Chapter 11

02:19, 7 June 2021

"Aunt May!!"

You push past the news reporters and people that are blocking your path. Police tape has been secured to keep unwanted people from piling up. It's barely doing its job. You duck under and an officer yells in your direction.

"Hey Kid!"

"Honey!" May is standing at the side, and the moment she sees you she leaves the ambulance that's giving her a routine check, and you dive into her arms. She's holding on just as tightly, and you've never been happier. The officer stops his chase abruptly when he realizes. He turns back to attend to the more unruly bystanders.

"I was so scared, I saw what happened on the news at school and I came over immediately." she pulls back, running her hands over your cheeks to calm you down, placing a kiss on your forehead. "I'm perfectly fine (Y/N). Believe it or not I think we were saved by that vigilante everyone's been talking about. I wish I could thank him. Such a brave young man. " You grin.

"I'm sure he knows how grateful you are." she's smiling too, running her hands down your arms. You wince when she touches the bruise on your right shoulder. You rub the area taking a step back. The adrenaline of it all has worn off, and now the full force of the abrasion hurts like hell.

"Are you alright?

"Y-Yeah I just fell on my way here. It's nothing, just a scratch." the bullet hadn't gone through, just grazed some of your skin. It would have been much harder explaining an actual bullet wound, much less hiding it.

"Let's get home. I already gave my statement to the police. I need a cup of tea." you giggle.

"I think I can handle that."

As you're about to walk away, there's an urge for you to turn and look up. As you do, you can make out the red cloth flowing with the wind. Those green eyes under it looking right back at you. You aren't certain from that distance he can see you, but you still convey your gratitude.

"Thank you."

It's a whisper that takes off with the wind.

"Then he came in like boom, tackled that guy right through the glass. '' May is giving you a play by play of her encounter. This is the fourth time you heard the story this week, and everytime the details seem to change. You listen to every detail, and appreciate the fact that she's in fact here with you, it could have been far different. You could listen to the story forever.

"Oh dear, look at the time. Why are you still awake!" she says playfully.

"Maybe it's because someone has been keeping me up." She's just smiling. You rise, stretching your limbs as you move to give her a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Goodnight Aunt May."

"Goodnight, make sure and get some rest. You've been falling asleep at breakfast these past couple days. I don't want you staying up long on your computer doing who knows what."

"I'll try to go to sleep at a decent time tonight, pinky promise." she smacks your shoulder.

"You better." you stick out your tongue running up the stairs happily. As soon as you make it through the door, you lock it, switching out your fit. Of course your lack of sleep had nothing to do with computers. It's been a solid week. The minute you pull on the mask, you slide open your window, diving out as you sling unto another building.

You've been making your regular rounds. You thought by now you would have seen the turtles. But no. You didn't even get a chance to properly thank them. You couldn't contact them either because the fall you'd taken had completely destroyed the cellphone, rendering your earpiece useless. Right now it was just a game of who would run into who first. So you kept at it. The patrols went smoothly for the most part. The worse you'd suffered was maybe a couple broken ribs, but in a few days it was always fine.

Running over the top of a roof, you dive off another ledge backwards.

"WHOOOHOOOO!"

There's a weightless feel to all of this. The wind beating against your back is amazing. Right before your body reaches the ground you anchor another web, flying over cabs and passing people. It's not long before you're gliding through the air again. Each jump is like a dream. Who would have thought this was the turnout of your planned average life.

You're just moving from roof to roof. Some movement a good few meters ahead catches your eye, and you finally slow down, coming to a skating stop to get a better look. Whatever it is, it's moving quickly. The multicolor bands are the first thing you really make out when a light flashes from below. You're grinning, and you take off with as much speed as your body will allow. You're gaining some distance. Now they're much closer to the point that you don't have to strain to see them.

With a calculated flip, you propel yourself to land right in front of them. You land on all fours, and the boys stop their little adventure. Mikey's blue eyes light up the moment he takes notice.

"That was incredible we didn't even hear you coming!" he says excitedly.

From the looks on their faces, there is a similar level of amazement.

Raph is the one closest to you, and he's wearing that smug smile.

"Nice escape from the cops, thought I'd have to rescue ya." you remove the mask. This time the look you're wearing is of pure gratitude. And it hits all of them.

You run right into Raph, wrapping your arms around his torso, hugging him. His hands raise in shock. He isn't sure what to do. Leo is now wearing a smile of his own. Donnie chuckles at the fact that you've clearly taken him by surprise.

"Thank you for keeping your promise Raphael."

Raph isn't sure what's more unsettling, the fact that your small arms feel so good around his body, or that he loves the way you say his name. You step back still smiling at him, and he backtracks, clearing his throat and averting his eyes.

"Don't mention it. " you're bouncing on your feet and you make your way over to each and everyone of them giving a hug. Donnie is the last, and he smiles shyly, adjusting his glasses.

"I-It really wasn't a big deal. Compared to us you did the heavy lifting. "

He's so modest and adorable.

"Oh, I'm really sorry I wrecked your phone when I tackled that scumbag. "

Leo nods. "I was wondering, you really had us worried. Raph said you made a break for it. We sort of dipped the minute they came in. Vincent gave us a heads up." Now that you think about it, there was a woman there. Blond if you remember correctly.

"I'm just happy it all worked out. There's no way I can really begin to repay you. Whatever you need just let me know, it's the least I can do. "

"You're welcome. " Leo replies. You're still beaming like a child.

"What?" he laughs.

"It's still pretty crazy. You guys are like actual turtles that know martial arts. How does that happen." You're a scientist, so there's no way you're not going to forever question how they came about. This time you're thankful that you're allies.

"So we're gonna team up or what." Mikey calls.

"I think it's implied." Leo answers. You nod vigorously.

"Heck yeah we are!!"

You've gained not only allies, but new friends it would seem.
