[*Chapter Seven*]

15:03, 26 December 2021

A high pitched scream startled Darcy out of her pitiful sleep. She leapt up out of bed, snatching her metal baseball bat that was resting against the wall, next to her bedroom door and legged it towards the reverberating sound. Her bare feet found themselves outside Elena's bedroom door, wasting no time she raised the bat and kicked the door open. Only to find Elena sitting up in bed panting heavily, Darcy's blue eyes darted around the bedroom, searching for any lurking danger. None was deterred, but she still held up her guard, rushing to her sister and drawing her into her arms. "Hey, shh. It's okay. I'm here." Darcy rocked the brunette back and forth, cooing softly as she brushed her hand through her sweaty hair.

A few seconds later, Elena was now calm. The older girl pulled away, "Are you okay?" she questioned, wondering what could have made her scream like she was being murdered.

Elena nodded her head, sending her a sleepy smile, "Yeah, just a bad dream. Sorry for waking you." She said sheepishly, her nimble fingers twist the bedsheets.

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"No, no it's okay, already forgotten about." Darcy just hummed not all believing her, but let it drop and got back up walking towards the door, "Okay, I'm going in the shower," She called over her shoulder.

After Darcy got dressed, she checked her phone, scrolling through last nights messages, the reason why she had a shit sleep and stopped at Stefan's name, clicking onto the conversation.

Sexy-ass-back.

Damon killed Tanner.

She sighed clicking onto Caroline, seeing the message she sent last night was unanswered.

Carebare

Can we talk?

She knows Damon is messing with the girls head. Since the other night at dinner, when Darcy snapped at her, she's been riddled with guilt. Caroline is her best friend, has been since their kindergarten days, way back in the sandbox, when they shared peanut and jelly sandwiches. She may be a drama queen, and sometimes doesn't think before she speaks, but she would never say those horrible words. Darcy put two and two together, Damon is a vampire, a vampire can compel, bingo! And if he's hurt her, he's going to need to worry more than getting spiked with vervain. Oh, yes Darcy has plans for that smirking blue-eyed devil.

Putting her phone down on to her bed, the click-clack of her heels sound as she saunters across the wooden flooring, stopping at her closet. Opening the door, she crouches, reaching into the back of the hanging clothes, dragging out a large brown wooden chest and hauls it over to the bed where she sits, picking her phone back up, peeling off the black f**k you silicon case revealing a slim brass key. Inserting the key into the lock, Darcy beams with glee hearing the lock disengage. Come to Mami, baby!

On the top was a non-descriptive black artificial case with clips keeping it sealed. Darcy flipped them up and lifted the polystyrene foam lid revealing a black Avalanche Anaconda crossbow with a red-dot scope, inside its additional black leather bag held six bolts, underneath was her trusty bow and arrow tucked away in her leather quiver were sixteen spear-blade arrowheads coated in vervain, a set of three black stainless steel hunting knives with its blades also varnished in vervain. There was also a wrist crossbow, and her custom made wooden stakes. Below those, right at the bottom of the chest was a medium-sized wooden box, inside was a bundle of wrapped vervain, wolfsbane, bracelets, anklets, rings and other bits and bobs of jewellery, that she would also fill with vervain.

Before Greyson died, he and John had Darcy training to be a hunter from the age of ten, from that she became wholly skilled in combat and hunting the supernatural, although she's never been up against them...yet. He also made sure she was protected by intaking vervain, which she mixes into her coffee every morning, rather than enclosing it into jewellery, where it could be ripped off of her. Without that, vampires can compel and then everything would be a mess. Zack Salvatore was who she also got her vervain off, so imagine her surprise when she found out the Mystic falls newcomers are related to him and not only that but vampires as well. Consider Darcy very shocked with the new information.

Her father also included in his will for her to have possession of the Gilbert journals, device and watch. He wanted her prepared for when Mystic Falls becomes punctured to the world of supernatural. Because it will and after all, she is the protectress of the Gilbert family; this is what she has been trained to be since she was a little girl. She'll do her damn hardest to stand by her promise and protect her family.

"Scum ball. Scum bucket," Darcy watched her spot at the kitchen Island as Jenna stood in the living room verbally assaulting the news broadcaster on the TV. She raised a plucked eyebrow sipping her coffee.

"Who are you talking to?" Elena asked, coming into the room with a box in her hands.

Not taking her eyes off the screen, Jenna pointed at the man on the screen with the remote, not bothering to hide her distaste, "Him. The news guy, also known as Logan 'scum' Fell."

