To Europe! (Chapter 38)

"Is he dead? I'm beginning to think the reason he's not replying is because he's faded already or something. Why am I stressing over about it? He hasn't even done anything yet and I've been working my head off over absolutely nothing at all! Did he accidentally forget he declared war on an entire civilization!?" I complained like a crazy ex-girlfriend talking about her boyfriend. At this point, it wasn't even surprising, because we were starting to give up entirely on the war, because it hasn't begun yet in the first place.
I was with Chiron in the Big House, just the two of us were discussing our plans, as usual. It had become a little bit of a habit for the both of us to talk, teacher to student, about what tactics campers would use incase of emergencies.
"This is peculiar indeed. Perhaps Pontus has gotten caught up in his age. While it has been over a month or two, that is but mere minutes in the eyes of a primordial." Chiron advised, coming up with an answer to this insanity.
"Possibly. But if that were true, it'd be ludicrous for him to wait until we collect out demigods and allies to attack us. Even if he is old, he still lives by our clock. It's not like he doesn't see us in real time or something." I sighed.
Chiron was about to speak up, but something stopped him. I guess he just couldn't fathom Pontus's strange movements either.
"Chiron, I'm going to find Pontus." I spoke, filled with determination.
The centaur looked at me a bit oddly. He was probably thinking if it was a good idea, or if it was an idea at all, because at this point, anything was on the table.
"A bit of a hasty move you are proposing, Perseus. It could be dangerous, as we are unaware of Pontus's capabilities at the moment. Going alone seems rather...unfavorable." Chiron stated blankly.
"True. But I'm not going to fight Pontus, or at least I don't plan to. I want to find out what's been taking him so long to make the first move, and act as a some sort of scout for information." I explained.
"How do you plan on finding the old sea god? Seems rather difficult, considering that we haven't been able to pinpoint a precise location." Chiron questioned, and I shrugged my shoulders.
"I've got an idea." I said with a slight thumbs up. Chiron sighed and shook his head while facepalming all at the same time.
"May I ask what this plan may be?" He asked, and I got the feeling he was expecting me to say something really dumb and illogical. The thing is, he's probably right about it.
"Pontus is said to be most present in the Mediterranean Sea, so I'll warp down there and see if anything's weird at all, and see for myself what I can do from there. I won't tackle him on my own, I just want to check up and see if we're actually doing this whole war thing. Really, I don't want to spend another day worrying about being invaded by an army of monsters. It should only take a day or so, since if anything gets too heated, I can just opt out and teleport back here, after all." I informed Chiron, and he had his concerns about this whole operation. To be fair, it was a makeshift plan, so I didn't plan for things to go accordingly, but I'll take anything at this point.
"I am not quite sure. I see plenty of risk and not much reward to be in sight. For all we know, Pontus could be hidden from the rest of the world, and plans to invade tomorrow or the next day. I acknowledge your agenda in this matter, but you must understand that you will be the key player in the war that may be soon to come." Chiron warned.
"It'll be fine. For all we know, Pontus has given up his evil ways and began a new life as a candy-shop owner selling blueberry gumdrops. See? We won't know anything about him until we try, so that's what I'm gonna do. If it helps, I'll TP back here the first sign of danger, alright?" I assured my old teacher, because I knew it would be alright.
After all, I have plot armo- I mean, hope to protect me.
Ha ha...I let that slip out, oopsies.
"I find it rather meticulous that you are planning to travel a quarter of the world for a scout mission. " Chiron commented, and I could tell he was worried a bit. After all, the last time I was in Europe, I was with the Seven, and we had to use the Argo II for days to get there. Now I'm going alone, and it'll only take about five seconds to get there.
If only I could do all this back then.
"Don't sweat it. I've been through worse, remember?" I reminded him, and the centaur crossed his arms and gave in.
"I'm not against you finding Pontus on your own, but do be careful on your way. We do not know much of our enemy, so it is best to tread with caution." He said, looking into the distance. Pontus had to be out there, somewhere. It was only a matter of time until either he attacked us or we find him and his forces.
"Sure can do." I nodded my head, and stood up and stretched my arms preparing to warp. Chiron watched as fire started to wisp through the air like miniature fireworks as they began to cover around every spot of my body.
It was very abrupt, taking a trip that should take about a week in just five seconds. Honestly it was hard to think about because I remember the trip to Rome being treacherous and full of danger, but now I can just snap a few fingers and suddenly appear around the world. The more I think, the more I yearned for this ability back then. It would have made things so much easier, by far.
Since the destination was quite far, it does take a rather consuming amount of energy, but it shouldn't detriment me or anything serious. At most, I'll just get hungry or something, so there's that to take into consideration. But hey, I'll take eating a pizza in order to travel to Europe any day of the week.
Chiron looked at me with hesitation, but didn't object to much with my plan.
"Good luck, Perseus." Chiron sighed as he raised his hand in a farewell, and I returned the favor by putting a salute gesture on my forehead with my right hand.
I gave him a light smile, reassuring him that I would be fine, because I knew that I'd be back no matter what. Chiron wasn't much of a worrier, as he had had plenty of students come and go, but I think in this day and age where anger is less abundant, at least most of the time, it made the loss of demigods more impactful. After all, we all just want a world where demigods can live in peace, and have normal lives like the mortals can.
The flames quickly enclosed around me, and I closed my eyes for a moment, letting the blessing do it's thing, and in a matter of seconds, I felt my body teleport somewhere else. I was sure I could find Pontus in the Mediterranean Sea, so I'd probably go to like, the coast of Italy or Greece.
Now that I was thinking about it, the book didn't specify what part of the Mediterranean Sea Pontus lived in, so that could prove a problem, and I probably should have thought about this prior to just jumping the gun and leaving to Europe so soon.
In less than a few moments notice, I felt my body come to a sudden stop, and I knew instantly that I was in another place.
The first thing I could say for sure was that I found myself on an empty shoreline, a sandy border between the sea and beach. The sun was shining bright and almost as if it were morning, as it was afternoon back at Camp Half-Blood. The waft of the fresh seawater polluted the air, and it reminded me a lot of Poseidon's castle under the oceans.
Now I would have to spend Chaos knows how long until something comes up. I could spend a lot of time searching for clues of Pontus's presence, and there's a large chance that I'll find nothing at all.
But I have to-
"You?" A voice said from behind me, and I slowly turned around, because the tone of the voice was somewhat familiar. That couldn't be...I was halfway across the world...who on Grand Gaea would know about me here?
My gaze landed on an old man in a messy black suit jacket.
"You..." I breathed into the air, with my eyes filled with multiple emotions. That couldn't be him...I had just arrived here...and it was by random chance...
Before I knew it, I was face to face with the Primordial of the Sea. Pontus himself stood in front of me, and his aura was genuine. The predicament I had just stepped into was one that would only happen once the stars aligned. Here I was, planning to visit Europe in order to scout on Pontus, and had teleported to a random location around the Mediterranean Sea, only to spawn right next to the lord himself.
That...just couldn't happen. But it did...and now I was looking eye to eye with the man who was beginning to wage war on all demigods.
Today was going to be a long day.
