Chapter 19

HELLO!! I have returned from holiday with another chapter for you guys. The next one after this is in editing so it will be out tomorrow or late tonight. Did anyone see the olympic opening? My mum used to work at Great Ormond Street Hospital so she was talking all the way through that bit. talking of olympics on my holiday I saw the olympic sailing village and a 1948 torch xD Anyways, I'll let you read this chapter. *caution, made me cry writing it*

Chapter 19 – No, not my baby sister

Ethan’s POV

Oh my god. Katie just fainted in my arms.

It’s been a good 10 minutes since she passed out and not a sound or movement from her. Mum is making me take her to the hospital so here I am, driving as fast as the law will allow me to get her there quickly.

I carried her in and ran to the front desk.

“She just passed out in my arms. One moment she was fine and then she had passed out. It’s been about 20 minutes I guess and she hasn’t stirred at all.” I gabbled to anyone who would listen.

“What’s her name?” A woman with blonde hair tied back and rectangular glasses perched on her nose asked.

“Katie Tomlinson.” I answered.

“Thank you.” She made some notes on a piece of paper that seemed to appear from nowhere. “We’ll take some tests and see what’s wrong.” Some doctors came over and took her away to be tested. “Are you a relative?” The doctor asked.

“No,” I shook my head. “Boyfriend.”

“Well, good job for bringing her in, you obviously care about her very much. But I do need you to phone a family member.” I nodded and walked out to my car to get Katie’s phone which I had removed from her pockets to phone Louis.

Louis’ POV

“Louis your phone is ringing!” Liam yelled to me. I was pacing around my room, whilst the others where in the lounge. How could I be such a rubbish brother? She’s only been here for a few days and already she has ran away 3 times.

I ran out and answered it without even checking the caller ID.

“Katie?” I spoke into the phone.

“Err, no sorry.” A voice I didn’t recognise said. “I’m Ethan, Katie’s boyfriend.” He explained. I growled silently to myself inside. She should be having boyfriends. “Katie is in hospital. That’s why I’m ringing. She passed out suddenly and was out for a long time so I took her to the hospital.”

“F**k.” I breathed deeply. “Is everything okay?” Stupid question, of course it’s not okay if she’s lying in hospital.

“The doctors are running some tests now but they want you to go in and speak to them.”

“I’ll be there in 20 minutes.” I assured him. “Thanks Ethan.”

“No worries, I just hope Katie’s alright.” Well, Ethan sounds genuine. Maybe he’ll be alright for her after all.

“Guys!” I yelled after hanging up and shoving my phone in my pocket. I practically sprinted into the lounge and grabbed my keys. “We’re off. Come on.” I began running out to my car, wanting to get there as soon as possible.

“Louis, what’s going on?” Niall asked when they joined me.

“Katie’s in hospital.” I said, feeling hot, salty tears rolling down my face. What if everything’s not okay? What happens then? Mum will never trust me with the girls ever again.

“Lou I’m driving.” Harry insisted, pulling me into the back seat. I agreed with ease and handed over the keys.

Harry hardly had the chance to stop the engine before I was running towards to entrance.

“Katie Tomlinson. Where’s Katie Tomlinson?” I asked, slightly rudely, but right now I didn’t really care. I was worried. “Sorry.”  I apologized.

“It’s quite alright.” The woman was kind but that’s probably part of her job. “She’s still in tests and hasn’t woken yet, I’m afraid you can’t see her. But wait outside room 104 and someone will let you know as soon as you can.” She smiled, pointing to double doors, starting the maze of white corridors.

“Thanks.” I flashed a quick smile and set of down the corridor, keeping to a quick pace in case she woke.

Some guy was sat in one of the white uncomfortable plastic chairs with his head in his hands, tugging at tufts of dirty blonde hair. So this is Ethan.

“Ethan?” I asked, sitting in a chair opposite him.

“Yeah.” He raised his head, revealing eyes pink with tears.

“I’m Louis, her brother.” I introduced myself. “Thanks for bringing her in.”

“It’s fine.”

Harry, Niall, Zayn and Liam all caught up with me, sitting down on the plastic chairs and introducing themselves to Ethan.

An awkward silence filled the air. No one had spoken and all that could be heard was the sound of machines around the hospital. It made me feel very uneasy. What if there was something seriously wrong with Katie?

Katie’s POV

Pain. All I could feel was pain. I opened my eyes and adjusted to the bright lights of the white room I was in.

“Ethan?” I said, my voice raspy and dry.

“No love, you’re in the hospital.” Someone told me. “I’m Dr Clarke, I’ve been running some tests, the results will be ready soon and then we’ll see what’s wrong with you.” He smiled nicely, talking softly and gently.

“Can I see Louis?” I asked, moving my head on the pillows. He nodded and left the room.

Louis’ POV

“Is Louis here? For Katie Tomlinson?” A youngish doctor asked, appearing from room 104. I shot up from the name Louis.

“Yep.” He motioned for me to follow him.

I saw Katie lying there on a bed. She was still the clothes she wore before but her hair was messy, her top crumpled and cotton wool was plastered to her arms where they had taken blood.

“Louis.” She smiled.

“Hello princess.” I kissed the top of her head, stroking her hair. “I told you that you weren’t okay.” I grinned, trying to make light of the situation.

“I’m fine.” Katie insisted.

“Well obviously  you’re not. You’re lying in hospital with blood running from your nose.” Wait? What? Blood? “Doctor? She’s bleeding.” I yelled out of the door. I glanced back at my sister. The blood was frantically streaming down, staining her white t-shirt but she was having some kind of fit. Like a seizure. Four doctors came rushing in, taking her away again.

“She needs a brain scan.” The same man as before told me. In that moment my heart stopped. A brain scan.

“No,” I whispered, tears falling. “It can’t be serious.”

“Louis come on.” Liam pulled me out of the room.

“She needs a brain scan Li.” I sobbed. “A brain scan…” I repeated, as if in awe, but really I was in shock. 

I had no idea what was going on but I soon found myself sat on the steps outside with Harry’s arm around my shoulders.

“She started bleeding and then kinda seized up.” I recalled. “They’ve taken her for a brain scan Harry.” *Click* the click of a camera sounded into the noise of the traffic, but still loud and clear.

“Oh my gosh Louis, is Eleanor in hospital or something?” a fan asked, snapping more pictures.

“No.” Harry replied for me, seeing that I was too tearful to speak.

“Oh few,” The fan sounded releafed. “I was worrying it was someone important you knew.”

“She is.” I growled standing up with a start, probably scaring the girl. “My sister is in there, and I should be too.” I marched off back down the corridors and sinking into a plastic chair a little way along from the others. In this moment I needed to be on my own, I think they understood that.

Hours had passed and still we were sat there waiting for the news. Liam had phoned my mum explaining everything. She couldn’t leave the girls or get them off school, but when I know what’s wrong with Katie I’ll tell her.

“Katie Tomlinson?” a doctor asked, wondering who could be waiting to see her. We all stood up, looking towards the slightly older lady. “Family of Katie Tomlinson?” Everyone but me sat down. “If you’d like to follow me.” I obliged and followed her into a small empty room. “I’ve got the results from the tests and scan.” She announced.

I nodded, signalling for her to continue. “I’m sorry. Katie appears to have a large section of the brain unable to function properly, causing headaches, seizures and bleeding.” My heart started pounding.

“W-what does that mean?” I stuttered, fresh tears pricking up in my eyes.

“Katie has a brain tumour.”

Sobbing. I fell so sorry for her. Hmm...very sad.
