They were sprawled on the couch later that evening, legs tangled, the TV on but forgotten. Carol was half-reclined against Athena's chest, absently tracing circles on her arm like her hands needed something to do. Out of nowhere, Carol said, "So... what are you wearing?" Athena didn't even hesitate. "I'm wearing a tuxedo." Carol tilted her head back to look at her. "No discussion?" Athena grinned. "None. Black tux. Clean lines. Probably tailored within an inch of my life." Carol snorted softly. "You're gonna look unfair."

Athena shrugged, pretending casual. "I always do." Carol laughed, then sobered just a touch. "And me?" Athena's voice stayed easy, but her hand tightened slightly at Carol's waist. "You can wear whatever makes you comfortable." Carol considered that. "I don't do dresses." "Then don't." "I might want a jacket." "Good." "Or... maybe something in between. Like—formal, but not... fussy." Athena smiled, brushing her thumb along Carol's knuckles. "Perfect."

Carol went quiet for a moment, eyes drifting toward the window. "You know I don't want to feel like I'm pretending. Not for this." Athena leaned down, resting her forehead against Carol's temple. "You won't be. You could show up in boots and I'd still say yes." Carol huffed a laugh. "Boots are non-negotiable." "Obviously." They sat there, comfortable, the kind of quiet that only comes when there's nothing left to prove. After a beat, Carol murmured, "You're really okay with this?"

Athena answered without missing a breath. "I'm marrying you. The clothes are just details." Carol turned then, kissing her—slow, warm, full of promise. "Good," Carol said softly. "Because I was worried I'd have to learn how to walk in heels." Athena groaned. "Absolutely not. That would be a safety hazard." Carol laughed, settling back against her, the future feeling easy—sharp tux lines and soft certainty, exactly the way they were.
