Chapter 25- confessed love

Gilbert's POV

''TODAY IS THE DAY BASH'' I exclaimed as I stormed into the kitchen, determination written across my face.

''Let me guess, you're going to confess your feelings to Anne'' he said nonchalantly

''what, how'd you know?'' I puzzled

''You've been saying the same thing for the past two weeks and every day you come back looking like a heart broken fool'' he chuckled

I recalled the past days of me attempting to tell Anne I like her, I would always start with the same statement 'I need to tell you something' and ended with a stupid excuse made at the spot when I backed out.

''I HAVE TO GO MY CAT IS DYING'' I remembered saying yesterday.

But today, today is different, today I'm going to truly tell Anne how I feel, I will stare into those mesmerizing ocean-like eyes of hers and tell her that I like her.

''Eh boy, stop daydreaming and head to class, you're going to be late''

''Right'' I murmured as I waved goodbye to Bash and headed towards the Avonlea schoolhouse to meet my destiny.

''Anne I like you'' I said out loud, no that sounds stupid ''I like you Anne'' that sounds even worse, I try to practice saying the words as I walk through the willow trees.

I reach the Avonlea schoolhouse and immediately notice the girl with the neatly combed braids. I take a deep breath and approach her ''Anne''

She looks back at me and smiles, as I stare at her strawberry lips my insides tie a knot, and I consider jumping off the window and making a run for it.

''May I speak to you for a second'' I ask her as I clear my throat

''Of course, what's on your mind Gil? Also is your cat okay, I didn't even know you have cat. Aren't cats just the cutest things, I wish I was cat'' she says as we both leave the crowd.

''My cat?'' I ask confused, oh right I told her my cat had died yesterday, ''oh yes my cat is doing fine, but that's not why I wanted to talk to you'' here I go, I take a deep breathe.

''Listen Anne, there's something I've been meaning to tell you for a long time, I well l-''

''HENRY?!''

''ANNE''

A tall blonde boy with blue eyes approaches Anne, ''darling'' he says as he takes her arm and kisses it gently, she blushes a light pink, his accent is British and rough and annoying

''What on earth are you doing here Henry?'' she asks

''Came to visit my auntie, when I found out she lived in Avonlea, well I couldn't resist but to see you again''

''It's been so long since we first acquainted''

''Yes indeed, I must admit I have missed dancing with you, you were by far the most graceful dancer that I know'' he smirked

''Stop flattering me'' she rolled her eyes playfully.

He takes her arm and gives her a twirl as she giggled

''GILBERT'' I scream without notice, Anne and stupid blonde boy look over. I clear my throat ''My name's Gilbert Blythe''

''Oh sorry Gilbert, Henry this is Gilbert Blythe.'' Anne introduces

''Pleasure Blythe'' he says as he extends his arm. I take it with a firm handshake, looking at him in the eyes hoping to scare him so he'll go back to whatever British fancy town he came from.

''How long will you be staying?'' Anne asks

''A week or two, I would love if you could show me around Avonlea, what do you say darling?'' he says

''Of course, you'll simply adore Avonlea. I believe it to be the most magnificent place in the whole world, no matter where I travel, none of them will compare to here.''

''Well I'd better head back to my aunt but is it possible for us to acquaint after you finish today's studies?'' he asks as he starts stepping away.

She nodded as Ms. Stacy enters the room the crowd rambles to their seats as I glare at Henry walking. Many questions circle around my mind, how those Anne know him? What dance where they talking about? And why would Anne want to hang out with a guy like him?!?

Anne looks at me and smiles which eases my worry, yet still I can't seem to concentrate on anything Ms. Stacy is saying.

''Gilbert, can you please get out of your seat that's where Henry will be sitting, he needs to be close to Anne.'' Ms.Stacy says

''WHAT''

''I can't wait for your wedding Anne!'' Diana squeals as she admires a ring in Anne's finger

''Henry will be the perfect husband!!!'' Ruby says as the girls giggle

''Gilbert are you alright'' Ms. Stacy says as I snap back to reality

''Oh, um yes I'm fine'' I say as I look over to Anne's finger, no ring, I'm okay.

As the final lesson ends Ms. Stacy dismisses us. Anne walks along with Diana as they chatter about British boy Henry. She waves bye to Diana as she heads towards the woods.

''DIANA'' I call after her, she looks back and smirks

''I'm guessing you want to know about Henry'' she says casually

''what pfft of course not, why would I care'' I say nonchalantly

''mhmm of course then what DO you want Gilbert'?'' she asks

''Can't a guy just check up with a friend?''

''I was not aware we were friends'' she replies

''Friends are people that have no romantical interest for each other, you know who would be a great example of that? Henry and Anne, right?''

''I'll answer that question if you just admit that you have feelings for Anne'' she says with a plastered smirk.

''Whaaaattt feelings for Anne? Pft no'' I say nonchalantly

She raises her eyebrows and I crack ''Alright fine, yes I have feelings for Anne''

''took you long enough'' she rolled her eyes

''soo? Henry and Anne?''

''They met during spring break in Charlottetown, they danced together in a party''

''that's it, I'm following them'' I say as I head towards the woods

''don't jump to conclusions Gilbert'' she says

''what should I do then?'' I ask

''Maybe find a way to show her how you feel'' she says

''Thanks Diana'' I smile as I head home in hopes of thinking of the perfect idea of what to do.

As I walk through the forest, I recall all the times Anne and I have walked through here in deep discussion, suddenly it hits me, an amazing, extravagant idea, the best way to reveal my feelings to Anne and hopefully woo her. I run home in hopes of starting my project before Anne gets wrapped in Henry's bewitchment.
