~The Final Chapter~
08:13, 17 January 20145 seconds of summer arrived at Heathrow airport at 4:30am. And so did hundreds of fans, waiting to catch a glimpse of the boys before they boarded their plane back to Sydney. The tour began back in their home country, and in order to play in Sydney- we all had to fly back.
It was great timing, really. Hannah and I had to return to school the day after the Sydney concert we'd be attending, leaving the boys to tour without us for the first time ever. I was sad that I'd be away from Luke for a number of weeks, I knew I'd miss him like crazy, but I was so proud he was living his dreams. I was proud of them all.
Hannah and I trailed behind the boys as they got out of the 5sos van at the back entrance to the airport, rubbing our eyes and yawning, wishing we didn't have to be awake at this ungodly hour.
We were all super tired until we walked into the terminal to find security trying to handle a few hundred fans whose flashing cameras both made me wake up and also wish I was still asleep.
The boys looked ecstatic and surprised with the turnout, though they tried to quieten the crowd of screaming girls.
"Woah woah guys! Shh! Sounds like we've all been up too early for anyone's liking, everyone be quiet and we'll get around to as many people as possible."
Calum instructed, and instantly the crowd quietened. He smiled proudly and the other boys gave everyone a thumbs up.
Hannah and I stood at the terminal gate, watching as the boys made their way around the sea of people, trying to see everyone they could. I wasn't surprised at this, the boys were all very grateful to have the fans they had, and I'm sure they realised that these fans had been awake just as long, or longer, than we all had this morning, to try and see the boys before they left for home. I watched Luke talking to a fan, he signed a shirt for her, and then she said something to him and he looked at me, smiling, and waved his hand, motioning for me to come toward him.
Hesitantly I made my way the few metres toward Luke and the fan, whose smile seemed to widen as I got nearer and nearer.
"Hey Lex, this is Natasha, she just wanted to get a photo of us."
Luke explained, and the fan, Natasha, nodded and grinned.
"Oh hey Natasha!"
I smiled as Luke pulled me into him and wrapped his arms around me. We both smiled and there were multiple flashes from the many camera's around.
I went to walk away but another fan called my name. I looked in her direction and she beckoned for me to go and speak to her. It felt strange, I was used to happily standing in the background and watching as the boys connected with their fans.
"What's Luke like as a boyfriend?!"
The fan asked, her eyes gleaming with hope.
I laughed, knowing that this was only the beginning of this fan's questions.
"He's pretty amazing, quite the romantic."
"What's the hardest thing you've been through together?"
Another fan yelled.
I wasn't really up for explaining the whole crazy Stacie kidnapping scenario, that was well known about in Australia but not here in London.
"We um, we survived a house fire once?" I shrugged.
The rest of the time before we had to board the plane was spent interacting with the fans. By the time we waved goodbye and disappeared through the terminal gate I was sure that every single person standing there had spoken to at least one boy, which was so lovely of the guys to do.
I collapsed into my seat, exhausted. 5am, and I was ready for some more sleep.
I buckled my seatbelt, rested my head on Luke's shoulder, and before the plane could even take off I was fast asleep.
~*~*~*~*~
"Luke if we die, I love you"
I half shouted, clutching his hand in sheer terror. We were almost back in Australia, this was the last two hours of the flight and we just had to be flying through a huge electric storm. The plane was rocking around everywhere, the raindrops that hit it's shell sounded more like bullets, and all I could see out the window was dark dark grey clouds and brilliant flashes of lightning.
"Babe, calm, the pilot knows what he's doing. I love you, okay? We're not gonna die."
Luke reassured me, looking into my eyes as his other hand rubbed my back comfortingly. He didn't even seem too convinced by his own words.
I closed my eyes and tried to breathe.
Luke pressed his lips to my ear and began to sing sweetly.
"I'm coming because I need to find you, is anybody there who can rescue, somebody like me, cause I'm just waiting, for somebody like you, somebody like you, cause without you I'm a lost boy.."
It relaxed me instantly. I found myself getting lost in the melody of the new song that would be featured on the boys album, 'Lost and Found'.
"Sing me the bridge bit of Try Hard, please?"
"Okay Lex, but remember: Good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught."
He winked, poking his tongue out at me.
"THAT DOESN'T EVEN MAKE SENSE IN THIS SITUATION LUKE HEMMINGS."
He laughed and proceeded to sing me what I requested.
"But now who knew, that she's in the crowd of my show, nothing to lose, she's standing right in the front row, the perfect view, she came along on her own, and there's something that you should know.... "
I smiled to myself, relaxing even further.
In no time at all we arrived at Sydney airport, -and to my relief- in one piece.
There was an even larger greeting of fans at Sydney airport waiting for the boys, along with all our families. Everyone ran for their families first. I was super surprised to see my father standing there smiling at me.
Once again the boys tried to spend time with the fans who were waiting, but there was so many that they couldn't spend very long with each. I caught up with Molly and my brother and father. It kind of felt like we were a family.
By the time we got home, it was dinner time, and true Molly style, she'd made all my favourite foods. As much as I'd enjoyed being overseas, like Dorothy says in The Wizard Of Oz, there's no place like home.
I fell into bed, and jetlagged me couldn't sleep. I was physically exhausted but mentally awake. I decided to go to see Daniel, knowing him he'd still be awake.
Just as I thought, he was still awake, and playing his Xbox, as indicated by the glow underneath his door. I never used to go into his room but part of me really missed my big brother so I wanted to spend time with him, or atleast say hello. I knocked twice on the door and then opened it slowly. His face lit up when he saw it was me, and instantly his game was paused.
