Careers

A Hunger Games FanFic

By Sophia

[DISCLAIMER ~ All of the plot and characters belong to Suzanne Collins (with the exception of a couple OCs I created and the characters Suzanne doesn't go into detail about). By the way, this is my first THG FanFic following the actual plot, with no Main Character OCs so sorry if it sucks and please tell me if I get the characters right or not]

[SOME OF MY OCS INCLUDE: Lynnon Mint, Desire Lowe, Sapphire Liss, Astoria Fanning, Trent Ferguson, Cressa Nox,

Some information before you start:

In this FanFic, Clove is 16, Cato is 18, Marvel is 17, and Glimmer is 17

The characters are played by the original cast

I will follow both the movies and the books

This takes place in the first book of three, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, if you haven't read the book or watched the movie then please do that before reading otherwise it won't make any sense

If something doesn't make sense just ask me about it, most of this stuff comes from my middle of the night brain

Please don't copy this, you can use my idea but don't do the exact same thing and if you do, ask me first before doing it

No hate, I am not the best writer but I am trying my best

Since we don't exactly know how Career training and such happens, I am following @UnLeashedVisions idea of how things work from her story, Needing the Impossible, on Wattpad (Highly recommend!)

On the chapter titles, it will say someone's name (Ex: Chapter Four ~ Cato, Chapter Two ~ Marvel, etc.) but that doesn't mean it will be their POV, it will be in third person because I prefer writing like that

Now onto the actual story, I hope you like it!

CHAPTER ONE ~ GLIMMER BELCOURT

Glimmer sighed as she swung open the dark gray doors of the training center. Her hair was pulled back into a tight pony tail and was falling into her perfectly make upped face. She would much rather be at the new clothing store her friend Jasmin told her about but her dad, a local news reporter, had told her she needed to go to training.Β

Glimmer didn't see why she needed to go to training as, A, she never actually did the training, she just flirted with the boys and gossiped with her friends, and B, she was only seventeen, and she wasn't going to volunteer anyways. And if she got Reaped by chance, there was always going to be a volunteer to save her.Β

Glimmer walked down the long dark hallway which led to another set of doors, this time black. These led to the actual training part of the center. She nudged open those doors and was met with a cry of frustration. Her eyes darted up from her shoes to find Lynnon Mint on the floor curled up into a tight ball, a small plastic knife wielded limply in his hand. Desire Lowe stood above him, her fake sword drove into his back.

"I win, again," she sneered. Lynnon threw his hands up in frustration. His pale skin was turning a pale pink color, from the exhaustion or embarrassment Glimmer didn't know. She rolled her eyes and set her dark pink bag on the bench that was pushed up against the wall. She didn't need the bag but brought it along so her father would think she was actually doing something productive with her training time.

"Hey Glim!" Sapphire Liss called, beckoning for Glimmer to join them where they were huddled together in the back corner of the training center. The trainers couldn't care less about the group, seeing as if they'd never pick them to volunteer for any of the years.

"What's up?" Glimmer said, joining the cluster of girls.

"We were just talking about how hot Trent looks over there," Astoria Fanning said with a sigh as she glanced over to the sword station. Trent Ferguson, the "hottest guy at their academy", was slicing off dummy heads with his sword which was never found out of his possession. Glimmer nodded. She found her eyes drifting over to where a boy with light brown hair stood, shooting spear after spear at a dummy at the back of the center. The boy's brow furrowed as he panted in exhaustion, he kept going nonetheless only stopping to catch his breath every so often. He twirled and dived as if it was a real battle. Perhaps it was to him.

"Checking out Sanford huh Glim?" Cressa Nox sneered. Glimmer shook her head. "Sure looked like it. How would you like it if he knew he was being watched?" Cressa grinned maliciously. Cressa Nox was the evilest in the group and it didn't matter if you were her friend or not, she would spear you if you even came close to insulting her. "Hey Sanford!" Glimmer facepalmed as her friend called out to him. He turned around in question, glancing at Glimmer and then Cressa.

"Hmm?" he called out.

"Glim's got her eye on you!" Glimmer rolled her eyes at her friend, fighting the blush to not come across her cheeks. Apparently Marvel had given up on that battle and his face looked like a peach. After recovering from the embarrassment, Marvel continued spearing the dummies and the cluster of girls made their way over to where Trent was sitting, drinking from his water bottle. Astoria slid onto the bench, right up next to him and Glimmer noticed him flinch slightly. Sapphire joined her but on Trent's other side and Trent looked around with pleading eyes. Glimmer just rolled hers. Yes, he was hot, but Trent was a rich, selfish, brat and was super self centered. Glimmer turned to Cressa who had yet to sit down.

