Chapter 33
05:26, 8 April 2015"Here and now, just hear me out..." Kendall mumbled in a sing-song way as we walked downstairs where we got coffee from Alexa and Carlos as we met at the van.
"What's that?" I asked him as we loaded up and were starting out again on the road. We were sat in the back again and we were waiting patiently as James sat in the drivers seat, annoyed with a hung over Logan in the passenger seat who was lounging and complaining about his eyes hurting this early in the morning. Dustin was already asleep with his head on Carlos's shoulder in front of Kendall and myself while Alexa took pictures of him for black mail I assumed.
"Can we start going yet?" Kendall asked. James then sighed and flipped the key in the ignition.
"Kendall, what was that you were singing?" I asked him. He smirked and wrapped an arm around my torso as I cuddled in close to his chest.
"Just a little something." Kendall whispered to me. I waited a moment, watching his features from where my head was rested on his chest looking up at him.
"It sounded like a little more than just something. I honestly thought it was a new song or something." I told him. Kendall chuckled and looked out the window, away from me. I sighed. "If you're starting to keep secrets, I don't know how long this is going to last." I explained to him. Kendall laughed. I was only teasing, but honestly, why was there all this secrecy? He wasn't telling me where I was going and then he wasn't telling me anything about what he was saying. Did he have something going on? No, that's impossible. But he never kept secrets before.
I'm paranoid. I have to be. Kendall then put on his head phones and soon feel asleep while I was wide awake questioning what was happening between Kendall and I.
"Hey, James, can we take a pit stop?" I asked him after about two hours of Kendall lightly snoring next to me. Carlos was also asleep, as was Logan and Dustin. Alexa was awake and nodded in agreement to my request.
Eventually, another hour later, we got to a little town where Alexa, James, and I got out to stretch our legs. Alexa of course immediately knew something was up as she clung to her jacket around her and her hood up. It was much more moist in the air where we were.
"Are you okay? I wasn't eavesdropping or anything earlier, but I did over hear you talking to Kendall about something that was making your tone upset." Alexa said as James lifted the nozzle of the gas pump until a man in an orange vest came over.
"I've got it sir." The man said to James. James smiled and nodded.
"I forgot about the gas in Oregon." James nodded as the man took over filling the tank. We were in Oregon?!
"Soph, you okay?" James asked me. I shrugged as we three walked over to a bench a good five feet from the van where the four inside were sound asleep.
"I don't know. I mean being with Kendall after our falling out has been so different. Now he's not telling me where I am going or what he's singing or what he's doing." I told them. James was then cleaning mud off his shoe. "I mean I didn't know this whole time and I'm one out of three sane and sober people on this trip. I think if he's going to drink and do whatever, I deserve to know where y'all are taking me!" I said getting a little more mad by the moment.
"James just said where we were." Alexa said as if I hadn't had caught it. I nodded. "Okay, well Sophia, I don't know what to tell you. I mean, we all knew, James and I are still sane along side you. I wouldn't worry about that part. But what do you mean he doesn't tell you anything?" Alexa asked me. I sighed and leaned back on the bench.
"Soph, you've got to know that guy loves you with all he has. If he's keeping something from you, why don't you ask him about it?" James suggested. I sighed and then leaned forward with my head in my hands.
"Hey! What're you doin' out there?" A hung over Logan asked squinting unnecessarily from the passenger seat. We all stood.
"I'll talk to Kendall, I just need to know that we are okay." I whispered to my two confidants. James patted me on the shoulder as Alexa grabbed my arm and hugged onto it for good luck. Logan went back to sleep quickly as we loaded up again. The other three slept for even longer, a good three hours as we were back on the road again. We kept diving until James told Alexa to get on her phone and see how far we were. We were approaching our destination, or so I gathered from their little whisper conversations. As we rolled down a quiet street in the middle of afternoon, there were tourists everywhere walking around with young kids and seniors. The sky was a dark grey with light peaking out every so often.
"Babe." Kendall mumbled as he finally awoke from almost a five hour nap. He took off his headphones and slowly leaned over to give me a quick kiss on the lips before smiling sleepily at me. "Hello." He said then through his lashes as his golden smile sparkled. I smiled back, my insecurities seemed to float away by the sight of his smile.
"Hello darling." I giggled then leaning to kiss him.
"Kendall, we're almost there." James said from the front seat. Kendall perked up a little and then grinned at me.
"This is exciting!" Kendall said loudly, but also a tad nervous. What was going on?
"You okay?" I asked Kendall. He smirked and nodded.
"I'm perfectly fine." He assured me as we came to a stop at the seaside.
