Corruption

I laughed at Shin Dong's puzzled look. His brows furrowed and he stared at me with confusion.

"You do realize if you keep working on this case, Hyuk Jae will go to jail, right?" He stood up and approached me, putting a hand on top of my head.

"Yeah," I chuckled, "but no matter whether I love him or not, Hyuk should pay for his crimes." I said proudly, remembering his gentle eyes.

Shin Dong smiled faintly before sitting back down on his desk, he put some papers on a drawer and removed his glasses leaning on his elbows.

"So?" He cleared his throat. "...Any news?"

My smile faded as I remembered Hyuk Jae's words.

There is corruption on the Justice Force, Min Young-ah...

"Chief." I said leaning on his desk to look directly into his eyes. "I...heard something...funny."

If there is someone helping Hyuk Jae on the inside Shin Dong would be very disappointed. He trusts everyone and treats us like his younger siblings (even the ones that are older).

Then again, it makes sense. That would explain why Hyuk Jae's files are blocked and unaccessable.

But then...wouldn't the case itself be blocked? Unless it was someone of the low ranks...But if it was someone of the low ranks, his files should be unblocked...

Nothing I thought of made any sense.

"Min Young-ah?" Shin Dong's voice brought me out of my mind. "You heard something funny?"

I rubbed my fingers flustered and looked around making sure we were alone. I looked at Shin Dong and gulped.

" I talked with Hyuk Jae." I said clearong my throat. "Chief, are you able to access his files?" I approached the topic differently. Maybe it was just me being of a lower rank.

"Now that you say it, I did try to do some research but the access was denied." He said rubbing his chin. "I'm not that surprised though, It's probably blocked by the higher-ups."

That's weird...Shin Dong is the chief after all, is there someone above him? The government? But it makes no sense...

"What are you getting at, Min Young-ah?" He asked impatiently.

"Well, you see..." I shifted uncomfortably on my chair. "I think...Hyuk Jae is being protected...by someone on the inside."

Shin Dong's face went pale. Colorless. His eyes widened and he gulped. It was as if time had stopped and I felt uncomfortable facing his paralyzed body.

"That makes no sense." His voice came as a raspy whisper. He cleared his throat and shifted on his seat. "Where did you hear such...such blasphemy?!"

I was shocked by his tone of voice and choice of words. In all the years I had known Shin Dong he had never exploded this way, always being so calm.

"Oppa..." Was all I could reply.

"Man Min Young. Retract your words immediately, don't you trust your coworkers?! No one, and I repeat, no one would ever commit such fraud in the SJ Lawfirm. No matter how in love you are with that man, you can't turn against us for his sake." He slammed his hands on his desk and stood up, making me flinch.

"Get out." He said trying to calm down. "You can come back when you let go of such ridicoulous ideas."

"I'm not--"

"Leave."

I gathered my things and huffed as I left through the glass door. I had never seen Shin Dong go so crazy in all my life. But this only told me one thing.
