Huff of annoyance leaves me, wishing to be already in my cozy bed after such a long day. But this horrible traffic prevents it. Ugh.
"Eric Sacks was so inspiring. I know this is a story that actually matters." April didn't spare neither me or Vern a glance, still feeling off after Sacks' shitty party.
"The superhero one? That's a good idea. I should chase that down." Said Vern. People suddenly began running past us, away from something with scream leaving their throats.
"Where's everybody going?" I have the same question as Vern, looking around at the running people. A panic and fear in their eyes was enough for me to understand something bad is happening and the worst gang here in NY is Foot clan.
"Do we look like we know?" Sarcasm lack from my voice, Vern's glare going unnoticed to me along with his rolling eyes.
April suddenly bolted from the van, and I groan when I see her running the opposite way the people are running. She's again walking towards trouble, and once again I must be the one to get her out of it. Great.
Rubbing my forehead tiredly, I use the back door to get out and run after April, ignoring Vern's calls for us to come back.
Soon I walked into subway station but saw no one nor April. With unhearable footsteps I walked below and hid behind a pillar. My e/c eyes scanned my surroundings, until pair of hands grabbed my neck.
Out of reflex I reached back and grabbed onto the person, using all my abnormal strenght to throw them over my shoulder at the wall across from me. My chest rose and fell from the adrenaline, watching as the Foot Clan soldier slid down onto the ground, unconscious.
Four more soldiers ran in from the stairs and I cracked my neck.
"Let's dance." They ran at me and I fought them back, using everything my father has taught me and more. I still have a lot to learn but it's enough to dodge their attacks and get a hit at them too.
I fought them all off with some struggle, until one jumped at me from behind and electrified me to the point where my muscles turned numb. They lifted me on my feet and dragged me down the stairs with one hand clutching handful of my hair.
My brows knitted together when I see dozen of innocent people being held hostage by Foot Clan fuckers. They threw me down as well, a huff of tired pain leaving me.
"We know you're out there! If you don't surrender, we start executing hostages!" Yelled female soldier, who I'm sure wants my brothers to show up. It made me smirk slightly because one thing I remember father teaching us: stay out of human eyes.
I looked over at April, who took a photo of the female soldier, which I remember is named Karai. Unfortunately, the camera made a click sound and it caught Karai's attention.
"You! Stand up!" Karai aimed her gun at April and made her way towards her.
"All aboard!" A familiar voice yelled and I have to bite my smirk back, knowing damn well my brothers are here, ready kick Foot Clan's asses.
The lights turned off and the train came, four big figures jumping from there. Okay, now I'm really curious what did those guys do to grow into such sizes.
Karai shoot at them, even though she can't see a thing. Having the chance, I stood up and threw a piece of broken wall at Karai. It grabbed her attention but she turned to face me too late, my foot already up and meeting Karai's face. I grabbed onto her vest and spun her at the wall, knocking her out. What a good feeling.
With satisfied grin I turned my head, meeting eyes of one of my brothers. His shadow isn't telling much, not even the little of light we have here from the train. But I can tell it's definitely not Raph. He broke our eye contact and ran off, disappearing.
Soldiers sat tied up against the wall, unconscious. People began to ask who saved them and pointed at the place where they ran off. I quickly found April, grabbing onto her shoulders tightly.
"April! What the hell were you thinking, woman?! You got a dead wish or something?!" I shook with her form after my scolding, flicking her forehead.
"Ow. Talk about yourself. Come on." She grasped my hand in hers and dragged me outside to stairs leading up at the rooftop, where are heard voices I had to roll my eyes at. Idiots.
April didn't wait for me and is already pulling down the first stairs, sprinting up with curiousness forcing her going. With groan at this whole day going down I sprint after April, reaching her right as she climbed up the ladder but stayed standing on it, blocking my way from going any more.
"Ah, that's what I'm talking about, brothers. Like shadows in the light. Completely unseen." April's flash was once again turned on when she took a photo of my stupid of brothers and I facepalmed, wondering if I should just drag April away and delete the photo or leave it to my brothers to eat up.
I decided for the first opinion and tugged on April's ankle for her to go down right as we hear my brothers whispering about what was it and who did it. But it was too late, a chain wrapped around April and swung her up, leaving me down here all by myself with my mouth hung agape and to catch her phone that has fallen out her hand. Well shit!
"Give me the camera." Snapping from the shock, I grimace at Raph's 'deepened' voice.
"Ooh, look, he's doing his Batman voice." This voice is different, not rough and dull one. They changed so much after the years. Curiousity got better of me and so I climbed onto the ladder, staying there pressed against it and peeking over the edge to see what is actually going on over there. And oh, I feel sorry for April.
