02:50, 1 April 2017Demi's POV
Sunday was there in a blink of an eye. We were still in bed, when Wilmer, who was probably dreaming, gave a kick to the air and left us with no sheets on. I opened my eyes to see what happened and he was sleeping peacefully yet, with the sheet tangled up around his foot. I was about to try to sleep again, but I decided to go to the bathroom because I really needed to pee.
I moved away Wilmer's arm, which was placed on my stomach and I got up carefully, trying not to wake him up. I was walking to the bathroom when I started to hear someone murmuring and it made me stop. I turned over and I walked in the direction of that voice which led me to Lucia's bedroom.
She had her door half opened and I could see her walking from one side to the other in the room while talking on her phone. I was not really interested in hearing her, but I changed my mind when I heard her talking about Wilmer.
"Yeah mom, Wilmer's being so nice to me" I heard her say, smiling from ear to ear.
Her face turned upset when her mom asked her another question and she replied rolling her eyes:
"Yeah, he is still dating her"
I furrowed my brow, knowing she talked about me and I got closer to the door.
"No mom, he hasn't realized and he will never do!" she said angrily "he doesn't even suspect anything!"
My face turned even more serious with that and I placed my ear next to the door's slit. What did Wilmer need to suspect? Was she hiding him something?
"What will I do when he is born? Well, I'll probably tell him that the baby has been premature" she smirked evilly.
What the hell she was freaking talking about, I wondered, getting concerned and quite angry. Why would she tell that to Wilmer?
"But don't worry mom! I still have two months until the baby is born! I still have time to think about it!" she chuckled, making me understand it.
I took a jump when I counted with my fingers the months she was supposed to be pregnant. At that moment, I put my hands on my head, assuming what she had meant. I could understand it all now. How could she have such a noticeable belly being like a month pregnant when she came home the first time in February? Impossible.
If she was going to give birth in just two months, which meant she got pregnant seven months ago and that was in the beginning of December, not January. The baby was supposed to be born in three months and a half, not two. That only meant something: Wilmer was not Lucia's son's father. She was already pregnant when they slept together. She was tricking and taking advantage of him.
"Yeah! That's the only thing I have to do left! But don't worry mom! Once the baby is born, Wilmer will get so in love with the family we will form, that he will surely forget Demi and leave her aside... Then he will be mine!" she squealed in joy.
I brought my hands to my mouth in surprise and moved back to Wilmer's bedroom. I even forgot I had to go to the bathroom. I closed the door behind me and I lay down next to him again. My eyes started to water becoming afraid of that really happening.
Would Wilmer still choose me when Lucía'd give birth to his own unique son? Would he still choose me when she'd become into his son's mother? Why would he?
Anyway, I was so mad at the same time that any of the tears got to fall down my eyes. My annoyance was bigger than my needs to cry...
Wilmer's POV
We woke up at 7am to go to school. The first day after the camp! We had breakfast and I drove Demi to her home so she would get changed for school. I asked her if she wanted to stay home because she looked tired, like ill. I was quite concerned, but she told me she was okay so I nodded on driving her discreetly to the school.
That day was totally a success. All the parents approached to us telling their children told them all their coolest times in the camp and Mr. Davis congratulated us about being great teachers and keeping the children safe and comfortable out of their homes for a week. I was really happy and I felt very proud of us, but I could still see Demi very strange and distant.
At the break time, when our little ones left to the playground, I went out to the corridor and I waited until Demi'd get out of his class. When that happened, I took her from her arm and I pulled her inside of my classroom.
—I missed kidnapping you at school —I told her kissing her passionately.
I grabbed her from her waist and we started to make out, but I stopped right after I realized she wasn't following me.
—Hey, baby —I said in a low voice—. Are you okay? —I caressed her cheek.
—Yeah... —she replied sadly.
—You're in a really strange mood since this morning... Do you want to tell me something?
Demi raised her head and looked upwards, placing her gaze into the ceiling.
—Hey... —I placed my hand on her chin stroking her dimple now—. You know you can tell me anything you feel...
Demi looked back at my eyes and said:
—Look... I really need to tell you because you have to know it... But it's not easy to tell nor to understand... —she told me and her voice cracked at the end.
—Demi... you are scaring me... —I stated—. Are you ill or something? Do I need to worry?
—Ill? Why would I be ill? —she asked, confused.
—You've been throwing up this weekend... —I replied to her scared.
—Oh... no —she said reassuring me—. That's nothing, I'm better already! It's about... —Demi started to mutter—. It's about Lucía.
—Lucía? What does she have to do with this? —I asked, releasing her.
—Well... um... This morning I woke up earlier than you and I got up to head to the bathroom... —she started to explain—. Suddenly, I started to hear someone speaking my the phone and I went to see who it was... Obviously it could only be her.
—So, you saw her talking by the phone? —I half smiled, getting closer to her again.
—Wilmer, I'm not teasing you! This is serious and it's difficult for me to tell you so don't make fun of me! —Demi hit me repeatedly with his finger into my chest while pointing at me.
I saw how upset Demi turned with my funny behavior, so I understood it was truly important and I got serious.
—Okay, okay —I took her hand—. I'm sorry, keep telling me. I'll listen.
She released my hand and she started to walk around me in the classroom, running her fingers through her hair, nervously.
—Demi, can you stop and tell me? You're getting me anxious...
She looked at me and walked determinately to where I was.
—I listened to Lucía talking to her mom by the phone —she told me—. She was telling her the baby would get born in two months and that you'll never get to know why. She will tell you the baby is premature and you won't never find out the baby it's not yours. Then, she will make you fall in love with that perfect family you are starting and you'll abandon me —she exploded frenetically.
I got astonished as I listened to her. Was Lucía fooling me? Could my childhood best friend be so mean?
—De-De-De-mi —I got to say shocked—. That can't be true...
—Wilmer you know I'd not invent such a horrible thing, even less to hurt you... I promise you I listened to her saying that! —she shouted credibly.
I honestly could never doubt about Demi. I trusted her and her words. I walked dejectedly and thoughtfully to the nearest desk and I sat on it.
—I'm sorry Wilmer —Demi followed me and hugged me.
—I'm going to kick her out of my house —I told her not taking my sight off the floor.
—But she's pregnant Wilmer... —Demi whispered to me.
How could she be always so kind... even in those cases.
—I don't mind, that's not my child so I don't have to support her anymore —I added angrily—. I don't want to see her anymore.
—hey, I'm sure I listened to that, but we should assure it before you throw her out of your home...
—But how will we do that? I'm going to kick her out, fuck that! —I couldn't conceal my irritation.
—You should look at the ultrasound scans she has done recently... You should have the information there... I mean, how far along she is. If she is really almost 6 months pregnant, then you are his dad. But if she is 7... that mean she was already pregnant at New Year's... so you aren't —Demi said.
I looked at her eyes and once more, she got to make me bring out the best in myself.
—I promise you I'll —I told her taking her face on my hands—. And I promise you I will never ever leave you for her... Whatever I am or not that child's father —I clarified to her before kissing her lips.
