~Chapter 1~

05:20, 1 July 2013

I scrolled through the songs on my iPod, looking for something catchy I could bop along to on my walk home from school. It was only a short walk, ten minutes if I dawdled, five at normal pace. I settled on some Jessie J, stepping along to the beat of 'Price Tag.'

It was such a lovely day that I decided to take the long way home, walking around the whole block before returning to my street. I had a quick look around to check that nobody was within earshot before I started jamming to the last chorus of the song.

"IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MONEY MONEY MONEY, WE DON'T NEED YOUR MONEY MONEY MONEY, WE JUST WANNA MAKE THE WORLD DANCE, FORGET ABOUT THE PRICE TAG"

I sang rather loudly, crazily dancing all the way down the street to my driveway. I flopped onto the front lawn puffing as the song faded out.

It was only then that I noticed it. A removal van outside the house across from mine. The house had been for sale for such a long time, now finally the red "SOLD" sticker covered the "FOR SALE" sign. I stood up and headed inside, dropping my bag at the door as I ran upstairs to my room.

My family... Well I don't see much of them. Dad manages a fairly big company and is always overseas or interstate in meetings. Daniel is my big brother, he's 17, and has always been super protective of his little sister. And then there's our housekeeper, Molly, who has been like a mother to me since mum.... Yeah.

I got changed out of my school clothes and into some tracksuit pants and a comfy hoodie, before bounding down the stairs into the kitchen. I could smell something delicious cooking in the oven.

"Lexi! How was school, honey?"

Molly appeared, a huge grin across her face. She held her arms open as I approached her and hugged her.

"Not too bad! Whatcha cooking? It smells incredible!"

I sniffed the air over-dramatically, sending us both into a fit of giggles.

"Just a cake for our new neighbours across the road. I thought it'd be nice for us to go and meet them. Who knows, there could be a cute boy over there.."

She winked as she took the cake out of the oven to cool.

Mol was honestly the best cook, she could cook anything and It always tasted amazing. Not only did she cook for us but she cleaned and did our laundry, although both Dan and I helped when we could. Dad trusted Molly to look after us while he was away, and for the past 6 years she'd lived with us, she'd done a good job.

"Oh! Well I'll go and get changed into something more.. Appealing then!"

I winked back. I hoped she was right, there needed to be a cute boy my age over there!