"Lexiiiiii! I'm still so happy you're home."
He held his arms out for another hug and I fell into them.
"It's been a while, hey?"
I smiled.
"You've grown up. What was living with a famous band like?"
"They're idiots. They're actually not mature at all, you know how many times I had to break up fights between Calum and Luke over who got to be player one in FIFA? Like every second day! Ah they're great though. The fans were unbelievable though. Crazy. Mental. And the album sounds amazing. So many great experiences though. I went on the London eye with Luke, our own private box, we had dinner up there. The city was beautiful. Everything over there is amazing. And the snow! Ah the snow was so fun. You would've loved it....Mum would've loved it. She always said she wanted to see snow. "
I looked at the ground, not sure how he'd react to my last statement.
He wrapped his arms around me tightly.
"I'm sure she was there with you Lex, making snow angels and laughing and watching you with a proud smile on her face."
He smiled, I smiled back.
"You need to sleep, concert tomorrow and then school the day after! Go to bed small child!"
He ordered me. Our cute brother/sister moment was over. A wave of tiredness fell over me. Yawning, I retreated to my room and fell back into bed and slept soundly.
*~*~*~*~*
"Bzzzzzt. Bzzzzt. Bzzzt."
I rolled over and woke up to see my phone lit up, the vibrations loudly rocking the side table it sat on.
'25 missed calls, 10 text messages'
What?!?
I answered the next incoming call.
"Why hello there sleeping beauty."
Luke chuckled.
"What? Is everything okay? I have like 200 missed calls and 60 million messages.."
"Yeah everything is fine, are you coming today Lexi?"
Luke chuckled again. What was so funny?
"Yeah I said I'd be there for soundcheck! Wouldn't miss it for the world!"
"Baby, it's a bit late for that. Soundcheck was two hours ago..."
SHIT.
once again, I was too late.
"Ohmygod Luke I'll be there in half an hour I'm so sorry."
He laughed again.
"See you soon beautiful!"
Oh dear god, I'd slept wayyyyy too long and missed half of my boyfriends first ever proper album touring experience.
I jumped in the shower and got ready in ten minutes, almost falling down the stairs on my way downstairs.
"Hey Lex..weren't you meant to be at the arena? Like two hours ago?"
Daniel asked from the kitchen, making himself a sandwich.
"ISLEPTINANDIFEELSOBADOHMYGODCANYOUTAKEMETHERENOWPLEASEDANIELPLEASE"
He blinked, taking in what I said. Grabbing his keys and his sandwich we were out the door and down the street in the car instantly.
The drive to the arena usually takes 20 minutes. But for some reason we got stuck in the traffic of hundreds of fans who were attending the concert too. Daniel beeped the horn in frustration.
We were literally two kilometres from the arena and we'd been stuck for a total of 40 minutes when I received a text from Luke.
•We're on in 20 minutes Lex, you're what, 2km's away? Don't stress I have a plan•
Luke has a plan? Oh gosh.
We continued to sit in the traffic, tensions rising with every minute that passed.
A knock on my window scared me, and I looked to see a familiar face looking back at me. Oh my god.
I opened the window to reveal a sweaty, red faced Luke Hemmings.
"What are you doing Luke!"
"I'm coming because I need to find you! Like the song! C'mon lets go! I'm on in 10 minutes!"
I jumped out of the car and we began to run through the traffic back to the arena.
Suddenly I felt the heel of my shoe snap and I went hurtling forwards, losing my balance.
Luke caught me, lifting me up bridal style, and continued to run with me in his arms. The sweat dripped down his face but he didn't seem to care, he ran almost effortlessly with me in his arms, until we reached the final 100 metres before the back door of the arena, where Hannah, Ashton, Calum, and Michael were waiting for us, smiles on their faces as they cheered and cheered at the cute scene unfolding before their eyes.
Once inside, Luke put me down and smiled to himself. One of the backstage workers walked past,
"5 minutes boys, get side of stage."
I pulled my shoes off, and we all ran to the side of the stage where I made Luke drink water and sit down for the remaining 5 minutes.
The plan was that all the boys would go onstage except Luke, and they'd play the intro until Luke ran onstage to start the songs. That worked out well for Luke who looked like he'd just run a marathon.
"Okay you three, the stage is dark, creep on now!"
They were instructed and the boys ran into position. The crowd erupted into screams and applause.
"Lexi, I have something to tell you, and I have something for you"
"Okay Luke, wait till after the sho-"
"Shut up I'm doing it now, let me finish"
He panted. I laughed and shut my mouth.
"Alexis. Ah you're the only one I ever want to spend time with. I could never lose you. I don't think I could live if you weren't in my life. You mean everything to me. Everything. You're beautiful, and perfect, and the past months we've been together have been the best of my life. I love you Alexis, and well, I know we're young but I know this will last."
He panted, trying to get all the words out.
"1 minute to Luke's entrance"
Someone yelled.
"Lexi, you always talk about being late. And how much it's impacted your life. But no matter how late you are I'll always love you. Here, I bought this for you, so you'll never be late again."
He pulled a box out of his pocket.
"Woah woah no no Luke we're too young to get married what oh my god"
"Shoosh you, it's not a ring!"
He opened the box to reveal a brilliant silver watch, with 'forever and always' engraved on the underside of the face. He took it and placed it around my wrist.
"You will never be late again."
"Luke onstage in 10....9..8.."
"I love you Luke."
We kissed passionately, forgetting where we were, or what was going on. I knew it right then, I loved him, and he loved me, and that was way more important than time could ever be.