"Want to go to archery?" she asked. Cressa shrugged but followed Glimmer. They settled in at the archery station and Cressa grabbed two bows and a pack of arrows for her and Glimmer to share.

"Let's turn it into a competition," Cressa sneered. Glimmer shrugged. "Whoever loses has to steal Trent's sword." Glimmer gulped. Trent would be ticked if his sword went missing but Glimmer agreed, knowing she could beat Cressa.

"Rock, paper, scissors for whoever goes first," Glimmer said. The two played a round and Cressa came out with the victory. She placed her arrow in its place and aimed for the large red bullseye in the middle of the dummy's heart. Glimmer heard the arrow whiz past her as it found its place, a couple inches away from the looming, blood colored target. Glimmer smirked as she picked up the bow and placed her arrow in the correct spot. She pulled it back and let it fly through the air, finding its place directly in the middle, piercing the cold metal.Β

"Good luck with Ferguson," she sneered, flicking a piece of stray hair out of her face. Cressa mumbled a response that couldn't be heard. Cressa wiped her sweaty hands on her pant leg and slowly crept over to the sword station where Trent's sword lay behind a barrel of apples, shooting targets, and was surprisingly unguarded. Glimmer leaned against the wall, watching her friend with a bemused expression on her face. Trent was still getting bombarded by Astoria and Sapphire and his attention was focused away from the sword, luckily for Cressa. Cressa snatched the sword up with a quick motion and sprinted silently back over to Glimmer.

"Now what?" she asked, acting as if it was no big deal that she had just stolen the largest threat in the room's favorite weapon. Glimmer shrugged and Cressa heaved a sigh before chucking the sword upon the balcony that loomed overhead. It landed with a clatter and Trent swirled around, glanced upon the other trainees, and then looked back at Astoria who was vividly telling a story about how she broke her arm. "Mission accomplished," Cressa said, brushing the fake dust off her cream colored hands. Glimmer rolled her eyes and followed Cressa to the middle of the room where The Golden Siblings had called for everyone to join them. Cashmere, the chattier one of the two, launched into a large speech.

"As you know, Saturday morning is the Reapings. Tomorrow, we will be announcing the selected volunteers and those people should do as we say, no exceptions. If there is any arguing or threats, you will immediately be ordered to a public whipping." Glimmer glanced around nervously. Her eyes found the hazel one's of Marvel and immediately looked back down at her shoes. "You all have worked incredibly hard and we appreciate your devotion and we apologize if you are not selected. You are now dismissed." Everyone burst into chatter as they collected their bags.

"Who do you think it is?" Sapphire asked Glimmer, who was packing up beside her.

"My bet is on Ferguson and Cressa," Glimmer declared.

"You know, Cressa bet me 20 bucks it is going to be you and Sanford," Sapphire said slyly.

"No way, ain't going to happen," Glimmer denied, shaking her head causing the loose strands of hair falling around her face to whip her eyes. Sapphire smiled and followed Glimmer out the door. The two jogged to catch up with Cressa and Astoria who were arguing over the best bread kind. Glimmer blocked out their conversation entirely, staring at the ground absentmindedly.Β

What if Cressa was right? What if she was selected? Glimmer thought about how unprepared she was, how the odds were this year, how she would most likely get killed within the first few days. What if Marvel was picked alongside her? A whole new set of worries collided in her brain as she kicked a small pebble across the ground as the group walked along the road.Β

They all happened to live along the same street and normally made the walk home together. Glimmer veered off towards her house, a small gray one with a black door and yelled goodbye to her friends who were still ranting about bread. She creaked open the door venturing into her currently dark home. She found the light switch and flicked it on, the room getting illuminated by the soft glow.Β

Glimmer's house was a good sized one with marble floors with dancing grays and whites. She swung her bag off her shoulder and onto a small stool beside the door frame. Her younger sisters, Glitter and Shimmer, were most likely out shopping with her mother Ruby, and her dad probably out at a friend's house. Glimmer was used to the loneliness and resided in her room most of the time and did that day after grabbing a shimmering apple from the mahogany bowl on the table. Glimmer plopped down on her deep pink colored bed, grabbing a fashion magazine on her way down. An approved one of course since the Capitol refused to issue some.Β
