more, wiping away the blood from your lips, the lips he longed to kiss all this time.
"(Y/N)!" Camilo screamed as he fell to the ground hugging you, cautious of the spear protruding from your gut. It was at that point when he fully registered your impaled body. Your cold, dead, impaled body.
His lip trembled, and his body racked with pain. Pain from the fact you were dead and that he could never see you again. He would never get the chance to talk to you again, to hear your sweet voice.
He would never get the chance to ask you to be his.
Hot tears streamed down his face, completely soaking your shoulder and his ruana. The others stood in trepidation, taking in what had just happened right before their eyes.
Tía Julieta, frozen in horror, snapped out of her trance. "Someone get me-" She yelled, about to ask for ingredients to make a remedy, but there was no point in doing so. Casita was gone, (Y/N) was gone. The miracle was gone. There wasn't a way she could heal (Y/N).
The spear had melted from the inside, breaking off and falling to the ground. Blood gushed out profusely and Camilo noticed this. Quickly, he placed his hand over the wound, trying to prevent more blood loss.
Mirabel took a step closer to Camilo, looking down at your corpse. Her vision became blurry because of the tears that had welled up.
"This is the miracle you sent me?..." Mirabel croaked, tears running down her cheeks as she blinked. "This is the miracle I was waiting on?..."
She fell to her knees, shaking vigorously as she grabbed your arm.
"(Y/N)..." She whispered, her voice coarse. "Wake up, please."
No response was given, all that was heard was the distant sobbing from the other Madrigals.
"You can't leave me, (Y/N). You can't leave us!" Mirabel cried, grabbing both of her arms. Then she covered her face in her hands, weeping. She wailed, grieving for her best friend in the entire world. The one who was always there for her. Who would she talk to now that you were gone? Who would she mess around with and make stupid jokes with?
Isabela and Luisa broke out into tears, seeing their younger sister in so much pain. Dolores closed her eyes tightly and looked up, trying to blink back tears that threatened to fall.
Abuela, who had already been crying, covered her mouth with her hand. Deciding it was too much to take in, she turned away with tears returning to her eyes.
Tía Julieta and Tía Pepa looked at each other, not seeming to mind the tears that made their way down their faces. They both went up to Abuela and hugged her, each sobbing as they rested their heads on Abuela's shoulders.
Both Tío Félix and Tío Agustín were in shock. Tío Agustín took off his glasses and placed his hand on his hip, rubbing his teary eyes with his other hand. Tío Félix only closed his eyes and held Antonio close, calming his son down.
Camilo looked down at your body as he held you bridal style in his arms. He wished to see your beautiful eyes once more, along with your bright smile. But he couldn't, because of the tears in his eyes and because you were gone.
"Don't leave me, (Y/N)..." He said in a raspy voice. His face was tear-stained and his eyes were red and puffy. "You can't..."
Tears that ran down his face would accumulate into a group of tears at the bottom of his chin. And when the huge tear drop had gathered enough tears, it fell onto your stomach.
Mirabel, who wiped her hands on her dress, choked on tears as she placed her arms around Camilo.
"C-Camilo..." She said, her voice quavering. "Please don't—d-don't cry."
Mirabel's words only brought more tears to his eyes, and he sat there hopelessly as he looked up into the sky. He sobbed loudly, crying out your name with everything he had left within him.
Moments later, more arms were felt wrapping around them. The two turned their heads and looked over their shoulders to see Luisa, Dolores, and Isabela.
They all shared the same sorrowful expression on their faces. Every single one was red, tear-stained, and puffy.
Hugging each other, they cried in each other's embrace, feeling remorse and grief. And soon enough, the other Madrigals joined in, the whole family now a sobbing mess.
Suddenly, there was a spark of light. Everyone opened their eyes in shock, confused where the spark came from.
Just then, another spark appeared, growing from Mirabel, specifically where her heart was. She looked down at the growing spark with curiosity in her eyes, her glossy face lighting up.
There was then another spark of light, but this time, it was coming from Camilo. Then, it was one after the other, where a spark of light appeared in every Madrigal.
While each Madrigal had a spark of light, the ones that shined brightest were Mirabel's and Camilo's.
Everyone watched as the sparks of light floated above your body and combined into one ball of light. The ball then descended into your body, absorbing it.
The Madrigals watched with intent, waiting for something to happen... perhaps a miracle.
A few minutes went by and the Madrigals began to lose hope. But something had to have happened, they were sure of it. Otherwise, the random sparks of light would've been for nothing.
Camilo frowned slightly and held you close to him.
"Please..." He begged. "Wake up..."
