~Chapter 29~

08:16, 28 February 2013

My knees jiggled nervously in the car as I stared out the window, watching cars and red double deck buses pass as we drove through London on our way to the first writing session for the album. The boys insisted on bringing Hannah and I along as 'Inspiration' (or so they called it) but I had a feeling they just didn't want us to leave their sides.

I felt a large hand rest on my knee, holding it down firmly. I looked over to see Luke smirking, watching me from the very corner of his eye. Yes, I was nervous, and I wasn't even a band member. I sighed, and turned my attention back to the window, light dots of rain racing each other down the glass as the rain of the overcast day sprinkled down on the town.

Once we'd arrived at the studio where the writing and recording of the album was to take place, we were taken straight inside to meet the sound producer they boys would be working with. He shook each of our hands and showed us around the area. There was a kitchen, a writing room, a waiting booth that had a one way mirror inside, showing the recording studio itself, complete with the mixing room and the recording room. Hannah and I made ourselves comfortable in the waiting booth, eagerly chatting away about what the album could turn out like.

I think the boys were expecting to spend the first day writing, because they all high fived each other when the producer told them the first thing they needed to get done.

"I've heard a lot about your fans and I've done my research, they want a few of your old originals on this album guys. From the videos I've seen and heard of you playing the originals, they're definitely worthy of being recorded. So boys, grab your instruments, we need to start this album off with a bang! We're hopefully going to have 'Everything I want', 'All I Need' and 'The Perfect Disguise' started by the time you go home today!"

The boys piled into the studio, their smiles bigger than the instruments they played. Hannah and I looked on from the waiting booth, each of us making excited sounds every now and then, unable to comprehend that this was actually happening.

"I swear it feels like it was only a month ago that Ashton told me he'd joined a small band with three other guys. He told me he thought it was odd that they were called five seconds of summer because there were only three of them, and he loved summer, so he didn't like that it only lasted five seconds. Crazy boy." Hannah laughed, reminiscing as she watched Ashton adjust his drum set for their quick run through. "I'm glad he joined the band though. He's practically gained three brothers; the boys get on that well. They were inseparable for like four months after they formed the group, I remember it well; I spent most of my time just texting Ash, and trying to see him when the other boys weren't hogging my boy. It's okay now, they calmed down a bit when they became more popular. I think that was because they didn't have to try so hard to be a band and attract more people to like them, because they had a steady fanbase. I mean look at them now, this is all just like a dream come true." She leant forward, resting her chin in her hands and smiling.

It made me think though. There were a number of events that led up to this very day and made everything turn out the way it has. There are a number of events in every situation that make them play out the way they do, whether they're good or bad. But it's the people in my situation that made it what it was.

If Ashton had never met the other boys, 5 seconds of summer wouldn't be who they are. Hannah might've moved in across from me, but she wouldn't have introduced me to Luke, I would never have met the boy of my dreams. The 5SOS concerts wouldn't have gone as they did (or even existed at all) and most of all, I wouldn't be sitting here, in the waiting booth of a recording studio, in London.

That made me think even more. What would I be doing right now if I hadn't of met Hannah? I couldn't even imagine it. I honestly had no idea.

"Hello? Lexi? You coming?"

I blinked and saw Luke's smiling face staring at mine. I'd been daydreaming again?? Typical.

"Coming where?" I asked

"Coffee break?" Luke looked at me blankly.

I realized we were the only two left in the studio, everyone else must've left, and the doors were wide open. I stood up quickly, checking I hadn't left anything on the seat, before taking Luke's hand and letting him lead me out of the booth, out of the building and onto the street where the others were waiting.

"Nice of you to join us," Michael joked.

I smiled and brushed my hair over my ear, shaking all the thoughts from my mind and concentrating on what we were doing right now. "Coffee break, anyone?"

We began to walk down the wide street in a line. Oddly, there were few cars about. I suppose the light rain turned people off wanting to be outside. It didn't deter us though; we were like the bear gryllis of London, up for any weather extremes, minus the disgusting survival techniques and well, the bear gryllis part....

We came across a small café on the street; it was quiet and full of middle-aged people, no teenage girls.

"I have a feeling we won't be recognised here in London, but still, here looks nice and quiet, just to be safe." Ashton said, leading us all inside.

The café was warm and had a cosy home-like feeling to it, quite like the kitchen in my house. Nostalgia hit me like a truck but I pushed it away, focusing on the people around me. They'd become like a second family to me, their smiling faces lighting up the room. We were all happy to be here, the boys especially.

When the waitress came and took our orders, I watched Luke. I guess I wanted to see his reaction to another female. He didn't give her a second glance, infact the colour drained from his face and he looked to me instead. I suppose she wasn't too good looking.

When she'd finished taking everyone's orders, she shut her notebook and started to walk away.

"Lex, is it just me, or does the waitress look like someone familiar..?" Luke whispered, his face nearly pale white.

I looked up to see a flash of Blonde hair as the waitress walked around the corner.
