/CW/ mentions of past suicide

play any sad song on repeat

Salo Armani layed in a lounge chair his arms draped across the back and over the side. His eyes were closed but he was not asleep, yet.

A woman, covered in robes held a glass tool, the tip of a brush tinted a bright magenta. Shimmer leaked out of the tip as she dragged the brush along the man's skin, turning the flesh a dull purple.

Her tall ears perked up at the sounds of footsteps and she readily threw all her supplies into a tattered bag before swinging it over her shoulder.

The door opened and a girl walked in, short but proud with a cloak of confidence.

Minx wore a black long sleeve shirt with various triangles of skin showing, dark thick strings held the shirt up by wrapping around her waist and neck. It came down to her hands to form fingerless gloves. Her jeans were low rise exposing most of her toned stomach as well as her belly-button ring, the pink jem glistening from the overhead light.

Straight pink hair was cut below her shoulders with whispy bangs along her brow line. The woman's eyelids were coated in a thin coat of black forming an elongated wing at the edge of her eyelid, under which was an even smaller line of bright pink connecting to her bottom lash line.

She radiated undercity but there was a underlying tone of something different, more prestigious in the glint of her eyes and the way she carried herself. Something just short of a piltie.

Salo had his eyes still closed at the opening to the door. But the woman recognized the pink-haired girl her breath getting caught in her throat as she scrambled to the door.

Sensing his mistress's movement Salo finally peeled open his lime green eyes pupils following her to the door.

His eyes widened at the sight of her, specifically, at her pink hair and green eyes, the eyes that reflected his own and the hair that matched his first love's.

"What?" Salo backed himself into the corner of the lounge chair voice breathy and full of astomishment.

At the sound of the door closing, Minx swung herself over the edge of the couch landing on its hilt with one knee pressed to her chest.

"How about let's skip all the formalities, huh?" Minx questioned retorically, as if the man had any choice but to listen.

Salo blubbered mouth open and releasing few syllables.

"Ah, ah, ah," Minx sqished her finger from side to side, "I'm doing the talking, 'kay?" She launched herself off the edge of the sofa and onto the floor so she could stand with her hands on her hips.

"Mom, Marise Armani, sold me, when I was nine, to a group in the underground, for a specific drug us underground folk concoct," she paused, "The same drug she died taking."

"Your mother didn't overdose, Ebony," Salo sat up his face casting a solemn glare, "She hung herself."

It was like the world stopped spinning, as if the air stopped carrying oxygen and was entirely carbon dioxide. Grief hit her in waves richocheing off the walls of her ribs and bouncing around her bones. A lump caught in her throat.

This whole time she believed what the press had said, it was believable, she'd give them that, an overdose, accidental. Now, she could picture her mother, the person that throughout everything still carried a small dose of love in her heart, even if she didn't show it, wrap a tied rope around her neck and fall off their banister, her body dangling in the air like one of their expensive chandeliers.

"Your mother loved us, but she loved the high even more, the feeling of her body floating," Salo let out a choked laugh, "at least that's the way she went out- floating."

Minx blinked back her tears, "You're not funny, dad, you always were bad at jokes." Her eyes opened with a reminiscent look on her face.

A/n reread chapter A Councilor's Daughter if you're confused

She was ready, she just hoped he wasn't.

Councelor Salo Armani bent his head back in a laugh, an unexpected, dangerous, laugh. His eye glistened something regretful yet warm. He smiled at his daughter whom he hadn't seen in almost nine years. He felt repentant that he hadn't put up a single missing child's poster, but now, as he rolled disguised along the streets of her city he realised he had been looking into her eyes every single day, just in a different poster.

That was Ebony's father's last thought as he felt a prick in his arm, neon green liquid that matched his beautiful daughter's eyes infultrating his weak veins.

Minx dropped the syringe to the carpeted floor, her own concoction leaking onto the red fabric.

The clench in her heart went disreguarded as she choked back tears. Looking back into her father's face she saw her own eyes, a part of her she could never change, and said, "When you're born looking into a silver spoon, you learn not to trust your reflection."