"She's so hot. I can feel my shell tightening."
"We can hear you!" Raph's gaint form towers over April, who managed to scramble to her feet without taking her eyes off him. The tough turtle pulls out his sias I remember being tinnier than those and I wonder if they kept my own weapon stored or got rid of it.
"If you don't give me the camera, I'm gonna..." Raph didn't have the chance to finish because another, new voice intervened in.
"Enough!" I flinched down and nearly let go of the ladder when pair of large feet landed right in front of my face.
"Back off, Raph." For this one I don't need to see katanas to know which one is it. He always were the type to lead and command. And also the eldest and most protective out of them all. Freaking Leo.
"I saw Batman once!" Raph called out with arms up in defence and walked away. April turned to face Leo.
"Ma'am, hello. I apologize." When he jumped down from the edge and kicked dust my way, I could only curse him in my head and muffle my coughs.
"My colleague here forgot to say 'please'. So, would you please hand over the camera?" April backed away from my brother, until another one landed behind her. The impact startled her this much where her rapid breaths are seen in the cold night air, fear and confusion clear in her eyes.
"No, no, no, no, no, woah, woah. Chill. It's just a mask. See? Don't freak out." Mikey, the youngest and funniest out of them all, if we don't count me, unwrapped his orange mask and held it in air, grinning like the idiot he is. April passed out.
"Well, that went well." A sigh of tiredness and frustration leaves me, along with shake of head, and mentally prepare for the right moment when I'm gonna have to show up and face my brothers I haven't seen for a very long time, even though they don't know I'm their lost sister.
"What should we do with her?"
"Get rid of her."
"No. We can't leave her here just like that."
"Don't forget she took a photo of us."
"Yeah, right. Donnie, get to work and delete it."
"Alright."
"Shouldn't we at least put her over there? The ground looks uncomfortable."
"You're right. Mikey, pick her up."
"With pleasure."
I rolled my eyes at my brothers bickering, especially Mikey, who for sure feels like he won lottery and can touch a pretty girl like April. I got this as my cue to show up and climbed up the ladder, seeing all of my brothers having their shells in my vision and crowding around April. They are too occupied by my friend to notice me sneaking right in between them.
Donnie, the nerd and only one, besides father, that ever had the patience to teach me basic stuff they teach in schools, searched in April's pockets for the phone while muttering to himself with frown. I almost snorted at his clueness, but waited for them to notice me.
"Where is it?" Donnie spread his hands in pure confusion, however, when he lifted his gaze and meet my eyes inches from him, surprise crossed his face and he screamed girl-scream, falling back onto his ass. Believe me, it took a lot of effort to hold myself from bursting into laughter right here.
"W-who, who are you?!" Others got their attention on me as well, Raph and Leo standing tall in case I come out as danger to them, which I'm far from that.
"I'm, umm," If I didn't catch myself, the secret I'm their sister would slip right through between my lips, and I'm so not ready for that yet.
"I'm her friend." Pointing down at April's passed out form, the two doesn't ease up their guard, only Mikey changed his confusion into goofy smile.
"And she's not screaming in fright! I like this one, dudes." He spared a glance to standing up Donnie, at who I raised eyebrows up for growing into such tall bastard, even taller than Raph and that's impressive. No, really, what did father feed them with?
"Honestly, you guys are way louder than you think. I could hear each word you said from the bottom of the stairs." Shame fell upon them, lowering their gaze for doing such mistake.
"And I also overheard you looking for this." With smirk I held April's phone in my fingers. Raph snatched for it, but I knew better and pulled it back in time. Raph growled, causing my smirk to widen. Oh, I missed teasing and provoking them. Especially Raph.
"Why, you little-"
"Now, calm down, big guy. There's no need for violence and cursing or whatever runs through your head." Keeping my gaze locked with him, I walked around both April and him towards Donnie and handed the phone to the turtle with glasses and purple bandana. Taken aback, he takes it from me and waste no time in deleting the photo.
"Haha. A child talking back to our big, fearless Raphael. I'm liking this too much." Mikey suddenly appears behind me with his hands shaking weakly my smaller form by the shoulders, until his big arms wrap around me, the ground leaving under my feet.
"Can we keep her?" Mikey smiled brightly at the leader. Had there be nothing holding me back, the truth would be already out and I would reunite with them and father.
"Mikey, let her go before you break her bones." Leo shakes his head with his arms crossed, never taking his suspicing eyes off of me. Pouting, Mikey sets me down and I take breath of fresh air. They're stronger than I remember.