"Hence why she's cursing him," Darcy said, walking over to the two ladies. Jenna nudged her warning her to shut her mouth, knowing she knows their history. The ebony-haired ignored her and turned to her sister, "Do you remember the story Mum told us, about why Jenna left Mystic Falls?"

Elena thought for a second then glanced at the guy, "Oh, no way," She chuckled in surprise. The brunette walked closer to the older woman, "You and him?" Glancing back at the screen, she admired the man's appearance, "He's cute," She teased.

Jenna whirled around, triggered by her niece's comment, "He's not cute. There's nothing cute about him."

Darcy chuckled smugly, "That's why you dated him, right?" The redhead pointed her finger at the older girl, "You shut that pretty mouth up," She warned, turning off the television, already having enough of seeing Scum buckets face. Taking notice of the box in Elena's hands, she asked, "What are you doing with that?"

The younger sister made her way over to the kitchen table, pulling out a seat and sitting down, so she could finally check inside. She glanced guiltily at her sister, "Sorry, Darce I saw you left this on your bed and remembered Mum had told Mrs Lockwood she would loan it to the founder's council for their heritage display," She explained opening the box.

Darcy crossed her arms and glared at her blatant lack of respect, "So you just took it? Without asking me?" She's sure she closed her bedroom door.

"I know, I'm sorry, it's just Mum wanted this to happen, and I want to make sure her wishes were met."

"Whatever, forget about it," Darcy sighed sitting down, sliding the box closer to herself, revealing to contents. Luckily she put the rest of the stuff away and was already the plan was set in motion.—John's orders.

Jenna reached over plucking out a ring, turning it around, "Is this Grandma Beth's ring?" She wondered.

Darcy hummed admiring the pocket watch in her hand, flipping up the cover, while Elena bragged "Originally it was great-Great-Grandma Mary's wedding ring."

Just as Elena finished explaining, Jeremy sauntered into the room, immediately making his way over to the box, peering at the items and picked up one, "How much do you think this stuff is worth? You know like on e-bay," He asked curiously.

"That's a good question," Darcy shrugged, thinking it was a decent question to ponder. They had much stuff; it wasn't like they would use it or miss it, well except for what Jeremy is currently holding.

Elena snatched the item out of her brother's hands, "You're not going to find out," She told Jeremy, and side-eyeing the oldest Gilbert, "Either of you,"

Darcy threw up her hands, frustrated, "Why you gotta bring me into everything?" She huffed, pushing back the chair, heading into the kitchen to wash her coffee mug, anywhere to get away from the infuriating girl, but still able to hear as Jeremy defended himself, "That stuff is mom and dads. You can't give it away."

"I'm not giving it away. It's called a loan, Jeremy," Elena told him before walking away.

Her dear sister doesn't remember the first boy in the Gilbert family gets the pocket watch, and she's just taken the one thing of his parents away from him. She turned away from the sink, drying her hands against her jeans, her gaze met Jeremy's watering glare, opening her arms she beckoned him over, and he did, wrapping his arms around his sister, breathing in her calming scent of Jasmine.

"I'm sorry, Jer, I'll get it back for you," Darcy said, a promise lacing every word.

The Gilbert siblings were seated in the kitchen, eating their dinner that darcy made them when the doorbell rang. She cast them a glance when no one made an effort to move, "Oh, Darcy be a darling and get the door, will you?" She said sarcastically, walking over and opening the door. A harsh glare immediately formed seeing Tyler Lockwood on the doorstep. "Fuck sake. What do you want now, Lockwood? Haven't we seen your ugly mug enough?" She was tempted to slam the door on his face.

Tyler tensed at her vulgar mouth and harsh demeanour. He swallowed thickly seeing the nasty cut and purple contusion under her right eye. "I'm here for my mom. I was supposed to pick up a box of stuff."

Darcy tensed, no way was she giving him her parent's possessions, god knows what would happen to them, but then remembered Johns words. She turned to pick up the box off the side and handed it over, "Be careful," She warned.

Jeremy appeared behind her, pushing her behind him, "Yeah, careful with it, dick,"  He warned him, he tried getting into Tyler's face.

Elena showed up and stepped in to break the tension pulling him away, seeing as Darcy was no help, throwing mocking looks behind Jeremy's back, "Hey! Not now, okay, guys? Please?"

"I'm fine. He's just a punk." Tyler said unaffected.

"I'll give you punk," The oldest and youngest Gilbert echoed, lunging forward only to get blocked by Elena moving in and pushing them away.

"Look, Tyler. Maybe you should go. Tell your mom that I'll see her tonight," Elena told him as Darcy and Jeremy walked upstairs and into his room.
