Broken Promises
00:12, 4 September 2024Suddenly blue lights beams down. When it disappears, thousands of Thanos' troops appear. Monsters, half robot creatures, machines, aliens, and everything in between. I feel a lump form in my throat, this is it. This is the final battle and it's three humans and one beaten god against thousands of incredibly powerful beings. We're going to loose. This has all been for nothing. I see in everyone else's eyes that they know it too, but Steve still stands up, so I do to. I help Thor up, and I can't try to look for Tony but I can't find him. Steve starts slowly taking steps forward, clearly about to attack again but then he freezes, looking confused. He taps his earpiece, obviously someone is talking to him but who? Then he turns around and I look in the same direction he's looking. There's a yellow spinning portal. I recognize it but I can't place where from. Three people walk out of it, Black Panther, Shuri, and General Okoye. They're back. Falcon flies out of the portal just as hundreds more appear. I see one portal nearby open with Doctor Strange, Mantis, Drax, Star-Lord and... Peter. I feel tears fall down my cheeks for what feels like the millionth time today but this time it's from happiness. Peter's back. He's back. It worked, everyone is back. Warriors from Wakanda follow Black Panther out of the portal and start chanted. I want to run to Peter but I know now isn't the time, plus, I'm not sure I'd make it. My stomach is killing me and it's getting harder to breathe the more I move. More ships and warriors come out of the portals. I noice Groot and Bucky, gods form Asgard, Wanda, and what looks to be Ant-Man's wife. It's obvious we outnumber Thanos' troops now, but does our power compete with theirs? Thor pulls his hammer to him, ready to fight. I see Pepper in her Iron Man suit and I can't help but grin. Suddenly Ant-Man quickly expands and bursts through the rubble from the compound. He opens his hand and Bruce, Rhodey and Rocket jump out. Thanos slowly lowers his sword, obviously surprised and worried. I smile. "Avengers..." Steve starts, "Assemble." Everyone yells and charges. Both side clash. Immediatly an alien runs towards me. I dodge his knife and kick his legs out from under him. I web his knife and pull it towards me before stabbing him in the heart. I quickly step back, ready for the next creature. I grab a discarded gun off the ground and start shooting any creature in sight. I see Iron Man get hit out of the sky a distance away from me but Peter quickly swings down to him. I run around to where there's less creatures and then start trying to get to Peter. I finally reach him and Tony, they're hugging. Tony spots me and lets go. Peter turns to me. "Oh my god, you won't believe what happened! Apparently it's been five years since I disintegrated or whatever, but where back now and-" Peter starts, smiling wide. "Peter." I interrupt. "What?" "I know all of that." I pull him in for hug and he hush back tightly. My stomach hurts a little from the pressure but I don't make a move to pull away. The hug last several seconds, I'm almost afraid that if I let go then he'll disappear again. Or that I'll learn this was all a dream. Finally though, we do pull away. There's still a battle to be fought. "You okay?" He asks. I nod, "I am. Now." Tony flies back into battle and I turn to Peter. "Stay safe okay? Promise me. Promise you'll be okay, you'll be safe." I tell him, holding his hand tight. He looks at the battle, at all the creatures, all the blood, all the hero's. Then he looks back at me and nods. "I promise." I've never been good with promises. Ever. Once upon a time, I was in a Hydra base and the person I loved most promised me he would be okay. He died. Then later, when I had found somewhat of a family, I ignored someone I loved. Peter. When I told Peter that I was scared of him dying, he promised he wouldn't. Then he got snapped. Still, with all of those broken promises, and all my shitty luck, this promise feels different. It feels more real. Because even in the middle of what is probably the biggest battle of our lives, I have Peter. And I have Tony. We've survived this long. So maybe it's time my luck changes. Maybe this time I can hear a promise and believe it. Maybe.