"Ugh, you got strong grip there." What wasn't supposed to be really a compliment flew into Mikey's ears as one, and he flexed his muscles proudly.
"I know. Ninjas must be strong, that's why all the muscles. Ladies love them." He winked and I shook my head, visibly amused. He never stopped being himself, only grew more flirty and funny.
"You got a tattoo at such young age? You can't be older than 15." My heart race fastened, eyes widening as I turned to face Raph and Leo, lifting the hoodie to cover my bare shoulders showing the tattoo. They held this frown with suspicion, scanning my expression.
"That's none of your business." If only they knew. The suspicious look didn't slide down, but it was broken when Donnie grabbed our attention. Thank God.
"Guys, she's waking up." Exactly like before, they crowded around my best friend regaining her consciousness.
"Breathing steady. Blood pressure stabilizing."
"Why are we still here playing doctor?"
"She may have a head injury."
"Who may have a head injury, which makes it out civic duty to..."
"Enough."
"Ma'am, ma'am. Can you hear me? Do you know what city you're in? Do you know where you are?" Asked Donnie, snapping his fingers in April's face.
"Have you seen that video where the cat plays Chopsticks with the chopsticks?" Leo pushed Mikey away by his face, the poor turtle landing on his butt right beside me.
"Can we focus here?" Donnie put a comforting hand on April's shoulder.
"What are you?" After helping Mikey back onto his feet I tried to get a glimpse at my friend, their stupid shells huddled together like a big wall surrounding her. Ugh
"Well Miss, uh, we're ninjas."
"we're mutants.."
"Well, technically, we're turtles."
"Oh, and we're teenagers! But we can still have adult conversation." Mikey finished, changing his voice I can only cringe at.
"Wait, wait, wait, so...You're ninja, mutant, turtle teenagers?" The reporter tried to understand what these four guys are, however that seems to confuse her even more than before.
"Well, when you put it like that, it sounds ridiculous!" Stated Donnie.
"See, she's looking at us like we're freaks. I bet thet's why you took our picture, wasn't it? To show your friends?" Said Raph and jumped down.
"Bro, that's a good thing! Maybe she's got hot friends. Like that chick over there." Mikey failed at whispering, using one of his three fingers to point at me. I know they don't realize I'm their sister but hearing Mikey call me 'hot chick' while knowing what's probably running through his head is just EEWWW. Maybe we aren't related by blood but we're still family.
I got so caught up in grossing in my head when April threw her arms around my neck in crushing hug. Poor girl is frightened but damn, she's starting to choke me.
"April, I need air." She thankfully released me with little 'sorry' and faced my brothers again.
"Looking for this?" Raph showed the phone in his hand, which I don't remember giving him and sent a scowl Donnie's way, who pretend to be interested in the midnight sky.
"Don't break it. No, no, no, no, no, please." Begged April and Leo snatched the phone from Raph.
"How many times do I have to tell you? We don't break things, we fix them. Donnie already wiped the phone, genius. Problem solved, moving on." When Raph pushed Leo's shoulder, sigh leaves me with shake of head and crossed arms. It were false hopes for these two to get along and stop arguing over the same topic.
"And who put you in charge?"
"You know who did." Leo held intenze glare with Raph, his slightly shorter form looking a little ridiculous in my eyes. Some things never change.
"Uuuh, tension! it's been like 30 whole minutes since you guys had this argument." 30 minutes?! This much?! Wow, new record.
"Leonardo, if we want to make it home before Master, we gotta hustle." Finally Donnie got between the two and broke their intenze glaring. Upon hearing him mention our father, my ears perked. They turned back to me and April and Leo leaned down into our height.
"Do not say a word about this to anyone. If you do, we will find you, April O'Neil. And your friend too." His eyes lasted on me a little longer, like inspecting me if I look familiar to him or who I am in the first place. Maybe if they knew my name, they'd puzzle it.
"We're on the move, Raphael." The leader turned to the grumpy one. My ears didn't miss April's quiet whisper, repeating Raph's name to memorize it.
"Yeah, we'll find you, O'Neil." Mikey tried to use his 'flirty and dangerous' voice and was about to leave but he turned back to us. "I'm sorry, that came across super creepy, okay? We will find you two, though." Mikey pointed at us with smirk and all the four brothers began to jump away on the rooftops, making their way home. April ran to the edge and took a photo of them. Again. I had to snap my normal expression back when she turned to me.
"When did you came?"
"When you passed out. I'm gonna tell you, they're funny. I like them." April only shook her head at me and went up to the ladder, me of course following.
"Let's go home."
