23:37, 29 May 2017Demi's POV
—So what do you suggest? —she continued correctly with her part.
I wondered what they were planning to do.
—There's nothing we can do Juliet, you know our relationship has no future... We can do anything against forbidden love... —Jake replied as Romeo—. I'll take the potion, so I'll leave this world and let you forget about me... You will find the right love, I promise.
—What are you saying!? —Evelyn shouted, making like if she was furious and changing the play's script.
I looked within the script crazily all over and over again and I couldn't find anywhere what she was saying... I tried to warn her that she was not following the storyline, but she was not paying attention to me... WHAT WAS SHE DOING?
***
—You won't do anything! —she yelled, looking to the audience now—. Who are our families to forgive us to see each other? Why should we stop dating just because they can't stand each other?
—So, what do you suggest? —Jake said, taking Eve's hands.
—We are running away together, leaving everything behind.
—Can we do that?
—Who cares? —Evelyn shouted joyfully and acting perfectly—. No one should try to stop our love!
I kept hearing them and trying to believe that whatever they were doing would work. As the time passed, I suspected they had changed the scrip with one purpose...
—You're so wise Juliet! Let's leave and love each other no caring about what others think about us! Let's be free! —Jake stated looking to the audience.
—Let's do this Romeo! —she told Jake, looking him in his eyes before they collapsed in a big hug.
I looked at them open mouthed, still trying to figure out what they had just done. Allyson winked at me and made me the signal to lower the curtain, as I did it. The audience started to clap and cheer while all the little ones ran to the stage to do/give the final bow.
When they were ready, I raised the curtain back. The parents and teachers clapped even harder this time, until Evelyn, my little lovely troublemaker asked for silence, getting it successfully.
—Thank you for all your claps and support! —she said and looked at Jake.
—We wanted to dedicate this story to our unbeatable teachers, Miss Lovato and Mr. Valderrama —he said, leaving everyone as amazed as I was.
—By now, you probably know about their beautiful story... Two young teachers that fell in love doing what they liked to do the most: teaching —Allyson explained now, making me blush and covering my face, shyly.
—The saddest part is that, this morning, when we got to school, we found Miss Demi crying because his boyfriend and our cherished teacher, Mr. Valderrama, had quit his job forced by the rules that the school along with the parents established last year, when also, Miss Smith and Mr. Barthon fell in love at school... —Alexa protested.
The audience listened quietly and surprisingly about the speech the now mostly eight year old students had prepared.
—We broke up crying about it as our teacher did... Your intolerance has snatched Mr. Wilmer to us... —Violet pouted now.
—He was an amazing person, someone that loved Miss Demi and us so much... —Aaron added.
—Mr. Valderrama explained us how to be in love felt like some days ago on the break time... —Alexa started to talk—. He told us that it is an intense feeling and that you have the need to be near the person you love all the time... He said that you are the happiest person of the world when you are with that person...
—Mr. Valderrama was in love with Miss Demi, the same way she did... You must think we are too young and that we are children to understand and talk about these adults' topics... But excuse me when I say that we think we are more mature than adults sometimes... —Evelyn frowned.
They were trying to help me? Were they trying to fix all that? Oh my God.
—We can't understand why you can't stand two teachers to be in love at school? What's wrong with that? They don't hurt anyone! Who would make a school rule to forbid loving someone? —Evans complained.
—We wanted to give credit to our teachers now, for teaching us more things than math, literature, writing or spelling... —Allyson kept talking—. They taught us some important values that we see there are a lot of adults that can't still understand.
—We just wish we could do something to fix this mess, because we really knew they were together before you all, but we promised not to say anything, because we respected it! We loved to think they were happy together! —Jake shouted.
—We don't truly know how to do this and our teachers didn't even know we would do this... Miss Demi didn't even know we would change the script of the play just to help her and she must be feeling the need to kill us right now behind the curtains... —Allyson chuckled, making the audience laugh and making me smile while biting my lower lip.
—We just suggest you to think about the people you love the most, the people you came to this show to see or the people you are sitting next to... —Evelyn pointed at the audience—. Imagine someone prohibited you to see them anymore! Imagine you had to let them go away! We are children and we couldn't do anything more than giving you a speech to try to change your mind about those senseless rules... That was all... Thank you for listening...
I wiped my tears from the pride I was feeling. I couldn't have better students. I couldn't love them more.
At the moment they started to walk to the curtains to meet with me, the parents' and our teacher mates stood up and started to clap. A woman who I supposed that was a mother of any child in the school, walked to Mr. Davis and talked to him for a minute, before she took the microphone.
—Guys! —she said, making us all turn around to the audience again—. I am the representative of the school's Parents' association... —she introduced herself—. Your speech was very inspirational and you showed us how immature and childish we the adults can sometimes be... We made those rules trying to protect you... We wanted you to get a high quality education, but we now see you got better values this year than the ones we wanted you to learn... We now know we were terribly wrong...
Children and I opened our eyes the more we could. They were reconsidering what happened.
—Where is Miss Demetria Devonne? —she asked, saying my name.
—Miss Demi! —Evelyn looked to the curtain to call me—. Come to the stage!
I went out and our students hugged me while the audience clapped.
—We really wanted to apologize to you and um... to Mr. Valderrama in the name of the school and all the parents' —the mother said—. We are ready to start over and invalidate the rules we approved the last year... We are really sorry for disturbing you and... for the damage caused...
I couldn't hold back my anger anymore and I broke up crying again. They were apologizing and invalidating the rules now, when Wilmer had already left. It didn't matter anymore.
—Miss Demi! Don't cry! Did you hear that! We can fix this! You can be together! —Evelyn shouted, shaking my arm.
I took a deep breath and I talked.
—Thank you for understanding... but Mr. Valderrama is taking a plane to Venezuela this morning... there's no go turning back —I got to say holding my tears from falling back.
—Miss Demi! How can you say that!? —Allyson replied—. You still can run to look for him!
—But he left this morning... he will probably be already on the plane... —I said dejectedly.
—And what if he is still in the airport? —Evans asked, trying to encourage her—. You need to go! Come on! Move your ass to the airport Miss Demi! —he pushed her to the door from her back.
—Guys, listen up! It's late! —I complained.
—Miss Demi! Remember the Cinderella story? Remember when you told it to us one night in the camp? —Evelyn talked again.
I nodded, not knowing what she wanted to mean.
—Remember why the prince never gave up? —she asked me again, persistently.
I looked at her in her eyes and I remembered that night when before she fell asleep she asked me that same question.
—Because in love, "it's never too late"! —I replied, making her smile happily. She knew I got her message.
—Come on! —I said joyfully—. Let's go to the airport! —I added, kissing Evelyn's forehead.
Every child started to take their coats and they led to the door behind me.
—But where are you all going? —some of their moms asked.
—We are like a family! We need to go with her! —Lorraine and Aaron added.
—We need to drive them! —Evelyn's mom shouted excitedly—. Get in the cars! Miss Demi and Ally, Evelyn and I will drive you! See you all at the airport!
Evelyn chuckled, took my hand and she fast led me to her mom's car.
